Connectivity of Websphere with Oracle reports running on Oracle 9i AS

How can we connect to Oracle Reports services and in turn generate reports; by accessing it from an application running in websphere, which is running on different machine in the same network. Our environment is such that we are forced to use these two application servers.

we're currently looking at building the reports j2ee thin client for ibm websphere - however do not have a scheduled date for this. you can see if the j2ee thin client meets your requirements by looking at the doc for it for the bea client:
http://otn.oracle.com/products/reports/htdocs/getstart/examples/Tools/thinclient/bea/Readme.html
is something like this for websphere what you are looking for?

  • List of Oracle Reports run through Oracle Portal.

    Hi,
It's possible that I am posting my message to a wrong Forum. If that's so, please let me know (and the correct forum too).
I have several Oracle Reports that are run through Oracle Portal (when user clicks a link for a report). I want to get a list of all such Oracle Reports in one go as I need to modify all of them. At the moment, to get the actual report name that I need to modify I am following the steps below.
When I am at 'Oracle Reports Security' page (in the Portal) where there is a section 'Reports Definition File Access',
    1. I click list icon without entering any value in the box. It shows me a list of all report definitions.
    2. After selecting a report definition, and clicking Edit, it shows me 'Manage Component' page. There are several links available. One of them is 'Edit'.
    3. I click 'Edit' and it shows me the actual 'Oracle Reports File Name'. This is the file I need to work on.
But instead of following the above steps for each of the several reports I need to modify, is there any way, say by running a SQL query, to find out the actual Oracle Reports file names?
The 'Manage Component' page shows 'Run Link' and links for 'PL/SQL source'. I tried to search for the schema name and package name in the database (by connecting as SYS user). However, I found neither the Schema not the Package.
Hope my question is clear. In brief, I want to get a list of Oracle Reports file names that are run through Oracle Portal.
Any questions, please let me know.
    Thanks and regards,
    Manoj.

    Jim,
Did you ever try to add Reports portlet as an item, so that user can click on each item to customize/schedule the report? You can have 50 of them, if that is what you really need.
Any reason why you want to create custom user interface, instead of using this vehicle that Portal provided by default?
You mentioned "The report Portlet ... does not allow customization." Actually, it does. You can do it by clicking on the Customize link of the Reports portlet.
    Hope this helps,
    -Jeff

  • Migrating to Oracle Reports 6i from Oracle Report 9i

    Hi all,
We re-compiled original Forms & Reports 6i source code with Oracle 9i Forms & Reports.
Forms are working really nice with almost no change at all with Oracle 9ias Forms services and Oracle 8i as db. The Oracle 9ias server is W2k. Will be upgrading to oracle 9i db in a short time.
The only change we applied to forms source code was the function to call reports. We are using WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT() instead of RUN_PRODUCT.
i.e. the URl is formed in all reports as
    http://ip_address:port/reports/rwservlet?DESTYPE=cache&DESFORMAT=PDF&userid=user/passwd@dbname&report=f:\web\formas\ametas\REP_DET_METAS_DPTO.REP&estrategia_par='08'&centro_par=249&depto_par=27100&anio_par=2003&TRIMESTRE_PAR=1
At the beginning we used directly the 6i reports but they were running inconsistently, after several calls to reports they got stock and we did need to reboot report services.
Then as a suggestion we re-build only two reports in reports 9i for testing. But same result when running in combination with 6i reports. Combination means, sometimes called 6i reports someothers reports in 9i.
The reports run fine several times but inconsistently. What I mean is that they can be running normaly many times and suddenly the reports server sends this message
    REP-50002:Server is shutting down
DBA reported this issue to our local support but they said configuration is ok.
In other tests and only running 9i reports it seems not getting stock never, at least we run two 9i reports more than 40 times. So the problem seems to be when we run 9i reports in combination with 6i reports. We are planning to migrate all our reports but this mean to rebuild all reports again.
Is someone facing this kind of problem?
Or is this the only solution? Losting men/machine hours rebuilding the reports.
Any suggestion for my DBA to check in configuration?

Sorry for the confusion the subject for this issue should be

    REP-52266: The in-process Reports Server rep_adminserver_ikit_asinst_1 failed to start.oracle.reports.RWException: IDL:oracle/reports/RWException:1.0

I was trying to add a new destination:
       <destination class="oracle.reports.server.DesMail" destype="mail"/>
I couldn't make it work , so I commented my changes.
In fact, I should have gone back to a backup file , as weblogic seemed to have changed the file itself!! (attributes of the xml tags were in different order, and more things ...) but just undoing what I have done did the trick.
This file seems to be quite picky, I left this tag uncommented

and the same REP-5226 error happened.

  • Connecting a form with a report

    Hi,
I have created a report page with two tables 'A' and 'B' , with ID as primary key for A and ID is foreign key for B . There is an edit link in each row of the report. When we click on that edit link it will be redirected to a form page which is based on only one of those table(as i cannot select both table) , ie B .
Problem is that the form is not auto populated with the value of the row in which i clicked the edit button.
    Please give some Idea.
    Thanks

This could be for a number of reasons that would be hard to identify without a simple example replicated on apex.oracle.com
Run the create page wizard through Form, Form on Table with Report - and you should receive two pages doing just this. Also compare to Sample application.

  • Any alternative to run Oracle Report without using Oracle Rpt Server?

    Hi,
Is there other alternative to run Oracle Reports if I don't have oracle report server?
Reason being I'm thinking of using Oracle10g iAS Standard Edition but this edition does not come with Oracle Report Server.
Is there anyway to run it? I need the report to be run through web browser and display as PDF.
    Please advise.

is there a library (pll) attached to the report which has not been compiled on the application-server ?

  • Oracle Reports : Run time error when there is a call to DBMS_LOB package

I am facing a strange issue, please do share if you have some inputs. When I try running the compiled RDF report(Generating XML to be specific), Oracle Reports Builder crashes when I make use of the following formula function. Strangely, this works fine in the backend. Moreover I tried debugging and by trial and error method found out that, when there is a call to the DMBS_LOB package it errors (works fine when this is commented). Please do let me know whats the root cause of this issue. Thanks in advance

And what version of Reports are you using?
BFILES are accessible from the database, not the client (Reports). So, put your code in the database.

  • Passing Parameters with a URL to an Oracle Report, on an Oracle Reports App. Server

I have built an Oracle report which resides on a Windows 4.0 / IIS application server with Oracle Reports installed.
(8i Database / 6i Developer 2000 suite). This works flawlessly when called from an Oracle Form.
My question is, how do I call the same report from portals and pass it the required parameters. Thanks!

    Hi,
You will have to encode your parameter value. The problem is because of the spaces in the value. Whenever there any special
characters in the value it should be encoded.
    example
    select '<area shape="rect" coords="335,66,528,83" href="http://townland:7778/pls/portal30/PORTAL30.RPT_SUMKWH.show_parms?meter='||
    <portal_schema>.wwutl_htf.url_encode('PMS 11BBA01')||'">pams</a>' url
    from meters
The above is just an example. Please change the names to suit your requirements.
    Thanks,
    Sharmila

Well, I would suggest that you got to be very clear with the query. Most of the report peformace is based on the query.
    1. Make sure that query is fine and note down the time it takes.
    2. If first step is clear and if you are happy with the output that is process time, then you can think about tuning the report.
( You may want skip this step)
    3. If that does not work you can investigate
what kind of array it uses and network speed and other thinks. I am not really familior with these set up.
    Good luck with it..

    Hi,

When I open the file with Oracle Report 10, I have the following warning : "Avertissement ! Ouverture d'un rapport enregistré avec une version plus récente. Risque de perte de fonctionnalité. What kind of information I may lose ?
Can I modify my file on Oracle Report 11g and compile it in Oracle Report 10g ?

    Michel,
Question 1 - the file will no longer be useable with Reports 10g - you will loose everything.
Question 2 - No, newer versions of Oracle Forms and Reports are not backward compatible with older versions.
Question 3 - No, see answer to question 2.

  • Oracle Reports Builder X Oracle Portal - Integration

    Hi everybody
I've created some reports with Oracle Reports Builder. Then I saved them as a JSP file.
I can view these reports in a normal WEB page, without problems. All that I need is to call the page with the parameters.
Now I need to deploy this report as a portlet, inside the Oracle Portal.
So, I've read the document "Publishing Reports to the WEB" (http://otn.oracle.com/products/reports/htdocs/getstart/docs/a92102_01.pdf) and I've followed the steps to run the report (JSP file) as a Portlet.
    I've done the following:
    - I've created a Database Provider
    - I've created the "Report Server Access"
    - I've created the "Report Definition File Access"
Until this point, everything is ok, I can "Run" and "Run as a Portlet" the report.
So, in the next class, "Adding the Report Portlet to a Page" (Page 8-8), the report portlet simply doesn't appear in the Portal DB Provider to wich it belongs!!! :-(
Has someone had this kind of problem?
    Any hint will be welcome!
P.S: The Oracle Portal, the Application Server, and the Reports Server are in a SUN Machine.
The Portal version is 2 (release 2).
    Thanks in advance

    hi adriano,
here is what you have to do:
    1. navigate to the db provider which holds the reports. click
on grant access: check the expose as provider
    2. builder - administer - oracle reports security -
edit the reports definition file access you created for
    your report.
click on the access tab - check publish to portal.
now you can see your report portlets for selection
    in portal.
    regards,
    christian hi,
I can run the report as portlet but I can't see the "Access" tab under Customize. I know the option "Publish to Portal" is available in other object, but the "Access" tab does not appear in any of the Report Defitinion file acess page. Only "Develop" and "Manager" is available. I'm running on 9iAS R1.02.2.2a.
    Thanks

  • How to integrate Oracle Portal running on Oracle Application Server 10.1.2

I have an Oracle Portal running on a Oracle Application Server 10.1.2.
Portal is responsible ( along with OID ) for the users authentication and authorization.
There is a new JEE application that was developed recently, which the Portal users must have access to.
HOW can I put a link into a page of the Portal, that redirects the portal user to a new browser window displaying my new application?
HOW can this new application, running in a separate weblogic 11g (10.3.5) server, automatically authenticate with the same username/password previously authenticated when the user logged into the portal?
    Any ideas?
I´ve already thought in a bunch of ways to do it:
    - put a link into the portal with a sessionId, then when opening the new app, it automatically tries to use the same session. How can I configure this session id during the creation of the portal's page? How can I use it from the new app to use the same session?
    - put a link into the portal with a userid, then when opening the new app, it automatically tries to authenticate using a different authentication provider configurated in WL, which points to Portal´s OID. In this situation, how can I ensure that the user is already logged in and the session has not timed out?
    - Should I use OSSO?
    - Should I use OAM?
    Any help would be appreciated!
    Murilo

    Hi Murilo,
A portletized version of your J2EE app would probably have been ideal for your purpose as it would handle both authentication (through SSO) and session information (through Portal framework as the framework can pass session information to the provider/producer). This would require changes to the application however.
Easiest approach would be to use mod_osso to protect your J2EE application. SSO would then handle the authentication for your Portal and your J2EE application.
    Thanks,
    EJ
