Connectivity issues to PC and itunes after 3.1 update

PC and Itunes doesnt recognise the iphone at all since i updated with 3.1.
We have tried:
* uninstalling itunes and reinstalled
* stopped and restarted apple and ipod services (on PC)
* Device manager didnt recognise it as a iphone
* forced start up (on PC) to start up apple services only
* disc management didnt identify it as a device
* reset settings on iphone
* system restore on PC (to before 3.1 was downloaded)
all of these failed despited these recommendations from apple support site.
help please!

Did you try to connect to another computer to make sure the USB cable and the docking connector is working?

    My husband and I have been having problems with our iphone 5c since the ios7.1 update. We can't seem to send messages to each other now without incurring data charges, because our icloud messaging seems to have both phones synced to my itunes account. I have tried logging into itunes under each of our user id and syncing our respective phones to them, but it is not working. Any Ideas on what to do to fix this?
    When we updated last week on Friday, we had other problems with loss of ringtones, no calls coming through do to the do not disturb feature being fully enabled and no alert to incoming calls while phone is locked. Spent a good hour on the phone with support and didn't resolve, tried resetting, rebooting etc. We ended up in an apple store on Saturday, where the guy got the ringtones, etc. working, but disabled our messaging and when tryng to sign back in, we found both phones linked to my itunes account. Since then, having problems with messaging... At a loss as to what to do now.

    Thanks. We did do all of that, and still kept having problems. I finally figured it out about 5 minutes after I posted. After signing each phone into respective itunes accounts and setting up all of the messaging features to sign into the same, I had to disable the "send as sms" feature inside messaging. Once I was able to force routing text messages addressed to his phone back through imessage from turning this off, my phone finally recognized his imessage seperate account and let the message go through properly. After a couple of tests, then I enabled the "send as sms" again, and it seems to be working fine.
    This update has really been a pain, caused us several issues this go around.

    Try to restore from another known-good computer and network.

    No. That would only be required if there is an interruption  during the update, which would then mean it needs to be restored.

    First, you do not have a 3G if you could upgrade it to 6.1.3, because 4.2.1 is the last version that will work on the 3G. So you either have a 3GS or you somehow hacked the phone to install an incompatible version. You can check the model you have by entering your serial number here: https://selfsolve.apple.com/agreementWarrantyDynamic.do
    Assuming you have a 3GS the most likely reason for your problem is you have a gray market phone that was hacked or jailbroken to unlock it. When you upgraded it you removed the hack, so the phone is now locked to its original carrier.

    The only way all iTunes content on his iPhone can be removed is if he synced his iPhone with iTunes after the current iTunes version was installed and his iTunes library on his computer is now empty. A warning message should have been provided indicating this would happen if he proceeded with the sync.
    His iTunes library on his computer is now completely empty - no music or anything else?
    Nothing available in the iTunes named folder located in his Music folder?

    Yes, able to make a call to Apple Support but in the end still keep on going to try the Apple ID and Password.
    And it seems like the iPhone ID  in this device been locked
    May to know is that possible to ask the Apple Technician to unlocked the ID so i could activate the iPhone without log in any Apple ID?

    Only if y can get the iPod out of recovery mode with the program. Otherwise you will have to restore via iTunes which erases the iPod.

    There is a problem - but Apple have not acknowledged it. Many people on these forums are experiencing the same issue.

    As Niel has suggested Mac OS X 10.5 Lepaord.
    But first of all make sure that your iBook is above 800Mhz and you have at least 512 Meg of memory. (1 GB recommended)
    Please note, that if you do install Mac OS X 10.5 on your iBook, it will not allow you to install the latest version of iTunes version 11. The most recent version of iTunes that can be installed would be 10.5, which will be compatible with your iPod touch 4th gen, provided it's not been updated to iOS 6.
    Sadly you can't install any version of Mac OS X above 10.5 Leopard, as it they requires an Intel processor, which your iBook G4 does not have.
