Connection to google mail acts weird

Getting lost connection messages, while in Google mail, but everything else works OK.

yes, gmail worked before and still works on my laptop, bet it would work on my 7 year old ipaq if I dug it out of the closet...... just not on playbrick.
I already had private mode off then on then off again rebooted cleared cache and everything else could toggle. so no gmail, no popmail or smtp or whatever. I just own a very expensive browser at this point. Come to think of it the ipaq ran a pretty good browser and handled my ms access and excell apps pretty well, had decent handwriting recognition, and skype ..... Too bad there isnt a playbrick ipaq emulator!

  • Safari & Software update unable to connect to server, Mail acting funny to

I posted this on the Safari discussion pages with no replies to date. I'm hoping maybe someone here has some ideas.
As of yesterday morning I can't get to a large number of sites using Safari, but am able to get to them using Firefox (I'm posting this using Firefox). I get the message "can't connect to server."
Apple Mail connects and retrieves my email, but doesn't display web-based graphics. Software update says it can't connect.
    Specifically: can't get to google.com, livepage.apple.com, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page, to name just a few.
I can get to online.wellsfargo.com/cgi-bin/signon.cgi. Also, I can get to this page webmail.earthlink.net/wam/login.jsp?x=-721966586, but when I sign in I get the "Safari can't connect to server" message.
I haven't made any system changes recently. I'm at a loss to figure out what the problem is.

    You're Welcome Again caecot!
Are you using an Administrator account?
No guarantees, but try this procedure.
-Again delete the items that I listed in My Previous Reply.
    -Run Repair Permissions.
-Reinstall the PPC 10.4.10 Combo Update.
    -Again run Repair Permissions.
-Reset the Safari Preferences, as instructed HERE.

  • Mail acting weird since yesterday

Hi all! I'm running OS 10.8.3 on an iMac (Intel). I'm using Mail version 6.3 (1503).
It's been working fine until last night. All of a sudden, it's acting strange.
Here are some things I've noticed:
         1. Often (but not always) when I delete an email, it deletes a second email from my inbox as well — one that's either right above or below the one I meant to delete
         2. When I click on an email to view it (I have my email set up so I can see the list of emails and then the actual email I've selected... see screenshot), it automatically opens the email in a separate window (when I did NOT double click to open it)
         3. When I click on an email to reply to someone, TWO windows of that same email pop up
It's like it's super hyper sensative or something. Any ideas what is causing this to happen? I can live with the second two issues, but the first one is not good. I don't even know what it's deleting.
    Thanks!
    Julie

    Hi Tuttle,
I'm glad you are not experiencing the problem. However, there is NO confusion here - the numbers are random and do NOT represent the incoming or the outgoing numbers of messages as you would normally expect. This morning I got 195 of 195 and got no messages coming in at all! I have been using Macs for more than a decade and this has never happened before. This has only happened for the first time when I changed to Mavericks and is happening on both of my laptops (macbook air and Macbook Pro 15inch) - it is NOT the computer.
"To my eyes, the numbers we see in the Activity pane increase in increments of 1 with each message that is sent or received by a given mail account, starting with "1 of 1" after Mail is launched in any given session"  - of course this is what you would expect to happen.
If the problem doesn't exist for you then your comments, as well intended as they are, are not really going to help - it is a bit like me telling you it is raining outside but you are in a railway tunnel - what rain?  I am grateful for your contribution and interest so please don't take offence. The issue is known to Apple Techs - they tell me that they can see the same thing happening on their computers - and their explanation of why it is happening is somewhat frustrating and definitely not sitting well with me.
I suppose at the end of the day, if I get my emails I should not be too concerned but for those having this experience it is still a bit lame.

  • Mail acting weird and lost all emails yesterday

I live in Australia using the Telstra Bigpond internet services. Bigpond is a POP server (POP3 I think) and is in the process of migrating customers to the IMAP system. I am on the POP system.
I successfully, I thought, installed the Mavericks update and all seemed well until I noticed that when I went to collect my mail from the Bigpond server I would see the progress bar (for the incoming messages) flash quickly across the screen saying "10 of 10" but no messages were in my 'IN BOX'. I checked the Bigpond server and there were none sitting on the server and all had been delivered to my in box - supposedly!.
I thought I would test the outgoing and incoming by sending a test message and 3 of 3 were sent (I only sent one). When the message come back it came back in a flash as 6 of 6 but was not in my inbox at all.
I contacted Apple support (still working with them on this problem) and we made some changes to my junk mail settings and removed all 'Rules' and now the emails are coming in - I have lost a full days emails and don't know if I can get them back so far I can't. The mail program is still stating 3 of 3 incoming when just one message comes in or 4 of 4 when one is sent (the numbers being sent and received bear no relationship to the numbers coming in nor being sent and are completely, it seems, random.
I also have a 'flagged' message inidicated in the flagged box under the 'Inbox' but no message is there at all and I cannot remove the flag.
I have not done any changes to my mail program at all to create this problem that did not exist before I installed Mavericks and I have not attempted to try anything with iCloud mail before I can see a resolution to my laptop mail problems.
For information my 15" macbook pro is compatible with the Mavericks upgrade and I have no other obvious problems at this point that I can identify - Photoshop CS5 seems to be working OK and I have had no problems with the Windows 7 partition (bootcamp) after installing Mavericks. Just Mail at the moment.
Any thoughts on how I can remove the 'flag' for a non existant message and get the incoming and outgoing 'counter' to read accurately?
    Thanks

  • Mail acting weird suddenly...

I keep all of my mail locally on my machine...today I came in and searched for a message that I needed info from and get this -
The message from XXXXX XXXXXX <[email protected]> concerning “19 great iPhotos of Adam at Speed Street in Charlotte” has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it.
Now, I know for a fact it has been downloaded, because I have read this email...In fact, ALL of my emails are like this. *** happened here? How can I get back my emails? My account IS online and there is nothing on the server to download as I keep my messages stored on my machine locally in mail.
    Any help?

    Hello Allen.
This error message indicates an "overstuffed" mailbox issue which was much more common with Jaguar and Panther Mail.
The recommend mailbox size limit for Jaguar/Panther Mail is 1 GB and for Tiger Mail, 2 GB.
Did you upgrade from Jaguar or Panther to Tiger on this Mac or did you use the Migration assistant to transfer Mail.app data from an older Mac running Jaguar or Panther to this Mac running Tiger?

  • Is Your Lion OSX Macbook Mail Acting Weird (slow, non-responsive, prolonged color wheel, etc.)

My mail became unresponsive or extremely slow. Spinning gear-wheel next to account name never stopped spinning. There was also a little white circle with a squiggle in it next to account name. It took for ever to send myself an email, retrieve email from Cloud. The app often froze with a perpetual spinning color-wheel and ALWAYS required me to force-quit.
I searched online and in the forums. Nobody seemed to have an answer for this widespread problem. Then one of the techies in the Lion OSX forum talked me through some tests and we discovered the problem and the cure - at least for people who have been using a dot-mac email address.
You need to go into Mail preferences. At the bottom of the "account" page are a small plus and minus button. Blue-highlight your "dot-mac" (.mac) account listing in the upper left corner of the page, then click the minus button and "delete" the dot.mac account. You will still have your other - current - email account intact (.mac no longer exists - THAT'S why its presence on your email app is causing all the problems).
I did this, and ALL my email problems have gone away. The app now functions perfectly again.
Hope this solves your problem too.

PS - don't worry...mail addressed to you via your old dot-mac address will still reach you via your free Mobile-Me email acct and via Cloud.

  • Jakey: Firefox issues with regular google mail

I can't use firefox with regular connection to google mail. It was suggesed that I disable Adblock and I did for google mail but it still doesnt load

I've checked both the http proxy and the https proxy and both settings are the same...
I've asked around and some people have suggested that the local council have made changes to there firewall, but surely this would affect both network and non-network users, as proxy login credentials still have to be entered to gain access to the internet.

  • Losing network connection and NIC acts weird from warm/hot weather/temperatures?

    Hello.
Is there a known issue on MSI P43 NEO3-F (MSI-7514) motherboards' onboard RealTek RTL8168C (P)/8111C(P) PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC network disconnecting and acting weird during warm/hot weather?
I noticed lately and back on 1/11/2009 night when weather got warm/hot (e.g., my room can get over 85F degrees, but lately it has been 80F degrees), my network would lose its connection. See http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/5580/screenshots.gif for a few SpeedFan's sensor readings when the incidents occurred. I have never seen this happen when the weather is cooler (60-70F degrees in my room).
I also think this only happens if I am using the PC lightly (nothing intensive) like watching fullscreen videos (video overlay), surfing the Web, etc. I don't see any errors or evidences that it happens when idled (e.g., asleep or out). Uptime doesn't seem to matter since I have seen days to 3.5 hours.
I tried upgrading network driver twice (e.g., Realtek_XP_5714_0219 from
http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=13&PFid=5&Level=5&Conn=4&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false ...), disabling Kerio Personal Firewall v2.1.5 (XP's disabled already), releasing and renewing IP address (works, but still no network -- can't even ping my router!), unplugging and replugging the cat5 cable (do see the network port lights on), touching the network jack and hardware inside and outside of the case (not hot), trying another cat5 cable and a network port on a switch instead router's), changing from "Minimal Power Management" to full power (no underclocking/slowing down when idled), etc.
    During the disconnections, I tried:

I also noticed the disconnections usually start with red X icon in my taskbar with its bubble and then later the long disconnection even though no red X (1 GB and connected). If I were to disconnect the cat5 cable from NIC, then it wouldn't even detect it is missing the cable!
The only way to fix this was to reboot (best way and last longer) OR disable network connection and re-enable it (Windows XP's Network Connections) or the NIC itself (Device Manager), but that doesn't always last long (maybe a minute). Example of my pings right after disabling and re-enabling NIC:
    C:\>ping 192.168.0.1 -t
Pinging 192.168.0.1 with 32 bytes of data:

Force your NIC to run at 100Mbps full duplex and see how it goes.
Check your router / switch ports as well as cables.
I will try 100 Mbps if it happens again. So far, it hasn't occurred after installing the driver supplied by MSI's Web site and not RealTek's Web site. The room temperatures even got warmer like 83F degrees.
As for router and switch, what am I checking for? Other computers didn't have any problems. As for cat5 cables, I already tried another one like I said in my original post.

  • Connecting to the Google Mail application on a Nok...

I've downloaded the Google Mail app but can't get it to connect to the network on my phone - after entering my user name and password I just get a message which says no network access.
My phone is set up for WAP web browsing and this works fine. I'd be very grateful for any help with this.

Thanks again. When I went back to my phone to add the port I disovered that there was an email set-up wizard option: I'm pretty sure that it wasn't there before so maybe it's a firmware update - I've only recently started using the data suite. The wizard duly set everything up and it's working fine now: hurrah!
Only problem now is that I have even less excuse for buying a smart phone: am resisting that temptation as I'm sure I'd only waste my time playing with it!
    Cheers.

  • MacBook Pro acting weird at startup

    Hi,
First of all thank you for reading this, it's quite a long story. And sorry for any grammatical mistakes, I'm Dutch.
    Summary
My MBP suddenly has been acting really weird: kernel_task eating 150-200% of the CPU which caused a super slow MBP, power button not working well, and MBP shutdown after ten minutes without touching it and with the battery on 90%. I did a clean install of OS X Lion, some PRAM and SMC resets and removed the MacBookPro7_1.plist file from the system library. The kernel_task high CPU problem is now fixed. But the power button is still not working: most of the time my MBP shuts down three seconds after I push the power button in a first attempt. In the second attempt I hold it for like five seconds and this works. Sometimes it works fine on the first attempt. Restarting the MBP from the desktop works fine. I'm also worried about the random shutdown. What could probably cause the problem with the power button and the MBP shutting down when I don't touch it, and is there a way to fix this myself? I'm not really into tech, so please keep your answer simple.
My MacBook Pro "13 (mid 2010) with OS X Lion has always been a charm since I bought it. I've never had any problems with my MBP until now. Two weeks ago I was going on a holiday and had to check a few things on my MBP in a hurry right before I was leaving. I'm afraid I forgot to turn off my MBP before I went on my holiday, but I can't remember this exactly. When I came back after a week, my MBP started acting weird at startup and then became really slow. The kernel_task was eating my CPU with 200% and I've tried many things to fix the MBP myself but it still isn't working well. I hope you can help me with this.
    This is what happened:
    1. When I push the power button to start my MBP, the first time it shuts down three seconds after I push the button. After the first attempt I hold the power button for five seconds, and my MBP turns on the right way. After all the fixes I've done this is still an issue.
    2. When I finally got my MBP started the first time after my holiday, it was really really really slow. I later found out that the cause was the kernel_task eating my CPU. It was using 150-200% with no applications running.
    3. The MBP was acting normally (not slow) in safe mode, but in safe mode I couldn't open some sites in Google Chrome, like Facebook and Google Maps. So this didn't work either (and was not the solution to my problem).
    4. I did some things with PRAM and SMC reset but this didn't work.
    5. A clean install was already on my mind for weeks, so I decided that this was the right moment. After I did a manual backup (not with Time Machine) I restarted my MBP holding some buttons to startup the OS X Utilities screen. I first erased my Macintosh HD and then I wanted to install Mavericks because that was the only option from the menu. It took me five hours and at the end it came up with a 'can't download Mavericks, try again' screen. The MBP wasn't starting up anymore because OS X Lion was already erased.
    6. So I became annoyed and decided to use my original Snow Leopard dvd which came with my MBP. Installing Snow Leopard took me two days!!!!!!!
    7. When I finally got Snow Leopard installed, it still was really really slow and the kernel_task was messing up my CPU again.
    8. After some hours of searching on the internet, I read the following thing: fixing the kernel_task problem was easy by removing a file from the system library (http://www.rdoxenham.com/?p=259). Of course I've researched this solution because I'm not a fan of changing things in the system. But I decided to give this a try and it worked! Like a charm!
    9. I still was on Snow Leopard and decided to upgrade to Lion again, because I did know for sure that my MBP could handle Lion and I wasn't sure with Mavericks. So I first downloaded Lion from the App Store and then opened the installation program. This took me one day again, probably because the file from the system library was put back with the installation of Lion...
    10. When I finally got Lion running, the kernel_task was using a high CPU% again so I removed the file from the system library again and restarted my MBP. This worked.
    11. I'm working on Lion for a day now and I've installed some applications (Adobe CS5 Master Collection, Office for Mac, updated my 17.000 mails in Mac Mail, and installed some browsers). It's working fine and the kernel_task is at 1-10%. The issue with the power button is still there but sometimes it works fine at the first attempt. Yesterday my MBP suddenly shut down when I didn't touch it for like ten minutes. The battery was still on 90%. Maybe this was caused by the fact that my MBP was running for four days non stop because of the OS X installations, and it was a hot day yesterday.
So this is what I've done so far in this order:
    1. First of all I did a manual backup on my external HDD. Not with Time Machine.
    2. I tried to restart my MBP multiple times. Restarting from the desktop worked well, but shutting it down and than turning it on with the power button didn't work well.
    3. I did PRAM and SMC resets multiple times.
    4. I decided to do a clean install and erased my Macintosh HD from the OS X Utilities screen at startup.
    5. Then I wanted to upgrade from Lion to Mavericks but Mavericks couldn't be downloaded.
    6. I've installed Snow Leopard from the original dvd, this took me two days.
    7. I've followed the instructions from http://www.rdoxenham.com/?p=259 (remove the file MacBookPro7_1.plist from the system library) and this worked for my MBP.
    8. Because my MBP was working fine again, I decided to upgrade to Lion. This took me one day.
    9. My MBP was really slow again: Lion put the MacBookPro7_1.plist back in the system library so I removed it again. This worked.
    10. The problem with the power button still holds so I did a SMC reset again. Didn't work. My MBP also shut down yesterday when I didn't touch it for like ten minutes. I hope this was caused by the fact that the MBP was running for four days non stop, and it was a hot day so maybe it was overheated.
So everything is working fine again, but the power button still isn't. Most of the time my MBP shuts down three seconds after I push the power button. In the second attempt I hold it for like five seconds and this works. Restarting the MBP from the desktop works fine, and the kernel_task is now using 1-10%. I'm also worried about my MBP suddenly shutting down. Is there a way to fix this myself?
    Thank you!
    Regards,
    TokkieTor

    TokkieTor,
This is the full error message I got from the test:
    4SNS/1/40000000: IP0R-9:166
I read that those letters (IP0R) stand for different errors in the hardware, in my case it's something with the Power Bus according to this website: http://www.cnet.com/news/how-to-invoke-and-interpret-the-apple-hardware-tests/.
Again, I'm really not into tech so what is a Power Bus and should I be worried?
what you have is a problem with a sensor which monitors power bus current. The power bus is the main pathway along which electricity travels in your MacBook Pro. If the sensor isn’t individually repairable, then you could have reason to worry — if they tell you that a logic board replacement would be needed, then that could cost hundreds of euros. (One would hope that replacing a sensor would not require a logic board replacement, but only hardware experts can say for sure.)

  • Cannot use Microsoft Exchange account to connect to Google Apps hosted accounts.

I am the Desktop and Device support Coordinator for my Department.  We use Google Apps to host our email, calendar, docs, etc.  On iOS and Android devices to connect we use an exchange account.
    Email: [email protected]
    Server: m.google.com
    Domain: domain.com
    Username: username
And it works just fine.  However when we give the touchpad the same info, we get an error, bad username or password.  This is using passwords greater than 12 characters, with spaces and special characters.
    Username: username
    Email: [email protected]
    Server: https://m.google.com
    Domain: domain.com
Any though on what we are doing wrong, or does webos exchange accounts not suppor this?
Post relates to: Pre p100eww (Sprint)

First, changing the password and trying it again with the "Google" account type doesn't work.  And it shouldn't, on every other device (Android, iOS) if we try it with the standard "Google" account it does not work.
Now on every other device we use the "Microsoft Exchange" account type and it does work. Because Google provides a Microsoft Exchange account to act as a connector to their services.
Remember, this is not a standard google account, this is an App account, and as such cannot use the standard google login.  If I tried to login to any of our app service (mail.google.com, calendar.google.com, docs.google.com) from it's google site it fails.  The only way we can access the account is through a special login page that ties into our single sign on (mail.example.com, cal.example.com, docs.example.com), or use the Exchange Connector.
Now if the Microsoft Exchange account connection does not work in webOs to connect to Google, great.  We return our tablets, and discourage pre's. But I really like webOS and would really like to use the touch pad and keep my pre.

  • My MacBook was acting weird so I restarted it and when I login a white screen flashes and goes back to the login page. Help?

My MacBook was acting weird like sometimes I would log on and I wouldn't be able to type my password for a couple seconds, but it usually logged in after that. Then I left my computer open after installing the recent update after that all my applications were not responding. So I shut it down, when I turned it back on about an hour later it went to this loading screen and then to the login like usual. After I tried logging in a white screen flashed and it went back to the login/ password screen like nothing happened. Any ideas on what happened and what I can do to fix it?

    Reinstall OS X;
Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

    HI,
The Apple IDs from @mac.com and @me.com (Older MobileMe and more recent iCloud Names) are also Valid AIM Screen names.
Any other sort of Apple ID is not a Valid AIM Name.
A Google ID that is associated with Google Mail Account (And has "Talk" enable on your Google Settings) can be used in iChat as  Jabber Name/ID.  (Google Run  Jabber server).
Jabber and AIM are different IM Services and it is not easy or straight forward to add Buddies from one Service to the Buddy List of another.  (As A Starting point consider it "impossible")
iChat 4 and 5 have links to the registration page of @Mac.com here with a "Get an iChat Account" button in the add (Account) screen  (You select @mac.com or MobileMe and then press the Button - Choosing AIM and then pressing the button used to lead to the AIM registration page but AIM moved their page).
Apple IDs can be any valid email (or an @mac.com or iCloud registration)
Therefore you could make a Google ID into an Apple ID.
However this will not be a valid AIM Screen Name the way @mac.com or MobileMe/iCloud ones are.
