  • Mail server log says: master[50]: ERROR: Cannot start mail services...

Recently, after a year or more of relatively smooth service, my OS X Server 10.4.11 Mail services has been locking up daily.
I was finally able to get some information from the log files (I am a noob to this) and saw the following right after my most recent reboot of the server:
Oct 5 09:51:11 mm1 master[50]: ERROR: Cannot start mail services, configuration directory does not exist: /Volumes/Data/mail/var/imap
I checked the server and that directory is indeed there on the partition named "DATA", so I am baffled as why the server does not thing the configuration directory exists?

Thanks Alex for the feedback. You are helpful as always!
It's good to know that the message I am getting from the mail server about the configuration files is only a temporary thing. Although I find it strange that the mail service doesn't know where its config files are since it is specified in the mail server setup.
I looked at the log files you mentioned and do not see anything that looks like a specific problem with the mail services themselves.
Recently, however, I have been having recurring problems where my mail server and my Web/Database server have both become unresponsive at nearly the same time even though they are on different class A networks to where I cannot access them via ARD, Server Admin and even SSH. That is usually when my mail server goes offline. I was afraid it was because of that configuration error I was seeing, but think now that the problem could be something else entirely (maybe some kind of network problem or denial of service hacking attack, no idea).
    Thanks again.

  • ERROR: Cannot start mail services, configuration directory does not exist

I'm running an Xserve G5 with one internal boot drive and one RAID using the other two internal drives. I used Apple's Disk Utility to set-up the RAID.
Back in early December, I moved my mail database and mail store to the RAID. Ever since, when I restart the server, the mailaccess.log generates the following error:
Jan 23 18:51:33 mail master[47]: ERROR: Cannot start mail services, configuration directory does not exist: /Volumes/RAID/mail.data/db
I'm speculating this is a timing error that gets created when Postfix initially can't find the RAID. Then, it must try again and find it because the error message does not repeat and mail starts running.
Is this something to worry about?

    Hi Joel,
You're right, it's a timing issues. The mail system is ready for work before the file system is mounted. It's benign.

    Hello Rakesh,
I tried the following and it worked for me !! I can start the Presentation services now. You might want to check these 2 things:
    1) C:\OracleBI\server\Config\ NQSconfig.INI check which rpd file is there
    2) C:\OracleBIData\web\config \ instanceconfig.xml see which one is there
Note: If Samplesales is creating problem. Creat one more folder there called Samplesales1 and provide the path of samplesales1 instead of samplesales in instanceconfic.xml file.
Make sure there must be only one folder under one name(check here : C:\OracleBIData\web\catalog) ,or it will create problem.
Hope this should work for you
    Cheers,

  • Win2k cannot start oracle services

    Hi,
Usually, our oracle servers can start up autometically
    when the machine start up.
Just now, oracle services cannot start. I try use
    start->control panel->administrator tool-> services to
start oracle service, it gets errors as following:
could not start the OracleOraHome90TNSListener service on
    local computer.
    Error 5: Access is denied.
Then I try to use "lsnrctl start listener"
    I got following errors:
Failed to start service, error 5.
    TNS-12536: TNS:operation would block
    TNS-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error
    TNS-00506: Operation would block
32-bit Windows Error: 997: Unknown error
I check listener log file, no new message is add to it.
My OS is window 2000 professional.
    Oracle server version: 9.0.1.1.1
    Thank you for some advice.
    Julie

    Hi,
I try to fix it by change log on setting by
setting the oracle service as 'this account' and
fill in account and password with system administrator
account information. Then all oracle services can work
properly. But with this setting the web application which
connect oracle database cannot login to database.
It may be the registry database of the machine get
    corrupted.
How can I delete all oracle services and recreate the
them again, then will re-register the service information?
By the way, all other services in system are log on as
localsystem account, only oracle services does not allow
me set up as localsystem account, if I did that way, oracle service will not start and complain "error 5:
    access is denied"
Thank you for give me some guide lines.

  • Cannot start Analysis Services 2008 service

    Hi!
I have Sql Server 2008 R2 and Analysis Services 2008. I could use it without problems for few days, but today, when I stop analysis service with Sql Server Configuration Manager and tried to start it again, it gives me error message: "The request failed
or the service did not respond in a timely fashion. Consult the event log or other applicable error logs for details". The msmdsrv.log file doesnt have any entries related to this error.
Both Sql Server and AS are installed on my local machine and log on as LocalSystem.

  • Cannot start platform service

When I start windows, Network Magic starts automatically, but this problem occurs if I start NM after boot as well.
I get a message that states--
"Platform Service could not be started. Error code -2147024894"
I have re- installed NM, and rebuilt the windows network components.  I have also completely removed the Symantec products from my system, with no change.
    Any ideas?

    Symantec System protection

I had this VERY SAME ISSUE..
I checked MSCONFIG and found that the line where anything related to Linksys and Network Magic had "Quotes" at the beginning and end of line.
I went into my registry and removed the "Quotes" and restarted my computer .... I no longer get the error message.

  • Cannot start Bonjour service during install

Cant install itunes because you get that stupid cant start Bonjour service error?
Here is what I did to get it installed:
    1. In iTunes - Help -> check for updates
    2. Tools -> download only. Download the updates
    3. Tools -> open download folder.
    4. Install the Bonjour msi
    5. Install iTunes msi
Seriously Apple, fix your software. If this fails to start then the installer should be allowed to finish!

During the last update (not the first time I updated) I received the message "cannot find bonjour.msi". I have tried downloading, but that fails and freezes my internet access. I cannot access itunes (the message is "This is only valid for installed software") and I cannot delete itunes via control panel (cannot find [if I remember correctly] "appleupdater.msi"). I cannot even find an email address to ask Apple about this (maybe I missed it somewhere). So, I cannot use, download, delete, or update itunes. Any helpful suggestions?

  • Cannot start oid services

I install oracle8i on windowsXP, the installation is successful(no warnings). But when I type "oidmon " in a command line to start the directory service,it tells me there is no sunch a command. How I can do to solve this porblen. Is it a installation problem,a OS problem or anything else?
Any answer is welcome. Thank you in advance.
    Ti

    Ti,
installing the DB doesn't install OiD. With 8i installer you have to specify to do an 'Infrastructure Installation'
In $OH/bin you have to find the OiD executables like oidctl, oidmon etc.
More important the installation type you're trying is not supported on XP. Pls check the Certification/availability
    matrix on
