CONSIDER UPGRADING HARD DISK OF MSI GT60-0NC

I had bought my new MSI GT60-0NC recently in Malaysia. My com is equipped with 750GB 7200rpm hdd, probably sata maybe.
So far I am satisfied and indeed quite impressed with its performance. Who knows maybe after few years my specs will soon outdated and cant cope with my requirements for performance?
I would like to seek for some guidance for upgrading hdd to other type of hard disk drives like ssd or raid-II.
Is any kind of SSD hard drive can be installed on the laptop? Any brand recommendations for ssd or hybrid hard disk drives?
Thanks a lot.

It's really hit or miss with most SSD's for some reason.
I've seen a few people who got Samsung 840 non-PRO/PRO drives have problems, and some who had no problems.
Personally, I've got the super raid adapter and have 2 x Mushkin Atlas Deluxe mSATA 240GB drives in my laptop, and it work great.
I've had a few people with Intel 520 based drives have problems as well.
Personally, I would find what you want and try it out. If it doesn't work, you may have to return it though. Everything SHOULD work, but it's not always the case unfortunately.

    Actually you can:

  • MSI GT60-0NC SCM Bluetooth Problem!

I own a MSI GT60-0NC Notebook. I have made a clean install of Windows 8 Pro. After that I installed SCM. But I have a problem. When I run SCM, bluetooth enters an endless loop which turns on and of with 1 second of delay without touching. What can cause this? Should I update BIOS? It will be my last choice though. Thanks in advance

I had the SAME Problem with a GT70 bought on the 13.9.13!
    I update BIOS & EC!
Now there is no loop, but i cant activate or deactivate BT. Win8 sasy its on, but no LED!
Think this is a big BUG from MSI.
At the old BIOS version you can uninstall SCM and reinstall KLM, than it works but no ECO/Fly Shortcut.
With the new BIOS & EC the shortcuts work fine after clean install without SCM but no ECO & Fly shortcut. With SCM there is the BT issue and after deinstalling SCM no shortcuts work any more.
    MSI PLZ fix it!
    Place: Austria
    Edit:
I tried it with the KLM & SCM NEW Version from the GT70 Dragon Extrem 2 Edition.......
    Same BT Issiu -.-

  • MSI GT60-0NC Paging File Size Help!

I'm having issues with my laptop (http://www.msi.com/product/nb/GT60-0NC.html#/?div=Overview) after messing with the paging file settings. I'm wondering what the default values are for this particular laptop.
I'm not sure what it was before I started messing with it, but after I changed it my benchmark for 3d renderings (architectural visualizations done through maxwell render) have dropped more than significantly.
While rendering, my physical memory usage is about 95%, my CPU usage is only 4% (which should be between 70-90%), and my Disk usage is 100%. Disk usage must be my problem, because when I check the resource monitor my the system is writing about 10,000,000 B/sec to the pagefile, while maxwell is reading about 13,000,000 B/sec from the pagefile. This read / write of the pagefile keeps my disk usage at 100% throughout the render.
If I allow windows to "automatically manage the paging file size for all drives," it allocates 12288 to drive C: (OS) and none to the other drive in the RAID. Displayed at the bottom is "Minimum allowed: 16 MB; Recommended: 5107 MB; Currently allocated: 12288 MB"
What started the problem is when I went to manually manage the pagefile myself, and moved the paging file to the other RAID drive (D:), and ever since I haven't been able to render properly. I'm trying to isolate my problem, and this is the only significant change I made to this system since it was able to render correctly, other than removing it's ability to hibernate.
Anyone have any advice? My first step was to allow windows to automatically control the pagefile again, and its back on the C drive, but the problem still persists. I also did a system restore to a date before I made these changes, and that didn't help either.
Thanks in advance for any help!

    Thanks for the response.
Both drives in my raid are HDD, and are set to defragment weekly. Defragmenter says it was last run today, and they are both 0% fragmented.
    Update:
My issue ended up being a corrupt scene file (for the rendering program), which once I rewrote the scene the problem has disappeared. Disk usage is back to very low, and CPU usage is back to 100% where it should be during a rendering. Slowdown was associated with the corrupt file causing me to hit the limit of my physical memory, which caused the major slowdown in reading/writing massive amounts of overflow to the pagefile.
That's great. Atleast you know what the problem was and know how to solve it next time!

  • Problem of 1.5TB hard disk with msi p7n sli platinum

I have just bought a new 1.5TB hard disk (Western Digital). Bios can detect the disk but when i boot into Windows (XP sp3) its does not show?? can anyone tell me how to fix the problem. I have updated my mobo bios to 1.3 which is the latest available from the MSI site.
    Thanks in advanced

Did you initialize the disk yet?  Go to Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Computer Management, and then click on Disk Management.  You should now see the disk listed there.  Right-click the disk and initialize it.  You can get to disk management directly by hitting the WindowsKey+R, type diskmgmt.msc, hit okay or enter, and the disk management box below will show.

  • Largest hard disk on MSI KT4A Ultra (MS-6590)

MSI say the largest hard disk the KT4A Ultra (MS-6590) supports is 160GB:
    http://global.msi.eu/index.php?func=prodfaqanswer&faq_no=912&prod_no=548&maincat_no=1&cat2_no=&cat3_no=
    Is that right?
Does it apply to SATA or just IDE?
Can a BIOS update or other patch get over that limit please?

Check your board's support page here. Look for the Test Report for Hard Disks. Once a board supports greater than 137gb, any size drive will work. If you see a size such as 160gb tested as OK, then you will be fine!

  • Not getting enough performance out of Msi GT60 0NC

Hello there guys! Since I've got my laptop I have been getting the feeling that I am not getting enough power out of my toy. I dont know if its me who have too big expectations about this laptop or it really should be performing better?:( I have done hours of research regarding drivers, graphic setup and not at least overclocking which seems to raise the performance quite a bit but it easily gets unstable. I am using Msi's preinstalled drivers as it seems like they give the best performance so far. I have also installed the modded Firmware from https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=162629.0 which works better than the original one from Msi. But still, i hear a lot of people playing demanding games on ultra with fps around 50-60. In bf3 I get around 40-60 on High with shadow on medium and post processing off, anti-aliasing off. Turbo is on + overclock. The performance in Gw2 is even worse.
So here is my question: am I expecting too much from the laptop or can I do something to improve it and make it run like a charm? Another question would be if it is possible to change powervoltage to get a higher overclock?
I would very much like to hear from u guys how your msi gt60 is performing:)
    Best regards, Mathias Kanstrup

Same here, Gt70 0NE + 680M; overclocking GPU core causes clockdowns so gains are minimal. Overclocking memory is successful upto about 2500MHz but gains are small as the memory isn't the restricting factor in preformance - or the effect is just minuscule. So mostly 2 to 8 % in benchmarks, max.
With extreme air cooling and a modified VBios, it's possible to get up to around 15%......I know this first hand.
I just don't care to do it since there's little point in pushing the hardware that hard regularly. Yes, it's great for bragging rights, but it's not useful for long term use unfortunately.
Overclocking the memory in the GTX675M might help a bit more than in the 680M. I'm not sure, I haven't really followed up on the other cards.

  • 9.2.1 upgrade - hard disk driver prob.

    Hi all,
    System
    PowerPC G4 dig audio dual533
    768mb ram
    40gb HD - 9.1OS
    120gb HD - OSX tiger
I have installed a 2nd hand 120Gb HD which I totally erased writing 0's over it then partitioned (1) MacOS extended.
Loaded OSX tiger onto it and all is sweet no problems at all and loving the new interface!
Now the problem is I want to use my Illust9 & Phsop6 on the old 40gb HD which is running OS9.1.
Tried to access one of the progs via Tiger, classic started up and basically hung on the startup screen so I had to cancel it. That is when the problems started.
I booted up the OS9.1 drive and lost use of my enternet300 adsl internet connection. Reloaded adsl software, didn't fix. Also missing Quicktime VR plus tried using Illust9 and got systems error of controls trip extension. A few other things seemed to go wrong as well.
Read somewhere that it was highly rec to upgrade to 9.2.2 to utilise the classic environment effectively.
As I had lost my internet connection on the old HD I downloaded the Mac OS 9.2.1 Update.smi, Mac OS 9.2.2 Update.smi and HardDriveUpdate1.smi files from my Tiger HD.
Back to the OS9.1 HD to install the updates and it comes up with.....
The hard disk driver on the disk "PowerMac G4 Install" cannot be updated with this program because the disk is not an Apple hard disk. Contact the manufacturer of your computer or hard disk to see if you need to update the driver.
After alot of stuffing around I have done the following in this order.
after each one it didn't fix the problem
    1. OS9.1 software restore in place
    2. OS9.1 software restore clean install
    3. Erased HD and initilised 1 part partition using OS9.1 software install CD
then installed new OS9.1 by booting up from install CD
    4. Erased HD and initilised 1 part partition using OSX tiger software install DVD from 120gb HD, then installed new OS9.1 by booting up from install CD
thinking this would sort the driver problem but no go.
same problem when trying to upgrade to 9.2.1!!!!!!!!!!!
    any ideas?
    40gb HD is a IBM-IC35L040AVER07-0

    OK,
I have Erased the 40gbHD and erased, initilised it with a 1 part partition using disk utility from the OSX tiger on the 120gb HD, then installed a new OS9.1 by booting up from the OS9.1 install CD.
Used the 9.2.1 upgrade which was downloaded from Apple.
Followed thier instructions in the read me file by
    turning extensions to 9.1 base
make sure file sharing is off (wasn't on in the first place)
    then restarted
no other apps running and straight into starting the upgrade
    started the install process
unchecked the option to update driver
starts to install goes for about 6% and then the box comes up with......
This version of Mac OS can not be installed over the localized version of Mac OS on the disk named "XXXXXXX XXXXX".
Please choose a different destination disk, or perform a clean installation.
SURELY IT CAN"T BE THIS HARD TO UPGRADE FROM 9.1 to 9.2.1 to 9.2

  • Upgrade Hard Disk in MacBook Pro

I recently purchased (within the last 2months) a new MacBook Pro with the 200GB Hard Drive. I decided that the upgrade to the 250GB was not a significant upgrade to warrant the money and that I would inquire at this point what the maximum upgrade Apple will perform. That leads me to my question.
I need to have Apple install the new hard drive because I have the 3 year protection plan and do not wish to void the warranty. Can someone tell me what the largest hard disk that Apple will install is?
    Thanks.

I have checked with several sources and found the same. Apple will not do the upgrade, but you need to find an authorized Apple Service Provider to do the upgrade.
Even though your Apple warranty is still intact, it will no longer cover the drive itself. so if your drive fails, you will have to use the warranty supplied by the drive-vendor (3 years on Hitachi Travelstar 500GByte). You'll probably have to pay labor to have it repaired though.
I just had the 500GB installed by an Apple Dealer in Boulder last week.

  • Upgrading Hard Disk iMac iSight

    ALCON,
I bought a WD 500GB SATA drive yesterday and then spent a few hours yesterday ignoring Apple's caution about the only user upgradable part inside an iMac iSight G5 being the RAM. In short, they're right. After (eventually) opening the computer and getting under the screen to reveal the hard disk, there was no way to remove it without disassembling a whole lot more than I wanted because you can't get a screw driver/torz bit onto all of the screws holding the drive in without disassembling all kinds of stuff. Furthermore, getting to this point required me to tear open the protective lining inside the computer and I ended up pulling the isight mic wires loose from the top of the case. Last, even if you get further than I did, you'll have to contend with how to remove and hook up the temperature sender connected to the side of the OEM drive. The WD I bought does not appear to have the correct connection to make this work. So, hours later I successfully reassembled my iMac and it works fine...minus the mic. I took a couple of pictures for anyone interested. Send me an email to [email protected]
    Jeff

    Hello Jeff,
I bought a Seagate 160GB SATA hard drive, and looking to the installation instructions it seems that the drive does not have the screws holes and connectors located like in the instructions PDF manuel that I got from Apple. It seems so simple in the instructions ...
Where can I have a look at your pictures ??
    Thanks in advance.

  • Upgrading hard disk from 320 GB to 500 GB

    Hi Mac Gang,
By how much will the weight of my 13" macbook pro increase by upgrading the hard disk from 320GB to 500GB?
    Thanks!

It's not the size (space) of a drive that increases its weight, it's more likely the speed of a drive that affects its weight. A 7200 RPM drive generally weighs more than its 5400 RPM counterpart (given the same model and same manufacturer), regardless of the amount of disk space in GBs. (The weight difference between these two different speed drives is probably only about 10-20 g.)
FYI: Data on a hard drive has no weight, either. ; )

  • Upgrading hard disk in the new aluminum iMacs

Hi all. Is a hard disk upgrade on the new aluminum iMacs something that a seasoned computer geek can do by his/her-self at home? Will it void the Apple warranty if it's not done by a certified specialist?
I want to pick up a new 20" iMac, and I'm having a hard time deciding whether I need to get a big disk now or if I can upgrade at home, on my own, down the road.
I did some research (on this site) on upgrading the hard disk in the last rev of iMacs, and it looks pretty simple. I also noticed that, according to Apple, as long as you adhere to their procedure (only touch the brass colored screws!) you are well within your rights under the warranty to replace the hard disk.
I could not find out if this policy was the same for the new aluminum models. Does anyone have an answer? I don't NEED a 500 or 750GB internal hard disk right now... but I'm sure I will WANT one at some point not too far down the road.
    Thanks!

Apple can't legally "void" your warranty for just opening the cabinet. They can refuse to cover any damage you do -- but unrelated failures are still covered. Apple doesn't own the warranty -- you paid for it, and under US law, they are required to honor it.

  • Upgrading Hard Disk on MacBook Pro First Generation

Hello, I am thinking on upgrading the hard disk of my macbook pro, first generation, Core Duo 1.83Ghz, 2GB Ram, 80HD.
Does any one knows wich is the largest HD that this machine support, and if there is a specific brand that I should Use of HD.
I recently upgrade the Memory from 512 to 2 gigas, I bought "generic" DDR2 memory from a local store and those memories works greate in the macbook pro. I would like to know if could do the same with the HD.
    thanks.
P.D. My machine doesn´t have warranty any more, so I am planning to do the upgrade under my own risk.

    Hello afgarza,
A few months ago I replaced the 100GB in my MBP with a 250GB HITACHI Travelstar. I needed the extra room for Boot Camp. Although 250GB seems pretty big (for a laptop) it's still not big enough. As far as I know, for now, that's about as big as it gets.
By-the-way, if you're planning to replace the hard drive yourself, here's a step-by-step I found (and used) on how to do it:
    http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Mac/MacBook-Pro/Hard-Drive/85/5/
Although it shows a 15" MBP, it was similar enough for my 17".
(Unfortunately, I have a couple of screws leftover...)

  • Upgrading Hard Disk Drive of Lenovo THINKPAD T500 2055 ?

    Hi there,
My personal laptop is Lenovo THINKPAD T500 2055, and its main specifications as follows:
    - Intel Core 2 Duo processor T9400 (2.53GHz 1066MHz 6MBL2).
    - 8 GB DDR3 SDRAM Memory Module 4 GB (2 x 4 GB) 1066MHz DDR31066/PC38500 DDR3 SDRAM SoDIMM Kingston
    - ATI Mobility Radeon 3650 with 256MB.
    - 160 GB Hard Disk Drive, 7200rpm.
I really need to upgrade the Hard Disk Drive to a bigger size (500 GB, 7200 rpm). and, my major questions are as follows:
    * Could you please advise me on which Hard Disk Drive (500 GB, 7200 rpm) should I buy for my T500 laptop?
For example, I found (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003NSBF32) But I have no idea what T500 supports and what it doesn't... Therefore, I need your help to guide me about this matter. In other words, How do you know if ABC-Hard Disk Drive fits with T500 and XYZ-Hard Disk Drive doesnt fit? What is the clue in knowing what T500 accepts?
    My another question is:
    * How easy is it to remove/replace Hard Disk Drive in Lenovo ThinkPad T500 ???
I already watched CRU Removals/Replacements on (http://www.lenovoservicetraining.com/ion/R61_T61/index.html), But the clip is for ThinkPad R61 and T61. So, Could you please help me how to handle it with T500 ?
I would greatly appreciate your inputs.
Thanks for your consideration of my request, and I very much look forward to hearing from you soon !

Hi and welcome to the forum!
Any SATA drive that is 2.5'' wide and 9.5mm high will work in your T500. The drive you linked to meets the requirement and thus will work.
For removal and installation instructions, have a look here:- http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/migr-71568.html
