Considerations on migrating from TDM PRI's to SIP Trunking?

Hello,
We are planning a migration from traditional TDM PRI's to SIP trunking for inbound toll-free and outbound LD telephone traffic. Currently, we have 7 x PRI's connected to a 3945 router feeding our CUCM 8.6 system. This works fine. We are planning on making use of a 100 Mb data circuit to bring in SIP service from our carrier. This would terminate on our 3945 voice gateway. We would have roughly the same number of SIP concurrent call paths as we have PRI channels (162).
I know that the 3945 makes heavy use of DSP resources to handle the PRI traffic. Are DSP resources needed for SIP traffic as well?
Will the SIP usage (162 SIP concurrent call paths) cause similar router utilization as the PRI's (router CPU, memory, etc.)?
What are other things we should look out for in this migration?
Thank you!
Brian

1. Just to add to the excellent tip provided by George (+5), Here is the capacity matrix for the 3900 gateways. Your 3945 can support 950 concurrent calls. So in terms of capacity, you are well taken care of.

2. You should definitely make provisions for dsps. You may need DSPs for MTP, xcoding, etc. Especially with SIP, MTP may be needed for DTMF mistmatch, supplementary services etc
3. One of the most important thing to consider is the codec you will use for your calls. Your users are used to PSTN (TDM). Using G711 on your sip calls is not even the same as the traditional PSTN. The quality will be noticeable. Using G729 is going to be distinct. I have seen where users complain of this during a deployment. Using G729 will be a rude shock and they may not like it.
4. You also need to consider your analogue options etc FAX. What fax protocol does your ITSP support etc...We have been sued before by a customer because their fax machines didnt work. The ITSP said it supported T.38 while in reality it didnt.
5. In terms of memory utilization and CPU, I will think that it should be less for IP-IP call. This is because in an IP-TDM call, your router is constantly encoding via your dsp the IP payload (codecs) to TDM  for transimissiont ot he PSTN. This wont be happening any more.

  • Not receiving the 486 message from CUCM to Genesys via SIP trunk.

I have setup where Genesys is used along with CUCM 9.1
Below is the snapshot how it will look for call flow.
PRI----V.G----CUCM---SIP trunk (created in CUCM)-----Geneys server.
Query here is for outbound call from SIP softphone to PSTN, where if the PSTN user cancel the call.
the SIP phone is still assuming the call is continuing and after 40 sec its getting disconnected.
after looking in to the sip traces... it looks like that SIP trunk from cucm is not sending the user busy message 486....
(checked in V.G and its giving user busy)...but in the CUCM its not getting sent to the genesys...
After some time in genesys server itself send the 480 Temporarily Not Available message...
I assume I  should get the 486 message from CUCM to genesys when the PSTN party disconnect the call without answering.
    Please assist.

From logs what i can see is after one min call legs stops transmitting and receiving packets.
You certainly need to check this Genesys support for this behavior , as far as I know  there is no problem either with the CUCM or with VG.

When u delete the request in ODS or CUBE u want to delete the available data on those targets.
For deleting the datas in the targets u just right click on the ods or cube and give delete data so that if there is a data in the target it gets deleted. this is the main step u want to do when u reconstrcut the request and after doing this u can direclty schedule data to the target.
In targets after completing the data transfer process activate it to get that data in report also. dont forget to do this

  • Migration from G4 iMac to new(ish) Macbook

My daughter is graduating HS (yay!) and going to a great college in the fall (double yay!) and her grandma has given her a nearly-new white MacBook (2.16Ghz) (triple yay!) as a graduation present. Grandma, bless her heart, decided she needed a faster machine. Some people buy sports cars, Grandma likes having the newest and sleekest Mac. We love Grandma!
I am reading up on the steps to help daughter migrate her data from the G4 iMac (which also came from grandma) to the Macbook. It seems fairly simple, and I've done Target Disk before so don't think I can go far wrong but if anyone can check/correct these steps:
    1. Backup everything important from the iMac. (mainly her photo and music libraries as all her work is HS related and she's happy to be rid of it) DONE
    2. MacBook has grandma's account and preferences set, so we should restore from the install disks to get a fresh start. Right?
    3. Once the MacBook is set up with her new account, migrate her stuff over via TDM. I think Migration Assistant won't work due to the disparity between machines.
    4. De-authorize the iMac from our family iTunes account (already maxed out) and authorize the MacBook.
    5. Install any needed software (MS Office & ?) from disks or .dmg.
    6. Either pass iMac on to sibling or completely wipe it and sell it for $10. It has some ailment that is causing me to have to reset the PMU, so I suspect imminent component failure. Excellent time to upgrade!
Thanks for any tips, suggestions, or corrections!
    Alan

Please read the following about migrating from a PPC to an Intel Mac:
A Basic Guide for Migrating to Intel-Macs
If you are migrating a PowerPC system (G3, G4, or G5) to an Intel-Mac be careful what you migrate. Keep in mind that some items that may get transferred will not work on Intel machines and may end up causing your computer's operating system to malfunction.
Rosetta supports "software that runs on the PowerPC G3, G4, or G5 processor that are built for Mac OS X". This excludes the items that are not universal binaries or simply will not work in Rosetta:
Classic Environment, and subsequently any Mac OS 9 or earlier applications
    Screensavers written for the PowerPC
    System Preference add-ons
    All Unsanity Haxies
    Browser and other plug-ins
    Contextual Menu Items
Applications which specifically require the PowerPC G5
    Kernel extensions
Java applications with JNI (PowerPC) libraries
See also What Can Be Translated by Rosetta.
In addition to the above you could also have problems with migrated cache files and/or cache files containing code that is incompatible.
If you migrate a user folder that contains any of these items, you may find that your Intel-Mac is malfunctioning. It would be wise to take care when migrating your systems from a PowerPC platform to an Intel-Mac platform to assure that you do not migrate these incompatible items.
If you have problems with applications not working, then completely uninstall said application and reinstall it from scratch. Take great care with Java applications and Java-based Peer-to-Peer applications. Many Java apps will not work on Intel-Macs as they are currently compiled. As of this time Limewire, Cabos, and Acquisition are available as universal binaries. Do not install browser plug-ins such as Flash or Shockwave from downloaded installers unless they are universal binaries. The version of OS X installed on your Intel-Mac comes with special compatible versions of Flash and Shockwave plug-ins for use with your browser.
The same problem will exist for any hardware drivers such as mouse software unless the drivers have been compiled as universal binaries. For third-party mice the current choices are USB Overdrive or SteerMouse. Contact the developer or manufacturer of your third-party mouse software to find out when a universal binary version will be available.
Also be careful with some backup utilities and third-party disk repair utilities. Disk Warrior 4.1, TechTool Pro 4.6.1, SuperDuper 2.5, and Drive Genius 2.0.2 work properly on Intel-Macs with Leopard. The same caution may apply to the many "maintenance" utilities that have not yet been converted to universal binaries. Leopard Cache Cleaner, Onyx, TinkerTool System, and Cocktail are now compatible with Leopard.
Before migrating or installing software on your Intel-Mac check MacFixit's Rosetta Compatibility Index.

Transferring data with Setup Assistant - Migration Assistant FAQ
Because Migration Assistant isn't the ideal way to migrate from PowerPC to Intel Macs, using Target Disk Mode, copying the critical contents to CD and DVD, an external hard drive, or networking
will work better when moving from PowerPC to Intel Macs. The initial section below discusses Target Disk Mode. It is then followed by a section which discusses networking with Macs that lack Firewire.
If both computers support the use of Firewire then you can use the following instructions:
    1. Repair the hard drive and permissions using Disk Utility.
    2. Backup your data. This is vitally important in case you make a mistake or there's some other problem.
    3. Connect a Firewire cable between your old Mac and your new Intel Mac.
    4. Startup your old Mac in Target Disk Mode.
    5. Startup your new Mac for the first time, go through the setup and registration screens, but do NOT migrate data over. Get to your desktop on the new Mac without migrating any new data over.
If you are not able to use a Firewire connection (for example you have a Late 2008 MacBook that only supports USB:)
    1. Set up a local home network: Creating a small Ethernet Network.
    2. If you have a MacBook Air or Late 2008 MacBook see the following:

Copy the following items from your old Mac to the new Mac:
In your /Home/ folder: Documents, Movies, Music, Pictures, and Sites folders.
    In your /Home/Library/ folder:
/Home/Library/Application Support/AddressBook (copy the whole folder)
/Home/Library/Application Support/iCal (copy the whole folder)
Also in /Home/Library/Application Support (copy whatever else you need including folders for any third-party applications)
    /Home/Library/Keychains (copy the whole folder)
    /Home/Library/Mail (copy the whole folder)
    /Home/Library/Preferences/ (copy the whole folder)
/Home /Library/Calendars (copy the whole folder)
/Home /Library/iTunes (copy the whole folder)
/Home /Library/Safari (copy the whole folder)
    If you want cookies:
    /Home/Library/Cookies/Cookies.plist
    /Home/Library/Application Support/WebFoundation/HTTPCookies.plist
    For Entourage users:
Entourage is in /Home/Documents/Microsoft User Data
    Also in /Home/Library/Preferences/Microsoft
Credit goes to Macjack for this information.
If you need to transfer data for other applications please ask the vendor or ask in the Discussions where specific applications store their data.
    5. Once you have transferred what you need restart the new Mac and test to make sure the contents are there for each of the applications.

  • Should I restart the migration from my iMac to my new MacBook Pro?

    Hi everyone,
I've been a Mac user for many years now but I'm stuck with my current situation.
I've just received my new MacBook Pro 13" 2.4Ghz and it's the first Mac I've owned for many years without Firewire. In the past transferring everything to a new Mac was simple but with this current migration I'm stuck.
My MBP is connected to my iMac via my wifi network and everything seemed to be going to plan, albeit with a long estimated completion time (88 hours & 33 minutes for I guess approximately 200 or so gig of data). Now I'm over 24 hours into the migration and both computers are saying the same message ("Transferring documents for the user Elliot Pearson") and still with the 88 hour remaining time. The 'candystripe' bar is still moving on both but there's no way of seeing if anything is actually happening.
What I want to know is whether it is worth, or indeed dangerous to, disconnect the transfer and start again potentially leaving incomplete or corrupted files. If the above seems normal and I just have to wait it out then I don't want to have to start again from scratch!
Is it possible to connect the two via ethernet to do the transfer as I only remember being given the option for wifi which will inevitably be slower.
Any advice you can give me will be much appreciated!
    Elliot

The MBP has a Firewire port. There's no need to migrate over a network nor would I recommend it.
Use Target Disk Mode - Transferring files between two computers using FireWire. Boot the computer from which you are migrating into TDM. Boot the MBP normally after which you should find the hard drive icon for the other computer on the Desktop. Open Migration Assistant in the Utilities folder, select "Another drive" as the source then select the drive of the iMac.
You can abort the transfer which will mainly leave the MBP in an unknown state for what has already been migrated. In this case I would simply locate the /Users/ folder and delete whatever is in there so you can start fresh with the migration.
Of course you can leave everything alone until it's completed. I don't know how many GBs you are migrating, but using wireless is extremely slow - even at 802.11n speed it's 1/4 the speed of a USB drive connected directly.

  • How long should it take a well-qualified server admin to migrate from Tiger to Lion...

How long should it take a well-qualified server admin to migrate from Tiger to Lion...
For a small company, if the Tiger server is running on a G4 Tower:
    -Roughly 500GB in user files
-Data resides on old-school ATA drives
    -OD Master - Kerberized
    -AFP
    -Mobile Homes
    -DHCP
    -DNS (for 2 domains)
    -FTP
    -iChat
    -Mail (non SSL)
    -NetBoot
    -Print Server
    -SWUPD
    -VPN
    -Hosting website using MySQL
    -User & Computer Management
    Considerations/Hurdles/Challenges:
-Tossing old G4 into garbage, upgrading Mini client to Snow Leopard, adding Lion iMac client to the LAN
-Fresh OS installs on the Mini and iMac
-Upgrading from CAT5 to CATE on the LAN (not it the walls - just loose cables)
-All new hardware must be sourced out (take some time to price compare)
-Must find a way to transfer data from ATA drives to SATA drives or Lion Server
-Company must not have any email downtime (MX Records to be modified on DNS Providers site)
-Servers hostname goes from "companyserver.company.com" to "server.company.com"
    -ISP blocks some SMTP ports
-DNS Provider doesn't support TSL/SSL SMTP
-Implementing a switch into the network
-Implementing a new router (for firewall and NAT) from ISP
    Upgrading to Lion Mini Server
    -All the same services
    -Using SSL
-Implementing Mobile Device Enrolment and Deployment
That should just about cover it. I'll add any other details/hurdles as they come to mind.
Can you guys give me your best guesstimate as to how many hours you think this job should take? I'd appreciate any feedback as to how long you guys think it'd take you to make this transition. I'm trying to plan, and we're going to be down-and-out, the boss NEEDS to know for how long.!
    Thanks in advance guys!

It's about a gigabyte, so if you have a slow connection, it might take some time.
But - you shouldn't be getting the beach ball - that's a different thing.
Can you do open Activity Monitor, or is it stuck completely?

  • Migrating from Palm - roadmap?

Can anyone point me to a roadmap for migrating from Palm to iPhone, in this forum or on the web? It would be really useful as a sticky or FAQ IMHO.
Of course I can do the easy bit of calendar and contacts (did it already for my wife when she transferred), but now that I have an iPhone too I need to deal with the to dos and notes, which in my case are a considerable amount of data - my wife had none to speak of so it wasn't an issue.
The todos in Mail seem to work kind of OK, but I really don't like the Notes being in the inbox. And I have no idea how to get them from the Palm into Mail, even I wanted to.
What other software is available to handle Todos and Notes on the iPhone/Mac OS X?
    TIA
    Nic

Exporting Palm Calendar (Date Book): you should have in the Export dialog box the option of changing the export format from "Palm Desktop" to "vCal".
vCal (.vcs) files will import into iCal. You can also bring them into Entourage (not through the Import dialog box, but by dragging the .vcs file onto the Entourage icon in the dock).
You will almost certainly lose category information, if you were using any.
Exporting Palm Addresses: choose the vCard format, which Apple's Address Book will recognise (ditto Entourage if you take that option). But I see you've succeeded with that part.
Exporting Tasks: this gets tricky as Apple doesn't have a stand alone tasks or to do app and the to do function in iCal is a bit underwhelming. You'll be able to export Palm Tasks in "Tab & Return" format, which means you could open them in a word processing or spreadsheet program. I doubt you'd be able to get them into iCal with any ease. You may have better luck importing tasks into Entourage, which does have a proper Tasks function, but that's not something I've tried to do.
Exporting Notes/Memo: as with Tasks, your option is using the "Tab & Return" format. You may need a 3rd-party notes program if you don't want to use Entourage Notes.

  • Migration from 350 G4 Mac

I have just gotten a new MacBook Pro and I need to migrate from my previous Mac. I have a 350MHz G4 Mac running 10.3.9. It has firewire but when I reboot holding down the T key (as instructed by the migration assistant) it just boots normally. When I look for rebooting as a target disk it doesn't give me that option. What am I missing? Or is it just that my old Mac is just a dinosaur? What are my options?
    Thanks

Start with Best Practices If the G4 won't go into TDM (see http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1661 for details), then use Disk Utility, restore it to an external FireWire HD, and use it instead.

  • Migrating from DHCP 2003 to DHCP 2012

    Hi,
i'm planning to migrate from DHCP 2003 to DHCP 2012 or DHCP 2012 R2 failover.
    Saw those instructions:
    extract the configuration in .TXT
netsh dhcp server export c:\temp\dhcp.txt all
copy this file on your server 2012 in temp or elsewhere
import the configuration with this command
netsh dhcp server import c:\temp\dhcp.txt all
if you have the error "TLS supported but not configured"
remove all the option in "Server Option" like 003 Router 006 DNS SERVERS and put it back after doing the import
    now i have some questions:
    1. is it recommended to build 2 2012 DHCP configured as failover on virtual machines ? (hyper-V)
    2. do those dhcp servers have to or recommended to be DNS also or can they be only DHCP servers ?
    3. my AD functionality level is 2003 - is it a problem for this migration ?
    4. virtual or physical ? whats is recommended ?
    5. any other considerations ?
    TNX

    Hi,
Virtual or physical will both work. It doesn't matter, as long as the two servers can communicate with each other.
You do not need DNS installed on the same server, but you can install it without hurting anything.
I believe that the AD level has no effect because you can have DHCP failover even on workgroup computers.

  • Any example customer has migrated from Oralce Forms to ADF?

Any benchmark or how many customers have done the migration from Forms to ADF?
Btw, is all kind of Froms convertible by Froms2ADF tools ?
    thanks for any suggestion.

Here is my view on this:
In general, people tend to underestimate the effort involved in migrating from Forms to ADF.
Migration tools like the JHeadstart Forms2ADF Generator can be of help, but are by no means a silver bullet.
    When does JHeadstart save time
The amount of work that can be saved by using the JHeadstart Forms2ADF Generator (JFG) very much depends on the structure of the Oracle Forms application at hand. The JHeadstart Forms2ADF Generator provides most savings for forms that have the following characteristics:
    - Standard-Forms data retrieval and data manipulation through blocks based on database tables, with master-detail relations defined between the block
    - Complex user interface, many (stacked) canvasses, many tabs, many list of values, and other display types
    - PL/SQL logic mostly limited to user interface dynamics: conditionally showing/hiding user interface items, and conditionally changing the properties of user interface items. While JHeadstart does not convert PL/SQL logic, this type of logic is easily implemented in the ADF application because JHeadstart provides many declarative property settings to implement this behavior.
    PL.SQL Logic
JHeadstart has made the deliberate choice to not automatically convert the PL/SQL logic to Java. The reasons for this are:
    - It is impossible to automate the migration of a two-tier architecture (logic in Forms or in the database) to a three tier Model-View-Controller architecture as is common in JEE web applications, including ADF-based applications.
    - The architecture of the converted application should be identical to the best-practice architecture of an ADF application that is build from scratch. If the architecture is the same, the same skill set can be used to maintain both migrated applications and ADF applications build from scratch. In addition, by going for a best practice architecture, the application is more flexible, and can be maintained easier at lower cost.
    - When using the JHeadstart Forms2ADF Generator, you get this best-practice ADF architecture that is identical to ADF/JHeadstart applications that are built from scratch.
    Other Forms2ADF Considerations
Even if it turns out the JFG adds value, there are many other questions the customer should ask himself before embarking on a Foms2ADF project. For example:
    - Apart from technical reasons like old Forms verisions no longer supported, are there real business reasons and business benefits for migrating that justify the migration effort?
    - To what extent is the application still meeting functional requirements?
    - Are there issues with stability and end user friendliness?
    - Old forms applications are typical "window-on-data" screens, you see the structure of the datamodel through the layout of the screens. Modern web 2.0 composite applications are more task-oriented with good support for human workflow. The customer should consider to what extent it wants to leverage all these new user interfaces capabilities that come with ADF Faces and WebCenter.
    - How does the application fits in the overall IT landscape of the customer? What interfaces to other systems exist, what (old/obsolete?) technology is used to implement those interfaces?
    - What about batch functionality and reporting facilities?
    - May be part of the functionality of the current system can be replaced with standard off-the-shelf software?
    - How sound, well structured and future proof is the underlying datamodel?
    - To what extent is the customer looking at service-orientated architectures? Whats the SOA maturity level of the customer?
    - Above questions help to answer the key question: how desirable and beneficial is it to migrate an old monolitic forms application 1:1 to a monolitic ADF aplication? How does that fit in overall IT strategy?
    - Organisational isues: who will migrate the system, who will maintain the system? Is outsourcing considered? etc.
    Some customer experiences
Over the years I have been involved with a number of customers that migrated from Forms to ADF. With some of these customers we used the Forms2ADF Generator in the proof-of-concept phase to convince them of the combined power of ADF and JHeadstart. However, with NONE of these customers we used the Forms2ADF Generatpr during actual migration, for various reasons as listed above. All customers eventually chose to truly re-engineer the application while rebuilding in ADF achieving signifcant new business benefits that justified the investment. A choice recommended and encouraged by me, despite the fact I am the creator of the JFG. Note that ALL customers use JHeadstart heavily forbuilding the re-engineered ADF application, they just don't use the Forms2ADF generator, but the JHeadstart Application generator to create the ADF app from scratch.

How can I migrate from a standard store setup in a splitted setup described in
    https://wikis.oracle.com/display/CommSuite/Best+Practices+for+Messaging+Server+and+ZFS
can a 'reconstruct' run do the migration or have I do a
    imsbackup - imsrestore ?

If your new setup would use the same filesystem layout as the old one (i.e. directory paths to the files would be the same when your migration is complete) you can just copy the existing store into the new structure, rename the old store directory into some other name, and mount the new hierarchy instead of it (zfs set mountpoint=...). The CommSuite Wiki also includes pages on more complex migrations, such as splitting the user populace into several stores (on different storage) and/or separate mailhosts. That generally requires that you lock the user in LDAP (perhaps deferring his incoming mail for later processing into the new location), migrate his mailbox, rewrite the pointers from LDAP, reenable account. The devil is in the details, for both methods. For the latter, see Wiki; for the former I'll elaborate a bit here
    1) To avoid any surprises, you should stop the messaging services before making the filesystem switch, finalize the data migration (probably with prepared data already mostly correct in the new hierarchy before you shut down the server, just resync'ing the recent changes into new structure), make the switch and reenable the server. If this is a lightly-used server which can tolerate some downtime - good for you If it is a production server, you should schedule some time when it is not very used so you can shut it down, and try to be fast - so perhaps practice on a test system or a clone first.
I'd strongly recommend taking this adventure in small reversible steps, using snapshots and backups, and renaming old files and directories instead of removing them - until you're sure it all works, at least.
    2) If your current setup already includes a message store on ZFS, and it is large enough for size to be a problem, you can save some time and space by tricks that lead to direct re-use of existing files as if they are the dataset with a prepopulated message store.
    * If this is a single dataset with lots of irrelevant data (i.e. one dataset for the messaging local zone root with everything in it, from OS to mailboxes) you can try zfs-cloning a snapshot of the existing filesystem and moving the message files to that clone's root (eradicating all irrelevant directories and files on the clone). Likewise, you'd remove the mailbox files on the original system (when the time is right, and after sync-ing).
    * If this is already a dedicated store dataset which contains the directories like dbdata/    mboxlist/  partition/ session/   and which you want to split further to store just some files (indices, databases) separately, you might find it easier to just make new filesystem datasets with proper recordsizes and relocate these files there, and move the partition/primary to the remaining dataset's root, as above. In our setups, the other directories only take up a few megabytes and are not worth the hassle of cloning - which you can also do for larger setups (i.e. make 4 clones and make different data at each one's root). Either way, when you're done, you can and should make sure that these datasets can mount properly into the hierarchy, yielding the pathnames you need.
    3) You might also look into separating the various log-file directories into datasets, perhaps with gzip-9 compression. In fact, to reduce needed IOPS and disk space at expense of available CPU-time, you might use lightweight compression (lzjb) on all messaging data, and gzip on WORM data sets - local zone, but not global OS, roots; logs; etc. Structured databases might better be left without compression, especially if you use reduced record sizes - they might just not compress enough to make a difference, just burning CPU cycles. Though you could look into "zle" compression which would eliminate strings of null bytes only - there's lots of these in fresh database files.
    4) If you need to recompress the data as suggested in point (3), or if you migrate from some other storage to ZFS, rsync may be your friend (at least, if your systems don't rely on ZFS/NFSv4 ACLs - in that case you're limited to Solaris tar or cpio, or perhaps to very recent rsync versions which claim ACL support). Namely, I'd suggest "rsync -acvPHK --delete-after $SRC/ $DST/" with maybe some more flags added for your needs. This would retain the hardlink structure which Messaging server uses a lot, and with "-c" it verifies file contents to make sure you've copied everything over (i.e. if a file changes without touching the timestamp).
Also, if you were busy preparing the new data hierarchy with a running server, you'd need to rsync old data to new while the services are down. Note that reading and comparing the two structures can take considerable time - translating to downtime for the services.
Note that if you migrate from ZFS to ZFS (splitting as described in (2)), you might benefit from "zfs diff" if your ZFS version supports it - this *should* report all ofjects that changes since the named snapshot, and you can try to parse and feed this to rsync or some other migration tool.
Hope this helps and you don't nuke your system,
    //Jim Klimov

  • Renaming TFS Server name upon migration from TFS 2010 to TFS 2012

We are migrating from TFS 2010 on existing server to TFS 2012 on new server. All components (TFS 2012, SQL 2012, SPS 2010) are directly on the new server similar to existing server (TFS 2010, SQL 2008 R2, WSS 3.0).
The new server has a new name, however the service provider that does the actual migration,
    wants to rename
the new server to be same name as the name of the original existing server when it is shutdown. The rename is intended to be done using
    netdom utility.
I noticed there are articles by microsoft and others that describe various issues that may arrise as
result of TFS server rename. However service provider still plans to rename based on his field experience and best practices.
What do u recommend to do in this aspect ? Why would it be necessary to rename and not use the new name (DNS can map old name as well to the new IP) ? What are the actual risks in such rename and is it worth it ?
    Thank u

    Hi Cathy,
    Thank u for your reply.
We know that renaming the new server to the same name as the original one, is
not a must for the migration to work. The issue in question is as follows :
    1. A Microsoft partner that has hands on experience in TFS migration, and planned to migrate for us, recommends to rename the new server name, to the original server name, utilizing net_dom command, and to do it during / after  same procedure u
    provided link to.
    2. We found Microsoft documentation that cautions about renaming the server, e.g. renaming SQL server which is in our case on same machine where TFS 2012 is to be installed. However, the partner urges us to rename, explaining that net_dom should perform
the rename safely without caution risk.
Kindly let u sknow if Micorsoft considers such rename with net_dom to be a good
practice in low risk for such migration,
or better keep the new server name as it is and just map the old server name in DNS to the IP of the new server.
    Thank u.

  • Creation of domain issues - migration from weblogic 10.3.0 to 10.3.5 versio

    Hello,
i would like to kindly ask for a help with following issue:
Basically we are migrating from the 10.3.0 to the 10.3.5 version. We are building the domain using the template in "silent mode". And when i try to create the domain with new weblogic 10.3.5 im getting some errors.
The command to run the creation of the domain is following:
    ${WL_HOME}/common/bin/config.sh -mode=silent -silent_script=${SILENT_SCRIPT} -log=${WLLOGFILE} >> ${LOGFILE} 2>&1
    returnCode=$?
    SILENT_SCRIPT contains following commands:
    read template from "/local/wg372/BM/appl/config/NEW_DOMAIN_CONFIGURED.jar";
    write domain to "/local/wg372/BM/appl/BmDomain";
    set OverwriteDomain "true";
    close template;
When i setup new env(solaris) with weblogic 10.3.5 im getting following error when the silent_script command (*write domain to "/local/wg372/BM/appl/BmDomain";*) is executed:

I tried to google for this issue, look into the weblogic documentation but with no luck.
So i would like to kindly ask, if anyone of you perhaps could give me a hint/advise with this problem.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
thanks for the reply but im not sure if we are talking about the same thing. What i need is to upgrade the weblogic "DOMAIN" not the weblogic installation itself.
    Anyway,
after some googling and testing im again stucked with another issue:
    1. First i have created the old doman (10.3.0)
    2. Then i have tested the domain with the new weblogic version 10.3.5 - as it should be (and is) compatible within those 2 versions
    ---> worked fine
    3. Then via offline WLST(of weblogic 10.3.5) i have managed to create new template with command writeTemplate(nameOfTemplate.jar)
    4. But when i try to create the new domain with the new template via WLST(of weblogic 10.3.5) im again stucked (im able to read the template in wlst but not able to writeDomain ) - error:
    wls:/offline> readTemplate('/home/wg372/tmp/new_template.jar')
    wls:/offline/BmDomain>writeDomain('/home/wg372/tmp/new_domain')
Error: writeDomain() failed. Do dumpStack() to see details.

I tried to have a look around for the "The application location must have write permission." problem but again with no luck.
Furthemore when i try to do the same with old domain template, with old version of WLST (of weblogic 10.3.0), i have no problems with creating of the domain.
    Any ideas?
    Ill keep you updated :-)

  • Removing Public Folders after migration from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013

Recently we migrated from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013.  We did not migrate Public Folders and are retiring them from Exchange altogether.  I shut Exchange 2007 off for a couple of weeks to ensure 2013 functions properly and it does so we're
ready to decommission Exchange 2007.  I was able to remove all the mailbox databases without a glitch.  Using the EMC I click to remove the Public Folder database from Exchange 2007 and get the following message:
Error: The public folder database "server\storage group - Public Folders\ Public Folder Database" contains folder replicas.  Before deleting the public folder database, remove the folders or move the replicas to another public folder database.
    Any help appreciated.

    Hi Terry,
If you run the following command does it come back with any public folders?
    Get-PublicFolderStatistics -Server "SERVERNAME" | fl
If nothing comes back you can follow this guide to manually remove the public folder database (at your own risk) http://haythamalex.wordpress.com/2011/11/24/how-to-force-exchange-server-public-folder-removal/
    Cheers,
    Jack
I get alot of output from that command.

  • ActiveSync stops working after migrating from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013

We have started the migration from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013. We've followed best practices and everything is working great except ActiveSync. I've performed Exchange migrations in the past so this is nothing new for me. I've also been referring to
a great guide which has been a big help,
    http://www.msexchange.org/articles-tutorials/exchange-server-2013/migration-deployment/planning-and-migrating-small-organization-exchange-2007-2013-part1.html.
Once a user is migrated from Exchange 2007 to 2013, ActiveSync stops working properly. Email can be pulled to the device (Nokia Lumia 625 running Windows Phone 8) by performing a manual sync. But DirectPush is not working. The strange part is it's not affecting
everyone who's been migrated. Anyone who is still on Exchange 2007 is not affected.
At first I thought it was our wildcard certificate. 99% of our users are running Outlook 2013 on Windows 7 or higher but we do have a few terminal servers still running Outlook 2010. Outlook 2010 was giving us certificate errors. I realized it was the wildcard
certificate. Rather than making changes to the OutlookProvider I simply obtained a new SAN certificate. Although that resolved the issues for Outlook 2010 users, ActiveSync was still a problem.
Rebooting the phones and removing the email account from the user's device and re-adding it didn't resolve the issue either.
Then I performed an iisreset on the CAS server. This didn't help either. I didn't know it at the time, but I was getting closer...
I tried using the cmdlet Test-ActiveSyncConnectivity but it gave me the following error:
WARNING: Test user 'extest_0d9a45b025374' isn't accessible, so this cmdlet won't be able to test Client Access server
    connectivity.
Could not find or sign in with user DOMAIN.com\extest_0d9a45b025374. If this task is being run without
credentials, sign in as a Domain Administrator, and then run Scripts\new-TestCasConnectivityUser.ps1 to verify that
the user exists on Mailbox server EX02.DOMAIN.COM
I started reviewing how Exchange 2013 proxied information from the CAS to the mailbox server and realized the issue may in fact be on the mailbox server.
I performed an iisreset on the mailbox server and all of a sudden ActiveSync started working again. Awesome!
I can't explain why. The only thing I can assume is when some users were migrated from 2007 to 2013 something wasn't being triggered on the Exchange 2013 side. Resetting IIS resolved the issue. I guess I'll have to do an IIS reset after I perform a batch
of migrations. Disabling ActiveSync and re-enabling it for the affected users didn't help - only the IISRESET resolved the issue.
If anyone has any information as to why this happens, please chime in. Also, if anyone knows why I can't run the Test-ActiveSyncConnectivity cmdlet, I'd appreciate the help.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
In Exchange 2013, the Public Folder is changed to Public Folder mailbox instead of Public Folder in Exchange 2007 database.
Due to the changes in how public folders are stored, legacy Exchange mailboxes are unable to access the public folder hierarchy on Exchange 2013 servers. However, user mailboxes on Exchange 2013 servers or Exchange Online can connect to legacy
public folders. Exchange 2013 public folders and legacy public folders can’t exist in your Exchange organization simultaneously. This effectively means that
    there’s no coexistence between versions.
For this reason, it’s recommended that prior to migrating your public folders, you should
first migrate your all legacy mailboxes to Exchange 2013. For more information about migrating public folder from previous versions, please refer to:
