Connectivity question using client hyper v on windows 8.1

Hi. I am creating a lab environment with 2 networks containing several vm’s running windows server 2012. I am connecting the networks using RRAS on a separate machine.
Each vm has 2 virtual switches; one is a private connection type  and the other is a public connection type. When both network connections are enabled on the vm’s, I cannot ping across the 2 netoworks. The only way I can ping across the 2 networks is
if I disable the public network connection on the vm’s. Is there a way to have both the private and public network connections enabled and still be able to ping across the networks ? Thanks in advance.
Mark

  • Permission Level Question (Use Client Integration Features)

    Hello All,
I just had a general question on one of the options for permission levels in sharepoint. There's one called "Use Client Integration Features":
Can anybody explain exactly what would be enabled if I enable this option? I know some basic things so far, such as if I enable this, the "Send To->E-mail a link" option would appear for users. However, I'm not exactly sure what else this would
be used for. Any help would  be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

  • Connecting Oracle using SQL Plus in command window through LDAP settings?

    Hi
Just like to know if it is possible to connect Oracle using SQL Plus with connection type as LDAP.
Generally we connect to Oracle in cmd window as
    username/password@DBServiceName
Similarly is it possible to connect Oracle using SQL plus cmd window using LDAP configuration settings.
    Eg:-
If my LDAP server is oid:123:456
    Context is: cn=OracleContext,dc=abcdefgh,dc=com
    DBService is: xyz
    Regards
    jc

Specify the -L command line option to SQL*Plus, i.e.:
    sqlplus -L username/password@db @blah.sql
(this will prevent the second prompt for username/password if the initial login is unsuccessful for any reason, like an invalid password).

  • Using second wireless network for client Hyper-V VMs

    Hello all,
I have a question concerning client Hyper-V on Win8.1 Pro Preview and wirelessly connecting only the VMs. I'm a student at a university and the university wired Ethernet network only allows 2 devices to be registered per student. So for me, those 2 would
be the host OS and my Xbox, which leaves no room for any of my VMs. I need a way to connect my VMs to the wireless network (which has no such limitations) mostly for programming assignments using Linux.
I'm thinking of buying a wireless NIC for my desktop and using that as a second external switch that the VMs will use for connectivity. The host will use the first external switch that currently exists. However, I'm not sure how I can keep the host on the
wired LAN while also installing a wireless NIC only for the VMs. Do I install the NIC, make it an external switch without host access, then join the network? Or do I join the network first then set it up as a virtual switch? Can client versions of Windows
    handle multiple simultaneous NICs?
Also, would the host even need an external switch in this case? I have one since I set up the VMs at home where all machines can use the wired NIC.

Ahh, that's right. check out this post.  This should explain the problem and offer a workable solution.
    Hi,
I remember some articles mentioned Windows Hyper-V does not allow you to bind a wireless network adapter to a virtual machine.
Since the virtual switch in Hyper-V is a “layer-2 switch,” which means that it switches (i.e. determines the route a certain Ethernet packet takes) using the MAC addresses that uniquely identify each (physical and virtual) network adapter card. The MAC address
of the source and destination machines are sent in each Ethernet packet and a layer-2 switch uses this to determine where it should send the incoming packet. An external virtual switch is connected to the external world through the physical NIC. Ethernet packets
from a VM destined for a machine in the external world are sent out through this physical NIC. This means that the physical NIC must be able to carry the traffic from all the VMs connected to this virtual switch, thus implying that the packets flowing through
the physical NIC will contain multiple MAC addresses (one for each VM’s virtual NIC). This is supported on wired physical NICs (by putting the NIC in promiscuous mode), but not supported on wireless NICs since the wireless channel established by the WiFi NIC
and its access point only allows Ethernet packets with the WiFi NIC’s MAC address and nothing else. In other words, Hyper-V couldn’t use WiFi NICs for an external switch if we continued to use the current virtual switch architecture.
To work around this limitation, you can use Microsoft Bridging solution. Create an Internal network, name it “External”, system will create a Virtual Network adapter for it. Create Network Bridge between your WiFi NIC and the Virtual External Network adapter.
Assign External network for your VMs, so they have internet connection.

  • Hyper-V on Windows 8 why SLAT requirement?

When I saw that Hyper-V will be available for client OS I was very excited, and that would be my "No.1" reason to upgrade to Windows 8.
    Reading the Microsoft article
Client Hyper-V and their "declarations" like
"Client Hyper-V provides the same virtualization capabilities as Hyper-V in Windows Server 2012."
    or
"Because Client Hyper-V is the same technology as in Windows Server 2012, IT pros and developers do not need to learn any new tools or commands"
I thougt - Wow, I finnaly would have a single operating system to boot that would be a "desktop operating system" and all the facilities to work with Virtual Machines with server features... but this seems to be my biggest dissapointment
and I could not find any reason for this requirement as long as Windows Server 2012 Hyper-V will work without any problem on my old notebook without this SLAT requirement...
Is there any workaround, patch or any other way I could use the Hyper-V on Windows 8 without using third party software like VMWare or VirtualBox? or I have to continue to use mutiple boot OS'es depending on what I need to test... because I would like to
use an "desktop operating system" but I HAVE to use Hyper-V for my virtual machine environment... :(

I don't care about hypervisor type, I only care about the end objective to running another OS or two effectively responsive and effortless, while runnning a main host OS.
As for hypervisior type of Hyper-V, it's academic, ref
    http://virtualizationreview.com/blogs/everyday-virtualization/2009/06/type-1-and-type-2-hypervisors-explained.aspx
I would have love to see hypervisor in Window 8 for me.  I have long been using microsoft products as much as possible. I believe tehre is still a large base of users like to migrate to W8 from vista or W7 using existing Core 2 Quad PC ( still
    farily powerful and reliable platform)
Now that I resort to Virtualbox, it just means I would not likely be back in microsoft market for future Virtualization need.
I may not count much, but for sake of microsoft, losing entrance customers would not help grow its enterprise nor small business market.

    Hi,
There is couple of helper method to check and validate the SPO credentials in the same solution.
    string userName = GetUserName();
    SecureString pwd = GetPassword();
/* End Program if no Credentials */
    if (string.IsNullOrEmpty(userName) || (pwd == null))

I have had a few virtual machines that built fine... one I’ve been using to test with works about 33% of the time and fails with the same error other times.
I have tweaked the RAM and the # of Virtual Procs and nothing seems to consistently fix it.  Specifically I've disabled dynamic memory, set the RAM to 8GB and the number of procs to
    4. I've also downloaded the SharePoint ISO from multiple sources (MSDN/TechNet/Trial) thinking the installer was possibly corrupt - same issue.
At this point I'm thinking it is either an issue with Hyper-V on Windows 8.1 + SharePoint or else something specific to my hardware but it is terribly hard to troubleshoot an error that
is intermittent. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated!

@Trevor, I'm new to MSI debugging...  now that I have a verbose log, what should I be doing with it?  :)

  • Client Hyper-V "Cannot Connect to Virtual Machine"

I'm trying to run Client Hyper-V on my Windows 8 Pro machine. I was able to successfully install the service, and can create virtual machines and hard disks on my local system. I can even start them, and see boot activity via the preview window in the MMC.
I cannot, however, connect to any machines from the local system: when I do, it hangs on "Connecting to <machinename>" for 30 seconds before it pops up with the dialog:
"Cannot connect to virtual machine. Try to connect again. If the problem persists, contact your system administrator."
Obviously, because this is Client Hyper-V, I am the system administrator, so I scour the Internet to solve my problem. I see solutions related to firewalls, administrative permissions, a few other things, and nothing has worked. I also tried creating
a virtual machine on a Windows 8 Enterprise system (which can connect to it just fine) and export it for the Pro machine to import, and I still cannot connect to it, whether the VM is registered in place or copied to the host.
    Some other notes:
    - None of these systems has an OS installed - two locally created ones either had no boot or booted off a Linux LiveCD, and the exported one attempted to do a PXE boot. Thus, I cannot attempt to link via Remote Desktop since the computers have no names
    - Hyper-V has some other quirks on my system as well: in order to stop a virtual machine, I have to end the vmwp process - which restarts the machine - and then stop it from the console within a few seconds. Otherwise, it hangs in the "Stopping"
state. In addition, none of the buttons on the side of the MMC work, but that occurs over all of MMC.
    - No events show up in the Event log when a connection fails
    - I am an admin on the Pro machine and have permissions to connect to machines and operate the management view

When you checked the event log’s what sources did you check?
Can you verify there are not any relevant error/warning events under the following sources:

    Gathering The Logs
The Analytic logs will be in the analytic folder (you often have to refresh or select another source then analytic again to see them)
The UI trace Logs will be in %temp% (sometime back one directory i.e. %temp% = “C:\Users\taylorb\AppData\Local\Temp\2” for me but the logs are at “C:\Users\taylorb\AppData\Local\Temp”
    Disabling Tracing
To disable Analytic Tracing just right click on the analytic sources and select disable (same as enabling)
To disable UI tracing just delete the “%appdata%\Microsoft\Windows\Hyper-V\Client\1.0\VMClientTrace.config” file.

  • Unable to select 'Use Phone for audio calls' on Cisco Jabber Client 9.6 for Windows

    Hi,
I have recently deployed Cisco Presence Server and integrated with Call Manager 9.1.2. I have successfully deplyed 6700 users on IM & Presence. Some of the users requested for Cisco Jabber with phone control.
I have added CFS client on the Call Manager and associated it with the same extension numbers from their desk phones. I am currently able to make audio and video calls for these specific users. I am currently using Cisco Jabber Client 9.6 for windows. I have users both daisy chained to their desk phones and who are not. Can you please confirm if it does make any difference.
    Problem Faced -
I am not able to use to option use phone for audio calls. The phone comes down with a cross sign on it. At the same time Cisco Jabber by default uses the client and it works as expected.
Can you please let me know if any of you guys have faced a similar issue.
Please let me know if you need any information regading the configuration used.
Looking forward for your valuable comments.
    Thank you.
    Regards,
    Joseph Chirayath.

    Hi Will,
I am attaching the screen shot for the END USER on CUCM 9.X that has been configured on Cisco Jabber.
Please do let me know if you need any further information.
    Thank you.

  • Remote Desktop Connection Server 2012 Clients only using on DC as Logon Server.

I am using Server 2012 and have an RDC Server running on a VM.  Originally I had ordered the licensed version as Essentials was provided to me which does not allow for a full domain environment, which is required for the RDC server.  Anyway, I
used Eval versions to get started, not thinking or realizing that the DC would never be able to get Activated since it is an Eval.  So after 4 days I have finally, loaded Server 2012 on a new VM, promoted to DC, Transferred FSMO roles...DNS is up and
replicating across both DC's. The Eval keeps shutting off and was going to demote it and remove, but whenever it is shutdown the Clients receive a "No Logon Servers are available " error.  I start up the old DC and it works.  I doublechecked
all of the roles have been moved, I checked the RDC gateway, everything points to the same Domain information, but when I check an account using 'CMD set' it shows the old DC as the Logon Server.  Is there something I am missing in the RD Gateway or somewhere
else.  Is there a way to force it to use the new DC?   I have tried setting the options in remote desktop connection to use a particular TS Gateway setting and it doesnt seem to work.   Can someone please help me think about this and offer a
suggestion or let me know if you need more info.  I can figure nothing else out at this point.
    Thanks so much in Advance.
    -T

it sounds like your clients / rdc servers may still be pointing to the old DC for DNS.
Can you check you have updated DNS on the clients to talk to your new domain controller.

Help keep the forums tidy, if this has helped please mark it as an answer
The new DC is the only DNS server listed on the RDC Server and is the only DNS listed for the clients other than the gateway which have as a secondary.  If I change the static on the old DC I cannot login, as soon as I put it back, I can login and it
shows that DC as the logon server.
I did a simple recursive test on both DNS servers....The new Domain Controller passes, the Old One which I am trying to remove, does not.
I will reply with any other updates as I continue to look into this and thanks for the suggestions.
So I also Pinged the domain from the RDC Server as suggested and it replies back with the old DC IP.
    Not sure why.

  • What Windows 7 version is used for Hyper-V vdi?

    Hi,
what Windows 7 version is used for Hyper-V pooled and static vdi?
Don't think that using FULL W7 OS is practical in both scenarios.
What would be the best choice?
    Thanks

Is it possible to have a phone line connected to a Mac Mini (OS X10.8.2) so you can use your computer with Parallels (Windows xp) to dial into a modem to download data being collected and stored at the remote location?

Hi, do you mean a real Dial-up Modem as in the old days?
As I recall, the Apple USB Modem won't work in 64 bit OSes, but there are others that will, I think this is one of them...
    http://www.zoomtel.com/products/dial_up_external_usb.html
Or is the Modem on the other end Cable/DSL/FiberOptic?
