Connectivity IBM 2210 router with Cisco

Customer have existing IBM 2210 routers, and they just bought Cisco router for their expanded network. So they need to integrate Cisco router with their old IBM routers by connecting SDLC-to-SDLC between 3746 and 3174.
The diagram is like follow:
3174 -sdlc- IBM2210 --ethernet-- Cisco -sdlc- 3746
Is this connection possible? Can be done by using DLSw or other way?
Since I've never handled IBM router before.
Thanks a lot,
Chris

Providing the IBM router can handle DLSW to SDLC, then it should work with DLSW. The Cisco router does convert from SDLC to DLSW, although this is not part of the DLSW standard, but it is transparant to the other end what media the end device is on.

  • Vlan routing with cisco router and linksys switch

I have a linksys switch width vlan configured, connected to a Cisco router (1841), but I cant route between vlan’s.
    Please help me!!
It Works with a Cisco switch perfectly(with the same ip and vlan).

Yes. the linksys switch (SRW2024 24-Port 10/100/1000 Gigabit Switch) supports trunking.
If you want you can visit the link and see that the switch supports vlan, dot1q and trunking.

  • Linksys router with cisco switch

    Hello everyone,
Just wondering if i can connect a cisco switch to my linksys router. Any info will be helpful. Thanks.

Well, you should be more specific what info you need.
Your question is answered with: yes, you connect a cisco switch to a linksys router. You can connect pretty much any ethernet switch or hub to a linksys router.
Beyond that I don't know what you want to know and thus cannot really give you more info.

  • Can't connect to Netgear router with WPA enabled (MBP)

I just received a Macbook pro today, everything is wonderful except wireless networking. When it first started up, it detected my wireless network, showed me the SSID, and asked for a password. I entered the password, and it failed to connect. I decided to try later and did the rest of the install.
I connected via cabled ethernet and downloaded all of the updates. For a machine that shipped from the Apple store (custom config) a few days ago, I was surprised at having 13 LARGE updates to download. Grabbed them all, including a Firmware update which required two reboots. One for everything else, and another for the firmware.
I tried again from sysprefs, and asked for the diagnostics. It asks me for my WEP key, and there is no option for WPA. I tried entered the WPA key anyway, despite only three WEP options showing up, and it still fails.
Going through the Airport 'tab' and editing the connection, I get an option for WPA Personal, Enterprise, WPA 2 Personal, and WPA2 Enterprise as well.
I tried using WPA Personal and WPA 2 Personal and entering the key which works on other notebooks, still no joy.

Which Netgear router do you have? I use the Netgear
RangeMax WPN824 and works well with WPA enabled but I
think it may have failed to work the first time.
WGT624 v2. Works fine with other wireless devices from a number of vendors, and is detected by the Mac, but I can't connect. I don't want to disable WPA if I can help it, I have a number of other systems configured for it as is, plus guests that come to visit.
but some how I had to delete the connection,
let airport find it again and re-enter the password
to get it to work. One of those things I kind of did
in the process of troubleshooting and can't remember
exactly how it was I did it
I'll try that and see if it helps. Thanks for following up.
UPDATE: Sure enough, I deleted the network and added it back in by manually specifying the SSID and password, and it works now. No idea why, but there it is... thank you very much.

  • Error message when connect to wireless router with wifi enabled phone

    Wireless router model WRT54G Ver.2
i would like to seek help on this.
I have been using a wirreless router to access the internet with my computer and it has been working fine. recently i got a handphone with wifi capability (nokia 5800). I managed to connect the phone to connect to the wireless router (it says so in the phone status). but when i tried to open the browser in the phone i got an error message "No Gateway Reply".
Can anyone help me to troubleshoot?
    I enable WEP for security.
another thing is, i tried to use the phone to connect to another wireless router at the cafe, it worked well.
    thanks

When you connect your handphone to your wireless network, whats the IP address you are getting it on your handphone, if required you can provide a static ip on your handphone i.e IP : 192.168.1.10, Subnet : 255.255.255.0, Default Gateway : 192.168.1.1, DNS1: 4.2.2.2, DNS2 : 4.2.2.1 and after this you can restart your handphone and try to check if you are able to go online or not.

  • IBook cannot connect to woreless router with airport card

    The Situation
my iBook G3 dual usb cannot connect to my wireless router. The router is using wpa and wpa2 encryption and broadcasting on 802.11b and g, on channel 12. The SSID is broadcast, but the iBook airport card cannot see it. The card CAN see other networks in my area. My iMac Mini (spec OS X 10.5.5, airport built in) is connecting to the same router and can see the SSID, so its not the aerial.
I select 'Other...' on the airport menu to connect, and type in my network name and the WPA2 Personal password. I then get the message: 'The Wireless Network <network> does not support the requested encryption method'
So what's the problem? And how can I fix it?

I'm having the same problem, but having been through the threads I'm getting nowhere!
Running a 2001 dual USB G3 Ibook. Connects fine on home network via Airport Express, but will not connect to PC/Belkin wireless network at my Dad's place. Newer macs seem to connect fine - but not my old dear.
It detects the network OK and prompts for a WPA password, but it is not recognised.
The router is set up for WPA/WPA2-PSK (AES encryption)
Tried turning the security protocols off on the router - still can't connect.
Same circular "network settings have been changed by another application" if I try and use the IBook's network / airport wizards.
My software is fully up to date - the ethernet connection works fine with the router.
    This is driving me insane!

  • No able to connect to router with WEP key

I want to connect to a router with a 10 digit hex WEP key. Entering this key into Airport, I says that the password is invalid. Using a XP system, I use the same key with a shared autentication option. How can I wireless connect to this router. I know the SSID name. I tried also to start with a $ sign, but no success.

Put a $ sign in front of the password. So if your password is bnghtybngh type in $bnghtybngh.

  • Moved my laptop and now I can't connect to the router

I'm a novice at this - but that didn't stop me from setting up a wireless network  - it was very easy, everything went fine and was working great for months.  I took the laptop out of the house and used it at another location.  When I brought the laptop home again it asked for a password - which do I use the passphrase or Key 1?  Should I expect this to happen everytime I mobilize the laptop?  My router is WRT54G.  Thanks!

Connect to your router with a cable and name your network different. "linksys" is the default network name of a Linksys wireless router. Anyone you buys a Linksys router and just plugs it without changing it ends up with it. Maybe another neighbor bought a Linksys router as well. Thus, always rename the network name to something unique so that you can be sure that you connect to your network and not to somebody else's. Because the problem is: when your computer searches for wireless networks it only checks the name of the network. It does not show whether there is only one access point with that name or several. It could be a roaming network where several access points must have the same name or it could be just accident like several people running routers with the default name. Therefore: connect to your router with a cable, open http://192.168.1.1/ and reconfigure the wireless network name (SSID) on the wireless tab to something else. Connect to that network...

  • Extend Range of Belkin Wireless Router with Airport Express Base Station

I would like to know if I can extend the range of my Belkin N1 Wireless Router using the the Apple Airport Express Base Station?
If so, can someone help me to find out which settings/configuration I need to set of my Router and Airport Express in order the extend the range of my network.
Thank you in advance for your support.

DLink Xtreme wireless N cabled to the Time Capsule 1TB - Simultaneous dual-band Wi-Fi. In addition to extending wireless range, would this also allow me to connect cabled devices to the Airport? In essence, increasing the number of cable ports available on the network?
Connect an ethernet cable from one of the LAN <-> ports on the D-Link router to the WAN (circle icon) port on the Time Capsule.
Configure the Time Capsule as a "bridge" to use the exact same wireless network name, exact security and password as the D-Link router and you will in effect, have one large wireless network. Computers will be able to "roam" from one area to another and they will automatically connect to the router with the strongest signal.
The ethernet ports on the Time Capsule would be active and operate exactly the same as the LAN ports on the D-Link. Computers could plug into either router for an ethernet connection.
The toughest challenge in this type of configuration with routers from two different manufacturers is that they typically use different names for security types. If the security settings between the two routers do not match exactly, you won't have one network, you'll have two, each requiring a separate log on.
Check the configuration pages on the D-Link to see what type of security it is configured to use. Hopefully, it is +WPA2 Personal+, since that is the most compatible type of security among devices. Or +WPA/WPA2 Personal+ would work.
If the D-Link does not use this type of security, what is it using now? What are the other WPA associated settings that are available? We need to know this in order to provide you with the correct step by step configuration.
Post back with your questions and findings.

  • Configuration of IBM 2210 to CISCO 7206 with CIP using Fras-host

We are converting from a frame-relay connection directly into a 3745 to the Mainframe to the 7206 with a CIP to the Mainframe. We are using fras-host on the 7206 and fras-bnn on the remotes with SDLC controllers. The remotes that are Ciscos using fras-bnn work fine. The remotes that have 2210s using the IBM implementation of Ban-Bnn don't work. I can get the 2210s and the 7206 to use DLSw+, but we don't want to do this for network security reasons, so we need the fras-bnn to work on the 2210s also. It looks like the 7206 doesn't see the remote trying to connect. Any ideas on what might be wrong?

The Fras-host feature actually has some quite good debugs (unlike fras-bnn). These may be of some help in determining whether or not the router is actually seeing the connection attempt eg

  • Trouble connecting Cisco router with cable modem for Internet purposes

So I am requesting help from the Cisco community on this issue as the cable company states there equipment is working fine.  At all my facilities I have a guest Internet service setup through a local Internet provide to provide Internet services to the residents and guests.  I have the cable modem usually a Motorola SBG6580 or a SMC 8014 (both provided by cable company) connected to my router on a FE or GE interface.  I am using static IPs and using the cable modem just as a modem (bridge mode).  Over the past several months these connections have just stopped working.  I have not made any drastic changes to my router configs; however, the cable company has updated the firmware on these modems.  I am wondering if that could affected how the modem and router talk.  I was told by the cable company that the modem sees the Cisco router but that the port is inactive.  My router shows the port is active and traffic passing.  Does anyone have any ideas that could point where the problem lies?  I will post a basic config to one that currently does not work.  I am using a VRF to route a certain group out, using NAT.  Please let me know if I need to post additional info.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
