  • Airport Extreme issue connecting through usb to freeagent external hdd

I have a brand new 15"MacBook Pro and am using an Airport Extreme for wireless internet throughout my house. That part of the system seems to work fine. My problem is that I want to connect both my printer and FreeAgent hdd to be accesses through my wireless network. When I plug in a 4 port hub everything seems fine (green light). When I plug in the Free Agent hdd the light immediately turns to blinking amber. In airport utility the hdd does not show up but I get a message which says "disk needs repair". If I plug the hdd directly into my MacBook I can can see it, read from it and write to it fine. I can't find anything that indicates that the hdd wouldn't be compatible with the Airport Extreme. Help!

You can access the AirPort Disk via normal file-sharing connection options, such as selecting the server from any Finder window’s sidebar in the Shared section. AirPort Disk uses two standard methods: AFP (for Macs) and Samba (for Windows or Linux).
Leopard accesses AirPort Disks through the Finder, just like any other network volume. Open any Finder window, and look in the sidebar for a list of servers in the Shared section. You should find your AEBSn.
To mount an AirPort Disk volume, follow these steps:
    1. Select the AEBSn in the Sharing section of the sidebar.
    2. To connect as a Guest user, you need take no more steps; To use a named account, click the Connect As button in the upper right and enter your credentials.
    3. Double click a volume that’s shown to mount it on your system.
For both Windows XP and Vista, open the network browser by double-clicking Network on the Desktop. The base station name should appear in the Network browser.

  • How do you connect a usb printer and usb external hard drive to the airport extreme, as it only has one usb port?

I'm thinking about upgrading my old 802.11g router for a new airport extreme. Can it connect to a usb printer and external hard drive at the same time and acutally work. It only has one usb port on the back.
    thank you!

To add multiple USB printers and/or HDDs, you just first need to connect a USB hub (powered prefereably) to the AirPort's USB port, and then, add the USB devices to the hub.

You control the camera for Skype from within Skype, so  Skype must be running to running to make video work.

  • How to use iPad (4th gen) to edit with iMovie - but using an external source such as a USB stick or external USB hard drive

Want to use my iPad (4th gen) to edit a movie using iMovie - easy enough if the movie file is on the iPad - but what if it's too large - can I keep the source file on a USB stick or external USB hard drive and edit from there?  How can you do this?

You can't export any type of file using the camera connection kit, so a USB flash drive or SD card won't work.
There are some wireless external hard drives that can be used with the iPad.
The Kingston Wi-Drive, which costs $50 for the 16 Gigabyte, and then $30 more for every 16 gigs more. It works by you turning it on and then accessing the files on it from an app that you download on your iDevice. You can access music, movies, and other stuff. No connections or anything, it works like a WiFi connection, you connect to it from the setting on the iPad under wireless networks.
Then there is the Seagate GoFlex, which some would recommend over the Wi-Drive. But this one costs $199 and had 500 Gigabytes of storage. It works the sameway as the Kingston: no wires, runs over its wireless connection. You can actually fit up to 300 HD movies on it.
    Another option:
Expand your iPad's storage capacity with HyperDrive

  • [Forum FAQ] Removable media and external HDD

    Scenario
There are two conceptions about which we would have confusion in some particular scenarios: removable media and external HDD. Here are two examples:
If you need to make a USB storage device perform AutoRun, the device must not be marked as a removable media device and the device must contain an Autorun.inf file and a startup application.
Answer File Search on removable read/write media.
    Definition and Research
The definition of the removable media and external HDD is shown below:
The removable media device setting is a flag contained within the SCSI Inquiry Data response to the SCSI Inquiry command. Bit 7 of byte 1 (indexed from 0) is the Removable Media Bit (RMB). An RMB set to zero indicates that the device is not a removable
media device. An RMB of one indicates that the device is a removable media device. Drivers obtain this information by using the StorageDeviceProperty request.
External HDDs typically connect via USB; variants using USB interface generally have slower data transfer rates when compared to internally mounted hard drives connected through SATA.
That is, the removable media has a device property attach itself, from the results on Linux and Windows OS, we can see the difference between removable media and
    generic external disk:
Here are the outputs of dmesg log on Linux OS:
sd 10:0:0:0: [sdb] Attached SCSI disk
    (generic external disk)
sd 2:0:0:0:   [sdb] Attached SCSI removable disk
    (USB flash drive)
Here is the output on Windows OS:
We use following command to get the media type of physical drive:
    Get-WmiObject -Class Win32_DiskDrive | Format-Table Name,Model, MediaType
    Conclusion
From the device’s property, we cannot say that external device is equal to removable media totally. Removable media is associated with the RMB flag, of course, RMB is embedded in device itself.
Now, back to our common issue, when you supply an answer file on a USB external HDD, it would not recognize your device as a removable media, because the StorageDeviceProperty gets value 0 of RMB to indicate this is not a removable media. In this situation,
supply an answer file on a USB flash drive (UFD) or floppy disk would fix this issue.

Ive had it on my Ibook before and then moved it to the HDD because of Space Shortage, and then just added as ive aquired more music. Idon't Really Remeber but i think it worked before without any hiccups. oh well otherwise i can just delete those files because theyre only single files here and there. but its quite irritating because they don't seem to have any kind of corruption.

  • Is it better to daisy chain an apogee duet and external hdd or...

...setup an audio interface and external hdd to two separate bus ports? I ask because I going to be purchasing gear to set up my first home recording studio and I am torn between the MacBook Pro 15" and 17". The 17" comes with an Express Card slot (which I could use to utilize more bus ports), but is less portable and a little more expensive. The 15" is ideal in size, but lacks two firewire ports and Express Card possibilities. I know firewire is a must for a 7200 rpm external drive, but I have read very negative reviews about USB powered audio interfaces. Is daisy chaining a good idea? Are USB as bad as I've come to understand in terms of clarity and quality? Is the 17" my best option? I am looking at a starter's interface, like an Apogee Duet. The new Apogee One looks intriguing, but again, it is USB.

+1 for daisy-chaining Duet to Glyph. For audio work the 17" is the best option these days. The ExpressCard slot is invaluable for using Universal Audio plugins or powering an additional firewire device above and beyond the audio interface/hard drive, such as the Focusrite Liquid Mix.

  • Do you have to down load from the internet using apple's recover partition, every time you need to do a clean install? or can you make a copy of Mt Lion onto a USB stick and install off that?

Do you have to down load Mountain Lion from the internet every time you need to do a clean install? or can you make a copy of Mt Lion onto a USB stick and install off that?
    Thanks

Yes you can make a USB stick of Lion or Mt Lion. Use Lion Disk Maker after you download OS X from the internet.
For Lion you have to point the download to an external drive and watch when it completes and reboots the system to start the install disconnect the external. If you bought Mt Lion from the Mac App Store then you can download it from there and just cancel the install when it comes up on the desktop.
If you are downloading from the Recovery HD or from the Online Internet Recovery system, slightly different then the built in Recovery HD, then again you need to point it to an external drive and discoonect that drive when the system reboots to start the real install.
Then use Lion disk maker to create either a DVD disc or USB thumb of the install files.

  • How to share my mac and external hdd?

    Hey
    I was wondering about something.
I have a mac at home, with an external HDD connected. Is there some way that i can get access to the mac HDD and external HDD through the web from another computer (probably a PC)? The thing is that i often can't bring my MacBook with me, and therefore has to access some files from remote access. I have had a look on several guides, but they don't solve the problem, as i don't have the "FTP-sharing" tab in System Preferences -> Sharing.
Any way to solve this? Btw, my mac is connected to a pretty fast broadband, so the connection is no problem.
    Greetings
    Sixmax

  • USB 3.0 port not recognising USB 3.0 external HDD

My HP Envy 14 Spectre does not recognise my new USB 3.0 external HHD when I plug it into the USB 3.0 port. I'm using Win 7 64-bit.  I've only recently purchased this ultrabook and today was the first time for me to plug in a USB 3.0 external HDD (which works fine when I plug it in the other port which is the USB 2.0 port).

Plug the stick and/or card into the appropriate slots on the side of your Air. Do you see icons for the devices appear on the desktop? Click into them to see what files are there.

  • Is it possible to make OSX see the internal and external HDD's as one large drive?

Is it possible to make OSX see the internal and external HDD's as one large drive? For instance, hypothetically, could I have a Mac Mini Server with 2TB of internal storage and 2 external 4TB Thunderbolt HDD's, and make the OS see them all as one large 10TB drive?

Yes it is possible to do this, but this is not recommended since a disconnection of the external drives would lead to a destabilized system. Its best to do this only with internal drives, or secondarily with only external drives that are set up separately from the boot drive.
However, if you do wish to do this then you can combine any local set of volumes into one large "spanned" hard drive using Apple's CoreStorage volume management service. It does take a few steps to set up and requires use of the Terminal and Disk Utility. Here is a tutorial on how to do this: http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-57550128-263/how-to-make-a-custom-corestora ge-drive-in-os-x/

  • I copied mp3 files from a usb stick and they appear in music folder in finder and on iPhone/ipad with itunes match but not in iTunes?

I copied mp3 files from a usb stick and they appear in finder in my itunes media/music folder and on my iphone and ipad with itunes match but not in the itunes library?

Not working.  And it didn't used to be a problem.  iTunes can find the songs with Search Library, but doesn't show in any index (by song, artist or album).  Finding with Search Library offers to play or add to Up Next, but neither actually does anything.  Using File-Add to Library does nothing as well.  The only way I can get the new files to play is to find in Finder and Open with iTunes.
I suspect Apple is trying to drive me to buy from iTunes store.  Not gonna happen.  If they don't fix this, I'll find another player.
This worked fine before OSX 10.8.
