Connectivity to remote Essbase servers.... pc anywhere my best choice?

The database has been deleted. The problem was the database was not loaded. If you go to Application Settings, there is a selection "allow database to start". Since this was not in use since 4/29, I unchecked this item. If the app does not start, I don't have to worry about using ram resources.

Hi,
That is the path to the source files where configuration manager will copy the content from to the ContentLibrary on the Primary Site server. So in this case the files will be copied twice over the wan once to the SCCM Primary site server and then back
to the DP again.
What you could do is use a prestage package and create that application in configuration manager and then in the console create a prestage package that you can copy and import on the remote DP.

  • CS3 / CS4 connection to remote/testing servers times out.

    Hello,
    I have 2 questions:
    1. Can DreamWeaver be configured to bind once for multiple ldap authentication transactions?
    2. Can DreamWeaver be configured to increase it's timeout when connecting to remote/testing servers?
    Details below ...
    ============
    Setup
Client: DW CS3/4 clients on WIN XP
    Server: Suse Linux 2.6 (SP3)
Protocol: WebDAV via apache 2.2, LDAP authentication
    Problem description
Dreamweaver Clients fail to connect to remote/testing servers during peak usage hours.
    Analysis
Connecting to the remote/testing servers requires approximately 900 database transactions to test user privileges for content, simplified as the following:
    900 x [ bind + lookup + unbind ]
During peak hours, this process can sometimes take upwards of 30 seconds to complete.  In these cases, Dreamweaver times out (at approximately 40 seconds) and then user must try the process again.
    Possibe Solutions
    a) Increase cache size in apache.
This has been done, but we have a large client base, and with 900 look-ups per user, we hit the ceiling of an acceptable cahce size.  This solution does not work for us.
    b) Change DreamWeaver authentication to only bind once.
Binding 900 times for 900 separate lookups is wasteful.  Can DreamWeaver be configured to bind once and have multiple transactions?
    [ bind + [ 900 x lookup ] + unbind ]
    c) Change DreamWeaver timeout value
Currently DreamWeaver times out on connection attempts at about 30-40 seconds.  Can DreamWeaver be configured to timeout at a different value?
    ============

Is the host name in maxl the same name as the name in the easconsole link? do i need to set up anything (tnsnames.ora) for maxl to work?
    Thanks in advance.

The essbase server name is ts119licalnn, it is shown under essbase servers in EAS.
By not using the default Essbase node 'EssbaseCluster-1', it has revealed the port number EAS uses to connect to essbase, in this instance, 1443.
The problem was that I did not have the correct port number, is there an easier way of finding the correct port number?

The CAS configuration was idential across all servers.  The F5 is doing SSL offloading so it communicates to the CAS via HTTP.
My network team made some configuration changes on the F5 which resolved the issue as the F5 was not properly routing traffic.

  • Finder not connecting to remote servers and fail to reboot

I've posted this in the leopard section, but I think this is also an issue on a snow leopard box as well...
I'm running several Mac minis, all relatively up to date (I don't update the day updates come out, usually waiting a week or so to see how well it's accepted across the community).
I have this issue occasionally where the Mac will fail to connect to remote windows boxes. It seems to be fine for other apple devices, but I just see the "connecting" message without it ever getting anywhere. I can't really seem to nut out when in particular that it happens.
What I usually do find it that when it dies happen, a reboot of the machine in question (the Mac, not the windows box) resolves the issue. Relaunching the finder does not fix the problem. If I try and manually restart the connection (Go--> connect to server) the little dialog box comes up, but never connects. What makes it worse it never fails either.
Usually once this happens I can not soft restart the computer. ie selecting reboot or shutdown brings me to a pale blue screen with the "waiting" animated circle in the middle if the screen. I have left this for an entire evening, it will not reboot, in the end I have to hold the power off and force it off. I've just dine some googling on these issues and the whole time 10-15 minutes worth, I am still just seeing this animated "loading/waiting" spinning piece of *^}]#%% that tells me nothing
    Any ideas?

Can you check your firewall settings on Red Hat Machine and make sure port 8134 is open as this is default port on which Apache which comes with FMS listens.
But if you think i did not get your question right , please let me know.

  • Preview Data in EAS across different essbase Servers

    Hello All,
We are on 11.1.2.3 of EPM. In our Prod EAS I have Signed in using my AD user ID and added the two(one prod, one dev) essbase servers to the list of essbase servers. I was able to successfully add the two essbase servers. Now when I preview data on cube in dev it gives me the error "Cannot connect to olap service. Cannot connect to Essbase Server. Error: Essbase Error(1051293): Login fails due to invalid login credentials". This cannot be true because I would not be able to expand the essbase servers list and drill down to the database in order to preview it if the credentials were wrong. Also I am able to see the outlines and Calc scripts just fine. I am able to preview data on the prod cube just fine.
Now, The same happens when I try to preview data in prod essbase cube when coming from Dev EAS. Which means am able to preview data only on dev essbase server cubes when coming from dev EAS and when I try to preview data on a prod cube when coming from Dev EAS i get the same invalid login credentials error.
Could someone please help me understand if this is a bug or if this is how they intended it to work? Because we just upgraded from 11.1.1.4 and we were able to preview data across any essbase server no matter which EAS service we used.
No SSL or Single Sign-on were used. Just active directory credentials. It happens only with an AD ID and not with a native directory ID. Please suggest on how this can be fixed.
    Thanks,
    Ted.

I logged this with Oracle and the following is their response copy/pasted
The issue which you have reported in this SR is a desired behavior. This behavior has been seen in latest versions only 11.1.2.x.
In earlier version we can preview the data of any Essbase server added to any eas console.
But form 11.1.2.x environment this behaviour has been changed.
We did checked with development team on this earlier, and according to development team its a behavior by design.
As dev environment and Prod environment have different registries , the preview data would work if Dev Essbase server added to Dev EAS only. like same holds good for prod or test environments.
As same issue has been reported earlier , we form support has raised a bug with development team after reproducing the issue .
But development team did not accept this as bug as this behavior was by design .
So later we changed this bug to a enchantment request with development team to change this behavior.
Bug 14622693 - PREVIEW DATA ON REMOTE ESSBASE HOST FAIL WHEN CONNECTED FROM EAS
If this enhancement requested gets approved by development team ,Then it would be incorporated in future release.
    Thanks,
    Ted.

  • Is it possible to share an ODBC.INI across Essbase servers?

    h5. Summary
Our planned production environment may have as many as 15 Essbase servers so it would be useful if the odbc.ini file could be maintained centrally. Is this possible?
    h5. Problem
The servers are implemented as a high availability cluster. The infrastructure team telll me that a side-effect of this is that the Essbase install builds the server node name into the path for EPM_ORACLE_HOME. Because this path has to be hard-coded in the odbc.ini Driver specification (see below) this apparently forces you to maintain a separate odbc.ini for each Essbase server.
    +Driver=/ htesb1 /u03/Oracle/Middleware/EPMSystem11R1/common/ODBC-64/Merant/6.0/lib/ARora24.so+
    h5. Requirement
As part of the landscape we will have an OCFS shared file system mounted across all the Essbase servers. What I'd like to be able to do is place a single odbc.ini file on this file system and for that file to be used by all the Essbase nodes. I've tried using an environment variable in the Driver path specification. I've also tried using a symbolic link.
Does anybody know of a way to avoid the hard-coded paths in the odbc.ini?
    h5. Alternative
Another possibility is to use OCI instead though I saw in another thread that this doesn't work with parallel loads. Assuming this problem can be got around it means that the connection information will be consistent regardless of the essbase server and the odbc.ini maintenance problem then goes away. The catch is that the connection information is then embedded in the rules file meaning that we have to update same whenever they are moved between environments (e.g. dev to test) and whenever an environment's connection details change. I tried using substitution variables but these only apply to ODBC connection names. Does anyone know if there is some way to parameterise the OCI connection information?
    h5. Versions
    Essbase Release 11.1.2 (ESB11.1.2.1.102B147)
    Linux version 2.6.32.12-0.7-default (geeko@buildhost) (gcc version 4.3.4 [gcc-4_3-branch revision 152973] (SUSE Linux) ) #1 SMP 2010-05-20 11:14:20 +0200 64 bit

  • 2 Essbase Servers On Same UNIX Server

Hi.I installed 2 Essbase Servers on the same UNIX Server. Both Essbase Servers work but that's when I want to point to 2nd Essbase Server for Planning and Business Rules that it's more difficult. In fact, in Essbase Administration Services, I managed to add 2nd Essbase Server indicating port it uses but with Planning and Business Rules the "server_name:port" style entry doesn't match. Planning and Business Rules don't understand these entries.I tried in other manner with a NODENAME in ESSBASE.cfg, but no result either. So, is there anyone who can suggest me something or anyone who managed this case?Best regards.Rzedinho,New HDN Member.

The only way that you can connect to the second server is to use client software that supports providing a port at login. We are doing this, but you have to have the latest versions of reports, planning, etc. If you have these versions of software, then all you have to do to connect is give it a string like: EssbaseServer2:2784

  • Unable to Obtain a Connection to Hyperion Essbase from Planning Application

    Dear All,
    I have installed FDM+Foundation+HFM+Essbase+Planning 11.1.1.3 (Tomcat)
I have stacked with the following problem:
when I try to open my data form, I am getting
“Unable to obtain a connection to Hyperion Essbase. If this problem persists, please contact your administrator”
Validate Database Connection & Validate Essbase Connection are successful throw Manage Data Source menu
    Essbase user has admin privileges
In EAS console I can make myself sure, that my application is running
Data Form is valid (verified in Preview screen in Data Form wizard)
Can somebody help me with it?
    Best Regards,
    Siarhei

    Thanks, John
    Summary
    Symptoms
When attempting to connect to Hyperion Planning as the admin user, the following error occurs:
Unable to obtain a connection to Hyperion Essbase. If the problem persists, please contact your administrator'
    Cause
Hyperion Planning web accesses the application by making a connection to the Planning metadata in the relational repository (via Relational repository settings) and also to Essbase via the datasource settings.
Any Essbase connection issues indicate problems with the Essbase settings in the datasource or are related to the Essbase server.
    Solution
    - Edit the datasource via the Configuration Utility.
    - Test the Essbase connection and make sure that the user used to make the connection is valid and has admin rights to Essbase.
    - Restart the Hyperion Planning service once the Essbase user has been given the correct access rights.
    - Login to the Essbase Administration Services (EAS) console and right click on the Essbase server name node -> Refresh security from Shared Services
    - Expand the applications node (under the Essbase server name node) and check that there is an application with exactly the same name as the Planning application.
Note: Go to section 'manually recreating a Planning application in Hyperion Essbase, if the Planning application is missing in the above step.
    - Login to the application in Hyperion Planning web.
Manually recreating a Planning application in Essbase:
    - Login to the EAS console as admin (the Essbase user used by admin must have Essbase administrator rights)
    - Go to Essbase servers -> your Essbase server name -> right click on applications -> Create application -> Using Block Storage and enter the exact Hyperion Planning Application name then click on ok.
Note: The above step will only create the application shell without the databases.
    - Login to the application in Hyperion Planning web as admin and go to Administration menu -> Manage Database -> select database and filters (to create filter access to Essbase) and Refresh (refresh will also recreate the databases if they don't exist)

  • HTTP Response :500 unable to connect to remote system.

    Hi,
I am doing proxy-xi-file scenario, where i am getting this error in sxmb_moni in R/3.
The error reads with red flag:
HTTP Response :500 unable to connect to remote system.
Please  tell me what can be the reason.

    Snehal,
Error: The error message 503 Service unavailable Application stopped! is displayed.
Description: The server is currently unable to handle the request due to a temporary overloading or maintenance of the server. The implication is that this is a temporary condition which will be alleviated after some delay. If known, the length of the delay MAY be indicated in a Retry-After header. If no Retry-After is given, the client SHOULD handle the response as it would for a 500 response.
Note: The existence of the 503 status code does not imply that a server must use it when becoming overloaded. Some servers may wish to simply refuse the connection.
Possible Tips: Because of J2EE application com.sap.aii.af.ms.app not active
    • Try to (re)start the application using the Visual Administrator Choose Server --> Services --> Deploy --> View on Application or restart the J2EE engine
    • The problem is that not all J2EE services can be started by the J2EE. i.e Start the Visual Administrator and select Server->Services->Deploy in the tree on the left. On the right-hand side, choose the Runtime tab page. You see a tree in the right window with all applications if you select the APPLICATION radio button. Check if they are running, otherwise choose Start. Usually the J2EE engine starts all services automatically.

  • SIU "Apply system configuration settings" and Connect computers to directory servers

    Good morning/Afternoon/Evening everyone.
I've currently been studying/researching imaging with OSX 10.9 server, using the SIU.  As I'm going through it, one option that is appealing to me, is the "COnnect computers to directory servers:" option under the Apply System configuration settings workflow action.
The issue is that when click on the + to add a server, it only comes up with Localhost (127.0.0.1) and won't give me the option to point to my OD server for binding.  Is there a way to change this, or some other option I am missing?
Also, I'm at a loss to find any setting in Profile manager that will enable/turn on "Remote management" for ARD and SSH.

Thank you for that link, it is insightful.  So let me throw this into the mix:
When it comes to ARD, we have to have a local user on the local machine, in order to login, correct? It won't allow us to have OD authenticated admins/users login to the client machine. Is that correct?
If that is the scenario, then how are we to lock down a situation where we are imaging multiple macs and have the potential to have admins changing or leaving, and a need to reset local machine admin credentials. Obviously we aren't going to do this individually per machine. This would also need to be done via scripting (or ARD CLI to our enterprise), but then each image needs to be updated or all new machines need to be touched after image/install.
Am I thinking of this the correct way?
Also, is it possible to create an image that has no local user at all, or is that just nonsense?

  • Remote Collection Servers "Unavailable"

I have a customer that has multiple remote collection servers that have
been installed on "administration" pc's at remote sites. These pc's are
also used by other admins (compounding the issue). The account that was
used to install ZAM7.5 (inventory only) also has the static drive map to
the filestore. When that user gets logged off...that static map gets
killed and the colsvrcore.exe and tasksvrcore.exe processes die and the
task and collection servers go "unavailable". Is there any way that
anyone knows of to make that persistant connection back to the filestore
some other way besides a drive map?
Thanks in advance for your help!!

On those remote servers, configure the filestore path as a UNC path rather
than a mapped drive letter. That way it will not be disconnected by a
Windows logoff by the interactive user. (look under the Tally Systems
    registry key under HKLM)
This is how I have always configured it on remote servers (including XP
workstations) and have not seen any issues. I only use a mapped drive for
user-level controlled access to the file store on PCs that only run the
    ZAM Manager.
This works in an AD environment, where I'm guessing the computer account
can have rights to the file store (whether this is default in AD or set up
by the ZAM install routine I don't know - it has always just worked for me
without needing specific configuration, so I have not looked into how/why)
If these PCs are not in AD: The Task and Collection Servers run as Windows
Service, have you tried setting them to start using a local user account
(instead of localsystem)? The account will need matching
username/password on the server hosting the file store, plus R/W rights to
    the file store share.

  • Usr/sbin/named trying to connect to hundreds of servers

Help, Mac mini with OS X server 2.2.1, ML 10.8.4
I noticed my Internet connect was extremely slow so I started investigating.  LAN is good, Internet speeds are horrible. Little snitch shows "usr/sbin/named" is trying to connect to hundreds of servers.  WHAT THE HECK IS IT AND HOW DO I STOP IT?
Internet is useless if I allow these connections....

My reply assumes that your servers are exposed to the Internet, and being used in a DDoS.   A NAT firewall and any better-grade gateway, for instance, will block these attacks by default.  (It is possible to explicitly allow TCP or UDP 53 traffic through most of these devices, however.  It's also possible that infested systems located behind the firewall for DDoS, though that's less common.)
Please use Shields Up or another port scanner, and find out what ports you have open and visible to the 'net.
I do not know of a way to selectively disable DNS access to the ports on recent OS X Server versions using the standard tools, short of an external firewall; to allow local access, but block remote access.  (There are ways to do this, but not GUI-based.  Again, this assumes the DNS server is exposed to the 'net.)
Figuring out what happened usually involves viewing the DNS log files, to determine whether the DNS server is malfunctioning (or is possibly being attacked), and potentially also monitoring the network traffic.
