Connection to wireless connection with a password

For wireless internet at my appt I use D-link. If the password is disabled I can access the internet and it works fine. But if I put a password on my internet so others don't use it the computer will let me put in the password but everytime I do that it says that I can't connect to the network. How will I get it to work for my computer?
Thanks!!!

I would strongly recommend using WPA instead, as WEP is no longer considered secure. But if you must use WEP, then check out this Apple article to see if it will help: AirPort: Joining an encrypted wireless network

My guess is that the security settings on your router and iPod do not match.
For a test, change your router so there is no security.  See if you can connect and get to the Internet. If that works, set up the router with security and use the same settings for the iPod.

  • Connecting with a Password!

I am housesitting for a friend who gave me his password for Airport Express, but when I connect to his wireless, I am asked to enter a WEP key. He does not have this key, and says I have to create my own based on the password.
Does anyone know how to connect to airport express with a password instead of a WEP? I am using a PC to try to connect.

One of the problems with WEP is that the actual standard relies on a 10 character HEX key for 40bit WEP and a 26 character HEX key for 128bit WEP.
In order to make things easier for people, vendors use certain algorithms to convert simple alphanumeric passwords (or passphrases) into HEX keys, thus enabling people to use simple memorable WEP password rather than lengthy HEX keys.
The problem is that different vendors use different algorithms to generate the HEX key and therefore a ASCII password on an AEBS will be hashed differently on a Netgear client and vice versa.
One thing is a 13 character 128 bit WEP password will be hashed by all vendors in the same way (if you use 40bit WEP then a 5 character password is required).
Though sometimes not even that works and the HEX key must be used regardless.

  • IMac G4 suddenly can't connect with Airport -- password not recognized

I have an iMac G4 running OS X 10.4.11 with an airport card installed that until recently connected with an Airport Extreme base station in the next room. Recently, the connection fell out, and when I try to reconnect with the network, it says it won't recognize my password. (We use WPA2 personal security.) This failure occurs even though my iPad can hook up, as can my wife's G5 and her iPad. There was a problem with an Extreme router, but my wife reset that, and when she did she used the same password that we've always used. So, in essence, my G4 is the only piece of equipment that can't talk on the network.
An Apple helpline person said he suspects my computer is just getting old; it's around 7 years old now. I'd hate to think that's the case. Could this be a hardware and not a software problem? Any suggestions of what to do?

I suspect that that "Apple helpline person" is just getting lazy...
It might help to reset the connection settings on your Mac using these steps one at a time until the problem is resolved, recognizing that, depending on your problem, not all of these steps will make sense.  They're also tailored to OS X 10.5 and 10.6, but they should work with OS X 10.4.
    1) Use the AirPort menu bar item to turn AirPort off, then on again.
    2) Try to select your Wi-Fi network from the AirPort menu.
    3) In the Network panel of System Preferences delete the AirPort item from the left column, then add it back.
    4) In the same panel as (3), define a new location and see if you can make that work.
    5) In the same panel, select the AirPort connection item, click the "Advanced" button, select the "TCP/IP" tab, then click "Renew DHCP Lease".
    6) In the folder /Library/Preferences ( _not_ <yourhomefolder>/Library/Preferences), move the folder SystemConfiguration onto the Desktop, then restart your computer. See if you can now make your AirPort connection work.
These steps may not help, but they'll only take a couple of minutes to try.  Before you try these, if you have any special network settings on your Mac for things like DSL credentials, note all your network settings, because the latter steps will destroy them.  If you got all the way to the last step, if things don't work any worse than before, you can trash the saved SystemConfiguration folder.

  • I live in an apartment with supplied internet.  I have wireless network with no password.  I have a wall outlet that I can plug into.  When I plug in my TC I get a double NAT error.  I try bridge mode, but I can't get the internet to work.

Can I get an explanation of what bridge mode is?
Can I get suggestions on what I should do to use the TC as a wireless device to spread the same wireless device my apartment is broadcasting?
Can I get a suggestion on how to use the TC as a different wireless device with it's own password without access to the cable modem.  I only have access to a wall port.
I own many apple devices, iMac mid-2011, Macbook Air 2013, 2 ipads, and 2 iphones for the family, and Apple TV.
I want all my devices to be on a password related internet but the double nat on my TC makes weird things happen and slow.  I try bridge mode but the internet doesn't work.
I hope I have described this situation clearly enough.
    Thanks

I want all my devices to be on a password related internet but the double nat on my TC makes weird things happen and slow.  I try bridge mode but the internet doesn't work.
You building supplied internet is a cheap service that is without proper routable addresses..
Therefore to use more than one IP you MUST have double NAT.. sorry there is no choice..
Slow that is because you are sharing internet with every other person in the building.. get your own broadband service.
Bridge will not work.. it cannot work because the building only has private IP addressing. And they only give you a single address.
You can put a password on the wireless.. go to the airport utility and put in a password.
Other than that I don't understand what password you expect.
Can I get an explanation of what bridge mode is?
No NAT.. means the TC becomes a dumb Wireless AP and switch.. works fine with a cable modem router.. or any broadband router but useless with your building system.
Can I get suggestions on what I should do to use the TC as a wireless device to spread the same wireless device my apartment is broadcasting?
Double NAT, and set your own wireless names. There is no alternative.. sorry.

  • Saving wireless connection with hex password as new location

My iBook doesn't remember the settings of my wireless connection, so I must enter them again every time I wake up from sleep or turn it on. I do it by clicking on the Airport icon in the menu bar, choosing "Other connection" and entering the network name and hex password.
I want my iBook to remember the connection settings, if possible in a new location. But when I create a new location, it doesn't accept my password (it seems to be too long).
My network is not broadcasted, so I need to enter the network name manually too.
    How can I do this?
    Thank you!

  • "Incompatible Security" when trying to connect with WEP password

I just bought my MacBook and so far AirPort has been working with all wireless connections I've used. I recently moved into a new apartment with wireless internet. The gals here are using a Motorola router connected to a Windows XP desktop.
Why is it that everytime I connect using the correct WEP password/configuration, it says "Incompatible Security"? I've tried everything with network preferences and the like. Why is it that the Macbook won't connect to this wireless router but will connect to others...?

  • Doubts regarding db connection with encrypted password usage in sandbox

    Hi All,
We have setup the db connection using configuration file. The configuration file contains db connection information including the encrypted password.
    Below are my doubts:
    1. If we are going to import the ETL project in zip file directly into the sandbox can we run the graphs directly or we need to check how the password which is encrypted in configuration file will be decoded.
    2. Can we directly modify the configuration file for db connection like db connection, user name and password. Suppose I want the graphs to run in some other database which is not specified in configuartion fiel .Can I directly update that?
3.Is it possible to change the encrypted password in the configuration file in the sandbox. Is it that we need to create the project in Integrator Designer, change the password using the Integrator Designer, and then copy the encrypted password into the configuration file in sandbox, or the Endeca provides a functionality to allow user to directly change the password in the sandbox on the Integrator server.
Can someone please let me know their comments on above.
    Thanks in Advance.

    Hello,
Seems your oracle service is not runnug but check and verify your alert.log file and see if database is up and running or not. Also what's output of following command
    lsnrctl status
    Also try this
    sqlplus '/as sysdba'
    or
    sqlplsu "/as sysdba"
Also try this link to setup password using orapwd utility for system.

  • Password Protected Wireless Network with Unknown Password

I have a Linksys WRTP54G wireless router for internet access with my laptop pc. It was installed by a local computer tech (who is no longer accessible) several years ago with my Gateway desktop computer which has Windows 98 for an operating system. I just purchased a Lenovo laptop which runs Windows Vista Home Premium. When I "power up" the Lenovo, I receive a message "Internet Explorer Cannot Display the Web Page". I then use Windows Network Diagnostics, and View Available Wireless Networks. Two networks are presented. The first is linksys - unsecured network. The second is the last name of the computer tech - security enabled network. I want to use the Security Enabled Network but when I choose it I am prompted for a password that I do not have. Can anyone tell me how to overcome this obstacle and either eliminate the need for a password or reset it with one that I create? I don't have great technical skills but follow instructions well.

You can just change the wireless settings by accessing the router's set-up page.. Try to check what is the the ip of your router by going to the desktop w/c is wired to the router and online.
    -Go to RUN
    -Typed in -winipcfg-
-Get the default gateway (it starts w/ 192.168.15.1)
-Open up IE or Firefox, typed in 192.168.15.1 on the address bar
-If it ask for the UN and PW, just typed -admin- (lower case) on the UN and PW
-If you see the Linksys set-up page that has blue and black color your on the right page BUT after you typed in -admin- and it still ask for the UN and PW and the last tech didnt leave you a UN and PW for the router then you need to reset the router and reconfigure everything...
-BUT if your on the Linksys set-up page, click on WIRELESS tab
-Look below and look for the WIRELESS NETWORK NAME SSID
-If you want to change it then go ahead and after changing it just click CONTINUE or you will go back to the same page
-If you want to check the wireless password or unsecure it:
-Click on WIRELESS SECURITY under the wireless tab
-You can get there your wireless password
-If you want to disable the wireless security then just
-Click on the drop down arrow on the SECURITY MODE and click on DISABLE
    Hope this helps....... n_n
By the way, the -- are not included..

  • Secure wireless router with lost password

I'm trying to secure our wireless router and not having any success. When I go to the 192.168.1.1 site and type in admin, the screen just pops up again. If I continue, after three tries I get a 404 screen. I'm guessing my husband added a password at some time, but he has no record of it and I've tried all of our passwords that I can think of and none of them work. Is there a way to get past this screen or recover the password somehow? Our network still shows up as unlocked and I'd like to get access to the account and get it locked. Thanks.

    Welcome to Cisco Home Community,
What is the model number of your Linksys router? In this case, you may need to perform a reset on the router and you will lose all settings saved in it. You'll start from scratch of setting it up again for the internet both wired and wireless to work. Here are the links below that you may help you to get this issue resolve.

  • Changed to secure - can connect with mac but not pc running vista

I changed my wrt54gs from unsecured to secure by changing the wireless > wireless security > to security mode: WPA personal, the wpa algorithms is set to TKIP, i set up a password in the shared key area and the group key is set to 3600.  I saved the changes and now i can connect with the password with a macbook pro as well as with a ipod touch but i cant connect with a laptop running windows vista.  I would get an error saying unable to connect, funny thing is though  i am connect (and it is the correct router, not a neighbors) but it says connected with limited access. I tried to run diagnostics and repair but to no avail.  Any thoughts on what to door is limited access ok?
    thanks,
    Dave

    Try this :
Click Start >> Control Panel >> Network and Sharing Center >> Manage Wireless Networks, here remove all the networks present and close the Window...
Click on Connect to a Network and try to re-connect to your Network, it should ask for your Network Key/Password, enter the correct password/network key and click Connect...
It should connect...Once you are connected you should restart the computer, it should connect to Internet...

  • Using a dongle and connecting with an Xbox 360...

    Hi guys,
Quick question, i've moved into my new uni place but it hasn't got any internet. So im looking at getting a dongle but I still want to hook up my xbox to xbox live. Is there a way of feeding the internet through my imac (which is using the dongle) to the xbox. If its any help i do have the extra wireless box for the xbox and also an either-net cable.
    Thanks!

You X-Box can connect to the internet thru the Mac using either wifi or ethernet, whichever works best for you.
If you want Ethernet, connect a cable between them
If you want wifi, you need to first create a network.
    System prefs -> Network.
Select Airport then click on Network name: and select *Create network...*.
Give it a name, tick require password.
Now go System prefs -> Sharing.
    Click on *Internet Sharing*.
Set *Share your connection from:* and select the dongle (likely showing up as USB).
If you connect them using Ethernet, set *To computers using:* and select Ethernet.
If you connect them using wifi, set *To computers using:* and select Wifi.
You will need to enable wifi on the X-Box and connect with the password you set above.

  • Netgear router won't let me connect with a network my new roomates use

I have had this problem before connecting to wireless networks, although not all of them. I just moved in with a friend who gave me the network name and password. Although my powerbook G4 sees her network, it shows an error message when i try to connect with the password. She set up the Netgear (WGT624 v3) router using her DELL and everyone else in the house (using PC's) don't have this problem. I'm wondering if we need to go through what she has set up on her computer, because I must have tried everything on mine! Does anyone know how to solve this problem?

    Hi tracie,
thats OK I know how hard wi-fi is to setup, I've spent many hours in the past trying to figure out how to set mine up! Its usually the simplest of things.
Your MAC address or Airport ID (as Apple call it) is a string of a series of 6 two digit numbers/letters separated by a colon e.g. 00:2b:35:18:af:32
This identifies your Airport card on a network & your address can be viewed in System Pref.s/Network, then from the drop down "Show" menu choose "Airport" & then click the Airport tab that appears in the row of buttons & you should see your Airport card's MAC address (Airport ID). But if you cant find that option don't worry about it.
While your in Network Sys Pref click show port config. & drag the Airport entry to the top of the list.
If you do try WEP again, go to router's
    Wireless Settings > Wireless network
& insure the Mode is set to "g and b" just incase.
Then > Security Options & click WEP.
Then in > Security Encryption > Authentication type
    set to Shared key
    Also > Encryption Strength
    set 128bit
After that go down to > Security Encryption (WEP) Key
in Passphrase enter your new password & click the Generate button on the right - this will bring up your HEX key in the checked "Key" box below.
write this new generated key down & click Apply & log out.
Now on your PB open the Airport network entry window, change top box from "WEP Password" to "WEP 40/128-bit HEX"
Then enter the generated key you wrote down into the box below, & click ok/join.
Keep 'em crossed & you "should" join.
