Note 7, 8, 9 are in China. 20% gateway packet loss? Unacceptable. Consider how badly TCP was designed, congestion control would render the link useless.

Things are only worse

  • New computer (windows 7) connection problem with Verizon DSL

    I just bought a new computer to replace a dead one.  I took the old one away and plugged the new one into the Verizon cable.  I have Verizon DSL, no wireless, no network at home, just a computer and a Westell modem.
    On the new computer, I have a successful internet connection in that I can reach Google.  I can conduct a Google search, but when I click on a search result I cannot reach that site.  I CAN successfully send and receive Gmail.  I CANNOT connect to Verizon's website, Amazon, Washington Post, Ebay, or most other sites.  What happens when I try is a small box comes up in the browser window saying "Connecting to [name of site]" and the in-progress thing goes around and around.  This will go on for as long as I let it (more than 1/2 hour), with no timeout or failure message -- just an empty browser window.  Results are the same in Explorer and Firefox.
    I hooked a borrowed computer into my Verizon line and the internet connection works fine to any site I try (I'm on it now).  Verizon techs have also done a line test and it's fine.
    I have taken the new computer (running Windows 7) back to the store 3 times.  They have hooked it into an Earthlink DSL line there and have shown me they have no difficulty whatsoever going to any of the sites that are not working for me at home.  They say the problem MUST be something to do with my Verizon connection.
    I've called Verizon tech support 3 times now.  They say it's not them, and there's nothing they can do -- but their Remote Assistant software isn't able to connect IN to my machine, just as I can't connect OUT to the Verizon site.  I have asked for a more up-to-date modem and was refused.
    I was tempted to just upgrade to FIOS but Verizon is being so unhelpful I am ready to bail on Verizon entirely.  Before I do, can anyone suggest what might be going on here?

    I bought an HP computer at Staples and had the same problem.  HP and Verizon could find no problems.  Verizon said the would send me a new modem to see if that fixed the problem. The problem was corrected after Verizon sent me a new modem for free.

  • Database connection problem from RDBMSRealm

    Hi Everyone,
    I am implementing an application with Weblogic5.1, RDBMSRealm, Merant type 4 JDBC driver and SQL server 7.0. When I am starting
    the Weblogic server, I am getting an error as described as follows. Can anyone there give me a clue?
    As you see, I am using Merant Spy JDBC driver (for debugging).
    With this kind of driver, any JDBC calls to database server
    in the code will be displayed.
    As you know, there are a quite number of "prepareStatement" from RDBMSRealm. When the weblogic server is starting, they have to be initialized. I don't understand why it needs to make a connection for each "prepareStatement"?, and why it is still in connection mode after it is initialized?
    Thanks a lot.

    John, this should be fairly easy to correct. Make sure that you are closing
    your prepared statements after you finish with then. Even if you have 3
    connections open and you don't close your statements, more connections will
    be opened to take care of need.
    Hope that this helps.

    All SQL server connections come from the code itself. As you see in themessage output, everytime when the server is initalizing a
    "prepareStatement(String sql)" which comes from RDBMSRealm, it is making a
    connection. When it starts the sixth, it is broken. In other words, to make
    the server start with RDMBSRealm, I have to have the number of SQL server
    licence at least the same as the number of "prepareStatement(String sql)" in
    RDBMSRrealm realm. Is my understanding correct here? Why is it still in
    connection mode after one "prepareStatement" is initialized? Any ideas?

  • WiFi connection problem from HP Photosmart C4780 to MacBook Pro

    I have an HP Photosmart C4780 that will not connection to my MacBook Pro.  I am operating on the Mac OS X 10.6.8.  It was working just fine when I was using my Apple Airport to project the WiFi in my house, but I recently bought a Apple Time Machine to back up my system and have a main networok and guest network for the house.  When I switched to the new device, I am now unable to get my printer to reconnect via WiFi.  I have downloaded all of the recommended software from the HP site.
    When I click on set up wireless connect, it starts the first step to find the device and then I wait and wait.  It just sits and spins and never finds the device.  Yes I have it plugged in and turned on.  I did not have any problems with this prior to switch the router for the WiFi so I am guessing it has to do with that, but I am lost on what to do.  Please Help

    Welcome to the HP Forums FlyGirl_1350,
    I see by your post that you now have the Apple Time Machine and aren't able to setup the printer again on the network.
    I can help you with this issue.
    Follow these steps to restore your product's network default settings. This will clear out the old router encryption.
    Touch the ATM button () next to Wireless / Scan.
    Touch the ATM button () next to Wireless Menu.
    Touch the ATM button () next to Wireless Settings.
    Use the up and down ATM buttons () to select Restore Network Defaults, and then press OK.
    Touch the ATM button () next to Yes to confirm your selection.
    Make sure the computer is connected to the Main Network Name and not the Guest Network name.
    Vice Versa. Sometimes the printer won't pick up the Guest Network to configure the wireless.
    Run the setup again.
    This document provides steps for setting up the printer on the network also.
    Installing the Printer Software for a Wireless Network Connection (Using an Access Point).
    If you are still having issues then power cycle all the devices in this order, power cycle the router, wait till it is back up again, turn the computer off and on again, turn the printer off and disconnect the power cable for 30 seconds, then reconnect it again.
    If there is anything else that I can help you with just let me know.
    Have a nice day!
    Thank You.

  • Connection problem from localhost or any URL in mobile devices

    I'm trying to fetch data from a website. I've used connection stream like this
    String url = "http://localhost/time.php";
    StreamConnection c = null;
    InputStream s = null;
    StringBuffer b = new StringBuffer();
    System.out.println("Openning connection:" +url);
    c = (StreamConnection) Connector.open(url);
    But i couldn't connect to the url. Everytime it shows problem like this in emulator-
    Urltest(my project name) wants to connect to
    http://localhost/time.php using airtime. This may result in charges.
    Is it OK to use airtime?
    Can anybody solve this problem? I really need to solve it as early as possible.

    Since the emulator wants to make a network connection, it will prompt you for permission. At this stage you should select OK and allow the emulator to connect to the remote server. But even then you may not be able to read the data from the server. For this you will have to implement the entire network connectivity code in a separate thread. The separate thread should handle all the Network IO part.

  • Facetime connection problems using Verizon mifi 4510L device

    Anyone having problems with iPhone facetime connection being dropped when using this wifi device? Phone/facetime work perfectly when on other wifi connections. Thanks, Matt

    The Verizon 4G network has terrible latency, so, while downloads (and uploads) can be fast, it can take them a while to get started, so any exchange that needs a fast response is likely to be unstable. The network also sometimes stops working for several seconds at a time. I have a Verizon LC-11 wireless hotspot and I'm not happy with it.

  • Connecting problems from my laptop to my home wireless system

    I had Linksys Wireless router about ten months ago, I set a wireless system in my house on my desktop to use my laptop and connect to internet. I had a windows XP. Ihave been using since then. I did not have any problem for set up and use, till I installed Windows Vista last week. Since then I have being struggling to re-estabilish my connection but i am not successful so far. I can get wireless connection at my son's and at my daughter's house with no problem, as before. I can get a local but insecure wireless connection but I don't want to use it. Why my laptop can not connect to my wireless but can connect everywhere. Can you help me please.(Router is WRT54G)
    Thanks, Dogan Ulkekul

    I had the same problem of keeping a connection on my brand new alienware laptop. I had to call customer service about it, along with some other problems I was having. He solved the dropping wireless by reinstalling the driver, only, right click on the setup file and goto properties. There was an option on running the driver as Windows XP, 98se, and such, choose XP and install the driver, rebooted and the signal was excellent from there on out, and no droppage like cingular cell phones
    Now if I can get my wireless router to work right during games and not lag out....

  • Connection problem from Windows to Unix

    I got problem connecting to Oracle 8i on Unix server. The oracle client is running on windows 98. I already made a connect string on TNSNAMES. I had an ok connection when i ping the Unix Server, and i also have an ok connection when i did tnsping <myconnectionstring> to the Unix server. But when i connect using SQLPlus I encountered an error,.. something like "Invalid Descriptor". Maybe i can post the complete error tommorrow. I would be happy if somebody will share their ideas.
    null

    SqlPlus 3.X uses SqlNet Easy Configuration and SqlPlus 8.x uses SqlNet8 Easy Configuration.while configuring SqlNet8 Easy configuration itself you should be able to test the connection. Check the Oracle SID is correct and the Host Name (IP) is correct.It will be simple error. re check TNSNAMES.ORA file. Better to use SqlNet8 Easy Configuration to edit instead of manually editing TNSNAMES.ORA file.
    good luck.

    Have you installed the Oracle client software on the machine where you are running WebLogic and your custom iFS application (your bean)?
    It looks like the native JDBC libraries are not available to the JVM where WebLogic is executing your code. iFS uses JDBC to access the Oracle database, and it requires "thick" (OCI8) JDBC to do so. This means that you need Oracle client software to be installed (in an ORACLE_HOME directory) on a computer where you want to use the iFS API.
    If you do have the Oracle client software installed already, then perhaps the WebLogic environment isn't configured to have access to the native JDBC libraries. Normally, as long as $ORACLE_HOME/lib is in the LD_LIBRARY_PATH (on unix) or $ORACLE_HOME/bin is in the PATH (on windows), stuff should just work.
    See if you can find any information about including native libraries (for instance, to use JNI) in the WebLogic documentation. We don't certify with WebLogic, which is why I don't know the answer offhand.

  • Connection Problem from iTunes to iPod

    My iPod has been having severe problems lately. I have had to reset it over a dozen times this week alone but it's still not working. I plug it into my computer, and it gives me the "Do not disconnect" screen, I then open iTunes but the iPod doesn't show up. I go to "My Computer" and it is listed as "removable device" or something, so I try and open it there, it still doesn't work and it says that it is unaccessible. I'm not sure at all what to do and any comments would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    k4tj3
    Thought your answer was the end to my problems (same as yours and many others too it would seem!) - but despite trying to revert to iTunes 7.2 through the website you suggested I got a message when trying to open iTunes 7.2 saying my itunes libary was incompatible because it had been created by a newer version. Did you not encounter this? Any workrounds since on version 7.5 my ipod is not being recognised as a device even though the diagnostic test works fine and it suggests its linking becuase when I plug in the ipod iTunes opens and the ipod shows as do not disconnect. I have had to restore my ipod which means all I have showing on it is the basic menu.
