Conomical instructor-led online course

I have a query on which online course should be taken which is most economical to take for Oracle Database 10g Administrator Certified Master certification. I went through the link,
http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=244#3
and have seen the following list of courses:-
Oracle Database 10g: Introduction to SQL
Oracle Database 10g: Develop PL/SQL Program Units
Oracle Database 10g: Administration Workshop I
Oracle Database 10g: Administration Workshop I Ed 3 LVC
Oracle Database 10g: Administration Workshop II
Oracle Database 10g: Administration Workshop II Ed 3 LVC
Oracle Database 10g: New Features for Administrators
Oracle Database 10g: New Features for Administrators Release 2
Oracle Database 10g: New Features for Administrators Ed 2.1 LVC
Oracle Database 10g: New Features for Oracle8i DBAs
Oracle Database 11g: New Features for Administrators
Oracle Database 11g: New Features for 9i DBAs
I wanted to know which course is the cheapest to meet the OCP requirement.
I hope, my question is clear.
Please, help in solving the doubt.

If you start talking about OCM then I would expect you have the capability of looking this up yourself.
You should be able to look up the course prices where you are and work this out for yourself, but usually the 2 day day courses will be cheaper than the 5 day ones.
You should also look at the course schedule to ensure your course is offered at a suitable location in the future.
You may find however the more expensive course are more useful to you ... so you have to weigh that up for yourself.
You only need one for OCP though.
One point to note is the course offered for OCP cannot also be offered for OCM, so you will need to do two more courses for OCM. By the time you reach that stage, if you reach that stage,I would suggest it is possilble only 11g will be offered for OCM, so you may wish to plan your courses on that basis.

  • Instructor-led online

    hi
    In this link http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=151
i read that if i want to pass the OCP Exam , it is necessary to complete one of the approved instructor-led online or in-class courses. My question is that, where i can find "approved instructor-led online" and pass this stage ? If it's possible , please send me some links .

I would appreciate, if you can put some light on this training instead of giving the link which are already provided by the Oracle website under education page. The links are easy to browse, just search for the course name and you will get all the details (course location, price, duration, topics, ..etc).
What kind of training is this? It is either instructor-led inClass OR instructor-led online course.
Why do I need to take this? It is one of the certification requirements. Starting from Oracle 9i, you must attend an approved course to get the certification (not applicable for certification upgrade).
Is there any alternative for this training? No, you still need to attend this course (you can select select one of the courses from the list of approved courses).
How much do I need to pay for this? Click on the exam link, then on the "Recommended Training and Preparation", you will get all the details.
Is there any cheaper option available or any other alternative avaiable to skip this step? There is no alternative; you still need to attend the course.

  • On-Line Instructor Led Course PC Configuration

I am trying to find out what configuration is needed for your Instructor-Led Online course. What is the minimum PC configuration and internet connection needed for participation in the courses? I have limited time away from the office and am looking into this aspect. Please either point me to the correct page or list the needed configuration (include cpu speed, modem speed, windows release, browser version, and additional software required).
    Thanks,
    pdr

Providing training was from an authorised provider, and providing the course is on the approved list for the version you are seeking OCP for then this wll meet OCP.
The most important thing is to identify your course on here: [http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=244]
I gues you will find one of the following:
(1): Your course is on the Oracle Database 10g Administrator Certified Professional list.
    - Great. Probally you will want to go through the process of submitting this for verification via the hands on course submission. (My recommendation is to get the stuff together and do the tutorial before you do this, as you have to wait 30 days to resubmit if you get it wrong =:-O )
    (2) Your course is on Oracle9i Database Administrator Certified Professional list.
    - Choices are harder, you may either have to take Oracle 9i OCP first or take a further hands on course, (remember some 2 days courses are cheaer). You might want to verify this with OCP fulfillment before you make your decision though.
    (3) You are unable to identify your course on the above lists, or your provider seemed to offer a somewhat different course.
    - In that case its time to contact OCP fulfillment to clarify your position.
It will help everyone if you ensure you've got details of that course (with dates) togetherfirst though.

  • Playing interactive swf files in instructor led class

We are putting together an instructor led online course.  The problem we keep running into, is that when we import a .swf file when we do share document, the files comes up for all to see, but anybody (teachers, stuidents, facilitator) can click on any of the buttons and everyone only sees what is on their screen as opposed to what the instructor is trying to show.  If we switch to share instructors screen and select application, it works - everyone sees what the instructor sees and only the instructor can hit different buttons - which is what we want - however the quality of the .swf file gets distorted grainy and plays really slow.  Does anybody have any solutions - is there a capability that I missed?

If you are using custom created SWF files make sure that you are building it to the guidelines given for the Collaboration SDK found here, http://www.adobe.com/devnet/adobeconnect.html.
You will be able to sync the file across all attendees in the room by doing the steps provided in that documentation. Otherwise, if you are using Captivate or Presenter, it should automatically sync.

  • Purpose of instructor led training requirement for OCP?

What is the purpose of requiring OCP candidates to take an instructor led course? It all seems a bit random / superfluous. Costly too if one does not have an employer willing to pay for the training.
My Oracle Press "OCA/OCP Oracle Database 11g All-in-One Exam Guide" doesn't even hint that classes are a requirement for the OCP; the most said is: "The OCA qualification is based on two examinations; the OCP qualification requires passing a third examination." (pg. XXIX). An incomplete characterization, correct?
And "To prepare for the OCA/OCP examinations, you can attend Oracle University instructor-led training courses, you can study Oracle University online learning material, or you can read this book." (pg. XXIX). Prepare for the exams, sure. But why would such a book omit the not insignificant detail that a perhaps expensive course is required to get the OCP? Seems discourteous to the reader.
    From http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=244#5 via http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=198&p_org_id=&lang=
I say it seems random and superfluous because of the following list:
"These foundation courses meet the Hands On Course Requirement for OCP-Level certification:
    * Oracle Database 11g: Introduction to SQL
    * Oracle Database 11g: Introduction to SQL Ed 1 LVC
    * Oracle Database 11g: SQL Fundamentals I
    * Oracle Database 11g: SQL Fundamentals l Ed 1 LVC
    * Oracle Database 11g: SQL and PL/SQL Fundamentals
    * Oracle Database 11g: SQL and PL/SQL Fundamentals Ed 1 LVC
    * Oracle Database 11g: Develop PL/SQL Program Units
    * Oracle Database 11g: Administration Workshop I
    * Oracle Database 11g: Administration Workshop I Ed 1.1 LVC
    * Oracle Database 11g: Administration Workshop II
    * Oracle Database 11g: Data Warehousing Fundamentals"
A modest Intro to SQL course will count? But an OCA will already have that knowledge. Obviously, one should choose a course with higher-level content. But I'm not sure I understand the logic of the OCA-grade courses being eligible. And for those funding certification without financial assistance from an employer, the question that suggests is this: what is the least expensive way to satisfy the "instructor led" course requirement? I cheapest price I see from Oracle is a 3 day class costing $1,800. It would also cost 3 days of vacation time, or unpaid leave, if an employer is not supportive of certification.

Thanks for your thoughtful reply Hans.
TO expose the candidate to techniques related to the new features rather than traditional techniques that are commonplace in the industry. That makes sense to me. But many of us like to tinker with new features on our own.In my experience, many, many more people want the OCP without doing any work. Some will use pure memorization or out and cheating to get there.
It's unfortunate that you and I get penalized by those.
    >
And to ensure that the has had at least some hands-on time, instead of only pure theory. While some people may get hands-on at work, many others do not
have that opportunityh, especially in the are of new features. Then it might make sense for OCP certification to allow submission of proof of work experience in place of the HOC, as is the case with other professional certifications.
    Yes, that would be nice.
But difficult to verify. and you would be surprised how many organizations have very narrow definitions of the job. Experimenting not allowed in some places.
It all seems a bit random / superfluous. Sad, from an instructors and OCP's point of view, to hear you think of it that way.I don't mean to say there isn't anything new any of us couldn't pick up, say, even from an Intro to SQL course. There's a vastness to most technology topics and we can't master every facet. But the cost/benefit ratio may be terribly low for those who are already Oracle professionals with many years of on the job experience. The reality as well is that some instructors are duds--that's the case anywhere. And for my learning style, I prefer self-guided / on-my-own study.
Costly too if one does not have an employer willing to pay for the training. No doubt.
My Oracle Press "OCA/OCP Oracle Database 11g All-in-One Exam Guide" doesn't even hint that classes are a requirement for the OCP; the most said is: "The
OCA qualification is based on two examinations; the OCP qualification requires passing a third examination." (pg. XXIX). An incomplete characterization, correct?A topic to discuss with the authors, and publisher. We (the user community with whom you are talking) have little to no control over this.Wonder if the authors participate in these forums. I realize you, as a user, have no control over this. But a book blessed by Oracle via Oracle Press, I respectfully submit, can and should do better--by including details about the HOC requirement.
Some do. But much more effetive would be to lodge a formal complaint or inquiry.
"These foundation courses meet the Hands On Course Requirement for OCP-Level certification:
...All of which will ensure you have had time becoming acquainted with SQLPLus, DBControl, and perhaps SQLDeveloper.I already use all 3 tools. Would love to take all the courses listed; but I'm not independently wealthy or otherwise.
    So would I. ;-)
As well as logging in (you would be surprised how many OCA candidates do not know how), these all give you an opportunity to issue SQL and PL/SQL
commands. Scary, but seems beside the point. The HOC requirement is one solution to this problem, but it seems like a sub-optimal one. Again, this punishes Oracle professionals already working in the field who'd like to become certified. Why is there no regard for them? One way to correct this, if this is a genuine concern on Oracle's part, is to include a "live" aspect to the exams. Then, if this causes a fail, those who flunk might be interested in taking HOCs to remedy this. In this day and age, I'm certain training could involve interactive SQL*PLUS sessions, etc. Only a failure of imagination and will could prevent I suspect; particularly in a world of virtualization. I'd consider a redesign of exams before I'd require people to pay for classes they may be unable to pay for. It's a bit of an insult to working Oracle professionals who want to add certification.
I agree to some extent. Again, the issue is the consistency in experience. I have met people with 10 years of experience, and others with 10 times 1 year of experience.
A modest Intro to SQL course will count? But an OCA will already have that knowledge. I wish this was consistently true. Then I mispoke. But the HOC still punishes existing Oracle professionals.
I sympathize. I'm an independent, and all exams and certification costs come out of my own (corporate=me) pocket. But life in the professional fast lane is not
cheap. This topic has been the source of some contention for quite some time.
Unfortunately a number of people have been unscrupulous in their method of getting certification - cheating, using gunners, and so on - and I see this as one of
the few ways to combat the issue. If the cheating issue is just left alone, the value of OCP (and any other certification) is effectively lost. The unscrupulous, I'm afraid, will always be with us. This problem is not solved, I'm also afraid, by requiring a costly HOC. It is in my opinion one potential solution of many, and not at all the best one. I wonder how other vendors with certifications handle this. I do know that some industry-generic certifications require proof of X years of work in the field (e.g. GISPs), as well as providing proof of various contributions to the field. This could be gamed as well I suppose. But the honest should not be punished along with the dishonest.Basically I agree with the sentiment. Implementation is the issue.
    >
Bottom line: in my view, a few alternate solutions to the HOC are:
    1) Allow submission of work credentials to substitute for the HOC
    2) Incorporate hands-on aspects to the exam, e.g. a SQL*PLUS simulator.
I'm sure the brilliant minds at Oracle, or a suitable contractor, could easily accomplish #2. And #1 might be a true bar-raiser. It seems highly unlikely to me that, say, requiring an Intro to SQL HOC course raises the bar more than a few millimeters. There have been many discussions around this. Several of us have even considered non-vendor certifications as a route to accomplish this.
It is an imperfect world. But hopefully the steps will correct some of the deficiencies.
I am sure Paul and the rest of the Certification team would be happy to hear more feedback on how to implement practical verifiable real-world experience alternatives to the HOC that do not increase Oracle's costs.
    >
Since both are unlikely to happen any time soon, what is the least expensive option for the HOC and where do I find a list of courses and institutions that offer them? In my view, Oracle should provide this information as a courtesy. No reason not to unless there is a revenue motive; and the author of the blog posts you sent me assures us the addition of the HOC is not a revenue enhancement maneuver. I'd be more inclined to believe it if those words were backed-up with helpful actions like the one I've proposed--since such a thing seems not to exist. All courses and course locations are available through http://education.oracle.com (and have been available for years) as well as the price. Oracle's policy does not allow for much price variation for education. The exception is when bulk purchased are negotiated, which is outside what you and I can talk with them about.

  • Instructor-led class for OCP/OCM schedules

Is it possible to take an instructor led online class for ocp/ocm choosing other location? i live in US but i prefer other country's schedules..
    thanks

I'm not positive that I understand what you are asking. You can attend a class anywhere that you're willing to travel to. Oracle Education will not prevent you from taking a class in The UK because you happen to live in the US, or vice-versa. The only VISA they are interested in is the one with sixteen digits on the front and a magnetic strip on the back.

  • OCP: Instructor-led course

Oracle's certification path on http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=151 suggests doing an instructor-led course.
How mandatory is this course for getting OCP certiified and what if I clear in all papers minus 10g instructor-led course?
I have done a course in version 9i (from oracle approved institute) few years back but I didnt obtain certification that time. Can I now use that certificate to obtain 10g OCP?

  • Question about instructor led courses

I'm sorry if this is in the wrong forum, but upon looking through all of the choices, this one seems as good as any.
For those of you who have taken oracle instructor led courses: if you could only choose one of the four courses offered for the 9i DBA route, which one would it be assuming you could study the other courses via the CD ROMS?
I appreciate everyone's two cents on this.
    ld

To a large extent it depends on what your current knowledge level is. I came to Oracle with strong sql skills already, so found the SQL course to be a real waste of time.
If I had to choose only 1 instructer led course, I would probably go for either
DBA Fundamentals - a good overview of the architecture of Oracle, how it works, and where to find stuff in the database
    or
Backup and Recovery - because that is the only thing a DBA cannot get wrong under any circumstances.

  • Instructor-led class for OCP

will my university bachelor's degree in IT(specialization: Database Technologies) count or substitute for the instructor-led class which is required for OCP.. It included 3 classes. (we used 10g as our platform and had several team & individual database projects for each classes)
    Database Management Systems (4 credits)
Database Security, Auditing, and Disaster Recovery (4 credits) and
Data Warehousing and Mining (4 credits)
Also can you recommend OCP approved instructor-led class tranining here in Minnesota. Is the online format any good?

    thanksYour options are:
    (1) Worforce: https://workforce.oracle.com/pls/wdp/new_home.main .... but i don't think one is near you. Remeber I am in UK and have given up on US geography as it seems half those in Washington are o the west coast and the other half on the east coast in a different time zone. Quality can be a bit dodgy so not recommended.
    (2) Otherwise you need to indentify your couse here:
    http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=244
Unless you are rich and can afford loads choose your course wisely .... some help with the exams ... others can expand your experience post exams. Some are cheaper than others.
I think i'd generally prefer classroom ..... ( I have never done LVC online). But distance can be an issue.
    Anyways checkout: http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=317
And try to fight your way round the course schedules http://education.oracle.co.uk/html/oracle/28US/SCHED_MP.htm . Hopefully they taught you to fight your way arround such websites at university ... the information is there. If not give oracle university a ring ... Larry wants to acquire you and your money.

I have seen the Exadata Course Training details on oracle.com/education. Cost of the training is $3000 (3 Days) in US for Instructor-Led Training and $1500 (2 Days) for Instructor-Let /Live Virtual classes.
Is it worth taking the training since the training is on ODM not on actual machine.
Which training is better Instructor-Let or live Virtual Classes.
Did anyone took the training. Any advice from the persons who took the training.

    Hi buddy,
Which training is better Instructor-Let or live Virtual Classes. As the books are suppose to be the same... One more answer "doesn't matter"... The most important part of those OU training ( at least to me ) are the books not if You'll be able to see the intructor face-to-face.
Did anyone took the training. Any advice from the persons who took the training.Ask Your boss to buying one and starting working on that as soon as possible.... Also, reading blogs from Kevin Closson/Greg will be very very helpfull ;)

I can't seem to find a version 4.0 to go back to, since 4.0 has been working fine for me. Iif not, I will have to go with google chrome. I need a solution ASAP.

I had this same problem when my school's email page refused to work in Firefox 5. I solved it by installing the User Agent RG extension, then changing my user agent to IE7 before accessing my school email. Once you install the extension, you'll have to show your menu bar when you want to use it, then you'll find the User Agent submenu under the Tools menu. Hope this works for you, too.
