Considering a MacBook Pro with iPhone 3GS

Hi everyone,
I'm sure this question has been asked at least a million times but I'm just a little confused still. I have never used a Mac before and I'm considering getting a MacBook Pro for my birthday. I have the iPhone 3GS that is currently synced to my PC. I also currently use MobileMe for my calendar, email and contacts. I have all of my music on my iTunes on my PC, both purchased from iTunes and imported CD's that I've had along the way. My question is when I get the MBP and I transfer all of my music from my PC to the MBP (via flash drive), when I plug my iPhone in for the first time to sync, how will my contacts, calendar, email and apps get to the iPhone? Will I need to do anything special to make sure that I do not lose everything that I currently have on my iPhone?
I want to thank anyone who takes the time to explain this process to me and again, I'm sorry if it's already been answered before. I just hate to spend the money on the MBP and end up losing all of my stuff from my iPhone and having to put it all back in manually, that's a lot of re-entry when my whole life is in my iPhone =)
Thanks again!
Rhonda

You can transfer your iTunes library from your PC to your new Mac.
Best to transfer the entire iTunes named folder from your PC to your new Mac, which stores all iTunes data - music and album artwork, playlists, playcount, video, podcasts, and 3rd party apps. On a PC, the iTunes folder is located in your Music folder, which I believe is located in the Documents folder. You will need an external drive or a flash drive that has enough storage capacity to copy the entire iTunes folder intact.
You will need to authorize your new Mac with your iTunes account with iTunes first. With iTunes quit, place the iTunes named folder from your PC in your Music folder on your Mac. When launching iTunes after doing so, your iTunes library will be identical to your iTunes library on your PC without having to do anything else.
Since you are syncing contacts and calendar events over the air with your MobileMe account on your iPhone, enter your MobileMe account info at System Preferences > MobileMe, followed by selecting sync Calendars and Contacts under the Sync tab for your MobileMe account preferences, which will be synced with the Address Book and iCal on your Mac. Or you can add your MobileMe account with the Mail.app on your Mac and I believe this will add your MobileMe account info at System Preferences > MobileMe automatically.
I venture to say you will like using a Mac so much better. I recently purchased a new MBP. The LED screen is phenomenal - the best on any portable computer I have used and I've used quite a few over the years - Mac and PC, and I think the best screen overall compared to any standalone monitor I've used.

  • Connect macbook pro with iphone 5 via bluetooth

I have macbook pro and Iphone 5 both have bluetooth turned on. When I go in to Macbook Pro I can see my Iphone 5. When I go into my Iphone 5 it shows as discoverable and searching.....What am I doing wrong? The Macbook won't connect and sync with Iphone and vice versa unless I have a usb cable attached.

    Hello bstaab,
Thank you for posting in the Apple Support Communities.  To wirelessly sync your iPhone with iTunes, you need to be connected using a Wi-Fi network.  I found an article that has the steps outlined on how to sync your iPhone wirelessly with iTunes:
    Wi-Fi syncing
    Open iTunes
To set up Wi-Fi syncing, connect your iOS device to your computer with the included USB cable. Select your device under Devices on the left-hand side.
In the Summary tab, select "Sync with this [device] over Wi-Fi".
Whenever the computer and the iOS device are on the same network, the iOS device will appear in iTunes, and you can sync it. The iOS device will sync automatically when all of the following are true:
The iOS device is plugged in to power
iTunes is open on the computer
The iOS device and the computer are on the same Wi-Fi network
While the iOS device appears in the left-hand column of iTunes, you can select the content tabs and configure sync options.
Click Apply or Sync to sync the iOS device.
You can find the full article here:

    I hope this helps!

  • I can't sync my new MacBook Pro with iPhone

I got a new MacBook Pro with Lion OS and cannot make it sync to my iPhone G3

Can you be a little more specific? Do you mean you have set the sync options on the Device pages, Clicked Sync and it does not work, or you can't find the sync pages.

  • How can i connect macbook pro with iphone 4 via bluetooth?

I`ve connected iphone with macbook pro few weeks ago for i-net surfing, but i had to use cable. Now i wanna try icloud, and i`ve faced that trouble. My mbp sees iphone, makes pair, but fails to connect it. If i try it with iphone, a message "mbp cant be connected, it isn`t connectible device"-something like this- appears and mbp disappears from known devices list. How can i solve that?

I have somehow the same problem. I just bought the new iPhone 4S and tried to connect it to my MacBook Pro (OS X 10.6, latest version, model 2011). The Phone did not see the Mac but the Mac the Phone, so I connected the Phone via Mac.
It worked for about 5 seconds, but then I got this error message:
It's German and means that the network is not available.
Of course I tried again to connect, but I now get always this error:
It says that the device is not available...
I deleted the iPhone from the list under Mac and tried again, but it's still the same.
No my Questions to the community:
Why does the iPhone not see the MacBook?
    Why does it allways disconnect?
Is Sync not possible via Bluetooth?
    Thanks for your help!

  • I've upgraded from PC to MacBook Pro and iPhone 3GS to iPhone 4 - HELP!!!

I am currently using a PC and have my iPhone 3GS synced to that unit.
I decided to upgrade my PC to a MacBook Pro two days ago and have received my new iPhone 4 today.
My question is – how am I able to get my current iPhone 3GS back up that is on my PC on to my new MacBook pro so that I can sync my music/contacts/notes/messages etc to my new iPhone 4?
I have avoided syncing my current iPhone 3GS to the new MacBook as I knew I would be receiving my iPhone 4 this week.
Please help – Losing my iPhone data is not an option as I have extremely important contacts/text messages that I need to keep for legal reasons. I really do not want to have to lose all of my data because I have upgraded and purchased better technology from your company.

    I found this article:
    http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/articles/comments/moving-your-itunes-library-to -a-new-hard-drive/
but I don't know if it's got everything you that need. I think that your phone's back-up is in the files listed in the article, but I'm still a newbie myself, and so far, this is the closest fitting article that I've found. I wish I could be more assistance, I hope that article is of some help. You might want to try running a search here... there's a box to the right which will search all the discussions for the keywords you've included. I'm pretty bleary-eyed, so I may have missed a better hit than this one.
Hopefully a more experienced user will log in later this morning and see this... good luck!

  • Duplicate contacts between my ipad, my macbook pro & my iphone 3gs.

After reading some post. I decided to update manually my ipad contacts and get rid of the duplicates. then I went and deleted the complete address book from my macbook pro. now, I'm left with the updated contacts on the ipad which I have setup to sync w/icloud & the contacts that I would like to correct from the iphone. what should be my next step?
I think I should get rid of the contacts in the iphone and then leave icloud to sync the ipad contacts into the phone.
by the way I have the same problem with my calendar.
Thanks in advance for any for comments.

Thanks! Where  do I check that specifically?
Also - after playing around some more realised that my iPad mini pushes out to my iphone and macbook. So when I update contacts on my iPad it updates everywhere else.

  • Calendar frozen on Macbook Pro with Yosemite

    Hi
When trying to sync calendars on my Macbook Pro with iPhone 4S, calendars has frozen with message "Moving calendars to server account". I have to force quit to get out. Syncing had been working fine until 2 days ago. All settings on Macbook and phone are correct.
    Any suggestions?
    Adrian

Quit Calendar and also the Reminders application, if it's running. Force quit if necessary.
    Back up all data.
In the iCloud preference pane, uncheck the boxes marked Calendars and Reminders. You'll be prompted to confirm that you want to delete your iCloud calendars and reminders from the computer. They'll still be on iCloud.
    Relaunch Calendar and select
              Calendar ▹ Preferences... ▹ Accounts
Click the plus-sign button at the bottom of the account list on the left (which may now be empty) to add a new account. Select iCloud and enter your credentials. Your iCloud calendars should appear after a brief delay.
    Do the same with Reminders.

Even today, 21st Century and all, printing on Unix systems can be somewhat of a black art, and every so often a gremlin or two crawl out of the woodwork. Purging all can make sure no damaged pointers or corrupted caches linger on to make life miserable.
    Glad you're peachy now.

  • I have only loaded phone contacts in my new iPhone 5 and my email contacts only on my Macbook Pro with retina display contacts how can I keep them from changing my iPhone to email contacts only when I connect to iTunes please

Since purchasing a new iPhone 5 and macbook pro with retina display I have decided to keep the iPhone 5 for phone contacts only, and the macbook for email contacts only .. Is there a way for me to keep these as they are recorded on each apple product when I sync with iTunes as it has changed my iPhone and put in email contacts and thus deleted iPhone phone contacts once when I syncd thanks appreciate any help

To prevent your iPhone from automatically syncing when you plug it in, click on iTunes in the menu bar, then preferences, then "devices", then tick "prevent iPhones, iPad's and iPod's from syncing automatically".
Plug it in, then on the iPhone sync summary screen, click "info" along the top.
Make sure the "sync contacts" option is not ticked. as long as it's not ticked, then it won't sync with your mac's contacts but will still include them in backups.
Also, if you use iCloud, make sure that the iPhone/mac are either not signed into the same account, or that "contacts" is not turned on for both of them

  • Can I have an iPhone, ipad and MacBook Pro with the same apple id

Can I have an iPhone, ipad and MacBook Pro with the same apple id. When I use I tunes it get confusing and I have a paid app that needs the same id

When syncing the iPhone and iPad with iTunes on your computer that is logged in with the Apple ID you plan on using on all three, the Apple ID should be transferred to the iPhone and iPad for the iTunes & App Stores on each device. If not, you'll need to sign out of the existing Apple ID on the iPhone and iPad followed by signing in with the Apple ID you want to use on both.
Keep in mind that all 3rd party apps include DRM protection which is tied to the iTunes account or Apple ID that was used to download the apps. With an app installed on your iPad and iPhone that was downloaded with a different Apple ID from the one you will be using now, you will need to use that Apple ID and password to install app updates for those apps. Not possible to transfer apps purchased with one Apple ID to another or to merge Apple IDs.

  • My wife and I both have the iphone and we use my macbook pro with iTunes to sync our ipods. When I do something on my iPhone it shows on hers. How do I set up her a seperate iTunes acct on my mac so she can operate independent of me?

My wife and I both have the iphone and we use my macbook pro with iTunes to sync our ipods. When I do something on my iPhone it shows on hers. How do I set up her a seperate iTunes acct on my mac so she can operate independent of me?

There's info here on setting up separate libraries and user accounts. You won't have to reload (or re-import) all the music, just copy it.
The reason I suggest separate accounts on the Mac is because if you have the two libraries under the same user account, iTunes will also open the last library that was open in that account, and you'll always have to be mindful of which library that is. If you open iTunes and find it's not your library, you'll have quit, relaunch holding the option key and select the other library.
No, you won't have to log in and out of the Mac. (If I'm understanding your question here.) Multiple accounts can be logged in at the same time. And with fast user switching, you can toggle between user accounts.
I'll admit that maintaining the two libraries gets a little tricky, because if you share all the same music, you'll have to add it to one and update the other. (That won't happen automatically.) But I think Home Sharing makes this much easier to do.
    Hope that helps!
