Connection to 2540X1600 monitor

I have a macpro 6 cores 3.33 2010. I want to connect to a new Dell 30 inches with 2540X1600 resolution. I have a mini display to HDMI (moshi sold by Apple) , but the supported resolution is only 1920X1080. The Dell have a display port but NOT a mini DP... So what would be the best connection to have the full defition ?

HDMI is roughly equivalent to Single-Link DVI, which is generally OK up to about 1920 wide. The setup you have is inadequate for the resolution you desire.
A simple Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable will do what you want. "Mini" is only a variance in the size of the connector -- otherwise it is exactly DisplayPort, so no conversion is required if you go this route. Amazon sells one for cheap:

Alternatively you could connect using a Dual-Link DVI cable, if your monitor supports it. If it does not, the converter is expensive.

I have a HP Pavilion dv4t-4200 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC model # A1M02AV and it has a VGA port, one that looks like a phone/broadband cable port, and one that looks like a USB port but indented on either side at the bottom. Can I even connect an external monitor? How do I find out if I have more than 1 video card? Besides the usual USB/headphone ports, I don't have any other ports. I am trying to connect a Dell external montitor via the VGA port with a VGA cable. The monitor has power but my notebook does not recognize/detect it. However, when I first plugged it in, my notebook display shrank into a square (vs the whole screen) so it recognized something...but nothing happened on the external monitor.
I tried detecting it via my display settings, but I accidentally changed some dispaly setting so that the home desktop only shows on monitor 1, but unselected my actual notebook display or something or changed it to be monitor 2 (even though monitor 1 does not exist), so when I plug the cable in to my notebook, all of a sudden my desktop goes away and it's a just a blank background screen - and I cannot access the computer display settings or anything.... when the cable is unplugged this setting looks normal, so I can't figure out how to fix it.
Sorry, I have no idea what I'm doing here - please help!

Hi,
All Dell monitors come with CD's for drivers. Your laptop may not know the monitor w/o its driver, it won't install automatically. Please check:
Ringht click a blank space on desktop,
Click Personalize
Click Display
Click Change display settings
Can you see BOTH laptop screen and external monitor in there as shown on the following image:
For testing, I put my Dell monitor is my main display. If I can't see 2 monitor, you need its driver first and then check the cable.

Dear Jean:
It sounds like you are trying to get your external monitor to act as the primary viewing screen. For example it would have your Doc, Icons, Etc. In order to make the external monitor the primary screen you have to:
Open System Preferences.
Choose the Displays Icon
There will be several tabs to choose from pick Arrangement
Drag the toolbar to desired display

Hi,
What is the model/product of your AIO machine ? I many cases, you can't use HDMI port to connect to a TV because it is HDMI IN port. You need USB - HDMI converter/adapter to connect to a TV (or monitor).

DVI connection to second monitor doesn't work

When I had the connection from my Mac Pro to my two monitors (20" Cinema display and 19" Princeton monitor), I had the black screens for a few seconds for both monitors then return to normal. It happens anytime. I read the forum and changed the VGA cable to connect the 19" Princeton monitor and now both monitors work fine.
Do I have to live with the VGA cable option or anyone know how to utilize the DVI connection capability of Mac Pro please help?

I tried to locate the right slot (x16) by going to
Expansion Slot Utility and changed from #1 to #2. It
showed my configuration of the PCI card now is x16 or
fully speed.
The problem is still the same with DVI connection to

I'm fresh out of idea's. I assume that your card is a 7300GT, correct? I had an out of the box failure with mine and Apple replaced it. I was lead to believe that there were quite a few failures with the card. Interesting, they didn't even want the old one back.
I'd go the Applecare route next and see what they say. FYI, I have two of these running three monitors (all apple flat panels) all on DVI connectors.

But it dowsn't let me use all three monitors at once(see the below image). In the dropdown, it lists all three monitors. Problem is there are two active displays I can select.

MacBook Pro Retina Wont Connect back to Monitor

Hey Everyone,
I have a MacBook Pro Retina Early 2013 15in that is running OS X Yosemite - 10.10.2 - Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB
At Work for the past 1.5 years i have been connecting to a Dell Monitor via a DVI to HDMI Cable to use as my primary screen and have never had any issues. During the day I often present on the projector in the BoardRoom a Dell 4610X using a direct HDMI cable.
The issue: Ever since I have updated my laptop to Yosemite, every time i connect my macbook to my monitor after its been connected to the projector it will no longer connect. The monitor will recognize that there is something connected but it wont show anything. Even if i try another display in the office the same thing happens. The issue will always resolve if i restart the computer.
Recently I had an issue with the Logic Board and it was replaced by an Apple Certified repair shop. This issue was happening even before the logic board was replaced and it is still having the same issues now, so I don't believe its an hardware issue.
Although this issue is not critical, its a nuisance to re-start my laptop each time i get back to my desk after a meeting in the boardroom...
I would high appreciate some help on this!!

Something else to check ..
Open System Preferences > Network then select the Wi-Fi tab.
Drag the school wi fi network name to the top of the list.
You can open System Preferrences by clicking the System Preferences icon in your Dock
Or click System Preferences from your Apple menu icon top left in your screen.
Or, from your Applications folder.

Here are the specs for your HP TouchSmart 520-1070 Desktop Computer. As previously stated your computer Doesn't have a HDMI output, instead it has a HDMI input. This is designed to let you connect a game console, a DVD/Bluray player, etc. to use as a monitor.
If you wish to conect a second monitor to your computer, you will need to use a USB-to-video adapter such as the EVGA UV Plus+ UV39 or EVGA UV Plus+ UV19. Using an adapter like these with the touch feature of your computer may cause issues with pointer control and you may need to disable the touch feature to use "extended desktop".

I have a USB to DVI adapter from kensington. I use to use it to power at 14" display.Moving windows around had some tearing and lag. Typing lagged, but it was use-able. It was fine for displaying diffrent stats. The OS treated it as it would any additional display.
But I found it undesirable for any thing tha requires lots dragging and clicking.
Every so often the device would lock up. At witch point the computer would get stuck trying to detect the USB display. I would have to unplug the adapter, cycle the power on the adapter. And then it would be good for a couple more months.
Also some times after a reboot, the adapter would stop working. I would have to unplug it, and login, and then plug it back in.
Coping file to my USB 2 harddrive seemed to cause more lag to the USB to Video Adapter.
About the idea of dasiy chaining 3 Thunderbolt display tgeother. Apple Thunderbolt Display (27-inch): Connection options for Thunderbolt Macs states the most the current MacBook Pro 15 & 17 inch can currently drive is 2 Apple Thunderbolt Displays.
