Connection stuck on ADSL Max months after exchange...

Hi all
My exchange was upgraded to ADSL2+ nearly 12 months ago, but my connection is still running at the previous ADSL Max 8Mb sync speed. I'm using a Vigor 2710n router and my stats are as follows:
show adsl
  --------------------------- ATU-R Info (hw: annex A, f/w: annex A) -----------
   Running Mode            :    G.DMT       State                : SHOWTIME

These stats haven't changed since the days of my being on an ADSL Max connection. I'm not an expert at this but I believe that my Attenuation & SNR Margin figures are high enough to get ADSL2+ speeds. The fact that the modulation type is showing as G.DMT rather than ADSL2+ (G992.5) suggests to me that i'm still stuck on the old ADSL Max profile.
I've made several calls to BT support (India) and get different fob offs each time - that my line is operating within spec, that speeds above 8Mb are only avaiulable if I upgrade to Infinity (!) etc etc. During the last call about a month ago (case vol011-60207770173) I was told that they would reset the SNR marginand that the line would retrain over the next 10 days or so. Nothing changed at any stage on the router - stats remained as above.
I'm paying for an ADSL2+ product my profile seems stuck on ADSL Max. If anyone has any suggestions as to how to get this looked at properly by BT then please let me know.
Thanks,
Mark Denton

  • New connection stuck on ADSL instead of ADSL2

    Hi,
I'm on a long line and get 1mb out of ADSL Max, but BT wholesales own ADSL Availability Checker states that I should expect 0.75 to 2.5 from ADSL Max or 1 to 3.5 from ADSL 2+.
So as ADSL 2+ shoudl result in a slightly higher speed how do I switch?
I've already tried speaking to the support team who first of all didnt know what G.992.1 was - not a good sign for Broadband support. They then said i needed to speak to the sales team... guess what they said? Speak to support!
Any ideas who I should contact? Please dont say support or sales

My line stats from the home bug 3 are below. I dont usually use it, i use my own equipment as I need to run VPNs and load balance with a satellite connection to get anything even approaching broadband.
I've been trying to get BT to look at the line over the past few weeks already as the FEC errors have shot up significantly along with a speed decrease. Firstly I was told that cable theft left people in Cheltenham with no service and that this was affecting me (despite me having service, it just being reduced). Then after this was cleared I was told that it needed escalating to an engineer who would phone the next day. They just said my exchange was undergoing major maintainence for 48h and it would be resolved after that... guess what, it still isnt.
So i'm desperate to get both my old 1.2mb speed back and also to get any form of increase I can. I'm already using a microfilter faceplate which gives me the same sync speed as a microfilter into the test socket of the master socket. I've tested that it's nothing internal resulting in my speed drop (tried 2 modems, 2 cables, 1 MF face plate and 1 micro filter).

  • Stuck on ADSL Max

We re-contracted to get upgraded to ADSL 2+, but two days after the regrade, the line stats from the BT HomeHub say we are still on ADSL Max (Modulation: G.992.1 Annex A)... Noise margin 17.6dB.
Spoke to first line tech support earlier, who first said the modulation was fixed in the BT HomeHub and couldn't be altered, and then said the modulation type changes automatically after the ten day training period.
I'm sorry, but I'm not convinced about either story. Can anyone confirm how we get the line upgraded to ADSL 2+?

  • 5 months after the exchange upgrade.....

Evening, how normal is this.....got the email from BT at the end of March indicating that my exchange had been upgraded etc etc etc. However, for some reason I am still connecting at ADSL1 (my router doesnt actually display the modulation mode but since my connection is nailed at the top limit of ADSL1 for up and down I think that it would be fair to assume that this is the case).
    on Exchange HAVERFORDWEST
Your exchange is ADSL enabled, and our initial test on your line indicates that your line should be able to have an ADSL broadband service that provides a fixed line speed up to 2Mbps.
Our test also indicates that your line currently supports an estimated ADSL Max broadband line speed of 8Mbps; typically the line speed would range between 7Mbps and 8Mbps.
Our test also indicates that your line currently supports an estimated ADSL2+ broadband line speed of 17Mbps; typically the line speed would range between 10Mbps and 19.5Mbps. Our test also indicates that your line could support an estimated ADSL 2+ Annex-M broadband upstream line speed of 1.5Mbps and downstream line speed of 17Mbps; typically the downstream speed would range between 10Mbps and 19.5Mbps.
The actual stable line speed supportable will be determined during the first 10 days of use. This speed may change over time, to ensure line stability is maintained.
If you decide to place an order, a further test will be performed to confirm if your line is suitable for the service you wish to purchase.
    Thank you for your interest.
Please note that postcode and address check results are indicative only. Most accurate results can be obtained from a telephone number check.
Note: If you already have a Broadband service enabled on this line and you want to switch service providers, you will need to contact both your current provider and your new provider to get your service changed over new and existing service provider to have this service transferred.
Also provision of some services may not be allowed due to product withdrawal, please contact your service provider for further details.
It appears everyone else with a BT account in town has upgraded, including the neighbour (he is served from the same street cab. as I ) but not me. Incidentally I tested my modem ( I bought a new one in anticipation of the upgrade) and it works just fine next door.
So, is this a normal period of time to wait for the switch? I understand that the switches are done in batches but there arent that many connections from that exchange (small town), I have emailed BT tech and used their web messages and received not a single reply, not even an acknowledgement.  I would have rang but I work odd hours so it isn't easy, I am off on Monday (yay finally a day off) so I am going to try and resolve this by 'phone. I am concerned however that the best resolution will be to migrate away
Any opinions on whether or not I have waited long enough?

When i was updating i phone version 4 from Itunes. It got stuck in middle of updating, after uninstall the version3. But new version was not installed. Now itunes is not detecting the iphone and iphone is also not working and showing connection cable with itunes. Pls help..

Check your system for possible Malware. But you have to do it in WIndows Safe Mode.
(Do not use your own Anti-virus to SCAN)
Start your computer in "Safe mode with networking", go to this link download a free version of Malwarebyte.
    http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free
Install and perform update immediately, then do a full SCAN. Remove malware if it indeed finds any. Restart computer to regular windows to let Malwarebyte complete the removal.
To start your computer in safe mode
Press and hold the F8 key as your computer starts. You need to press F8 before the Windows logo appears. If the Windows logo appears, you'll need to try again by waiting until the Windows logon prompt appears, and then shutting down and restarting your computer.
On the Advanced Boot Options screen, use the arrow keys to highlight the "safe mode with networking" option, and then press Enter. Log on to your computer with a user account that has administrator rights.
When your computer is in safe mode, you'll see the words Safe Mode in the corners of your screen. To exit safe mode, restart your computer and let Windows start normally.

  • Seeking Diagnosis: ADSL Max: Automatic Reset of Hu...

I’m hoping that the forum can suggest a diagnosis for an intermittent problem with my BT broadband link. I’ve been told in the past that my link uses ADSL Max. The problem has occurred before, though not for a couple of months, and not since an NTE5 and service-specific face plate were installed. I previously posted about this under the title “BT Hub3 - What Exactly Does 'Connection time' Mean?”.
The problem is that the Hub (specifically a Hub 3) performed an automatic reset (after the connection had been stable for almost 25 days), and on completion of the reset the upstream bit rate had fallen to a mere 160 kbit/s. The downstream bit rate had also fallen, but only slightly, and its value remained perfectly acceptable given the length of my phone line.
I’ve pasted below some statistics that I took from the hub manager, together with the date and time of their retrieval. Clearly the problem is correlated with, and probably caused by, a decline in the Noise Margin Up figure from 21.0 dB to 5.0 dB, and I’m interested in knowing whether this is symptomatic of a fault in BT’s network, or of any other obvious cause. I was actually talking on my phone line when the reset occurred, and I was alerted to it by crackling on the line.
Having identified the reduction in upstream bit rate I recovered the situation by unplugging the broadband cable and then plugging it in again a few moments later. I suspect that had I not done this the upstream bit rate would still be far too low. It is reasonable to expect that a low upstream bit rate would be corrected automatically, but my past experience is that this does not happen, and I’d be interested in knowing whether dynamic line management focuses exclusively on the downstream bit rate.
    Thanks in anticipation.

  • Moved house and placed back on ADSL Max. Help plea...

Hi, wondered if I could get some help on this issue please.
I have recently moved home and took the same number with us to the new address (connected to the same exchange). Phone service activated fine with the broadband activating 1 day later. At the previous address I was on ADSL2+ with a fairly decent connection (6800kbps download and 950kbps upload with 50dB attenuation).
Now the broadband has activated at the new address I am currently connected at 5408/448kbps. Stats are as follows:
    Upstream
    448
    Downstream
    5408
    SNR Margin(Upstream)
    17.0
    SNR Margin(Downstream)
    6.0
    Line Attenuation(Upstream)
    29.5
    Line Attenuation(Downstream)
    48.0
Not particularly concerned about the downstream speed at this point (although I'm hoping after the 10 day training period to see some increase as I've lost over 1 meg despite moving just around the corner). The problem is the upload at 448kbps. Given the high upstream SNR margin it would appear that I've been moved from ADSL2+ to ADSL Max. The router also seems to confirm this:
    Operational Mode
    G.DMT
I am assuming this is some sort of mistake as the move should have been for a like-for-like service. Is there any way I can get put back onto ADSL2+ in order to benefit from the increased upload speed? BT Infinity was supposed to go live at the end of September and still waiting so really want to maximise the most out of the current connection.
    Thanks,
    Tom

  • Am I on ADSL Max or ADSL2+

    Hi,
Please bear with me as I am something of a computer ignoramus.
Four different contacts with BT confirmed that my exchange, Kimbolton, was upgraded to ADSL2+ during W/C 23rd April.  However, my router is still showing my Modulation as G.992.1 Annex A, which according to things I have read suggests I am only on ADSL Max.
Which do I believe and is there any other way of checking please ?

OP, Hold your breath as long as possible, very likely your down speed will drop once moved, consider modem/router that would let you force a less sensitive modulation. Also consider if your set up from the  BT master socket is good as it can be!

  • ADSL Max // ADSL2+ advice needed please!

    Hi there,
I play online games every night. About a year ago I was enjoying pings of around 30 in game throughout the evening etc and a sync rate of 13000 (which as I understand is ADSL2+), my ping rose steadily up to 50+ until I decided to contact BT two days ago and have interleaving switched off on my line. My ping has now dropped back to around 30 in game, but my sync rate is now 8000. I have done a few router (homehub 2.0) resets recently and uptime is only a couple of days. My details are below.
    My questions are:
    - Will my sync rate improve above 8000 (which I understand is ADSL Max) on its own over the next few weeks, or do I have to ask to have my connection switched back over to ADSL2+ manually?
    - Does having interleaving removed from my connection mean I am only able to get ADSL Max?
    - My Homehub 2.0 still shows latency type as Interleaved. Will this ever change to show the correct reading, or is it a bug in the firmware? Lots of people ask this question but don't seem to get an answer. I have held off doing a router reset since changing to Fastpath as this will delay any sync rate improvements. A restart after interleaving was removed didn't fix the router latency type reading.
Thanks for your help guys and gals.

Thanks for getting back to me RogerB,
As I mentioned I contacted BT regarding switching interleaving off, they kept me updated with the job in progress and sent an email back confirming it had been switched off, and forum moderator has also checked and confirmed it has completed (roughly mid day 27th July). Perhaps there is a delay in this showing on the Hub? My ping and latency issues have vanished since this time, I just wondered if there was a problem with the Hub displaying the correct value, as I'm almost certain it is actually off? A quick google check comes up with other people in this situation also.
    Thanks again RogerB

At the end it will ask whether you want to restore, choose iCloud backup.

  • Remote connection to folder applescript throwing error after 10.6.7 update

I have the following applescript steps that have worked perfectly until we updated the two server machines it runs between (one is a file server, the other is a client machine running filemaker server):
--set initial values to the filesystem variables
    set lstServer to "FileServer.local"
    set lstFolder to "Files/Automated"
    set lstSubfolder to "EventsReporter"
    set lstAccountName to "*****"
    set lstAccountPassword to "*****"
    --this builds the connection string
    set lstAFP to "afp://" & lstAccountName & ":" & lstAccountPassword & "@" & lstServer & "/" & lstFolder & "/" & lstSubfolder & "/"
--this is what the local computer will recognize as the mounted folder
set mountedFolder to lstSubfolder & ":"
--this behaves as both prefix filter and as the name of the subdirectory under the local Documents folder
    set lstPrefix to "DVER"
repeat with idx from 1 to 3
    set ping_result to (do shell script "ping -c 1 " & lstServer)
if ping_result contains "100% packet loss" then
    delay 3
    else
    exit repeat
    end if
    end repeat
    if idx ≥ 3 then return -1
    --call the Finder application
    --try
    tell application "Finder"
    activate
--check to see if the volume/folder is already mounted & if not then mount it
    if not (exists mountedFolder) then
    try
    mount volume lstAFP
    on error
    return -1
    end try
    end if
--get a list of files in the remote folder & get a count of them
    set mountedFolderRef to folder mountedFolder
The script now fails on the last step whereas it never did before:
    set mountedFolderRef to folder mountedFolder
    with the error:
error "Finder got an error: Can’t get folder \"EventsReporter:\"." number -1728 from folder "EventsReporter:"
This script must run without user intervention. What changed and where is it documented?? This has to be fixed, I cannot spare the time to continue to periodically move these files manually. This runs in two separate scripts with the only difference being the subfolder name and both have failed simultaneously. I am not very good with applescript and I do not know how to fix this newest issue.
    Someone please help!

    Thank you for your reply
Actually, the situation has resolved itself. What we believe to be the case after having watched this error unfold itself, is that with file and/or filesystem level changes that may have been instituted for certain corrections to how it handles SMB, we feel that there may have been a background process crawling through the filesystem slowly making those changes file-by-file or sector-by-sector.
I would watch one portion of the remote access script work, then not work, then another quit working. Then after several hours they each can back online without error, one by one.
    (* beginning of rant ...
It would have been nice to have a little notice about whatever was causing this issue so I didn't have to waste most of a day crawling the web for answers and tweaking various portions of a test script to see what now did work and what did not.
Ah, well. I suppose I should be used to such by now with apple :/
Am I being a dinosaur or can anyone else remember a day when complete documentation for a product was available with the product or by purchasing a relatively inexpensive reference book? These days it seems as though, where useful information is even available, it is only after many months after a product has come out and then it is at a premium. Even then most of it is only a surface description.
    ... end of rant *)

  • Wi-Fi not working a few months after screen replacement.

    Hi all,
Recently bought a used iPhone, and the previous (original) owner had the screen replaced after dropping it. Apparently, the phone was working absolutely perfect after the screen was replaced, and then a few months after, the wi-fi stopped working. Everything else in the phone is working perfectly fine.
I'm guessing this is probably just a loose connection or something, but could someone give me a possible cause?
    Thanks!

My wife had the same problem with iPad 2 after upgrade to 6.0. Don't know if it was important but she had NOT upgraded to iTunes 10.7. I ended up doing a DFU restore and then restored software (still IOS 6.0) and then a iCloud restore and everything was fine with the WiFi . Restoring all music and photos now.
