Connectivity issues with 11g Express Edition on 64bit Windows 7 Professional

Hello,
I uninstalled my 10g version of Express Edition, and proceeded to install the 11g version. I can connect with sqlplus, but when I try to open the DB web app (apex), I'm unable to.
The clsc.log file shows the following error:
Oracle Database 11g Clusterware Release 11.2.0.2.0 - Production Copyright 1996, 2010 Oracle. All rights reserved.
2015-01-08 19:55:52.286: [ default][41100]ut_read_reg:2:ocr registry key SOFTWARE\Oracle\olr cannot be opened. error 2
[ CLSE][41100]clse_get_crs_home: Error retrieving OLR configuration [0] [Error opening olr registry key. The system cannot find the file specified.
I've uninstalled and re-installed twice with the same results. Anybody knows what's going on?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Are you installing the 64-bit version of XE ?

Oracle Discoverer 4i (portal db - oracle 8i) connectivity issue with 11g database

Hi All
We have oracle discoverer 4i with portal db (oracle 8i).
We connect to the external databases using db links in the portal db and the reports will use the db link to retrieve the data from views in the external databases.
External databases we were connecting is oracle 10g version and now we have upgraded these databases to 11g version.
Now i have a created a new db link to this 11g database and i have created a new EUL in portal to connect to this 11g database.
But when i try to create a report using the discoverer from this new EUL after login to the discoverer we get a "cannot connect to database" error.
We have all the necesscary privilege to the user and the new database link works perfectly fine. (when we try to query directly using SQL plus from portal database using this db link the query works perfectly fine).
Im not sure if this is a compatibility issue in connecting from oracle disc 4i to a 11g database.
Can any one advise if this is the case and if there is any workaround for this?

Are you saying you are having issues with a database link between 8i and 11g (pl post exact versions to 4 digits) ? If so, it should be expected as database links between these two versions are not supported. Is there a reason you cannot upgrade the portal database to at least 10gR2 ?

Ethernet/wireless connectivity issues with Airport Express

I am having problems with my PC seeing my newly aquired AE and was hoping someone can help, none of the topics already discussed seem to be exaclty the same as my issue.
Scenario:
* iTunes on the PC does not detect the AE so I cannot play my iTunes setup through my stereo.
* The PC can ping the AE.
* The PC can configure the AE if I open the AirPort utility and go to File, Configure Other and enter teh units details.
* Both laptops can connect to the AE via iTunes and the AE Utility also picks up the device.
Equipment
* I have an Open Networks 625W 4 port ADSL router with wireless included in the unit.
* My PC is connected to my LAN via ethernet and is running Windows Vista fully service packed.
* I have two laptops both connected via wireless on my LAN and all devices (ethernet and wireless) can see each other.
* I have an AE with latest firmware and the latest version of the Airport Utility running.
* The bonjour service is running on the PC.
* I have tried turning the PC's F/W off with no change.
* I have tried connecting one of the laptops to my network via ethernet and had the same issues as the PC.
Configuration:
I have tried many different methods of configuration but the one that has me working this far is-
* Joined to a wireless network.
* Using DHCP (and getting IP addresses fine off the third party router)
* Connection sharing is off by default so its working in bridged mode.
Its almost as if the router is not allowing those packets related to Airtunes to pass through from/to the wireless router(and I have tried so many different settigns there). I believe Bonjour is required and Im not sure if any routers have issues with bonjour but I believe its encapsulated within IP packets (not sure on that though). Or Maybe some routers don't work in this scenario and I need to update to a Belkin Wireless G or N or other. Or maybe the software will only accept direct wireless connections if its configured for wireless - I have no idea and am losing hair fast.
Please, any help would be appreciated.

I finally cracked it!
I have enabled dynamic routing with RIP v2 (v1 works too), enabled multicast with IGMP proxy and used a bridge filter allowing all traffic between the LAN and the wireless networks. All three settings are required with my router. If I drop any of them AE from LAN to wireless will not work.

Connect Toad freeware with Oracle express Edition, How?

Although I know that people will raise the question this is Oracle and use SQL developer... Ok I do that and that is working fine. But on my work they work with TOAD so I like to work with TOAD as well and I want get some knowledge about Toad, TNSNAMES etc.
I've put the issue on TOAD forum as well, but till now I don't have received an answer.
I want to teach/learn myself Oracle by working with the Oracle express edition. I have downloaded the SQL Developer and I can work with it, which means I can create a connection.
Errors when I try to work with TOAD are:
If i try to make a connection:
- "No valid clients found. You need at least one 64-bit client properly configured"
If I click on TNSNames editor:
- Access violation in address xxxxxxx at module TOAD.exe"
I have installed oracle at D:\ORACLE_HOME. In this directory is also a TNSNAMES.ORA file.
I have installed the express edition with the installer. I have first installed the Oracle express edition and later TOAD.
I'm working on my local machine with:
- windows 7 Home
- Oracle 32 bit client:
- Oracle Database 11g Express Edition Release 11.2.0.2.0 - Production
- PL/SQL Release 11.2.0.2.0 - Production
- "CORE 11.2.0.2.0 Production"

Primavera CM compatibility with Oracle 11g Express Edition

We are trying to install Primavera CM 13.1 application (on windows 7 32 bit) with oracle 11g express edition (on CentOS 5.4 64 bit). Installation is completed without any warning but while trying to log on in the system with expadmin, it shows Internal Server Error. Through dbconfigcm utility we can connect the database but while running the CMAdminConfig utility, it throws java exception in command line "Unable to parse XML String" with java pop-up warning node has no children.
Is it due to compatibility issue of Primavera CM 13.0/ 13.1 with oracle 11g express edition or something we are missing?

Thanks Jim for the quick response. From the link, I understand that TT integration will be available with an extra cost. I presume it is only with EE and not XE, correct? Technically, there is no TT support with XE, Is that a fair statement?

11g Express Edition Release 2 (11.2) | Installation Issues

I am trying to install 11g Express Edition Release 2 on a Windows XP (sp3) system that meets the system requirements documented in Oracle&reg; Database Express Edition
My installation was done as follows;
accepted default settings
setting the password for SYS and SYSTEM database accounts
no errors observed during install
reboot
After the install I verified oracleservicexe service running and had the following issues:
When I launch "Get Started with Oracle Database 11g Express Edition", Chrome browser opens "127.0.0.1:8080/apex/f?p=4950" and reports an error "Google Chrome could not connect to 127.0.0.1:8080"
When I try to connect using SQL Plus, "c:\>sqlplus system, enter password used during install, I get the ORA-01089: Immediate shutdown in progress..." error.
Any advice or help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Getting started with Oracle 11g express edition

I am currently in a college class doin SQL. I have downloaded oracle 11g express edition. I'm trying to get started and when I try to create a new connection it takes me to a screen where I have to sign in. When I use my oracle sign in and pass word it tells me it doesn't recognize it. No I know it works because I can sign in on the web site. But it won't connect me or allow me to make a new connection. I really don't understand what is going on. I can seriously use some help. Something that will take me step by step on what I need to do. I have to create a data base and I'm not sure how to do it.

Oracle 11g Express Edition with Default Apex 4

Hi,
I recently installed Oracle 11g Express Edition, It came by default with apex 4 installed in it, I did not install apex in my system since it already had apex 4 in build.
Next I created a schema and tried to import some of the application developed in apex 4, But i am getting this below error.
>>1 error has occurredNOT COMPATIBLE (Your export may contain calls not supported by your application version.)
Kindly please suggest me do i need to install apex again in the system or what is the alternative method to make application install.

Oracle 11g express edition not connecting

2 days back i installed Oracle 11g express edition. I worked good for a day and now its not getting connected
1)when i try to get started it used to display the Oracle DataBase XE homepage. but now i have the following error message
Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at 127.0.0.1:8080.
2) In SQLPlus when I did

I reinstalled the software again and mySQL is working good.mySQL?! Or do you mean, you can connect using sqlplus (the database "command line")?

So, if you can connect using sqlplus (which didn't work in your first post, probably works now after reinstallation), you could open up a command line window and run
lsnrctl statusIf you don't find an entry like the following one, your Database Listener wasn't able to bind to that port. Either you have a (rapid) changing hostname/IP-adress, no active network interface, or a port conflict.

The output of that command gives you several other information that might help you find resources for debugging, e.g. the location of your *Listener Parameter File* and your *Listener Log File*. You can take a look at these to find out what's going wrong.

Oracle ILM Assistant 1.4 Installation for Oracle 11g Express Edition

Can we use Oracle ILM Assistant 1.4 with Oracle 11g Express Edition?
I installed ILM Assistant with Oracle 11g Express Edition along with default APEX in my laptop. Oracle SQLPlus connect and Application Express working fine. But facing problem is connecting ILM Assistant.
I used below commands to install ILM Assistant
sqlplus /nolog
Connect SYS as SYSDBA
Password: oracle
@ilma_install oracle ILM_ASSISTANT NONE
granted all access rights to user
@ilma_post_install
I restarted by computer once installation completes.
When I use http://localhost:8080/pls/apex/f?p=737677 address in IE to connect ILM Assistant it ask for XDB server username and password. When I provide default password IE giving 404 Not Found error.
Just wondering if I am missing something or issue is some thing else.

Installing Oracle 11g Express Edition

Hello,
I am a little new to this, but I'm trying to install a local database server onto my laptop to use for my OCA preparations...
I was hoping someone can explain what I'm doing wrong... I'll try and provide as much information as I can.
I downloaded Oracle Database Express Edition 11g Release 2 (http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/express-edition/downloads/index.html) and installed it... Unzipped the file to Disk 1 folder and ran setup.exe. Got the prompted and left everything with their default values and the install went fine.
Tried to run the "Get Started With Oracle Database 11g Express Edition" from my desktop and it tries to open up APEX on 127.0.0.1:8080 and that fails (cannot establish a connection).
I tried starting up the database with the command provided in the Oracle Database 11g Express Edition folder and then went to "Run SQL Command Line". Tried to connect to the database with system/<password> and it returns an ORA-01089 error - immediate shutdown in progress.
I have already installed Oracle - OraHome92 in the past for work on the machine as just a client...
Is this simply an issue of restarting the computer to get all of the services working properly?
Do I need to install the full blown 11g database from http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/enterprise-edition/downloads/index.html instead?
I just want to be able to create the simple schemas and tables that the textbook says are provided and not do it on the company servers...
Any information or links to getting this set up would be greatly appreciated.
If you need me to provide any more details, I will do my best and give you the information as well...

Hi Ivan,
I think in you're case its better to keep with the Express edition. You could have it on you're notebook everywhere, It's not so heavy and doesn't requires a lot of space, but you still have all the Oracle database behaviour.
Regarding the Apex URL you should put one /apex/ at the end of the URL and then login with admin and password you've entered during installation.
Regarding the error this means that the database is in progress of shutting down. Open command prompt and run adrci (Automatic Diagnostic Repository Command Interface), then type show alert and then select the number 1 (should be something like diag/rdbms/xe/XE). Once the new windows opens up scroll to the bottom and you'll see the last event which occurred in the database.
Either way you could try restarting you're computer and then start the service when it boots up.

Does Oracle 11g Express Edition 11.2.0.0 support the impdp utility ?

We are trying to import an Oracle dump within a Express Edition, without success. We got the error message: ORA-39213: Metadata processing is not available.
A) Source data base: Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.1.0.7.0
B) Target data base: Oracle Database 11g Express Edition Release 11.2.0.2.0
Searching for solution led us to following forum entries:
1. http://kmpdba.wordpress.com/2012/05/02/ora-39213-metadata-processing-is-not-available/ Cause: DBMS_METADATA_UTIL package does not successfully ran. Solution: to install (among others) SQL> @$ORACLE_HOME/javavm/install/initjvm.sql
2. But: there is no @$ORACLE_HOME/javavm/install/initjvm.sql scrript -> http://www.oracle.com/us/products/database/enterprise-edition/comparisons/index.html -> Oracle 11g EX does not support java
Questions:
a) Does support Oracle 11g EX the impdp utility at all ?
b) How would it be possible to import the above mentioned dump from (A) into (B) ?

Sounds like the messing xsl files issue here: Upgrade from XE10 to XE11
Try
execute sys.dbms_metadata_util.load_stylesheets;and see if you get the missing xsl files error.
The XSL files are not distributed with Oracle 11g XE, but seems to be pre-loaded in the default database created by the installer. If you try to create your own database it wont have the stylesheets loaded and you'll need the xsl files to load them up.
The quick solution will be to copy the 180 xsl files from an Oracle 11.2.0.2 Enterprise to your Oracle 11g installation ($ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/xml/xsl/) and load the stylesheets.

DB Upgrade from Oracle 8i to Oracle 11g express edition

As per the requirement i have to upgrade some of our application from oracle 8i to oracle 11g express edition on window base platform.
I am using import/export utility to migrate data from oracle 8i database to newly installed oracle 11g XE database. after importing i have tested my application in testing environment. It is working fine.Now I have to do this in production env. before proceeding with it.
please someone let me know what all things i have to keep in mind before execute in prod env. Like all risk,databse backup recovery, or any guidelines need to follow while upgrading lower version of oracle to 11g XE version.

You might want to consider what other programs interacts with the database; can they still connect to a much newer db server version? Any integrations that need a dry run before going in production? Any other "ad hoc" applications, like excel, running against the db? (you could use listener.log to find out what connects to the db, but a year worth of history might be needed)
Do you have any scripts or other "loosly coupled" stuff that needs review?
