Connection Sharing issue

I can connect to the internet (comcast cable modem) through my Extreme only when i choose Connection Sharing: Off (Bridge Mode). this isn't an option using many computers. for years, i had -- Connection Sharing: Share a Public Internet Connection, but it suddenly stopped working today. I am on Tiger on this G5 and Leopard on my Macbook. I am online on the G5 via ethernet right now using Off mode, but if i switch to my default of Sharing then I no longer can get online. Help. i didn't touch anything in Airport for this to happen. I was on Google this morning reading news and it suddenly stopped.

okay, i was wrong. that worked for about an hour and then i went to bed. when i woke up the probem was back and it's still not working.
but now i can Share the IP address on my AEBS and connect with the computer on Ethernet, but none of the wireless machines are working.

I checked the Db role of the service app pool account, it has SPDataAccess permission over the Database. i cant recreate another application without knowing the root cause. I hope i can get better option to troubleshoot the issue.

As per the error message, you can at least grant the BDC service application pool account the EXECUTE perimssions on the sp_BusinessDataConnectivity_DV13 database

  • 2 TB Time Capsule Not Letting Windows 7 Prof Backup With Connection Sharing Off(Bridge Mode)

    Hello Everyone,
I've been struggling with this and I am completely puzzled, I have a 2 TB Time Capsule that has the connection sharing: Off(Bridge Mode) and I am unable to backup my Windows 7 Professional Desktop to the Time Capsule.  So far I am able to map and access the Data file inside the Time Capsule
in My Computer on the PC after installing Airport Utility version 5.5.3.  However, I see 2 errors when trying to perform a backup:
Error 1)  When I try to do a regular back up using the Backup and Restore Utility, I get an error stating:
Error Code: 0x81000031  The last backup did not complete successfully
Error 2) When I try to create a system image :
A backup cannot be done to a remote shared folder which is not hosted on a volume formatted with NTFS.
    Error Code:  0x807800B0
What's weird about all this is other then having the backup inside my Windows 7 Proffesional home PC configured the exact same way, and back up
on my Linux and XP and Windows 7 Proffesional boxes with no issues, the only change in menu that is different on that Windows machine is that under the Internet Tab under the Airport Utility, Connection Sharing is set to:
    Share a public IP address
I've read some post online and microsoft is saying that the error is generated because the Time Capsule is not in NTFS format.  However, my time
capsule at home is a FAT32 just like the 2TB one here that is giving me all this grief.  Any help on this is greatly appreciated.
    Best Regards,
    Nevins Duret

Some of the article is wrong.. so be careful.. HFSexplorer AFAIK cannot write.. only read HFS+.
It is also irrelevant to the TC.. what the Mac can read and what the TC can read are two different things.. also storage on network drive is handled by SMB.. file format is actually irrelevant. For disks directly plugged into a computer.. buy two.. one for the Mac and one for the PC.. use each in native format. Share files the right way.. via network.

  • Apple TV Home Sharing Issue (SOLVED for me)

I had been having problems with Home Sharing while other functions (Netflix etc) worked fine.  My setup is wireless using Time Capsule.  My network was "open" (password not needed).  I had tried everything from recycling my DSL modem and Time Capsule and turning Home Sharing off and on (on my computer and the Apple TV) without success.
My Time Capsule has the ability to connect at 5GHz or 2.4GHz.  Additionally, my networks may or may not be password protected.  I finally changed to a network that required a password and my Home Shareing issue ended.  Since that network change everything works fine.

I was going crazy trying to play music from my Itunes library and watch slideshows of my photos as, once started, the application would quit within a minute of starting. I called Apple Support and tried everything they sughgested - restart, restore etc. Finally, I turned my router off and let it reset. When I turned it back on. everything worked. I could have saved a lot of aggravation had I been instructed to do so originally.

  • Network Configuration Window Freezes When USB NDIS Internet Connection Sharing and Ethernet Port Are Used Simultaneously

    Current Setup:
Asrock Extreme 4 Z77 mobo with built-in Broadcom NetLink (TM) Gigabit Ethernet.  Windows 8 Pro. Intel i5-3570k (using onboard Intel 4000 HD Graphics).  RAID0- 2 OCZ Vertex 4's.
I will refer to this setup as my tower.
The Ethernet port works fine by itself.  When I use wired tethering with my Android phone (Droid 4 running on 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich), it works fine when nothing is connected into the Ethernet port in the mobo.
The issue arises when I try to connect both simultaneously.  The network configuration window in windows basically freezes and I cannot really navigate it without a ~60 second delay at best.
I would like to be able to accept the internet from my Android via a USB tether and either bridge the connection or use the internet connection sharing service to route traffic through the unused Ethernet port on the mobo (either to another computer/xbox
or more desirably a switch/router to spread to the entire home network).  I have extensively researched the issue of Windows 8 become slow and unresponsive when I attempt to do this and I have not found anyone with the exact problem.  I am able to
do both the MAC bridge miniport (bridge 2 connections) and Internet Connection Sharing though a Windows Vista (home premium) Laptop I have. The difference between the laptop and the tower I am try to do this on is the laptop has a WIFI and Ethernet connection
while the tower only has the on-board Ethernet.
Do I have all the necessary equipment to accomplish this, or do I need to buy a PCIe WIFI card?  If so could I get away with just getting a USB WIFI dongle?
Any help would be very appreciated.

I had the same problem and came here by searching.
Per Rosengren's method solved the problem, but he didn't say how to do it, so I'll try to explain step-by-step for anyone that may venture here.
Open Device Manager (right click on Computer > Manage > on the left side, under System Tools choose Device Manager)
Choose the problematic device in Network Adapters (for me it's called HTC Remote NDIS based device)
Right click on it and choose Update Driver Software...
Click Browse my computer for driver software
Click Let me pick from a list of device drivers
Uncheck the box Show compatible hardware
For the manufacturer, choose Microsoft Corporation
Now you will have two options:
    - Remote NDIS based Internet Sharing Device
    - Remote NDIS Compatible Device
I chose the second one and it solved the problem, but if it doesn't work you could try the other one. In my case, the driver that was being used was neither of these, but a special driver from Android SDK ADT bundle.
Pick one and click Next. If a dialog comes up, confirm by clicking Yes.
Wait a few seconds for the connection to restart. If it doesn't work, try disabling and reenabling USB tethering on the phone, or reconnect the USB cable.
I should also note that I'm using a custom Android ROM on HTC Wildfire S (unofficial Cyanogenmod). If you have a stock ROM with HTC Sense, maybe this method may not work and you'll need a proprietary HTC driver.

  • Potential Solution: Home Sharing issues with iTunes 10.6

TL;DR: On a hunch, I changed the power settings of the ATV to never sleep. Since then, I have not had any issues. Granted, it's only been a couple of days, but it seems to have done the trick.
    Folks,
Wanted to share my experience with Home Sharing issues after upgrading to iTunes 10.6. These forums a rampant with reports of the issue, so I'll defer to the search field above if you don't know what I am talking about. In short: iTunes 10.6 seems to have busted Home Sharing.
For those who do, here's what I found:
For some reason, is saw a very large number of established sessions from my Apple TV (ATV) into port 3689 on my Mac. This is the port that ATV uses to query iTunes to see what's available via Home Sharing (e.g.: what movies, songs, pictures, etc are available for display on the ATV).
A sniffer cap and some observation of the power indicator on the ATV indicated that while it was sleeping, the ATV was querying iTunes. It would power on for a sec (wake on LAN, maybe?), issue some queries, then sleep.
When this happened, the TCP sessions created were never town down. As such, I would eventually see 200+ established sessions on port 3689. I don't know exactly how many it took to make this happen, but when I saw this, iTunes stopped accepting new connections.
Of course, bouncing iTunes would remedy the issue for a while, but it would return.
On a hunch, I changed the power settings of the ATV to never sleep. Since then, I have not had any issues. Granted, it's only been a couple of days, but it seems to have done the trick.
I would be interested to hear if it works for others.
    Happy viewing,
    Chris

    Thanks for posting this.
I've been searching for an option of how to approach this problem.
I picked up the new AppleTV when it was released, but it has made iTunes fairly useless from a Home Sharing standpoint.
I also observed the massive number of TCP connections being opened against iTunes, but never closed.
As expected, I could manually kill a few of these connections, and then could connect again, even without closing iTunes.
I performed most of my testing with Windows 7, but while troubleshooting I had the same issue with iTunes on an old Mac Mini I had sitting around.
I will try your solution, which makes a lot of sense, but it would be nice if Apple fixed the real problem.
    Thanks again.

  • Unfair connection sharing

Have been using airport extreme router for 1 year and a half. Using a macbook and have 3 other flat mates using windows (Only I have access to the router and settings). I have had many issues with the router in this time.
My main issue is that connection sharing is completely uneven. When my house mates use bit torrent, my macbook doesn't get a look in. I can understand a slower connection but it is really disproportionate. Only my computer slows to a crawl, all others continue to get a reasonable share.
I know this as I have all my flat mates mac addresses and when I block certain connections when I know bit torrent is in use, my connection is great.
I have tried enabling my macbook as the default host on the router and reserved an ip address but this didn't help much. Not doing any of these at the moment.
I think there are major issues with macbooks and airport extremes (compatibility updates sometimes help resolve issues).
    Has anyone experienced this?
Otherwise, my only option is to block bit torrent traffic or throttle bandwidth. Is this possible with the airport extreme as I've seen no obvious way to do this?
I'll be grateful for any help/advice,
    Nicky

I, too, would like a solution to this issue. I prefer to share my open wifi network with neighbors but need to block bandwidth hogs. Password protecting the airport extreme seems like an extreme solution.

  • Bluetooth Network and Internet sharing issue

I'm trying to set up a network through Bluetooth between two computers having the latest Toshiba Stack installed, and to share the Internet connection with the second computer.
On the firs computer I've set the Internet Connection Sharing, and because of this it automatically sets the TCP/IP adresses for the Bluetooth Personal Area network (192.168.0.1).
On the 2nd computer, i've set everything to obtain it automatically. Firewalls (Kaspersky) disabled.
When I connect the 2 Bluetooth devices, everything looks fine, the 2nd automatically obtains the IP adress, I can ping both computers, and the Internet also works on the 2nd computer, for a few seconds! After that, it appears like the 2nd computer is disconnected from the network... what could be the problem?
In the event viewer under the System tab, I've found Informations like these:
    2nd comp:
The system detected that network adapter \DEVICE\TCPIP_{E44D18EB-91F5-4... was connected to the network, and has initiated normal operation over the network adapter.
The browser has forced an election on network \Device\NetBT_Tcpip_{E44D18EB-... because a master browser was stopped.
and at 1st comp also appeares this:
The system detected that network adapter Bluetooth...Area Network - Packet Scheduler Miniport was disconnected from the network, and the adapter's network configuration has been released. If the network adapter was not disconnected, this may indicate that it has malfunctioned. Please contact your vendor for updated drivers.

  • My Internet Connection Dropping Issues...

I too am having the occasional Internet connection dropping issues.  Phone and TV continue to work.
Since I had Fios installed last November I am on my third ONT and 2nd router.  When I called in my latest drop yesterday the call center person told me I had a hardware issue because my computer had a valid IP address assigned.  I tried to teach her something about DHCP but she would not listen to me.  I asked her to please reboot the ONT and she refused because "nothing was indicating a problem with it".  Whatever...
Each time the Internet goes out the router acts fat and happy.  I have full green on WAN Coax, and strangely enough, a flashing green Internet activity indicator.  Logging into the router shows that I am MOCA connected and assigned a WAN IP address.  But I can't get out past the router at all.  On the event that led to me getting a replacement router the lady said she could talk to the ONT just fine, but not the router.  We reset the router and ONT port numerous times and the connection finally came back up.
I am not sure of the protocol between the ONT and router, but I think the ONT is keeping enough signal going to make the router "think" its happy, but then the ONT is not passing packets at some point.  After yesterdays call and the refusal to reset the ONT I just hung up on her and reset it myself.  Of course everything started working just fine...like I thought it would.
So what is the issue here?  Is MOCA a mess?  Is an Ethernet connection to the ONT better?  I am utterly disgusted with this miserable system and can't afford to continue having these outages.
I should also add the other wonderful features I have seen.  When I tried to powercycle the *new* router yesterday it decided to dump its entire config including my port forwarding.  Nice...  And I have given up using wireless because if I set the router for WPA it locks up so hard that it takes a master reset to get going again.
Anyone have some advice on getting this system stable?

I would try using a non-verizon router.  I used the Netgear router and it fixed my problem.  The Verizon router seem to be pieces of garbage and they over-hear.

  • Internet connection sharing between Mac Mini and Imac G3- how?

Ok, I'm trying to connect my G3 Imac (running 10.4.8) to my Mac Mini (also running 10.4.8) but it just wont work.
I've turned Internet Connection sharing on on my Mac Mini, and set it to share the airport connection to computers connected using Built in ethernet.
Network (on the M Mini) shows
Built-In Ethernet is currently active. Built-In Ethernet has a self assigned IP address and may not be able to connect to the Internet.
    Network (on the G3) shows
Built-In Ethernet is currently active and has the IP address 192.168.2.7. You are connected to the Internet via Built-In Ethernet.
When i try to go to a webpage on the G3 it fails stating, 'You are not connected to the Internet'.
I'm using a standard straight through ethernet cable, as I was told a while ago from apple support that it doesn't matter which u use, straight through or crossover.
Any help would be really appreciated

OK after some playing about I can now manage to connect to the mac mini and vice versa to share files.
The iMac G3 now says it has an IP address of 192.168.2.18, and that it's connected to the internet via built-in ethernet. I've set configure IPV4 to Using DHCP.
Except it's not connected to the net.
If i select Using DHCP on the Mini it doesn't obtain an IP address, not even a self set one. So i've set a manual IP address on that, and everything shows up green. Airpot connected to the internet and Ethernet has an IP address of 192.168.2.30.
After reading some forums I set up firewall logging. The result is what happens on the Mac Mini when I use network diagnostics on the G3:
Feb 11 16:43:52 richard-xxxxx-mac-mini natd[394]: failed to write packet back (Host is down)
So I opened port 394 (not really knowing what i'm trying) but it had no effect.

I use a DSL to connect to the internet. The modem is a Westell C90-810030-06. Two things happened in connection with the fail. I upgraded the firmware in both my Time Capsule (connected to the DSL) and the Airport Extreme (connected to my printer--used to extend the network). I also upgraded my Colof Nook to the Android Faux Tablet version. I can't imagine that that is creating some sort of mismatch.
I have now downgraded the firmware on the Time Capsule to 7.4.1 which is what I had before. Fortunately, I found the trick to downloading the older airport utility to find the older firmware. All the older versions disappeared from my computers.
I still have the same problem. Wifi works fine. If a second device connects to the wifi, then it works fine, but the first no longer has a connection.
And my Airport Extreme is not working at all. It cannot be seen by the computer. I tried resetting it. I'm going to connect it by ethernet and downgrade the firmware on it.
I appreciate any help. This is so frustrating.

  • Connection Sharing between my mini and xbox

Does anyone know how to enable shair the connection on my mini? I've tryed several ways and I haven't been able to do this. Thanks.
Mac Mini   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

If you are using Connection Sharing as provided by Mac OS X (in the Sharing System Preference) then be sure to make sure the appropriate ports are open in your Firewall. If you fail to open the right ports the connection you are sharing will not work.

  • Windows 8.1 Group Policies For Internet Connection Sharing?

Are there any more detailed policies available other than simply allowing or blocking Internet Connection Sharing?
I need to find out if there are policies allow management of Internet Connection Sharing?  For instance we would like to allow ICS, but control it so that it cannot be set up by the user in unsafe manner.
We would like to either set the PSK password in advance or at least disallow weak ICS WPA passwords.  It would also be a good idea if we could set up ICS so that only domain joined computers from our domain could join the ICS session from another computer
on our domain or else disallow direct access and file sharing between the ICS host and the guests joining the ICS network.
Can these types of things be managed via group policy?

  • Internet Connection Sharing using java

    Dear all,
I am currently trying to figure out a solution for making an application which would help me accomplish ICS.
I have googled for ideas on this, without too much help.
    My ideas so far :
    1) Detect input(wait a min. how can I detect if this is the "live" wire ?) from a network interface and then try to share/redirect the traffic to the other n/w interfaces.
    2) Actually listing all the n/w interfaces and asking the user to select the master interface.
the problem is, this may also have a few wireless connections hence I would need to know the signal strengths and then post WAP/WEP info too.
I am thinking of using jpcap for this.
This is the first time I am doing such a thing. Please let me know how do I proceed with this. I dont even know if the lines that I am thinkin on (1 & 2) are even correct.
I would be grateful for any pointers on this.
    rgds,

If you are talking about NAT? like the real internet connection sharing that many routers, firewalls, etc use to virtualize an IP then it cannot be done in PURE JAVA. Of course you can do something with JNI and possiably even get it to work. But then you will probably just be using features of the platform that your computer is installed upon as in order to do NAT, you have to be able to inject your code into the IP stack code.
Linux you could do it easily as long as the kernel supported it, as you would just have to run ipchains/ipfw commands.
in windows, I have no idea.
However, if you are talking about a proxy, then there are many implementations already done. Proxies are almost trivial to implement these days.

TopLink always closes connections, I cannot see how this could occur.
Please include your persistence.xml or sessions.xml. Also ensure you are closing your EntityManager or ClientSession, especially if using exclusive connections.
