Connection timeout while downloading iOS 5.01

Does anyone have such a problem that downloading of iOS 5.01 stops halfway through with this message "Network Connection Timeout"?
No matter how many times I tried the same happens when I tried to help my friend update her iPhone 3GS using iTunes.
How do you solve this problem?

Thanks for the advice. I already upgraded my own iPhone 3GS and yes there seems to be a big drain on my batt life.
What I'm more concerned for my friend is the updates in future future for her iPhone, say a better iOS 5 version?
Why is there such a connection time error when she tries to update via iTunes?

    I have a MacBook pro with Lion 10.7.5 and I recently notices the error msg "network connection timeout" poping up everytime I download a file larger than 200mb or do an update on garageband!!! I use VPN at home (student) and downloading stuff goes smoothly on my windows computer. I do not have any sort of anivitus installed on my Mac, nor have I its firewall turned on!!   • Connection timeout while downloading iPhone 4.1

    I have iPhone 4.0.2 version installed in my iPhone. I keep trying to upgrade to 4.1 but i am facing continuously connection timeout.
    Each time it download upto 80MB out of huge file ~300MB after (I dont know why apple don't support break in downloading) that it rolls back due to connection timeout. As my internet connectivity is also running fine.
    Could anyone help me on this i got frustrated keep trying and waiting for a long time and finally ended with timeout issues.

I tried downloading manier times but not worth after downloading half of the size i lost my network connection and error -3253 pop up.  I also turned off windows firewall but nothing is worth.     Something happened to my 4S while trying to download iOS 7.  I recevied an error message, then my phone shut off.  After connecting it to iTunes again, I'm being told that I have to restore my phone and I can't get past a screen (on my phone) with a USB cord pointing towards iTunes.  Have I lost everything?

    So to get out of "recovery mode" I need to go through with the "restore" and then try to bring everything in from my cloud?  I'm not tech savy at all and this phone was given to me for work... I'm afraid I'm pretty useless when it comes to technology.

    keep trying. i'm guessing their servers are trying to catch up to the amount of traffic requesting ios 7, so you may keep seeing issues for a little while. but it should all even out before too long

    I freakin hate whats happening while downloading ios6 in my laptop iTunes, it says my internet connection is not workin and yet its already done downloading. it just only the processing file. then after that it says ther it was ERROR. what the. 4 times i tired and yet im out of patience  an i have a faster internet. ******* me off.

    It is because the servers are too busy because everyone has been trying to update their devices in the past couple of days. It took me 3 tries to successfully update mine, so keep trying. It will eventually work.
