Connection to WiFi No Longer Automatic

I altered my router configuration settings so that the SSID of my wireless network is no longer broadcast. Now, AirPort no longer connects to my WiFi network automatically. This is true in spite of the fact that the network appears in the list of preferred wireless networks, and the "Remember This Network" checkbox is checked. Every time my computer wakes from sleep, I have to manually enter in the SSID and WEP password of my wireless network in order to connect to it. Is there any way to correct this problem?

Jamil,
I am having the exact same problem. I turned off broadcast of the SSID for my wireless router and now I have to manually set up every time I start up the MacBook Pro. I am also using Mac OS 10.5.8.
I also have an iPad and it remembers my network just fine and always connects automatically! It is very strange.
I hope someone here has a great and easy solution.
Thanks
Randy

  • My macbook air does not automatcially connect to wifi any longer when i turn on from sleep, how can i make it connect automatically again

My macbook air will no longer connect to my wifi automatically, I have changed the preferences to automatically selecr known networks but everytime i open the macbook air or after i restart the macbook, i will need to manually l select the wifi. How do I re-config to automatically connect to my wifi. Thanks

Test after taking each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Back up all data before making any changes.
    1. Make sure the network is on the preferred list by following these instructions. It's important to read the article carefully, as it's the starting point for any further efforts to solve the problem. If you skip any of the steps, the problem may not be solved. Make sure the box marked
Remember networks this computer has joined
    is checked.
    2. Follow the instructions in this support article under the heading
Symptom: After restarting or waking from sleep, my computer might not connect to the Internet
    3. Reset the PRAM.
    4. Make a note of all your settings for Wi-Fi in the Network preference pane, then delete the connection from the connection list and recreate it with the same settings. You do this by clicking the plus-sign icon below the connection list, and selecting Wi-Fi as the interface in the sheet that opens. Select Join other network from the Network Name menu, then select your network. Enter the password when prompted and save it in the keychain.
    5. From the Location menu at the top of the Network preference pane, select Edit Locations. A sheet will drop down. Click the plus-sign button to create a new location. Give it any name you want. In the new location, set up the Wi-Fi service with the same settings you used before. Click Apply and test.
    6. Launch the Keychain Access application. Search for and delete all AirPort network password items that refer to the network. Make a note of the password first.
    7. Repair permissions on the startup volume.
    8. Turn off Bluetooth and test.
    9. Reset the System Management Controller.
    10. This step shouldn't be necessary, but has been advised by Apple Support in some cases, apparently as a workaround for a bug. Open the Energy Saver pane in System Preferences. If applicable, click the padlock icon in the lower left corner to unlock the settings. Enter your administrator login password when prompted.
Select the Power Adapter tab and uncheck the boxes marked
    Wake for Wi-Fi network access
    and
    Enable Power Nap...
if present. Then, if the computer is a MacBook, select the Battery tab and uncheck
    Enable Power Nap...
    11. Reinstall OS X.

  • Wifi no longer automatically connecting

Updated 4S to iOS 6. Now the device no longer connects to known networks automatically. Have to go in and manually log in via settings. Anyone else finding this?

I am having the same problem.  Especially when the signal is not full bars.  At home I don't have a problem connecting, but at work where I sit the signal is kind of weak, not unusable, just not max signal.  My phone used to, on iOS 5.1.1 connect right away and stay connected until I turned Wifi off to check my email.  Company blocks web based email so I have to use celluar to get to it.
But now the signal comes and goes all the time and I have to often times go in and forget the network and reconnect it, which means I also have to enter the proxy settings.
    Real pain.

  • Galaxy Note 2 Won't connect to WiFi or 4G Automatically

I don't know if it's a problem with my phone or Verizon, but recently when I turn my screen on and try to do anything online it says it's not connected. I have to go to the WiFi settings and turn it on or off. It's not just my WiFi, because if I'm using 4G it does the same thing. Normally this happens if the phone's screen has been turned off for about 5 minutes. I do have the Battery Saver app on my phone, but even when I disable it, it still happens. Plus I've had the app for as long as I've had my phone (6 months) and it has never given me any troubles. I started deleting any apps I have downloaded in the past 2 weeks and nothing has changed.
    Please help!

  • Wifi no longer connecting after startup

wifi no longer connecting after startup... so I have to connect manually... started after 10.7.3
    any ideas

Which computer are you experiencing this on?
There are several threads dealing with (mostly) iMacs + bluetooth keyboards/mice and issues with WiFi no longer automatically connecting. There seems to be some issue that 10.7.3 introduces with these series of macs.
No Apple provided solutions yet, but several workarounds: 1) attach a network cable direclty from modem/router to mac; 2) use the power button instead of mouse/keyboard to wake up mouse; 3) use USB keyboard/mouse (not personally confirmed); use airport extreme/express as a bridge.
Right now it's a waiting game until Apple provides another update. I do recommend going to Apple feeback: (http://www.apple.com/feedback/) and at least voicing your opinion. Calling AppleSupport will do the same, but they'll make you go through the same (likely useless) steps everyone else has done.
    Good luck!

  • New Ipad Connecting to WiFi but NOT the internet

I have the new iPad (3) and had it set up fine to connect through WiFi.  Recently I activated the Verizon LTE account and used it while on a trip.  Since then, my iPad will not connect to Wifi any longer.   I have tried the following:
-Forgotten the network and tried to log in again fresh...Will connect to my airport extreme but will not connect to internet (Airport utility shows green lights everywhere except for internet, I show a full signal but the wheel just keeps spinning)
-Reset the network settings, same effect
-Reset the entire iPad, same effect
now I am to the point where I have to setup the iPad again via iTunes because it will not connect to the internet via WiFi
I have reset all modems and routers to factory settings and it still doesn't help.
Throughout all of this I am still able to connect to the internet via my airport extreme AND internet using two iphones, apple TV, my mac, and my pc.
Hoping for a solution on here, otherwise it looks like a day at the "genius" bar.

My iPhone will no longer picks-up the wifi at home(comcast). My mom used to have comcast and I used to connect there as well, but she changed to verison and I connect there, but no longer can get the comcast wi-fi at home.  The wi-fi settings are ok there, but blank at home now.  The phone's network settings are fine because I can join other wifi networks.  I've done a reset with no results.  Is there a manual way for me to restore the comcast wifi from the router?

First thanks for the reply and second sorry about the confusion.  I was unable to get the full message out, but here's the problem:
Like I had mentioned, for a long time both me and my Mom had comcast and as soon as I came into both dwellings the phone would automatically jump onto either wifi network.  Then a while ago she verison and used the same Belkin router.  So there was no problem and my phone jumped on her system as usual, but at some point something happened and when I got home I noticed that the phone asked to be put on my system.  I would input the password, but it would say "unable to connect" to the network.  I did the standard things like check the network settings on the phone itself and they were fine.  Then I did a reset (actually twice) with the same result.  It seems like the phone ability to pick-up wi-fi is ok because when I go to my University I can log-in with no problem.  The only thing I noticed is when I look at the settings (on the iPhone) for the router at home the whole thing is blank.  My question is: Is there a manual way to get the phone to pick-up my router?  I need to have it on my network at home because I use DocumentsToGo a lot.  Thanks again for your response again and I hope things are clear now.  Have a great day.

  • My iphone 4s and ipad 2 both with 7.0.4 update will no longer connect to wifi but non-mac lap top has no issues

my iphone 4s and ipad2 both with 7.0.4 update will no longer connect to wifi.
About three days ago the ability to connect came and went and the connection never lasted more than 10-15 minutes; it has not been able to connect since last night. I do not think it's my wifi router as non-mac lap top has no issues. I have seem many similar questions posted.

Reboot your router by removing all power from it for about 15 seconds. Also, if your router still has its default SSID (such as LINKSYS, DLINK, NETGEAR, etc) change the SSID to something unique. Note that all other devices on your network will have to be reconnected if you change the name, but if the name is still the default that is most likely your problem.
If the SSID is not the default then the reboot should fix it.

  • IPod Touch 4th Gen No Longer Connects to WiFi

Tonight I've been watching videos via the new Youtube app (from the appstore, since the one that comes with iPod is no longer available). I was watching a Youtube video when the battery on my iPod touch ran out. I connected the charger, the iPod turned on, and it suddenly won't connect to my WiFi anymore. I have other devices that connect to the WiFi with no issues. What happens is I go to my WiFi settings, and select my router as the access point, and a rotating loading icon appears next to my access point's name, 'belkin54g'. But the loading icon never goes away, and as a result doesn't connect to WiFi. I recently upgraded to iOS 6 if that helps. This WiFi connection has always worked fine on this iPod touch, so I have no idea as to why it decided to crap out on me.

Does the iOS device connect to other networks?
Does the iOS device see the network?
    Any error messages?
    Do other devices now connect?
Did the iOS device connect before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on your router
.- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem and it does not connect to any networks make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

No, it is not a known issue. It is a known non-issue. Try resetting your IMAP login ID and password. Both the incoming and outgoing. If that fails delete the account reboot the phone, and add it back.

  • Email no longer automatically connects

Probably when I upgraded to 3.0, my original iPhone (and my wife's) stopped automatically connecting to email, both POP and IMAP. I have to launch the email application on my phone before it will connect and show new messages in the queue. I'm assuming that this is the price of running 3.1 on my tired old phone. Anybody else having this problem? Any suggestions?

In the signature preferences make sure that, for each account, you have selected a signature at the "choose signature" popup.
