Connection to outgoing mail server failed only while on WiFi

I can only send emails out when I am not on a wifi connection (ie Wifi turned off). When it is on it say the "connection to outgoing mail server failed" smtp-server.satx.rr.com
Is there a fix for this?

Enter your userID and password for the SMTP server smtp-server.satx.rr.com even though it says "optional".

    You're welcome.
If you're a .Mac member using Mac OS X version 10.2.1 or later, you can synchronize the contact information between the Address Book application on your computer and your .Mac Address Book on the web. You can also synchronize your contact information between multiple Mac OS computers.
If you're using a version of Mac OS X earlier than version 10.4, you must have iSync installed on your computer to synchronize the information. To download iSync, go to
    www.apple.com/support/downloads/isync.html
You can't synchronize the information in your .Mac Address Book if you have an email-only account.
To sync your .Mac Address Book:
    Do one of the following:
If you're using a version of Mac OS X earlier than version 10.4, open iSync and click the .Mac button. Register your .Mac account, turn on .Mac synchronization, and then click the Sync Now button.
(Note: If you are syncing contact information between multiple Mac OS computers, use iSync to register all the computers you want to keep synchronized. For more information, choose Help > iSync Help when iSync is open.)
After the sync has completed, go to www.mac.com and click Address Book on the .Mac tab.
Click Preferences, and then select the "Turn on .Mac Address Book
    Synchronization" checkbox.
    Click Save.
With Address Book synchronization turned on, the contact information in your .Mac Address Book on the web and the Address Book application on your computer will be updated with any changes each time you sync.
You can turn off synchronization between the Address Book application on your computer and your .Mac Address Book on the web by deselecting the "Turn on .Mac Address Book Synchronization" checkbox. While this checkbox is deselected, changes you make to either address book are saved until the next time you select this checkbox and click the Sync Now button on the .Mac pane or in iSync. (For example, if you delete an address from your .Mac Address Book with this checkbox deselected, this address will be deleted from the Address Book on your computer's hard disk the next time you sync with synchronization turned on.)
If your kid has his/her own computer login account, one way to transfer selected contacts from your Address Book to your kid's address book is to create a folder on the Desktop named Contacts or whatever you prefer. Launch Address Book and one at a time, select a contact's name to highlight it and then single click and drag the contact to the created Contacts folder on the Desktop. This will create a vCard copy of the contact.
Using the Finder, go to Home > Shared. Place the Contacts folder on the Desktop in the Shared folder.
When your kid logs in to his/her account, the Contacts folder will be available in his/her Shared folder at Home > Shared.
Launch Address Book and at the menu bar, go to File > Import and select vCards. Navigate to/within the Contacts folder in the Shared folder and the vCards in the Contacts folder will be imported to your kid's Address Book.

  • My outgoing mail server auto defaults to port 465 but auto detect settings box is not checked

    Hi Guys,
    Hope someone can help.
I am having problems sending emails as my provider does not support port 465 as an outgoing mail server port, only 587 and 25.  Despite not having 'auto detect settings' box checked in mac mail my port defaults to 465 whatever I put in there.
I am running 10.10.1 and the latest version of mac mail.
    Hope someone can help.
    Cheers

    Hello,
I figured out my problem. I had somehow changed the "user name" in the outgoing server. (edit server list > Advanced tab > user name). When I corrected the user name, so that it exactly matches the user name for the "Incoming mail server" the outgoing server is back online!
Of course, I still have the problem of having to enter my keyword password repeatedly, but that is in a different thread . . .

You say you have the pse 5 disk?
I guess you do't have a dvd drive on your new windows 8 computer?
Do you have access to another computer with a dvd drive?
Anyway if you can find another computer with a dvd drive you could copy the pse 5 install disc to removable device like a camera card or flash drive.
You can also buy cheap usb dvd drives.

  • Outgoing Mail Server Connection Problems

For the past two weeks, I have been unable to send any emails from my own webmail email address, [email protected] using Mail. I have checked with my ISP to make sure that all of my port settings are correct, I have made sure that firewall is turned off, I have checked using the Network Utility to make sure that I can successfully connect to my mail server (mail.amandafiedler.com). I have deleted my account and started over. Not sure what the problem is. I can receive mail, I just can't send anything! Help! Any other suggestions?

Turn your firewall back on! Firewalls prevent uninvited inbound traffic from entering/attacking your computer. If not at your computer, at least at your DSL/cable modem. You do not need your firewall turned off or any ports open to send mail, or to retrieve mail (because retrieved mail traffic will be "invited" traffic). In fact, the ports you specify in Mail (e.g., 25 for smtp, or maybe 443 (yes, I know that that is default for https web traffic but I think I recall hearing about some authenticated smtp servers using 443) or 587 for SSL-enabled smtp, 143 for imap, 993 for SSL-imap, 110 for pop, 995 for SSL-pop) are the port numbers AT THE SERVER, NOT the ports on your computer. Your computer just randomly chooses unused ports when sending stuff out. The only reason you need any ports on your computer open is if you are hosting services, like running your own website, or your own postfix mail server, or hosting gaming on your computer, so people can initiate requests to your host for services on those ports. So get that firewall back up!
Is your ISP the one that is providing you with the webmail service? Or is it a third-party mail provider? Sometimes, ISP's block any traffic destined for port 25 (outbound mail sent from your computer) unless it is going to smtp servers that they own. This is to try to prevent spammers from using their network to relay spam off of "foreign" smtp servers.
I get the impression that port 587 is sort of becoming the defacto smtp port at the mailserver for authenticated smtp service. AOL, for example, uses port 587 for smtp (send mail) because ISP's that block destination port 25 traffic that is not for that ISP's mailserver, will allow port 587 traffic because it is typically SSL-protected, password-authenticated smtp, that would be more readily identifiable back to you if you were spamming off of it.
So, make sure that when you talk to your ISP, if this mail service is NOT provided by them, find out whether they are blocking the port you are trying to use for smtp, but first, talk to your email provider (assuming they are not your ISP) and verify what smtp port they are using, doublecheck the smtp server host name (sometimes they are different than the hostname of where you connect to retrieve your mail), are they using SSL, are they password authenticated, and do they still allow email through anything other than a webmail interface?
Some mail providers also make you login to retrieve mail before you can send, too, so make sure that it is just not an operational issue of you trying to send mail before retrieving new mail, should they be operating that way.
Just out of curiosity, what happens in Terminal when you type
    telnet {hostNameOfYourOutboundMailServer} {portNumberOfYourOutboundMailServer}?
Do you see something like :
    Connected to {hostNameOfYourOutboundMailServer}.
    Escape character is '^]'.
    220 {hostNameOfYourOutboundMailServer} ESMTP Postfix
(you can type quit or just <control>-C to bail out of this)
(if this solves your problem, or is actually helpful towards arriving at a solution to your problem, please consider marking this reply as "helpful" or "solved," in addition to, if applicable, marking this question as "answered")

  • What do you do when you get a 'connection to mail server failed' message?

What do you do when you get a "connection to mail server failed" message?

if it used to work and you did not change anything then it's most likely the internet connection or the mail provider server which are having the  problem in which case you wait
if not then they changed their settings and you needs to adjust to their new settings
or your carrier changed their settings so they block the required ports

  • Sent message from Mac Mail work email shows my personal gmail account as Mail to: and account summary shows outgoing mail server as smtp.google while incoming shows imap.google

sent email from work through Mac Mail shows to the sender Mail to: (personal gmail). Account summary shows smtp.google on outgoing server and imap.google on incoming

Is there a way to add this automatically?
For a semi-permanent change, the Sending Server is named as "OutGoing Mail Server SMTP" on the Preference pane for each Mail Account.
To change its specifics, move the mouse cursor over it and choose "Edit SMTP Server List" from the drop-down Menu. Then choose the SMTP Server you wish to inspect/change and its information will be shown. If using similar ones for two different email accounts, change the description field, e.g., change "gmail" to "gmail (work)".

  • Hey guys! I went to Mexico over spring break and messed up my email settings. Now I can't send any emails what so ever, but I can get them. It says that an outgoing mail server smpt.live has failed. So...I need help! I haven't sent an email since march!

Check the outgoing mail server setting. Make sure that your username and password are in there.
Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>Your email account>Account>Outgoing mail server - tap the server name next to SMTP and check in the primary server and make sure your username and password are entered and correct - even if it says that the password is optional.

  • How do I fix my iPod touch's problem with hotmail outgoing mail server?

I have just received a new replacement iPod touch 8Gb.
On my old model I used the house wifi network to connect to HOTMAIL in the mail app it would set the account up immediately and work perfectly.
This time, when I tried to set the account up I had a long delay while it verified account details. Then after opting to set up account without using SSL an account was generated with an error message to say I may not be able to send or receive mail.
Incoming mail is OK, outgoing is not working.
The error message told me that I needed to configure my outgoing mail server.
My default outgoing server is set to smtp.live.com and works on port 587.
I have an additional server set to 'on', which is also smtp.live.com working on port 465, which was set up when I tried to alter the port number on the default server. Still no outgoing mail.
    Any suggestions?

Followed your instructions and again, account verification failed using SSL.
I chose to create without SSL and got the following message:
'The SMTP server 'smtp.live.com' is not responding'. I accepted the details,
the email Inbox populated, and everything looks normal.
    Same error is occuring:
'Connection to outgoing server 'smtp.live.com' failed. Additional outgoing mail servers can be configured in settings>mail, contacts and calendars'
    The settings are as follows:
    Incoming mail server
    Host Name: pop3.live.com
    username: is correct
    password: is correct
    Outgoing SMTP:
    Primary server
    host name: smtp.live.com
    username: is correct
password: is correct (has been re-entered just in case)
    Use SSL: OFF
    Authentication: password
    server port 587
I have duplicate SMTP servers listed under 'Other SMTP servers' with exactly the same details as above so it seems as if the iPod is retaining some settings even after I delete account.
Also, I wonder if there is anything I need to get the network administrator to do, because he did ask for the Wi-Fi address of my previous iPod touch could it just be a case of allowing it as a specific device on our network?

  • Connection to outgoing smtp server

I am having problems connecting to smtp servers from my home network, work network and other networks while on the road. I am able to connect with wireless networks without problems, can usually send email through my POP account and occassionally receive via SMTP - so my problem is intermittent.
I receive the normal error message (as an example): "Cannot Send Mail The connection to the outgoing server "smtp.comcast.net" failed". I have full Wi-Fi signal strength, am able to send/receive with a wireless laptop using the same network and same account(s), have tried turning 'off then on' Wi-Fi, 'on then off' Airport and have turned 'off then on' the iPhone. All of this without any luck - Then without making Any changes and while the phone is just sitting on the table, the mail message is sent.
Is there a fix for this problem?

As a test, I just manually created a POP account on my iPhone that I haven't previously used to access this account.
When the account settings were being verified with the provider, I was prompted that the email account does not support using SSL and do I want to set up the account without using SSL.
It seems the iPhone automatically selects Use SSL for the incoming and outgoing mail server when manually creating an account on the iPhone as a default which is verified with the email account provider - which is good and a "smart" feature since it is preferable to access an email account that uses SSL for the incoming and outgoing mail servers with a portable device - laptop or iPhone, etc. especially when connecting to public WiFi networks.
I proceeded to create this account with the iPhone without using SSL. MD5 Challenge-Response for the SMTP server was selected automatically along with 587 being added to the SMTP server - which I did not specify when manually creating the account - since there is no way to do so - but theses are the settings supported and used by this email account provider - all done automatically by the iPhone which is a good thing.
Long story short, if this was automatically selected when creating the account at home - use SSL, apparently this is supported by Comcast but strange that it isn't supported likewise for their SMTP server.
You might try deleting and manually re-create the account to see if this makes any difference.
As long as you use an authenticated SMTP server and 587 for the SMTP server port, you shouldn't have problems sending messages anywhere - via any WiFi network or when connected with EDGE but there can be an exception with WiFi networks. Some may block the use of SMTP servers that are outside of their network regardless if the SMTP server is authenticated.
Receiving should never be a problem so if Use SSL works for the incoming mail server then use it which is a security feature.

  • Outgoing Mail Server(SMTP)

Does anyone know what the host name for the outgoing mail server is suppose to be, right now I have it listed as smtp1.attglobal.net, but it's saying cannot send out mail the connection to the outgoing server smtp1.attglobal.net failed. Can anyone give me the correct outgoing server.
    Jeff

    Try this first:
    http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/mailhelper/
The Outgoing mail server depends on who your email provider is. You can usually get information on the provider's web site for settings, or check the settings on your computer; they will generally be the same. HOWEVER, if your ISP is your email provider they may not allow use of their outgoing mail server unless you are connected to their network. In this case you would be able to send mail connected to your home wireless network, but no from other wireless networks or using EDGE on the phone.
If this is your situation you have several options:
    1. For EDGE use only, use cwmx.com as the outgoing mail server, no user id or password. This will not work when connected via a WiFi network.
    2. Create a gmail account and use their server; this requires user id and password.
    3. Us a paid SMTP site (e.g., godaddy.com)

  • Mail server fails to deliver message. Port 25 times out

I have a .mac account, my ISP is telecable.es.
Can't send any messages, they stay in out box. I receive following error message: "The outgoing mail server mail.telecable.es failed to deliver this message. The connection to server "mail.telecable.es" on port 25 timed out"
I've already tried port 587, it doesn't work either.
    Any help available?
    Thanks in advance,
    Don Guillermo

OK, that helps narrow things down. What you may need to do is enable password for logon. When I am in Canada my ISP is Shaw Cable. However, my email server is in the US. In the US when connected to my cable ISP I have no problem connecting to my email servers. However, Shaw Cable in Canada does not permit remote use of another mail server to send mail. So in order to use the SMTP server of my US hosted account I must use my username and password when using my US SMTP mail server.
Open Mail preferences, click on Accounts icon in the toolbar, then select your account and click on the Account Information tab. In the drop down menu at the bottom select "Edit the list." Select your SMTP server for your .Mac mail account (smtp.mac.com, I think.) Click on the Advanced tab, then select Password in the Authentication drop down menu. Enter you .Mac username and password. See if this works.
If the above doesn't work, then you need to try assigning the SMTP server address of your telecable provider (I don't know if you also need to enable authentication) and select this server as the SMTP server for your .Mac mail account.
