Considering dumping cable and switching to a FIOS bundle - I have several questions...
I'm fed up with my local (Huntington Beach, CA) cable provider "improving my experience" by moving channels to their "digital lineup". As retribution, I'm seriously considering switching to a Verizon FIOS bundle (phone, internet, TV). I've some questions (and will probably think of more) and am hoping some super-knowledgable guy or gal can answer them. Yes, I've searched the forum and found some guidance - but I want to be 100% sure before I part with my hard-earned/heavily-taxed money.
1. Currently have coax (unknown type) feeding through the house to various locations. I've read conflicting statements on this: If the coax can handle it, can the FIOS be connected to this existing cabling? How does one determine this?
2. TV 1 is a six-year old Sony (analog) WEGA - works great, not going to replace it - that has Twin View (essentially PnP) capability. The unit has many connection points, including DVI-HDTV IN port (looks like an HDMI). I assume that an STB will be required for this TV. Does the Verizon STB make use of this port?
3. I undertsand that digital STB's decode one channel at a time, so my TV 1 PnP function goes away unless I connect another input to the AUX (an HDTV antenna and converter, a VCR to watch tapes, etc.) but, can I connect a second STB to that input and get my PnP back?
4. TV 2 is a one-year old Vizio LCD with an HD tuner. I assume it does NOT need an STB?
5. TV 2 also has PnP - useless unless I connect another input source (another STB?) to the unit, yes?
6. Can I use my existing telephones and answering machine with the FIOS bundle?
7. Can I use my existing switch/WAP/router(s) with the FIOS router? It isn't one of those modem/router combos, is it?
8. Can a technician visit my home for a preliminary inspection so that I can address any routing/installation/technical issues beforehand?
Thanks for being patient - I hesitate to call these questions in since I'm never sure if I'm getting the right answers. Forums are great; the community generally flags incorrect information and provides some sense of validation.

Picture in picture does not work with the FIOS STBS, as there is only one "stream" out from the box... I am not aware of any verizon STBs that have a DVI port... you would need to use HDMI or COMPONENT for HD, and COAX or COMPOSITE for SD

The router provided is strictly a router, though it is special, and needed for the FIOS TV, as far as the guide/VOD/widgets

Regarding the tutorial part, there are api in the "Dynamic Help" box,
What i did was extracting the java doc into my desktop for easy reference. JSC's screen is too small.
U can find these references under "C:\Sun\Creator2\rave2.0\docs". Just unzip them -
Updated to IOS6 and now my apps will not update on the Ipad2. I have to delete them and then re-install. But I have several hundred apps and this is cumbersome. Seems the new software is too buggy. I am telling people not to update software yet.
Basic troubleshooting from the Users Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new). Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.

I have just got my iPad2 and am very pleased with it. I have a question regarding the monthly (recommended) battery full charge. Should I let the battery completely die down to nothing at all before I plug in to recharge or would this complete drain be bad for my iPad?

2.2.1 and lost applications... I have a question...
I have the EXACT same problem as many people posting here. Updated to 2.2.1, sync'd and mysteriously lost at least 2/3 of my applications. Totally unforgivable problem on Apples part.
In addition, iTunes now crashes during the sync.
My question is this... when we do a sync, we often wait quite a while during the "Backing up the iPhone" phase... is there a way to actually USE that backup to get my applications and settings?

As for the crashing of itunes: Start iTunes, don't connect your iphone. Go to the Store menue in iTunes and click on "Deauthorize" and then "Authorize" your computer again. Connect your iphone again. Try to sync. -
I went to Starbucks this morning and my Wi-Fi on my Verizon Iphone connected, what does this allow me to do? My Wi-Fi does not recognize my home network from which I connect wirelessly to my MacBookPro and to my Apple TV using Airport Extreme router, why? Lastly, what do about the app NIke + Ipod not working. The sensor does not activate even after walking a half mile.

Try restarting your router (remove power for 30 seconds and restart). It may not be properly assigning an IP address to your iPhone. -
Among my new problems.
1. The alphabet is now missing from the opening page of my Address Book.

Just opened iTunes, and my library is gone! I have some questions..
I just got home and opened iTunes, and my library was empty. I had alot of music and playlists and stuff, everythings gone.
I connected my iPod to the computer and erased everything off my iPod, then added all the music back to my library from various folders on my computer (what a headache).. It was really annoying and took alot of time.
Why did this happen? I've never had any problems before. How can I prevent it from happening again? And if it does happen again, is there anyway I can get my playlists and ratings back? I know I can copy my entire library from my iPods hard drive, but I don't want to do that because I already have the music on my computer and it would just waste space.

The Time Capsule can wirelessly extend a wireless signal....but only if it is being provided by another Apple AirPort wireless router.
If the "main" rotuer there is not an Apple AirPort router, you will need to connect to the network using a wired Ethernet connection. -

This means your iPod is in recovery mode, try restarting the device agian (Hold the home + Power button for 10secounds), if the device goes back to this screen you will need to plugg it into your computer and most likely have to put all your content back on the device and restore from a backup

Big installation and switching IP problems with FIOS
Okay, here's my problems. A little background first. We ordered the FIOS bundle for our computer and also for our son's computer. He will use the router and go wireless. We had Verizon DSL with AOL, he had MSN dial-up. The tech installer arrives yesterday. Does everything he's supposed to--I guess. But, when he's almost finished, he mentions we need an ethernet adapter for my computer and my son needs a wireless adapter to pick up the signal. My son runs to Best Buy and purchases both. It cost $97 for both. First, I THOUGHT this was all supposed to be included! Why did I have to spend an additional $97 on these items? Shouldn't they have been included? As my son arrived back from Best Buy, the tech guy was in the process of leaving. He told us WE were supposed to install the ethernet adapter and the wireless adapter ourselves--AND HE LEFT!!! Luckily my son is somewhat computer savvy and did it. We now have FIOS internet thanks to our son! However, the tech guy did absolutely nothing with my son's computer.
Second, we sit down to check out our new FIOS cable. One problem, the channels weren't even comparable to our old Comcast cable HD channels. Not even close. The HD channels had a line running through them and weren't even in HD! We called tech services. The same tech guy comes back, hands us 4 bundles of cables, tells us to take out the coax cable and instead use the new A/V--Red, Blue and Green cables, AND LEAVES.....AGAIN!. WE, more precisely, our son, had to install them on both T.V.'s because tech guy had another home to do and didn't have the time. My son did it.....we now have FIOS cable--in HD, thanks to our son!
Third, I would like to drop my AOL and my son would like to drop his MSN and we would both like to use Verizon for our homepage and receive email through them now. We've read the FIOS internet and TV user guide and WE STILL cannot figure out how to switch over. I did manage to get my Verizon.net email and have used TrueSwitch, But we're afraid of cancelling our AOL and our son is afraid of cancelling his MSN for fear we won't be able to log on to a homepage. There's no icon on our desktops for Verizon's homepage. Tech service has been no help. My son has no clue how he can change from his MSN homepage from to Verizon Central because there is no mention on how to do that in the book or on any of the help pages. He has no clue how to change his account (email, homepage etc), from MSN to Verizon. The book is unclear and hard to follow. The help sites are the same. Links don't work, downloads won't download. I have a college degree and can't even follow these directions! It makes me want to cancel the whole thing and go back to regular cable. There's not even a button to log off the FIOS internet on my computer or on my son's computer. I think FIOS has been running for 2 days--even when the computers are shut off. Verizon has no way of knowing what your PC has prior to showing up... It is assumed that your PC's are already up to snuff as probably 99% of PC's now-a-days have a Ethernet card built in... Since your Pc's did not have the hardware neccesary to use the sevice, you are responsible for your PC's... The field tech is not responsible for installing third party equipment of any kind

That was wrong, the Field tech shoudl have setup your HD box with your HDTV witht he proper HD cords, the first time... and certainly should have done so the second time

Feel free to cnacel the other guys... Verizon is your Internet Service Provider.... The Internet is already being provided.... AOL and MSN are mearly Content providers... To set you home page inside internet explorer, click on Tool and then itnernet options... you will see the section for homepage... type in www.verizon.net or whatever you want it to be

I have a Samsung HD TV and I purchased a Mini Display port to HDMI Adapter today. For some strange reason I get no display on my HD tv. I even tried switching a few HDMI cables and nothing popped up. I made sure my computer performed all software updates, and I even tried calling Apple Support. They just told me to keep trying different hdmi cables and see if anything pops up. Does anybody know what the problem is? My HDMI cable is from "rocketfish" also my display port is too.
You may have the screen refresh rate set higher than the TV is generally able to track reliably. It may be able to get there most times, but occasionally loses sync because it is out of its nominal range.
I suggest you sit down with the manual for the TV and find out what resolutions at what refresh rates it intends to support through VGA, and make sure your screen settings are near (or below) those limits.
