Connections from PCI-8532 to DeviceNet Micro-style connectors?

Hello,
I am looking to connect a PCI-8532-equipped PC to some already existing processing equipment running on DeviceNet. Are there any easy options (i.e., patch cables available) to convert the 9-pin D-sub from the PCI-8532 to DNet micro-style, or do I have to crimp my own connectors? I have come up empty so far...
Thanks,
Shane.

Shane,
I'm not too sure where you can find DeviceNet to DB9, as NI does not produce those types of cables. There are various DeviceNet to serial modules that require wiring. I suggest looking at Rockwell Automation products as they carry a lot of different cables for DeviceNet and you may find a DeviceNet to DB9 cable there.

• Open DeviceNet interface error when TestStand call VIs of NI PCI-8532

Hello,
We use NI PCI-8532 was used as DeviceNet master to do functionality test with a slave (AC Drive).
But when open DeviceNet interface, it happen the error.
We can't find the solution and hope to find help from you.
The basic sequence in TestStand is:
1). Call "Open DeviceNet Interface.vi" to open interface and creat interface object.
Interface(master) setting: interface name=dnet0, MAC ID=0, baudrate=125000bps
2). Call "Open DeviceNet IO.vi" to creat DeviceNet IO object.
Device(slave) setting: MAC ID=63
3). Call "Operate DeviceNet Interface.vi" and operation code=start
4). Call "Wait For State.vi"
5). Call "Read DeviceNet IO.vi" to read data from IO object
6). Call "Close Object.vi" to close IO object handle
7). Call "Close Object.vi" to close interface object handle
Remark, these DeviceNet VIs locates at "C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 2012\vi.lib\DeviceNet\VIAPI".
First time to run sequece in TestStand, it can pass to run step 1) to open DeviceNet interface.
But once there is some error with these steps, and it will happen "Open DeviceNet Interface" error (error code=0xBFF62006) when run these steps again.
Then even use LabVIEW DeviceNet example to test, and it happen the same error except restart computer.
The DeviceNet example locates at "C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 2012\examples\NI-Industrial Communications for DeviceNet\Basic Examples\PXI & PCI\MixedCommunication.vi".
Some information more:

• How to share internet connection from notebook to mobile phone with micro usb cord in Debian based OS? (reverse tethering)

I want to share internet connection from notebook to my mobile phone (Keon) with micro usb cord (because I don't have wifi). I found in Firefox OS (version: Boot2Gecko 1.1.1.0-prerelease) Settings only the possibility to share internet from mobile phone to PC. I use a Debian based OS: Knoppix. I tried to accomplish this with Networking Manager and I did a new wired connection via my phone with "Shared to other computers" IPv4 Settings and with FE:...:02 (usb0) MAC address. But on my phone there is not internet although the connecton between my notebook and phone is estableshed.

Hi Pimpo,
Thank you for posting your question. I was trying to reproduce your the Shared network, and I would love to know what kind of network you used to connect. This is not possible as of yet and I will file a bug being able to do this, but to make sure I have the right steps on the bug can you confirm the set up of the shared network please?
Also this is currently not possible because the software does not know how to send network traffic over usb, assuming you do not have the ability to turn the computer into a wifi hot spot, which I would recommend instead...

• Deploying application using pci-8532

I am trying try deploy an application that uses a cDAQ-9178 and a PCI-8532 Devicenet (version 2.0.2). The built application work fine on the developement system, but on the deployed system it hangs for ~45 seconds before giving an error (see attachment). What am I missing?
I also moved the project to another development system and had to setup the DAQmx names (no problem with MAX) but in the project manager I had to set up the global variable for the bits on the DeviceNet board that I use and setup the auto deployment on startup - how does that happen on the deployed application when there is no project manager?

I was mistaken when I moved the project the the setup did move ok. I think at the time I created a new project.
My latest problem now. The target machine is a windows 7 machine which the runtime did not work on. We installed the development package on the target machine and the project runs as expected - good. But the built exe that was built on that machine from the project that runs on that machine does not run as an exe. Also the exe that was built before and runs on the xp development machine also does not run on the windows 7 machine with a different error code now. Attached is the new error from the windows 7 target machine once the development package was installed,

• Ni-PCI 8532 card Pinout Explanation

Hi,
I am new to using the NI-PCI 8532 card. I am trying to attach a solenoid valve manifold to this card. On the PCI 8532 card pinout, pin 2 is called "V- (CAN reference ground)". I am confused as to why this pin is called V- but the description is that it is the reference ground. Is there a voltage associated with this pin? What does this pin do?
The solenoid manifold pinout is as follows
1. Shield
2. V+ (power supply)
3. V- (power supply)
4. CAN_H
5. CAN_L
Do I connect the V- of the solenoid manifold to the V- (Pin2) on the PCI card? (The pinout for the card is attached).
Thank you

Hi Jm,
That pin is just where it connects to the bus power supply. The can bus requires a power supply of 10-30V applied to those two pins.
I would have to set it up quickly to check, but I believe the PXI devicenet doesn't need external power and can power the bus itself. if it does you don't have to worry about those pins.
On devices that don't, you just have to make sure the pins are wired to the power on the bus before the devices will work.
There should be additional information in the Devicenet, CAN and CANopen manuals/help.

• New server and/or CA certificate for connection from custom authentication

We are running Access Manager version 72005Q4 in the Sun ONE Web Server 6.1SP5 B06/23/2005 container with java build 1.5.0_07-b03. I run a custom authentication module which checks sessions against our university single sign on system which is CAS (from Yale/Jasig). The checks are essentially https calls. All this has been working well for us for the last couple of years.
I would like to migrate the certificate used on the university CAS system from a Verisign certificate to a wildcard certificate issued by the IPS CA in spain -- these are in most browsers but are not in the standard batch of cacerts CA's -- and are free for .edu domains.
My other java based authentication plugins (Blackboard, custom apps etc) have worked fine once I import the certificate into the cacerts for the java container, but I'm missing something (obvious probably) about importing this certificate so that my amserver custom authentication module can connect to the CAS server once the CAS server is using the new certificate.
Could anyone provide guidance on where I need to import this server certificate (or preferably the IPS CA) in order to allow the custom authentication module to work properly? I assume this same problem has been solved by people wishing to connect from the amserver to services with self signed certificates. For some reason I'm finding the debugging unexpectedly difficult, I'll outline some of those details below.
Relevant things I've tried so far:
Import both the server cert and the IPS CA into the cacerts of the java container identified in the web server server.xml /usr/jdk/entsys-j2se.
Import the IPS CA into the web server cert8 style db via the web admin server.
The debugging has surprised me a bit, as I'm not getting an error that is explicitly SSL related error. It almost seems like the URLConnection object ends up using a HttpURLConnection rather than an HttpsURLConnection and never gives me a cert error, rather a connection refused since there is no non SSL service running on CAS. The same code pointed to the server running the verisign cert works as expected.

URL u = new URL(url);
if (!u.getProtocol().equals("https"))
throw new IOException("only 'https' URLs are valid for this method");
URLConnection uc = u.openConnection();
uc.setRequestProperty("Connection", "close");
r = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(uc.getInputStream()));
String line;
StringBuffer buf = new StringBuffer();
while ((line = r.readLine()) != null)
buf.append(line + "\n");
return buf.toString();
} finally { ...
The fact that this same code in other authentication modules running outside the amserver (in other web containers as well, tomcat and resin for example) running java 1.5 works fine with the new CA, as well as with self signed certs that I've imported into the appropriate cacerts file leads me to believe that I'm either importing the certificate into the wrong store, or that there is some additional step needed for the amserver in the Sun Web container.
Thank you very much for any insights and help,
Ethan

I thought since this has had a fair number of views I would give an update.
I have been able to confirm that the custom authentication module is using the cert8 db defined in the AMConfig property com.iplanet.am.admin.cli.certdb.dir as documented. I do seem to have a problem using the certificate to make outgoing connections, even though the certificate verifies correctly for use as a server certificate. This is likely a question for a different forum, but just to show what I'm looking at:
root@jbc1 providers#/usr/sfw/bin/certutil -V -n "FSU Wildcard Certificate" -d /opt/SUNWwbsvr/alias -P https-jbc1.ucs.fsu.edu-jbc1- -u V
certutil: certificate is valid
root@jbc1 providers#/usr/sfw/bin/certutil -V -n "FSU Wildcard Certificate" -d /opt/SUNWwbsvr/alias -P https-jbc1.ucs.fsu.edu-jbc1- -u C
certutil: certificate is invalid: Certificate type not approved for application.
root@jbc1 providers#/usr/sfw/bin/certutil -M -n "FSU Wildcard Certificate" -d /opt/SUNWwbsvr/alias -P https-jbc1.ucs.fsu.edu-jbc1- -t uP,uP,uP
root@jbc1 providers#/usr/sfw/bin/certutil -V -l -n "FSU Wildcard Certificate" -d /opt/SUNWwbsvr/alias -P https-jbc1.ucs.fsu.edu-jbc1- -u C
FSU Wildcard Certificate : Certificate type not approved for application.
So it could be that I don't understand how to use the certutiil to get the permissions I want, or it could be that using the same certificate for both server and client functions is not supported -- though you can see why this would be a common case with wildcard certificates.
BTW for those interested, it did seem to be the case that when the certificate failure occurred that the attempt was then made by the URLConnection to bind to port 80 in cleartext even though the URL was clearly https. I'm sure this was just an attempt to help out misformed URL, but it seemed that the URLConnection implementation in the amserver would swapped traffic over cleartext if that port had been open on the server I was making the https connection to; that seems dangerous to me, I would not have wanted it to quietly work that way exposing sensitive information to the network.
This was why I was getting back a connection refused instead of a certificate exception. The URLConnection implementation used by the amserver is defined by java.protocol.handler.pkgs=com.iplanet.services.comm argument passwd to the JVM, and I imagine this is done because the amserver pre-dates the inclusion of the sun.net.www.protocol handlers, but I don't know, there maybe reasons why the amserver wants it own handler. I only noticed that this is what was going on when I as casting the httpsURLConnection objects to other types trying to diagnose the certificate problem. I would be interested in hearing if anyone knows if there is a reason not to use sun.net.www.protocol with the amserver.
After switching to the sun.net.www.protocol handler I was able to get my certificate errors rather than the "Connection Refused" which is what lead me to the above questions about certutil.

</p>
<p class="horizontalSpace">Oracle Application Server Service Registry is the most complete and proven business services registry providing a foundation for the governance and lifecycle management of your business services. The Registry provides you with what you need to obtain enterprise-wide insight, control and economic leverage of your organization's business services assets. Much more than just a UDDI registry, the Registry captures and makes discoverable business service descriptions into a centrally managed, reliable and searchablelocation, becoming the system of record for your business services<br/>
Oracle Application Server Service Registry provides two user interfaces.

HHola I update my Apple TV and I am frozen screen with the photo of Apple TV and iTunes symbol and a cable connected from one to another device, it happens and how to fix it Apple TV

Welcome to the Apple Community.
If your problem persists get yourself a micro USB cable (sold separately), you can restore your Apple TV from iTunes:
Remove ALL cables from Apple TV. (if you don't you will not see Apple TV in the iTunes Source list)
Connect the micro USB cable to the Apple TV and to your computer.
Reconnect the power cable (only for Apple TV 3)
Open iTunes.
Select your Apple TV in the Devices list, and then click Restore.
(You may already have a micro USB cable if you have a camera or other digital device)

• How to get internet connection from Airport Express to a PC?

I recently bought an Airport Express to get internet connection from my new MAC COMPUTER TO ANOTHER PC which is located in another room. For unknown reason, I could not get the other PC to work. Any idea how to fix it so that I can get internet connection for my PC? Many thanks for your expert assistance.

Currently, the Airport Express (not the Airport Express Extreme router) is acting as a base station via Ethernet to a cable modem.
I guess that it would be correct to assume that your new Mac can connect wirelessly to the AirPort Express base station, and access the Internet that way.
I am not sure if my 41/2 year old HP(Hewlect Packard) PC - (with AMD Athlon 64 3400 processor) which I am unable to get internet connection now is Wi-Fi capable.
You said "Prior to using the new Airport Express,I was using the Linksys wireless G router and have a wireless adapter sitting on top of my PC.". The wireless adapter would be Wi-Fi certified (they normally are). Is it a USB adapter? Please post back with the exact model.
Question: do I still need to use the adapter or not? Or the new Airport Express is enough to send internet signal to the PC?
A Wi-Fi adapter would act as a wireless network card for a PC, and should communicate wirelessly with an AirPort Express base station without a problem (providing that the chosen security/encryption is supported on both sides). Since the wireless adapter apparently was OK (with the Linksys router), you should be able to continue using it. Any other (built-in) wireless capability ought to be externally visible at the PC as a PCI card with an antenna.
Does the (Windows?) PC operating system detect any wireless networks? Is your AirPort Express on this list (even if you cannot connect or access the Internet)?

• What are the pin connections from 7764 to stepper motor drive

what are the pin connections from UMI 7764 to stepper motor drive? I use PCI 7340 controller. Third party driver is not branded, but assembled. It has 3 inputs, one for (A,A/) one for (b,b/) one for enable, apart from ground pin.

Dear enigmata,
Here is a link to the UMI Manual that describes the signal connections:
http://www.ni.com/pdf/manuals/321941b.pdf
What you really need is the documentation for the input of the "translator" mentioned on the left side of the last diagram you posted. It is still not possible to tell which of you drive inputs correspond to step and direction (or CW, CCW) because in the circuit that you posted, these signals have already been converted by other circuitry in the drive to the A, A/, B, B/ output signals for the stepper motor.
I agree with Jochen: Without the documentation you will need to test it out as he described in his last post.

• Connections from other applications.

Hello,
Is there any parameter we can set to control the number of connections from an external application. I am using J2EE application server connection pool to connect to Oracle from Java. In Applciation server setting we can configure the number of connections in a pool.
Is there some parameter some thing like this in the Oracle database to control the number incoming connections?
Thanx in Adv,

Hi RavensFan,
I'm using a 21CFRPart11 compliant SQL-based user permission rights database access tool (DataTrak), which is a legacy ActiveX control from this project's previous releases. Unfortunately the company that make it are long gone, but I'm stuck with it - no choice, no support.
I've been tracking the problem down, and although the problem only occurs when I call up the ActiveX component then exit, it also seems that the problem goes away if I remove my .NET marquee-style progress bar from a seperate subvi. Confusing, but the system is stable with one or the other, but exits with a crash when both are included the executable!
Given the ActiveX control is a requirement, and my marquee progress bar is a niceity, it looks like the progress bar will have to go...

• AXI slave connection of PCIe AXI bridge IP

Hi:
I'm creating a system with IPI which have Microblaze, DDR3 and PCIe interface.
When connecting the AXI PCIe bridge block, I got some problem.
Currently, I can access DDR3 through PCIe.
The path is Host PC ==> PCIe ==> AXI PCIe bridge ==> AXI interconnect ==> DDR3.
Now, I want to send data from Microblaze to Host PC as well, but don't know how to do it.
Tthe path I think should be : MicroBlaze ==> AXI interconnect ==> AXI PCIe bridge ==> PCIe ==> Host PC.
How should I connect the S_AXI_CTL and S_AXI port on AXI PCIe bridge?
Should S_AXI_CTL be connected? Is it also connected to M_AXI port of AXI interconnect?
Thanks a lot!
David

This setup looks a bit dangerous because you are mapping PCIe->AXI to address 0x00000000 which will inturn get decoded and go back out to PCIe land.
The M_AXI port from pcie probably only needs access to mig and maybe uart. The microblaze Data port address space looks correct. Any access from microblaze to address 0x00000000 will get decoded by the interconnect and passed to the S_AXI port on the pcie bridge. Then, the pcie bridge translates the axi address 0x00000000 to the PCIe address 0xFF000000.
I'm not a PCIe guru but I believe the software on the host will need to configure its pcie bridge in order to allow access to motherboard resources from the development board. On a linux host, the pcie driver would be responsible to map host memory or motherboard resources to be accessable from the development board.

• 485 4 wire to 2 wire connection with PCIe 8431

I am trying to connect to a watlow temperature controller with my PCIe 8431. When I wired up the cable I shorted Tx+ to Rx+ (p 4,8) and Tx- to Rx- (P5,9) to connect to the controller. I assume this is converting from 4 wire to 2 wire but, when you look at the "loop back" connections from NI this is exactly what they tell you to do. I ask since I am uncertain and I am not able to establish communication with the controller.

• HDMI connection through PCI Express X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Pro Series and Nvidia GTX 2951

Hello,
I want to connect HDMI connection through PCI Express X-Fi Titanium Fatalty Pro Series and Nvidia GTX 295\but i cant tell which of the pins on the Audio Card is the Spdif.

CRe: Mic not working (PCI Express X-Fi Titanium Fatalty Pro Series)? Hello,
Thanks for the reply.
The headset is connected via the 3.5mm jacks in the card.
I believe I have it working now. I ended up having to unstall the drivers and software, reboot, install drivers and software and then mess with the settings. The only issues that I am having now is that I hear a a really high sort of feedback/hiss tone from the headphones now. To correct this I have to turn the input for the microphone down really low within the Windows 7 controls for the microphone and turn it up with Ventrilo to get the mic to work and remove the feedback/hiss.
I believe that the issue stems from the flexjack setting. The whole flexjack thing really seems to mess with the microphone settings. I believe I choose line-in instead of microphone.
Once I get home tonight from work, I will hopefully post the exact settings I came up with to get the mic to work.

• Using PCI-8532 with NI-DNET 1.6.6 / NI-DNET 2.0.2

I have a test fixture PC with the following configuration:
PCI-8532 DeviceNet card
Windows 7 Enterprise, SP 1
LabVIEW 2010 Runtime
NI-DNET 1.6.6 with MAX 5.0
No LabVIEW development environment
PCI-8532 is not available in MAX and the Windows Device Manager shows the card as 'PCI Device' with exclamation mark.
Here is a screen shot of the Windows Device Manager and MAX:
I cannot install the NI-Industrial Communication for DeviceNet 2.0.2 on this computer because I am getting the following error:
Well, I have two questions
How can I install and use the PCI-8532 and see it with NI-DNET 1.6.6? If this is not possible:
How can I create an executable on my development system (laptop) with LabVIEW 2010 or LabVIEW 2011 and start this executable on the test fixture. Currently on my development system I have:
LabVIEW 2010 and LabVIEW 2011 professional
NI-DNET 1.6.6
No NI hardware at all
Do I need to install the NI-Industrial Communications for DeviceNet 2.0.2 on my laptop (my development system)
Will this interfere with my current NI-DNET 1.6.6 and can I select which driver to use at compilation time
Thanks,

Solved!

Hy Nick,
No, it is defenitely not a replacement yet and I will work with our Web Department to make that more clear on our web page.
The development for the new API is pretty much done but based on your feedback we are thinking of improving the compatibility so you could for example use the old 1.6.x APi and the new 8532 APi on the same machine, so you could use old and new hardware on that same machine. Would that be important for you?
For now we are planning to allow only one hardware type at the same machine to save some development time. Let me know what you think.
To clarify the today situation: The InCOM for Devicenet component is not a part of LabVIEW. It is just a very simple way of communication with IO variables and function blocks for EM. The driver should install just fine even without LV installed. The error message is pretty much a Bug on our side and the workaround would be to use the LV Installer builder to create a new Installer that can install the Incom Dnet 2.0.x driver without having Lv installed.
And today you should be able to have both the 1.6.x and the 2.0.x driver installed in parallel and use the 1.6.x API with ypour old boards and the 2.0.x IO variable approach with your new board.
I keep this post updated as soon as we have a stable Beta available I will post something.
