Considering buying apple tv, got a question

I am really interested in buying this product, but i want to know does the apple tv only download media only from itunes? or does it work very close to front row where i can browse folders and select the videos from there. in any cases i really dont want to put my movie files all on itunes, and would like to know if that is possible to just work it like front row

i wasn't thinking third party, what i was thinking is when you activate front row. it doesn't always play what you have in itunes, you can also just browse your Movies folder in the finder. does apple tv do that as well?

  • I am considering buying apple tv

I am looking at buying apple tv and want to find out if my pioneer PDP-436HDG plasma tv is compatible as I beleive it is not hi-def, just STD def with HDMI connectivity.
If I have HDMI Connectivity does that automatically mean it will work?
    Cheers.
    Chris

If your TV is only standard definition it will not work. The Apple TV outputs a 720p signal, a standard definition TV won't undersdtand the signal.
Double check it's only SD though, it's fairly unusual for a standard definition TV to have HDMI.

  • I am considering buying apple's tech support for my iphone3GS

I upgraded my iphone to 4.1.0 which deleted all my new aps and am considering purchasing the ability to talk to their tech people whenever I have a question.
I am not technically gifted and can use help on several fronts.

"One is how to organize contacts into groups"
You do this on your computer.
"s why didn't the new aps promised when I ugrgraded to 4.0.1 did not appear."
What are you talking about? 4.0.1 was a bug fix update. There are no new anything associated with this update.
    4.0 had new features:
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/enUS/iPhone_iOS4_UserGuide.pdf
", I am leary of putting more aps on if I'm just going to lose them when I upgrade again."
On the iphone or any device/computer, you should ALWAYS backup/sync BEFORE you upgrade any software, so you do not lose you information if something goes wrong.
If you do this, then you can just sync them right back to the iphone if there is an issue with the upgrade.

  • Considering buying time capsule have some Mac address related questions

    Hi,
as mentioned above I'm considering buying a time capsule for backup and wifi purposes.
My internet providers connection depends upon a set Mac address from the first computer you register with, the system works with any router which then clones the MAC address and issues a wifi signal to all computers. I don't have access to the origional computer which we registered our connection on, it went to the great computer graveyard in the sky and I have no record of the Mac address.
I Would like to use the time capsule system as a router and remove my existing router. my questions
can the time capsule spoof or clone a Mac address ?
I Don't want to be offline while we deal with technical support as they are quite inept sometimes.
Is it in this case really plug and play ? Can I just plug it in set it up on my Mac and away it goes where other non Apple devices can use the wifi.
Without the existing router the cable that comes into the house connect directly to the ' original ' computer and the Internet only works on that computer
hope  someone can help me I would like to purchase this device

The Time Capsule cannot clone a MAC address, so quite simply, the product is not for you.

There actually is a type of "pointer" native to iOS. it's part of the AssistiveTouch feature,  used to replicate multitouch gestures with one finger. You just can't control it with a mouse.
Anyway, as far as I can discern the iPad does not use nanotechnology in any part of its construction.

  • Considering Buying an ipod

I am considering buying an ipod and have a few questions.
I have a PC with Windows XP Home Edition (SP2).
    First:
The laptop I am using is just too old to come with USB 2.0. Is it possible to use and ipod (all functions) when connected to USB 1.0? I own a PC card the gives me two USB 2.0 ports, but it is not available to me at the time but will be in a few months. I don't mind starting transfers and letting them run over night. All my music is on an external hard drive (USB 2.0) and I have access to a computer with USB 2.0 but the computer stinks and is very slow (kind of ironic). Worst case I buy a new PC card for my laptop and in a few months will have 2 (sell one on E-bay).
    Second:
Should I buy the Apple Care? Personally if I was running a business I would stand behind my product for at least 2 years without charging extra, but that is me and that philosophy makes me not want to buy it. Statistically speaking, should I. (I know there is no definite answer for this, personal stories would be ok)
    Third:
I have been debating on whether to get an ipod (20GB) or a Creative Zen Micro (5GB). $/GB is better for the ipod but the Zen micro has an FM tuner and voice recorder and is cheaper. Is there anything that could seal the deal, really make me want an ipod?
    Thanks for any help.

I was about to suggest you dump USB2 altogether and use Firewire instead, but the fact that you have an USB2 external hard drive may cause a problem. It is possible to use an iPod with USB 1.1, but it will be quite slow even when it works.
As for the choice between an iPod and a Zen, I would say an iPod is the obvious choice as it is much easier to use and iTunes is way better than other music management programs in my opinion. Also, do you really need a FM tuner and voice recording functions? Consider carefully as only you can answer this yourself. I know I don't need them.

  • I'm considering buying airport express

    Hi guys/gals,
I'm considering buying an airport express but have a few questions, I'd be grateful if anyone could help!
Current situation is I have one of the new iMacs in my house currently not near a telephone socket at wall (hence my need to go wireless). I also have an iPod Hifi situated elsewhere in the house which I would like to be able to stream music to from my iMac. (The iPod Hifi just happens to be beside a telephone socket at the wall - if this is of any benefit??)
My main concern is - does the airport express need another wireless router to access its signal or can it actually act as a router itself? if so, how do i connect to my internet connection?
Am i correct in thinking I should plug the airport express in beside the hifi so as i can obviously run the audio cable to it and if the airport express does not need another router then I can just connect it to the telephone socket beside the hifi for the internet connection?
I'm sorry if any of this is vague, any help would be appreciated!!
    Thanks in advance,
    Stephen

I am using a Mac Pro with airport extreme card in it (the card was an option)- I suppose iMacs have this card built in as standard. If so go for it. (as to how to install the AE in your case check the manual - it's pretty straight forward)
If you have a good hi-fi system (with a receiver having toslink connection) I strongly suggest you make use of the Airport Express toslink connector (you have to purchase the toslink cable (optical) cca 20 Euro if you do not have one already. The quality is unbelievable (use apple lossless codec for your files).
I do not have a receiver but an external DAC (digital to analogue converter) connected to AE with the toslink cable. The DAC is connected to my hi-fi system by RCA cable.
I just finished transfering my CD collection to an external MyBook 1TB USB 2 HDD (all files in Apple Lossless codec !) and believe me the quality is so good - I will probably never use my Hi-End DENON SACD player again...

  • I am considering buying a MBA but i need to do word processing, making power point presentations, and also to use publisher for work, does the MBA have the ability to do these things, if so will I be able to continue with work done on a MBA with a PC?

I am considering buying a mac book air and I was wondering if I can still do word processing, make powerpoint presentations and use publisher like i would on a PC? Also if I can then would I be able to continue with work done on the mac book on a PC and all the computers at school are not macs ?

I am using the 11" MBA with Office 2011 (with latest updates).  The form factor is great for travel.
Powerpoint presentations work well, but there are some issues with creating a presentation under OSX then continuing editing under Windows (Powerpoint 2010).  I've experienced problems with custom backgrounds not rendering correctly while editing slides under Windows when the original presentation was created under OSX.  If you stick with the "standard" themes I imagine you'll be OK.
Also, there is a major drawback in that there is no IR port on the new MBA(s).  Therefore, you cannot use an Apple Remote to control a slide show.  Yes, there is an app for the iPhone that can control a Keynote slide presentation using Bluetooth, but since I haven't tried it, I cannot say if that app will work for Mac Powerpoint 2011.
What is really needed is an "Apple Bluetooth Remote".  (please, if anyone from Apple is listening...)
Your only option to run Publisher is to run Windows in a virtual machine (e.g. Fusion or Parallels) with Publisher installed as there is no Mac version.
I run Fusion with Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 configured as a workstation and Office 2010 as my main travel machine and it is very responsive.  Even using Windows Aero Theme which is knowned to be graphics intensive.

    MacBook Air, 13", Mid 2013:
On June 10, 2013, Apple released an updated MacBook Air in the same form factor as the 2012 model during the company's Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC). The 11-inch and 13-inch models have a minimum standard 4GB RAM, with a maximum configuration of 8GB. Both models are powered by the Haswell ULT 1.3GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processors with Turbo Boost up to 2.6GHz and 1.7GHz Dual-Core i7 with Turbo Boost up to 3.3GHz option available. Each model has a 128GB configuration and a 256GB configuration available, with the 256GB model being upgradeable to 512GB SSD.
    1.3 GHz (Core i5) or 1.7 GHz (Core i7)
    MacBook Air, 13", Early 2014:
On April 29, 2014 Apple released an updated MacBook Air featuring faster processors and better battery life. The standard configurations also saw a price drop in most regions.
    1.4 GHz (Core i5) or 1.7 GHz (Core i7)
MacBook Pro, 13", Retina, Late 2013:
At the Apple Special Event on October 22, 2013, Apple announced that it had updated the 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display. Both versions feature the new Intel Haswell chipset.
    2.4 or 2.6 GHz (Core i5) or 2.8 GHz (Core i7)
MacBook Pro, 13", Retina, Mid 2014:
On July 29, 2014 Apple announced updated prices and processors for their Haswell Macbook Pro with Retina Display.
    2.6 or 2.8 GHz (Core i5) or 3.0 GHz (Core i7)
I would go for the Pro Retina since the display is much better.

  • Considering an Apple TV

I'm really considering an Apple TV, but I have a lot of questions. Can I stream these movies to my Apple TV as long as I use a supported encoding format? How does Apple TV handle streaming from my computer? Does it have to load the entire movie, or will it start playing as soon as it has enough of a buffer? Will it pass all new forms of digital audio including the stuff from Dolby and DTS through the Optical or HDMI ports?
I like the price and I really like the design, I just need to make sure this thing will do everything I need.

The tv will not play DVD's or other disks from your mac/pc optical drive. Video/audio needs to be part of your itunes library in one of the supported formats.

The tv handles streaming very well generally, all of my tv's are set up to stream 99% of my content. Video/Audio commences to play within a few seconds of selecting it.

Stereo, mixdown or dolby digital only. DTS is not supported.

  • Macbook bought in Asia, can i buy apple care on Amazon?

    hello mac lovers!
i just got my new macbook. love it! i want to buy apple care and have found it online (amazon) for about 30% less the MRP. is its safe to do this and will it work? my computer is registered to me at my local address in thailand. i will get it shipped to my stateside address so the shipping is not an issue. Any thoughts please? thanks in advance. h20gurl

Hi h20gurl and welcome to Apple Discussions!
An AppleCare agreement purchased from Amazon (or any reliable reseller) should be valid in Thailand, since the agreement is international for portables such as your MacBook. It would also, of course, be valid in the USA. There is no need to have it shipped stateside if you don't want to.
Once you get the AppleCare plan box, you will want to register it to your MacBook. You can do this by going to https://selfsolve.apple.com/Agreements.do and entering the required information. Remember that you must register the agreement with Apple before the MacBook is a year old.
    Best of luck.

Try a hard reset.  To do this, toggle the hold switch on and then off, then press and hold both the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.  This may or may not work the first time around, so don't be afraid to try it more than once.
