Connection to database takes a considerable amount of time

Hi,
This is basically an IDS 10g thing. Same issue in Reports
1. Whenever I connect to Oracle 10g by pressing CTRL J, it takes like 4-5 mins to connect to Oracle. This only happens once till I close down Forms 10g and reopen it.
2. A related thing, I cannot FILE-OPEN any .fmb file till I first connect to database, or else I just get one of those windows errors (not responding) and the form builder crashes.
Environment:
1. Windows 7 x64 and x86
2. Windows 8 x64
3. Connecting to Oracle 10g.
i7 processor 8gb ram, plenty of hard drive space.
Why does this happen, how do I fix it?

  • Update 3.1.3 Vault backup takes an inordinate amount of time...

Installed the update, 3.1.3. Now clicking Vault icon to update the Vault, the update takes an inordinate amount of time. In addition after the update the Vault icon, lower left, remains red.
Normal Vault update goes to the server, prior to the update it ran quite fast then icon turned black. As a test I created a new Vault on my Desktop (deleted the original), again update takes an inordinate amount of time, still the Vault icon is red.
    MacBook Pro, 8 GB RAM, 10.6.8, 2.4 GHz i5.

    Hi shutterp33d,
That speed answer is a yes and no. To the local drive yes speed is almost where it was prior to the 3.1.3 update. Over to the network drive it is quite slow. Even direct connected to an external vault update is much slower than before the 3.1.3 update.
My network is AirPort Extreme to which I have a Pogoplug connected with RJ45, a Seagate 1.5 TB external drive is connected to the Pogoplug via USB 2.0.
At present Aperture vault update has been running forty-five minutes being one third through. So, shutdown the Pogoplug did a direct cable connect to the Seagate from the laptop still vault update is taking a longer time than before the update.
This time the icon has changed from red to black. Then I disconnected the USB cable direct connect, reconnected the external to the the Pogoplug. Maybe this is a Pogoplug hit maybe not.
    Thank you for listening.

  • Estimating Size of backup Items taking considerable amount of time?

The part of the Azure Online Backup that does the "estimating size of back items" is taking hours to complete.   Is there anyway to speed it up?  I want to be backing up files right away, not have to wait for an estimate of size.

    Hi,
the message might be little misleading but as part of estimating size of the backup items, we enumerate what all files and directories need to be backed up based on whether they changed from last backup and then start backing them up. if you have huge amount
of files and directories say like a build server then its likely you will be seeing this. We already have a feature request to improve this for such kind of workloads.
    Thanks

  • When I try to snyc my iphone 5 or iPad 2 iTunes 11 takes an excessive amount of time recognizing them, please help!

iTunes 11 is junk and when I updated to it, it now takes at least 25 minutes for itunes to recognize my iphone or ipad.  This is so frustratinig when I want to quickly sync new music, videos, etc...
I have tried everything under the sun to fix the problem including resoring software and even trying to downgrade to iTunes 10.
Is anyone else experiencing these same issues? if so were you able to find a fix?
    Your help is appreciated.

No one else is seeing this.  Time to troubleshoot your computer - nothing to do with iTunes itself unless it was incorrectly installed.  Not the phone either.

What bothers me is when I do get a new iOS device, iPad and/or iPhone 5, and I don't want to just copy the back-up of my current iOS device to the new one, then to get the apps I want I will have to scroll through countless useless 'trash' applications in my purchase history to 'cloud download' the ones I want.
Just sync the apps you want from your computer. You don't need to redownload them directly on the iPhone Purchased list.
Will Apple be employing such a feature, a 'permanently delete/un-purchase' feature?
    Dunno.

  • [IE11] Expanding a group of items in a list takes an absurd amount of time

I'm currently dealing with a large sized list (<10,000 items) that is grouped by date, then subgrouped by a department name. A user had called in reporting that their browser (Internet Explorer 11) would become non-responsive whenever a group is expanded
    - it may sit there for ~15 seconds, then eventually open the list. I can confirm this behavior on my own computer, same browser. An older (slower) computer did not exhibit this behavior, and it seems only recently that our computers have started doing this.
The odd thing is that when I use Mozilla Firefox, the list expanding works fine.
The above profiling session seems to show an EnsureSelectionHandlerDeferred JS function is tying things up... but why?

If your environment is OOB then, it won't default to IE8. In scenario where we have deployed some solution in the farm for some custom features, Developers generally put this string inside the code so all the images and other thing would load as expected
and browser compatibility won't be the issue. But, in real world there are some other features which gets broken by using this.
So, i would recommend you to check if there is any custom solution, custom master page or custom page inside your environment? If there is then please check if below mentioned string is not mentioned.

    Hi Sergo,
those notes are a bit outdated, that is the reason I indicate to read the FAQ.
If you read it carefully you will realize of several things:
    1) the oracle client to be used depends on the SAP kernel version
    2) the way the oracle client is "linked" with the kernel depends also on the version.
You can take a look at the powerpoint attached to the note.
For the sake of simplification I'll go from kernel 4.6D (and forgot the exceptions)
Kernel 4.6D was linked against oracle client 8.0
The ORA_NLS33 has to point to the NLS files of that version. But oracle made something easier.
Oracle NLS files for version 8.1 are also compatible with 8.0.
This means that, even when the client was 8.0, you could use NLS files of 8.1.7 without any error (the one is refered in this thread)
Another thing is that the oracle client library was included on the SAP kernel, it was statically linked, SAP only needed the NLS files.
This changed a little with newer kernels.
    What happens with Kernel 6.20?
SAP does not includes the client inside the KERNEL, now the oracle library is dinamically linked. By default the kernel looks for it on the /oracle/client/81x_64/lib (assumming here 64 bit)
ORA_NLS33 can point to the oracle client or the oracle home, again we have compatibility.
But, then oracle start doing "funny" things with oracle 9i.
SAP kernel 6.40 is dynamically linked against this oracle client version. Now the search directory is /oracle/client/92x_64. But NLS files are not backwards compatible (later on Oracle provided information about a couple of environment variables to be able to use 9i nls files with 8x client)
it is more, nls files are not even compatible between oracle 9i versions.
For that reason, it could be that you have installed in your oracle home, lets say 9.2.0.7 and your ORA_NLS33 pointing to the oacle home.
But SAP kernel is using (if your environmet variables are OK) the library on the /oracle/client/92x_64 and you get the error ORA-12705 even when you think everything is OK.
Again, my recommendation is to follow the proper note.
If you are using a kernel that uses the client 9.2 then you have to configure the environment variables as the correspondent note for that client (539922 Installing the ORACLE client software 9.2.X for UNIX t) or other note that could complement it (like installing several clients on one server)
    Hope the explanation is clear.
Note. This is only valid for UNIX, in windows it is a different history.

  • What's wrong with this MySQL connection? "Could not create connection to database server"

I'm able to connect to other MySQL databases but this one particular remote MySQL connection isn't working and I cannot figure it out.  It probably has something to do with the remote server, not CF, but I thought I'd post it here if anyone had an idea.  The MySQL account has full priviledges.
Here is the message when I try to validate the data source:
Connection verification failed for data source: test
com.mysql.jdbc.exceptions.jdbc4.MySQLNonTransientConnectionException:  Could not create connection to database server. Attempted reconnect 3  times. Giving up.
The root cause was that:  com.mysql.jdbc.exceptions.jdbc4.MySQLNonTransientConnectionException:  Could not create connection to database server. Attempted reconnect 3  times. Giving up.

This happened on two servers.  One one, the cause was that skip-networking was turned on.  In the other situation, it appears that the database name was case sensitive, so TEST was not the same as test.  Even though I edited the data source in the CF administrator, it still didn't work (very misleading).  When a coworker entered a new data source with the same information (uppercase database name this time from the start), it worked.
Has anyone else seen this problem with the case sensitive database names?  And with the data source in CF not updating the case correctly?  Seems like a bug in CF.

    Hi Rahul,
this question does not seem to be related to SQL and PL/SQL forum.
I guess you could use {forum:id=64} or {forum:id=61} forums.

  • JSF-ADF //  no more connection ? // database unreachable

    Hi,
I developed a very simple application with a list on one page, an edit form on a second and a create form on a third page. Easy. No login.
Everything seems ok but after a certain amount of time, creation and edit don't work anymore. After a while, I can still change some value in my edit form and I'm able to commit them.
But I have two fields with a validation. This validation is made with a query validation at the entity level.
After a while, the system tells me that the validation fails (on these 2 fields) because "JBO-25200: Application module is not connected to a database".
So I'm no more able to insert a new record. But I still can change et commit old ones !?
Even if I restart my brower, it doesn't work, nor on other PC. I have to reload the webapplication.
    Any ideas
    For information, I use
jdev 10.1.3.0.4 whith ADF 10.1.3.36 and Tomcat 5.5.20, everything on windows
but I 'm pretty sure this is not the problem.

Nice idea, but exactly the same error (see below)
But even in the case of a network problem, then I should not be able to update (except those fields) old records . It is the validation step at the entity level that seems to cause some problem.
Do I have to take care to some configuration parameters of the module ?
JBO-27025: Failed to validate attribute SiteId with value AUT
JBO-27014: Attribute SiteId in ModuleDeBase.DemandeVO is required

  • Managed Server can not connect to Database

I have a WebLogic cluster with three managed Server on 3 different machines.
    ManagedServer_1, ManagedServer_2, ManagedServer_3 (on Machine 3)
Firstly, everything is ok. But when we changed some configuration on Firewall and make the WebLogic cluster could not connect to database. 3 servers change status from Running to Warning. Then, we undo all the changes to the Firewall configuration. 3 Servers could connect to Database again but still in warning state.
It is strange that when I tried to restart ManagedServer_3. That server could not be up normally. It went to Admin state and all the datasources and connection pool could not be created. I tried to restart the machine 3 and start the server but it still failed to make server running normally.
( I made the test connecting to Database from Machine 3, everything is okie, I can got data from database, port 1521 opened )
Has anyone got the same problem and how to fix it? Is that the problem with the admin server?

JDBC DataSources/Connection pools are all at Domain Level. All we do is just target the datasources to AdminServer and Entire cluster (this will take care of all managed servers in the cluster). From Weblogic Console, TEST the data sources for any firewall issues. If this works from console, check from where you are accessing the Console like within the Firewall, that can access the database server. Even though the actual application is deployed only on cluster, still I would recommend targetting the datasources to both AdminServer and Cluster.

  • Enterprise manager is not able to connect to database instance

    Hi
I am having a problem with Oracle EM. I would appreciate very much if anyone can help me.
I installed Oracle on XP which runs on virtual pc on XP as well. Everything is fine, I can connect to database with sqlplus, and there were no errors during installation.
But the problem is that, when I try to connect to database with EM, it says:
Enterprise manager is not able to connect to database instance . The state of the components are listed below.
    Can anoyone help me?

When you want OEM DB , your existing DB should be created by DBCA or if suppose manually creaed DB then you have to configure that DB to EM by

  • Unable to Connect to Database (after server has been re-started)

Hi,<BR><BR>I use Essbase Admin Services 7.1.3 and the server was not responding, therefore our IT guys re-started it. Since then I am unable to connect to one of the applications. I have tried to start/Stop the application but it just says "Application did not start". <BR><BR>There are 6 databases in this application altogether (3 data and 2 Currency). The application has been there for about 3 years (it holds historic sales data) and there has never been any problems with it.<BR><BR>When I tried to Start the application, in the message panel at the bottom it says "Error: 1013015 Unable to Connect to Database (2003)". It's as if there is a problem with this 2003 database but the 2002 and 2004 database are OK.<BR><BR>Has anyone ever had this problem and knows how to rectify it??<BR><BR>Thanks in advance.<BR><BR>Sarah

It may be that the server restart corrupted the database. Go into database properties and uncheck the box start database with application and then try to restart the application.<BR><BR>You can try database validation, or simply reload the database from backup. But you can get the application up and the rest of the databases up by decoupling the database restart from the application start.<BR><BR>There will be a .xcp log file in your application directory (and possibly your database directory.) These might help Hyperion Support in identifying the cause of the problem. But the quickest solution would be to reload the database from backup. The serer and application logs can also provide help in identifying the problem.<BR><BR>One of the keys is to determine why the server is not responding before restarting the server. It may be that a single application is the source of problem. Typical causes are unscheduled free space restructures, application loads of large databases, and an occasional rogue process. Rather than rebooting the entire box, or even restarting the Essbase server, the safest approach is to only kill the job that is soaking up the cpu cycles, causing the server to be unresponsive. This requires identifying the offending process (esssvr.exe) and killingit. Often that restores the rest of the system to operations, giving you time to focus onthe offending application.<BR><BR>You learn thses things when you are pushing the server to its limits (or beyond). If it happens often, you need to do a serious performance audit of teh server and determine whether you need more power and/or memory. <BR><BR>And in any case, you are less likely to encounter this sort of problem in the future if you try to limit applications to a single database. This will allow a better utilization of system resources. And also, it's a good idea to shut down applications that you are not going to be using for a while. Every loaded app takes system resources whether or not it is doing anything. So review your list of apps that start on startup and consider unloading apps after completing batch processing. <BR><BR>Sorry about the long lecture, but I speak from somewhat painful experience. I hope that this will help you.
