Considering replacing my iPod

So currently, I have a 30 GB 5th generation iPod video. I got it from my parents for christmas in 2006 and I still use it to this day. Everything works fine except the battery. It doesn't really last past 5 hours, and that is only with just audio. And now I am considering replacing it. I have narrowed it down between the iPod classic or the iPod touch. I really like the 160 GB the classic has, but having wifi available on the touch is also pretty cool. I don't know which one I should buy. I don't really watch videos on my ipod. Anyone have any suggestions. Or, I can buy a bigger hard drive and a new battery and replace it myself on the ipod I have. Should I do that? I would appreciate any feedback.

Wrong forum, you're asking about a 4th generation iPod nano (this is the 3rd gen forum).
Probable answer: yes iTunes 8 required, that's what is says on the specs, my guess is that the new "genius" functionality makes it mandatory.
And about your library, no, iTunes will not loose anything.

i just replaced my ipod touch 2nd gen with the same model and cant seem to get my iyunes back

Don't understand question, Changing iPod shouldn't affect iTunes on the computer you sync with.  Plug in new iPod, it should take you through some screens of options asking how you want to setup the new iPod.
Just did this when going from 7+ year old iPod video to iPod Touch 5th gen.

  • I need some advice on replacing my ipod touch 4th generation screen. The silver plate won't go back into it's original place and i can't put the screws back in. I really need help i don't want my ipod to be broken!!!

I started to replace my ipod 4g screen but the silver plate that goes on top of the battery won't go back into place. It's not lining up with the screw holes so i can't finish the repair. Please I'm begging you all to help me with some advice and tips!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It will be greatly appreeciated. ASAP

Your best bet is to email the company that sold you the screen for advice.  Or you could search on YouTube for repair instructions.  Hopefully, you will see where you went wrong.  Apple will not do an out-of-warranty replacement on an iPod that has been opened.

  • Lost music..... replaced my ipod touch 2g for itouch 3g running iOS 5.1.1

I replaced my ipod touch 2g for a 3g and update it to iOS 5.1.1. I had no problem updating but I also discovered I lost some of my music from reseting my computer. Is there a way I can get my music back? also is there a way I can get my third-party music back?

You can redownload iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
If the non-iTunes purchases are on the old iPod you can copy them to your computer by:
Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device: Apple Support Communities
and then sync them to your new iPod.

  • I have already had to replace my ipod clickwheel

I have already had to replace my ipod clickwheel (less than a year old) once because it froze when I removed the headphone jack from the ipod. It would function even after using the 5 "Rs." My powerbook G4 would not recognize it and when I took it the the genius bar at apple, the rep. told me it had to be replaced because it was a defective iPod. He gave me a brand new one (this was in November 2005).
My new iPod clikwheel (the replacement) has frozen, just like the first one, but this it happened after I selected the "eject" function on iTunes. I waited for it to disconnect and then I removed it from the firewire cable (it was fully charged at this point and properly ejected). As soon as I removed it from the firewire cable the iPod froze (I have never had this specific problem until now).
I went through the 5"Rs" and nothing helped. Now I have the same exact problem as I did with the first one and this new iPod is only 4 months old! I now have to go back to the genius bar and ask for another iPod. I paid $300 for this machine and it is unreliable. I am going to ask for my money back unless Apple can gauarantee either that this will not happen again or that they will repapi the iPod for as long as I have it if this problem occurs again. I am tempted to use a different brand of mp3 player.
Why is this happening? The discussion boards don't help. I've read so many complaints of the same problem but no one seems to have had the problem occur twice! - and now one has stated the events prior to the problems. Is this a permanent problem with the clickwheel? Did Apple know about this when they released it to the public? Is Apple doing anything to fix the problem? Will there be a recall? WIll Apple refund or replace every single iPod clickwheel with new reliable ones? I believe this is a serious problem that needs immediate attention. I will go to the apple store...again.. but have asked Apple to file my complaint. I have sent this complaint to Apple online and will be sending a copy to Apple's corporate offices as well.
I would love to ask everyone and anyone to reply to this message if you have had the same permanent problem with your iPod Clickwheel - it freezes, is not recognized by the computer, does not appear in iTunes, the desktop, or the disk utility, when connecting via Firewire or USB the iPod screen displays "Do Not Diconnect" but never changes, 5 R's do not work, and after speaking to a genius bar Apple representative or apple care technician you are told that the only solution is to have the iPod replaced. Pleas state if the amount of times this problem has occured and if it has occured with multiple iPod Clickwheels.
    Thank you.

  • I just replaced my iPod a week ago, and it was working fine, but when I went to go turn the screen on, it wouldn't turn on. Ive tried to put it on the charger and it wouldn't charge and it wont connect to my computer, how do i fix this?

I just replaced my iPod 5th gen. a week ago, and it was working fine, but when I went to go turn the screen on, it wouldn't turn on. I've tried to put it on the charger and it wouldn't charge and it wont connect to my computer, how do i fix this? I tried to reset the iPod, by pressing the home and power button but nothing works. It's literally a brand new iPod, I dont know what to do now. Help?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

    - See:
    iPod touch: Hardware troubleshooting
    - Try another cable
    - Try another charging source
    - Look at the dock connector on the iPod. Look for abnormalities like bent or corroded contacts, cracked or broken plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genus Bar of an Apple store.

  • Considering Buying an ipod

I am considering buying an ipod and have a few questions.
I have a PC with Windows XP Home Edition (SP2).
    First:
The laptop I am using is just too old to come with USB 2.0. Is it possible to use and ipod (all functions) when connected to USB 1.0? I own a PC card the gives me two USB 2.0 ports, but it is not available to me at the time but will be in a few months. I don't mind starting transfers and letting them run over night. All my music is on an external hard drive (USB 2.0) and I have access to a computer with USB 2.0 but the computer stinks and is very slow (kind of ironic). Worst case I buy a new PC card for my laptop and in a few months will have 2 (sell one on E-bay).
    Second:
Should I buy the Apple Care? Personally if I was running a business I would stand behind my product for at least 2 years without charging extra, but that is me and that philosophy makes me not want to buy it. Statistically speaking, should I. (I know there is no definite answer for this, personal stories would be ok)
    Third:
I have been debating on whether to get an ipod (20GB) or a Creative Zen Micro (5GB). $/GB is better for the ipod but the Zen micro has an FM tuner and voice recorder and is cheaper. Is there anything that could seal the deal, really make me want an ipod?
    Thanks for any help.

I was about to suggest you dump USB2 altogether and use Firewire instead, but the fact that you have an USB2 external hard drive may cause a problem. It is possible to use an iPod with USB 1.1, but it will be quite slow even when it works.
As for the choice between an iPod and a Zen, I would say an iPod is the obvious choice as it is much easier to use and iTunes is way better than other music management programs in my opinion. Also, do you really need a FM tuner and voice recording functions? Consider carefully as only you can answer this yourself. I know I don't need them.

Apple will replace an iPod that is still under warranty if it has a manufacturing defect. That's not the same thing.

  • Re: Satellite A300-1EI: Windows 7 "consider replacing your battery

I have my Toshiba two years.
I bought it witch Vista, but I install to Windows XP.
Laptop worked very good. In December 2009, I decided to install Windows 7.
All drivers were available so I done it. Windows 7 worked perfect to yesterday.
I have a communique from Windows 7 "consider replacing your battery" and laptop works on battery too short.
Before this problem I could works 1 hour and 45 min. Now it is 15-30 min.
I read in some forums in Internet that Windows 7 damage laptop's battery. Is it true?
Is there any idea to repair it?
I afraid to buy new battery if windows 7 damage it too. Thanks for your help.
    P.S.
    Sorry for my low English.

    Hi
The Windows 7 has recognized that your battery performance it too low and that battery needs to be replaced.
    Please take a look here:
+Notfication in the battery meter of Windows 7 "Consider replacing your battery".+
    http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB0302U30000R01.htm
As mentioned in this Toshiba document, this Microsoft this message is correct and the battery is really end of life (<40%).
Seems its time for a new battery
