Connector specific error - blackberry bold 9790 - desktop software version 6.1 and outlook 2010

Hi there
I've recently upgraded my business partners' outlook from 2007 to 2010.  In doing so we've had a corrupt profile which we have had to delete and then replace with a new one.  In doing so his outlook started working again but now his blackberry isn't synching the calendar entries.
Here's the basics:
- Bberry model - Bold 9790
- Bberry operating system - Blackberry's latest (7.1 I think)
- Blackberry desktop software 6.1 - this is intentional as we have found in the newer version of hte desktop software that we cannot map our teamsite calendar from outlook and sync the entries
- Outlook version 2010
- Calendars we are trying to sync are a personal one from a pst folder and a teamsite one from sharepoint linked to our microsoft exchange set up.
The error we are getting is a 'connector specific error'
I have worked with him to create the PTtrace.log and tif.log files.  I've gotten reams of pages; but the errors on todays date (when the problem began) have come up with error 4238, 113, and 12.  We have tried un-installing and re-installing 6.1 as well and no luck.  We have re-set the configuration setup and re-mapped folders; chosen the new outlook profile, etc and still keep getting same error.
I'm now starting to think that there is a problem with the mapi profile as a start and wonder if outlook needs to repair itself or whether we are getting the error because of a duplicate entry somewhere (though if you asked me to tell you where from the logs I couldn't identify it).
I'm litterally tearing my hair out because my poor business partner lives and dies by his blackberry.  Really want to try to get this resolved; but need some help and suggestions as I've tried most of the main causes and fixes.
Any assistance would really be appreciated so I can put him and myself out of our misery.
Thanks in advance.
Cel

Hi and Welcome to the Community...apologies for the delayed reply...hopefully you already have this resolved, but just in case!
Thank you for the thorough report...that helps tremendously. Sadly, though, none of the errors you listed reveal anything useful when I search the public KBs...perhaps you will be more lucky

Even though it sounds like you may have done all or part of this, I encourage you to research the process in this thread:

It starts with a process for cleanly starting over, and there is some discussion, and there is also a post (15) with links to older Desktop Software versions, if those are needed. Note that this is not, by any means, guaranteed to work...but it has worked for many to resolve issues they are having.
Your suspicion about the MAPI Profile may well be warranted, in which case this KB might be useful.

  • Receiving "Connector Specific Error" When trying to Sync 8310 w/ Desktop Manager

I've had my phone for over a year, and never had any issues until this morning, in the middle of syncronizing (when it was trying to read the contents of my device calendar), it just stops, and says "Connector Specific Error" and the syncronization ends. I tried updating my software to the newest version, because I was using 4.5, but even after I removed 4.5, and installed 4.7, I got the same error.
    HELP!!!

According to this KB article, one of the databases (calendar, address book, tasks, memopad) being synced has gotten corrupted.
    http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB15294
Which one does it stop syncing on?
You probably will have to end up clearing the database. First use the Backup and Restore utility to make a complete backup of your data. Then go into Backup and Restore | Advanced. Select the database that's corrupt on the right side and hit the Clear button. Doing so will erase all the entries in that database.
Try doing a sync afterwards and see if it goes through ok.

  • Blackberry Bold 9900 OS software update from version 7.0.0 to version 7.1.0

    Helo Everyone
I tried to upgrade my Blackberry Bold 9900 device software from version 7.0.0 to version 7.1.0 but having difficulties. I tried using the Blackberry Desktop Manager but there was no version 7.1.0 listed among the available updates. Even when I tried to do it directly via the Blackberry official website, Version 7.1.0 was also not listed. Finally I tried to do the update with my phone directly by accessing: Options>Device>Software Updates.
It displayed my Current Version of 7.0.0 Bundle 2406 and an available version 7.1.0 Bundle 1149. But when I Clicked Perform Update to download the new version it showed preparing to download but then displayed an error message such as "The download cannot continue because your device cannot connect to the update server using any of the following methods:Wi-Fi".
Meanwhile, I did not perform the upgrade with Wi-Fi because I have an active blackberry data subscrip of 2GB from my mobile network provider.
Please I need help on how to perform the upgrade from version 7.0.0 to version 7.1.0 with the latest Bundle.
Thank you all as i await your kind solution.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
The simplest way is to, on a PC (you cannot do this on MAC):
    1) Make sure you have a current and complete backup of your BB...you can find complete instructions via the link in my auto-sig below.
    2) Uninstall, from your PC, any BB OS packages
    3) Make sure you have the BB Desktop Software already installed
    http://us.blackberry.com/software/desktop.html
    4) Download and install, to your PC, the BB OS package you desire:
    http://us.blackberry.com/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
It is sorted first by carrier -- so if all you want are the OS levels your carrier supports, your search will be quick. However, some carriers are much slower than others to release updates. To truly seek out the most up-to-date OS package for your BB, you must dig through and find all carriers that support your specific model BB, and then compare the OS levels that they support.
    5) Delete, on your PC, all copies of VENDOR.XML...there will be at least one, and perhaps 2, and they will be located in or similarly to (it changes based on your Windows version) these folders:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
    C:\Users\(your Windows UserName)\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML
6a) For changing your installed BB OS level (upgrade or downgrade), you can launch the Desktop Software and connect your BB...the software should offer you the OS package you installed to your PC.
6b) Or, for reloading your currently installed BB OS level as well as for changing it, bypass the Desktop Software and use LOADER.EXE directly, by proceeding to step 2 in this process:
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-Device-Software/How-To-Reload-Your-Operating-Syste...
Note that while written for "reload" and the Storm, it can be used to upgrade, downgrade, or reload any BB device model -- it all depends on the OS package you download and install to your PC.
If, during the processes of 6a or 6b, your BB presents a "507" error, simply unplug the USB cord from the BB and re-insert it...don't do anything else...this should allow the install to continue.
If you are on MAC, you are limited to only your carriers sanctioned OS packages...but can still use any levels that they currently sanction. See this procedure:
KB19915How to perform a clean reload of BlackBerry smartphone application software using BlackBerry Desktop Software

  • Problems synching Calendar entries..Negative Duration Error, Connector Specific Error...

We've got 9 new Blackberry 8110 handsets and one of them is giving us problems when it tries to synch Tasks from Outlook.
In particular if the user say changes a Due Date on a Task entry in Outlook when he connects the phone and it begins to synch he gets the following message:
"The appointment or task record you are about to save has negative duration. Please check start/end date/times"
I've checked the start/end dates for the task in Outlook and they are there - Tasks don't have durations.
In addition at the end of the synch process it gives the following error:
"connector specific error" with just an Ok button to click on.
this ends up with the tasks all messed up on both devices and totally not sync'd.
I've tried the obvious things - different usb cable, deleting the Tasks database from the desktop software advanced options and re-synching.
It synch's ok the first time on an empty phone database but if you make any changes to Outlook it messes it up.
thanks in advance for any help!

    The connector specific error:
    http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=KB15294&sliceId=SAL_Pub...
On tasks check if the BB Tasks are setup in a category; TASKS/MENUKEY/FILTER
Also go to OPTIONS/VIEWS/SORT BY select date. Make sure all tasks that are in progress or waiting have valid dates.
Make sure the tasks are setup up in Outlook the same way.

  • Connector Specific Error

I am trying to sync with my Outlook and I keep getting an error that says "Connector specific error"  I get this same error using the USB cable and my bluetooth.  Can someone please help?!

I had the same issue but found this worked perfectly:
How to Clear/Delete all your Address/Calendar items at once
From BlackBerryFAQIf you are having errors in your Calendar or Address Book on your BlackBerry, and you wish to delete the entire Calendar (or Address Book) database on your BlackBerry, follow the directions below. Make certain you have a good copy of your Calendar or Contacts elsewhere, as this procedure will complete delete ALL Calendar entries and/or Address Book entries on your BlackBerry.
    1. Open Desktop Manager on your PC.
    2. Open up Backup/Restore > Advanced.
    3. From Advanced you'll see a split pane screen. The left pain is what is going to be backed up from your device and the right is a list of the currently existing databases.
    3. Highlight on the right side your Address Book database (or your Calendar database) and click the arrow in the middle pointing to the left. This will copy the information over and prepare it for back-up.
    4. Once the back-up has completed, hit the Clear button at the bottom to erase and clean out the entire address book database (or Calendar database).
    5. After it's finished, it will ask you if you want to save the back-up you've created, say yes and check the device to make sure the address book has properly cleared out. Now, resync the necessary contact information and you should be set to go.

  • Problems synchronization Blackberry desktop software version 6.0.0.40

Today I installed the latest version of the Blackberry desktop software, 6.0.0.40 on my desktop, latest MS Vista version. After I connected my Blackberry bold 9000 via USB, the system automatically made a backup. That's fine ofcourse. But when I want to verify the synchronization parameters, the system gives an "unknown error" and don't allow me to change the parameters because of that error. I can't click one of the four given synchronization aps, the system doesn't allow it and comes with the error mentioned before. I checked for a newer version of the desktop software, but I have the latest version.
Who can give me a good advice to solve this?
    Bernard, Holland, Europe.

I have the same problem and am still waiting on a solution from RIM , and may end up switching form Blackberry because of it. I use win 7, latest DM6, BBerry Tour with latest Verizon updates, and Outlook 2010. I have un-installed and reinstalled DM6 multiple times, using every clean un-install protocol here. I STILL get "Intellysinc error" when I try to change the sync parameters as you've said, crashing DM6. I haven't been able to sync since at least May- it is ABSURD THAT RIM DOESTN CARE ABOUT BUSINESS USERS anymore, leaving us with outlook 2010 high and dry all these months. I will be switching to Droid in a week if RIM doesn't solve this !

  • Bold 9930 Desktop Software !!##@$%

Brand-new Bold.  Plugged it in to my PC and the Desktop software loaded; worked perfectly for about a week.  Then, it refused to sync because of some appointment on my calendar from 2011.  I searched and couldn't find any such appointment.  Decided what I need to do was delete the software and start over.  Clearly the wrong move, since now I am unable to download the software no matter how hard I try.  Help, anyone?

If anything fails, do please try to be explicit...e.g., from "I am unable to download the software no matter how hard I try", there actually is very little information from which to properly understand what is going on. Exactly what you try, exactly what happens, etc. are usually much more useful for others to understand from.
