Conserving storage on iPhone 5S using iTunes Match

Do anyone know how I can reduse the amount of space my music fills on my iPhone 5S when I use iTunes Match.
I have more music on my Mac that what I can store on my iPhone 5S. I started using iTunes Match in order to have access to all my music in my iPhone 5S at least when I am on a wi-fi network. However, Match seems to download music as I listen to it and now the storage is almost full and music is the asolute largest chunck (which actually was the prime reason to start using Match).
From iPhone 5S Setting I can delete the entire music library, but that is not my intention.
When administrating iPhone 5S in iTunes on my Mac, iTunes tells me music is being accessed through iCloud.
iCloud.com do not offer any administration of the music on the iPhone.
Do any one knows?

Other is a problem. It has been for a long time, but it's become worse under iOS 7. There are a few things you can do.
Close all web pages then close all apps. Go into Airplane mode and open the Videos app. Check it for any videos that you didn't set up to sync to the phone. If you find any delete them. (I streamed some things from the cloud and used AirPlay to send them to my TV. They were left on the phone but instead of using memory listed under Videos, they were using memory listed under Other!)
Open messages and delete all unnecessary pictures and videos. Also do this with any other chat type apps.
Close all remaining apps, turn the phone off and on again and sync and see what happens.
If, after all this, you're still stuck with too much Other, backup your phone and do a restore. It's a royal pain in the butt, but I've had to do it every 2-3 weeks since I got the 5S and iOS 7 and a regular restore has become part of my routine maintenance, regardless of how much I hate it. It also has the benefit of keeping some other wierd bugs at bay. If your Applecare plan is still in effect, call them about this. I have an open ticket that goes back to November!
Let us know if any of these steps helped.

  • My playlists have not been trnasferred to my iphone while using iTunes Match

They have completely disappeared.  I had been using ITunes Match on my iPhone and it was working fine, but I noticed the new things I had bought or CDs I had ripped weren't showing.  So I turned match off and turned it back on and that's when I lost my playlists.  Where are they?  All the music is showing except the playlists.  How do I get them back???

Wicked annoying but I actually uninstalled iTunes on my Mac using an AppZapper. You can also get AppCleaner which is free. After I just went to apple.com/itunes and redownloaded iTunes. My music and playlists were still there, then I turned on iTunes Match and turned it on my iPhone once the upload finished. Try it!
NOTHING else worked! This was the only way I could jumpstart iTunes Match to actually give me my playlists. PLEASE backup your Library first. Nothing bad should happen, but don't take any chances. Good luck!

  • No artwork on iPhone when using iTunes match, some songs gone missing

Just started using iTunes Match, almost all of my artwork is missing, and randomly at that, it worked beore I started using iTunes Match, it also doesn't download when I play the songs. Some songs went missing "in the cloud" and are unable todownload although I can see them on my iPhone 4s and were uploaded from my PC without any errors. iTunes Match a waste of money? I paid for this because I thought all the artwork and songs were suppose to get uploaded to cloud then downloaded to selected devices :/

On the iPhone go to Settings > iTunes & App Stores and make sure "use cellular data" is set to ON.

  • How can I sync to keep some music tracks on my iPhone AND use iTunes Match to stream the rest?

Before I got iTunes Match, I had selected a whole bunch of music from my iTunes to sync onto my iPhone using my USB cable.
Now I've signed up for iTunes Match and none of that music is on my iPhone anymore except by streaming.
How do I get those tunes and podcasts back on my iPhone so I can listen to them when streaming is not available (like downstairs in my gym where there's no signal) WHILE ALSO being able to access the other non-sync'd tunes if I want whenever I've got a good signal.
I spent some time choosing which tunes to keep on my iPhone and which not to sync. So I'm sad they've all gone from my iPhone.
    Your help appreciated!

You don't really have to download each one.
If you put the songs that you want to in a playlist you can have your iOS device download all the songs automatically rather than you having to do them one by one.  And as you add more songs to this playlist you can periodically have your iOS device download the new ones.  It actually works very well.  The only downside, albeit a small one, is that it won't automatically download the new additions to your playlists.
This is exctly what I do for my workout playlist.  I populated it, downloaded all the songs in one shot by clicking the DOWNLOAD ALL button on that playlist on my iPhone, and then as I add songs to that playlist in iTunes I'll go back to the iOS device and download those individual songs.

  • How can i store music on my iPhone and use iTunes match?

I signed up for Itunes match but found the streaming music uses a lot of data and is too expensive.  I then put the music back on my iphone but found that enabling itunes match will delete the music on my phone.  Is there anyway to keep the music on my iphone and also connect to itunes match?

Thank you so much for the response. This half sorts out my issue, as turning off Musicmatch means I can load music onto my iPad, but the minute I turn it back on to access my library whilst travelling I will lose what I have loaded as it comes up saying " all music will be erased".
I really apprecaite your time, so will just have to live with what I load. Seems weird that Apple wouldn't consider people want to listen to music on planes or in Non - wifi zones??
    Thanks again!

  • Load and delete single songs on iphone/ipad using itunes match iOS6

    Hi,
in the past (iOS5) it was possible to load and delete single songs on my device additional to stream them with WLAN (the were also stored physically on my device :-(((
with iOS6 the songs are not stored on my device via streaming :-)))) but if I want some music physically on my iOSdevice it's only possible to load the whole album and not only a single song. I don't know to delete songs/albums anyway :-(((
    Did Apple cancled this possibilties?!?!:-((((

On my iPhone 4 using iOS 6, when I turn off iTunes Match, all the songs on the phone disappear so I can't delete them. However, when syncing with iTunes 11, it shows the songs still taking up memory. And that's with music syncing turned off. It appears that my only solution is to restore the phone. However, iTunes 11 appears to be hung now for over 15 minutes.

  • Why does my music keep getting deleted from my iphone while using itunes match?

Ever since i started itunes match, gradually my local music on my iphone has been removing itself to be replaced with the icloud symbol. All the music is still there but it's removed locally. Today all my music was suddenly removed requiring me to re-add all my music by clicking every icloud symbol individually and it is driving me absolutely mad! What am I doing wrong?!

Does the same thing happen if you use another set of headphones?
If it does, there might be something in the headphone jack like lint, dirt, or something else. You might be able to get it out by connecting the headphones 5-10x or spraying compressed air into the jack.
If it doesn't you might need to get those headphones replaced.

  • My artwork has disappeared from my iPhone after using iTunes match.

Hi. Im using iTunes Match, but my iPhone storage is full of music. I haven't downloaded any songs into the device. Please help.

Go to Settings > General > Usage and tap Music (you may need to scroll down in the list). Swipe across "all music" and tap DELETE.
When streaming music from the cloud the Music app caches a temporary copy for later playback.

  • What's the best way to use iTunes match with 4 iPhones and an ipad2

Currently have iPhone 4 (2), iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G (used as touch-no sim), and iPad 2.  We use one apple id to purchase with. We use a windows 7 pc and iTunes 10.5.....latest ver.  My questions are  kinda multi faceted, but I'm thinking iTunes match can help.  Ok....
Is iTunes match cloud space the same as iCloud space?
I have ~15000 mp3's.  I'd like to use iTunes match to "clean up" my library.  So, once I get my matched tunes up there will all my devices see that library?
What about playlists?  Do they just stay the same and locally reside on iDevices?
I don't have a Mac yet, well I don't have a new one.  I currently have a iBook g4 1.0 ghz with 1.25mb ram and osx 10.5 on it.  I would like to move all my music to a 1tb nas drive that I have.....iTunes does see it.  Then do all my iTuning from that machine for the next couple of months until I save more money and by an iMac.
However, it seems as though this ITunes might be able to this better.......
I'm terribly confused...I have 10+ years in IT, albeit mostly all PC.  That being said, I am ready to switch, I just feel like I'm so deep into a mess it seems impossible to do any of this cleanly.
    Thank you,

I'll try to help a bit.
ITunes match space is different to icloud space. With iTunes match you get storage for 25,000 non iTunes purchased tracks and other than a limit for individual file size, there is no memory limit.
You can turn match on individuallyon each device (I have it turned off on my iPod but turned on on my iPad and iPhone). When you turn it on then you get access to all the tracks, and in my experience any playlists I create have transferred over very well. I understand that some people have had trouble with playlists though.
I'm not quite clear with exactly what you mean regarding cleaning up your library, but be careful about using Match for this. There is no guarantee that matched songs will be exactly the same version as your own copy, due to some mismatches, so you could find some problems there. Personall, I am cleaning up my library before matching, but I am rather particular about keeping my library the way I want it. If you aren't as fussed then match could be the answer.
    Hope that helped.

  • I'm using iTunes Match now, can I no longer manage the music on my iPhone through a playlist on my computer in iTunes?

I used to pick and choose the music I wanted to take up the storage space on my iPhone through iTunes on my computer (note: not on my phone). Now that I use iTunes Match, the only way to delete songs seems to be to use my iPhone and swipe on whichever artists or songs I want to delete. Can I no longer use a playlist in iTunes to choose which music takes up the storage space? Let me know.. I still want to be able to play a song I haven't synched up to my phone through iTunes Match if I need to, though, so I don't want to just turn it off (plus I paid $25 for it...). Thanks!!

    A few things:
    1) By default, iTunes Match puts *nothing* on your iPhone. It just lists the songs that are in the cloud, and you can download them if you choose to. It seems like that's what you want, but you say you're not getting it. You don't have to delete everything you don't want. On the contrary: You have to download everything you do want. I'm confused.
Basically, my phone is already completely full (32GBs) of music and a few high def videos at the moment. I *want* about 24GBs of music on my phone right now. I *have* about 28 on there. It is nice to have that 24GBs of music on my phone because iTunes Match doesn't work perfectly - sometimes if I am driving, and I click play on a song I want to hear that isn't on my phone, it takes 20-40 seconds to start to play (with songs/mixes over 30 minutes, this can be several minutes). I want to keep a lot of songs on my phone, permanently, all the time, and choose songs to add to that permanent list as I choose/download them.
Maybe this will make it a little bit clearer, I realize this isn't the easiest thing to describe and I've had a few beers: I downloaded (by clicking play on my phone) songs I don't want to take up space on my phone. I clicked play on them, on my phone, while driving in my car. Heard that song once, now I don't want to hear it again for awhile, and I certainly don't want it taking up my precious space on my phone. Now imagine this situation times 100 or so.. that's 100 different songs (a few of them very long mixes) on my phone that I have to go in and manually delete by swiping. I want to do it from my computer.. it'd be way easier to find them and delete them.
Anyway, I think the answer is that there isn't a way to manage my music with iTunes Match enabled on my computer. No big deal, I guess, just suggesting there should be easier ways.
    2) You actually don't need iTunes Match to redownload a song that you forgot to sync over, as long as it's a song you purchased in iTunes. Anyone (match subscriber or not) can redownload iTunes-purchased music, tv shows, apps, and books right from the device in the iTunes app.
I have never downloaded a song from iTunes, so this doesn't apply.
    3) In your mind, what are the features of iTunes Match on the iPhone other than makin your entire library accessible for download from the cloud? As far as my logic takes me, if you want to manually control what's on it, you specifically don't want iTunes Match enabled, and I don't see any other reason you would want it enabled.
The only feature I am using iTunes Match for is to download music I haven't synced to my phone, onto my phone. I just want to be able to delete it later from my computer. I guess I want to be able to see the songs I have downloaded since the last sync so that I could easily delete those songs.. Yes, that would be a good solution.

  • Can I use iTunes Match for 2 iPhones with different music, same account?

My wife and I each have an iPhone and share an iTunes account.  We share a master music library but each manually manage our music on our iPhones.  So she has certain songs on her phone and I have different ones on mine, both coming from the same master library.  I'm trying to figure out if I can use iTunes Match in this scenario.  I don't want to see her songs on my iPhone.  Is there a way to only see music on my iPhone if I use Match or am I stuck seeing my entire library on my iPhone?

I think I'm getting it finally, thanks for the clarification.  So at least I know there is a way to not see all music in my library from my iPhone.
So in my case i have about 800 songs on my iPhone out of about 1600 on my iTunes library.  If I'm understanding correctly I would have to enable Match on my iPhone, then turn off the "show all music" option.  This in turn should leave me with my original 800 songs listed which I woud then have to download from the cloud.  Once I have all of my 800 songs back down from the cloud I won't be required to download them again from that phone.
A worse scenario would be that I enable Match, and then have to find my 800 songs out of the total 1600 manually from the list and then download them from the cloud.
    Which scenario is correct?

I have tried to sync it using iTunes match, this did not work. I would like to have access to my full library without going into the user profile of my old computer, which is on my new computers hard drive. I would like to eventually delete the old profile so that I have more space on my hard drive.

  • I have 2 iphones in the family and want to use itunes match on both devices, but my husband has his own itunes acct, how can he use the main itunes library and get out music on his phone also

I have 2 iphones in the family and want to use itunes match on both devices, unfortunately my husband has his own itunes acct and when i change on his phone to my itunes acct it states that the email is already in use, any help on how to get the itunes match to go onto both devices, thanks

    "Method Three
Create a separate iTunes library for each device. Note:It is important that you make a new iTunes Library file. Do not justmake a copy of your existing iTunes Library file. If iTunes is open, quit it.
This one may work. I searched and searched on the website for something like this, I guess I just didn't search correctly, lol. I will give this a try later. My daughter is not be back for a few weekends, therefore I will have to try the Method 3 when she comes back for the weekend again. "
I forgot to mention that she has a PC at her house that she also syncs to. Would this cause a problem. I am already getting that pop up saying that the iPod is synced to another library (even though she is signed in with her Apple ID to iTunes) and gives the pop up to Cancel, Erase & Sync, or Transfer Purchases. My question arose because she clicked on "Erase & Sync" by mistake when she plugged the iPod to her PC the first time. When the iPod was purchased and setup, it was synced to my PC first. When she went home, she hooked it up to her PC and then she erased it by accident. I was able to restore all the missing stuff yesterday using my PC. However, even after doing that it still told me the next time I hooked it up last night that the iPod was currently synced with a different library. Hopefully, you can help me understand all this. She wants to sync her iPod and also backup her iPod at both places. Both PCs have been authorised. Thanks
