Considering updating to 1.4.2

Just wanted to get everyones impression and input before I update from MDC OS 10.4.7 and XSAN 1.4 to MDC OS 10.4.11 and XSAN 1.4.2
I have read, and hopefully understand, all the apple README's, How-To's, specs, etc., regarding the xsan update.
I am not ready to go to Leopard yet for a couple of internal company reasons and based on one thread here about random restarts, I am concerned about using 10.4.11 and 1.4.2
Considering I am not going to OS 10.5 yet, should I stop my OS update at 10.4.10 or go to 10.4.11 and if I do go to 10.4.11 has there been a patch that fixes the random restart problem.
Just trying to get some general input on this.
Thank you

We work with 10.4.11 and 1.4.2 for a couple of months now. Once I had the
OpHangLimitSecs error. For the rest it works like a charm.

    BUT.........Here are a few questions:
    1. Will I be able to edit forms? such as a contact form? with a submit button....say change the email it goes too?
    2. Will it MESS with existing forms and make them unusable?
    3. Does is have any text formatting options such as setting the indent/outdent size?
    4. Does it allow for a table border to be collapsed, therefore very small and barely visible?
    5. Any idea if Adobe will ever make it so that we can edit the code with it too?
    Thank you,

The info you posted from About this Mac is helpful but lacking two major pieces! the OS X version you're running now and the total and free hard disk space you have. If you're running 10.6.8 the OS upgrade will be a one step $20 process, if you're running less than 10.6 you're first going to have to upgrade to that for $20 and then to Lion for another $20. Both of those are paid upgrades but at $20 each they're worth the investment.
You WILL need more ram. I'd recommend purchasing online from OWC. Your macbook can use up to 6gb of ram and I'd recommend you upgrade to that, you can get by with 4gb but that is the bare minimum. This is the ram you need http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/MacBook/DDR2/
IF you need more hard drive space you might want to look at an SSD instead of a mechanical hard drive, they're so fast you'll think you have a new macbook. Again OWC would be the place to look as they are Mac experts offering customer service that is second to none.
If you can operate a screwdriver you can do both upgrades yourself in about a half hour, both are very easy and step by step illustrated guides can be found here https://www.ifixit.com/Device/MacBook_Core_2_Duo
Upgrades can add up fast and when you're working on a 6 or 7 year old macbook you have to consider if it's going to last long enough to justify the cost. An entry level MacBook Air will blow your old machine out of the water performance wise and can be had for around $700......so you have to answer....is it worth it?

However if you need BIOS update prior to have some RAM or GPU working fine (or other stuff), then maybe consider updating to 1.6 and then to 1.9 and finally to 1.B (1.11). I suggest using MFlash (files can be downloaded on MSI's product site, instructions should be included). For Forum Flash tool you need proper files provided (usually) by Svet or Flobelix.
Before attempting to flash, make sure your system is stable!
I downloaded BIOS 1,5 and 1,6 and in both cases i have same issue it stucks on 100% on M-Flash, after this I can normaly shut down pc and it work but witch 1.4 BIOS. I just want know whyi can;t
    updtate.

  • Cannot update to 3.5 on older MacPro and 3.5 not compatible with 3.4.5

It appears that you cannot update Aperture to 3.5 on older Macs. Worse yet the new update is not compatible with the previous version.
    The questions are  ---
Is this a temproary issue or a permanent issue?
Can I regress back to version 3.4.5 to get my compatibility back ?
I have multiple computers I use to work on my photography.
I use a older Mac Pro Vintage late 2007 that cannot be updated beyond OS 10.7.5. This is currently my primary photo computer.
With 3ghz Quad cores and over a terabyte of drive space no need to update yet except for not being able to load the latest OS.
I also use a MacBookPro Vintage Late 2011 and it was just updated to Mavericks. I use this to edit my photos on the go.
I will consider updating to the latest Mac Pro when it becomes available but what to do until then and a warning to others.

Actually, I had this same problem - accidentally upgraded my library on my Mac Air to 3.5, but am not running Aperture 3.5 on any of my other, older Macs.  I *was* able to downgrade the library back to 3.4.5.  BAsically, I had to open the library on a computer running Aperture 3.4.5 in library repair mode (holding down command and option when opening).  In the ensuing dialog I had to choose to rebuild the library.  I first tried just repairing, and it seemed to work, but next time I opened Aperture I got the "library can't be opened iwth an older version of Aperture" message.  Rebuilding it seems to have done the trick.
A more detailed explanation (though not written for this particular scenario) is here:
         http://www.apertureexpert.com/faq/common-aperture-questions-issues-and-rep/how-d o-i-repair-or-rebuild-my-aperture-library-or-permission.html
Having restored the library to 3.4.5 format, I downgraded Aperture on my Air to 3.4.5 as well and it's been smooth sailing.  Just make sure you have Mavericks set up to *NOT* automatically update your apps, or you'll end up in the same situtation all over again when it silently upgrades Aperture to 3.5 again.
    Good luck!

  • Airprint not working with HP printer after updating to IOS5

    Hi,
I have an HP airprint printer (photosmart B210) that worked fine with my ipad2 and iphone 4 all running ios 4.
Now I have a iphone 4s as well as the iphone 4 and ipad. After upgrading to ios 5, I can no longer airprint from any of my ios devices.
I have tried turing everything off anf back on (including time capsule router, printer, ios devices).
I can see the printer from ios but the job just sits waiting to print. I have managed to print one document after trying multiple times.
    Anyone having this issue?
    Thanks

    BattleAngelita,
    Welcome to the HP Forum.
The fact that the SimplePass program is asking your for your Master Windows Password means the program survived the upgrade process to Windows 8.1 -- sort of.
You may want to start with the following:
    Create a Restore Point >>  Create a Restore Point – Win7  OR  Create a restore point Win8
Close all your programs and Shut down the computer
Disconnect everything (little Unifier for the keyboard / external mouse can stay)
Perform the Hard Reset for your notebook
Boot the computer and log in
Check to see is SimplePass has sorted itself.
    ==========================================================================
You may want to try to Update your SimplePass program to the latest version in the version 6.x series.
Before you do that, read and follow the instructions to Export your Webcards to your .tsd file.  Regardless of whether the website logins are working right now; you do need this backup in case you lose your HP SimplePass program (through complete removal / reinstallation or though corruption).
Next, consider updating the HP SimplePass program to the latest of the version 6 series.  If you are already running the latest version, consider the other options in the guide, including the "Repair SimplePass" procedure.
Open the file > Click on Download > Click “Open in Adobe Reader”
Simple Instructions to Upgrade HP SimplePass
    Click the Kudos Thumbs-Up!
It is a nice way to say “Thank You" for the help.
Although I strive to reflect HP's best practices, I do not work for HP.

  • IF Auto Update Statistics ENABLED in Database Design, Why we need to Update Statistics as a maintenance plan

    Hi Experts,
IF Auto Update Statistics ENABLED in Database Design, Why we need to Update Statistics as a maintenance plan for Daily/weekly??
    Vinai Kumar Gandla

    Hi Vikki,
Many systems rely solely on SQL Server to update statistics automatically(AUTO UPDATE STATISTICS enabled), however, based on my research, large tables, tables with uneven data distributions, tables with ever-increasing keys and tables that have significant
changes in distribution often require manual statistics updates as the following explanation.
1.If a table is very big, then waiting for 20% of rows to change before SQL Server automatically updates the statistics could mean that millions of rows are modified, added or removed before it happens. Depending on the workload patterns and the data,
this could mean the optimizer is choosing a substandard execution plans long before SQL Server reaches the threshold where it invalidates statistics for a table and starts to update them automatically. In such cases, you might consider updating statistics
manually for those tables on a defined schedule (while leaving AUTO UPDATE STATISTICS enabled so that SQL Server continues to maintain statistics for other tables).
2.In cases where you know data distribution in a column is "skewed", it may be necessary to update statistics manually with a full sample, or create a set of filtered statistics in order to generate query plans of good quality. Remember,
however, that sampling with FULLSCAN can be costly for larger tables, and must be done so as not to affect production performance.
3.It is quite common to see an ascending key, such as an IDENTITY or date/time data types, used as the leading column in an index. In such cases, the statistic for the key rarely matches the actual data, unless we update the Statistic manually after
    every insert.
So in the case above, we could perform manual statistics updates by
creating a maintenance plan that will run the UPDATE STATISTICS command, and update statistics on a regular schedule. For more information about the process, please refer to the article:

  • MSI-6712 BIOS update issues

I have a PC, running XP Pro SP3, which was built for me nigh on 9 years ago.
    Motherboard: MSI-6712 (KT4V-L) Version 1.0 (North Bridge KT400A Rev 80, South Bridge VT8235 Rev 00)
    CPU: AMD XP2800+ CPU (Socket A 462, 3000 MHz)
    Memory: 1.0GB DDR
GPU: nVidia GeForce FX-5200 (128 MB)
About 4 years back I considered updating the BIOS, but the MS LiveUpdate utility (v 3.5 I think it was) no longer worked (wrong URL). Tried updating it, but the update (can’t remember the version) shut down my system whenever I tried to use it. So I rolled back and left it.
Recently, a program I was evaluating (running on .Net 4 Client Profile) caused my PC to freeze up and after uninstalling I discovered all manner of problems with USB peripherals (recognition and auto-play issues).
Tried to restore a backup (Retrospect Express HD) from a Maxtor One Touch III external drive but it wasn’t having it, presumably because of the drive recognition issues, and a straight System Restore wouldn’t complete (because XP would freeze at log off).
I feared there had been hardware damage, but decided to try a clean re-install of XP Pro. The person who built the PC had left a folder of system set up files (VIA chipset 4in1, LAN, RealTek AC97, nVidia drivers, utilities etc) on the hard drive (which I backed up) but when it came to installing XP, I couldn’t figure out which chipset drivers to install, as there were multiple versions (presumably for his purposes). So I let XP install the default windows drivers and then replaced them with the latest VIA 4in1 set for the KT4V-L from the MSI download page (can’t post link) – driver version 5.11a, release 20.4.2007
Seemed to go well, but it was suggested to me that it might be a good time to update the BIOS. So I installed MSI Live Update 5 and ran a scan. Strange thing is that an automatic scan (which pulls up just the nVidia driver and utilities) reports that none are installed and a manual scan reports that the BIOS, Drivers and Utilities are the latest version and no there is need to update. How can that be? I’ve never updated the BIOS and the only other utility I re-installed is PC Alert 5.
Yet when I run a SIW (System Information for Windows) scan and it reports the following:

How is it that Live Update 5 doesn’t pick this up?
So, apologies for the convoluted post (thought it best to explain the events leading to this), but what to do?
    1.   Do I need to update the BIOS, given that it has never been done and I now have the latest VIA 4in1 drivers installed?
    2.   Why is Live Update 5 not reporting the status correctly and is there anything I can do to correct this.
    3.   Otherwise, if a BIOS update, is warranted, should I go ahead and download directly from the Global MSI webpage and then which version? (can’t post link). I note from the version descriptions that it was v1.7 (26/12/2002) that added support for AMD XP 2800. Strange then that the guy who put together my PC, would not have updated the BIOS from v1.0 to 1.7 at that time!!
    4.   Should I also update the nVidia driver, and if so, when? Before or after a BIOS update or is that irrelevant?

Edit: Actually, looking at the original SIW scan report I see that there are some errors relating to DirectX. Not sure if I need to update DirectX (surely MS Update does that automatically) and/or the nVidia driver.
    5.   One other thing that concerns me is that the SIW scan reports that the BIOS is reporting wrong values for the DDR memory. What’s that about?

Sorry for cross-posting to another forum, but this has got me in a twizzle
    http://www.windowsbbs.com/pc-hardware/89688-need-ram-recommendations-msi-kt4v-l-2.html#post493343
According to the poster (Post #30), the KT4V-L can support 3gB DDR400.
I looked at the MB in my PC and it is in fact stamped MS-6712 KT4AV v10A (assumed 1.0A ). Both CPU-Z and SIW report it as a MS-6712 v1.0 (BIOS 07.00T  04/02/01, Firmware 101.114)
According to the MSI product webpage, the only difference between the KT4AV and KT4AV_L is that the latter includes an (optional) on-board 10/100 LAN.
    http://www.msi.com/product/mb/KT4AV.html#/?div=Detail
The ethernet port on my PC is (as described in Device Manager) is a Via Rhine II Fast Ethernet Adapter, whereas in the listed MSI specifications, the optional 10/100 LAN is stated to be a VIA VT6103 LAN controller. So possibly then I was mistaken in assuming that my MB is a KT4AV-L.
Even so, if the statement about the KT4AV-L supporting 3gB DDR400 is true, surely this also applies to the KT4AV ?
Looking at the available BIOS updates on the MSI page, I can see no mention of an upgrade in DDR400 capacity:
    http://www.msi.com/product/mb/KT4AV.html#/?div=BIOS
Edit: Ah, the guy in the post specifically refers to a KT4V-L v1.1 not KT4AV-L and I see that it is different product:
    http://www.msi.com/product/mb/KT4V---KT4V-L--v1-0-.html#/?div=Detail
What's confusing is that they all designated as MS-6712. So if anyone, like me, does a look up under MS-6712 they could pull up either version, and since the KT4AV/L and KT4V/L have different BIOS update series, I can see how someone could easily flash the wrong BIOS.
That aside, the memory specifications for the KT4V/L are essentially the same as those in the User Guide that came with my KT4AV:
Supports up to 3GB PC1600/2100/2700/3200* DDR SDRAMs
*See Glossary for recommended DDR400 modules - with the largest listed module capacity being 2 x 512MB
So where does this "up to 3GB DDR400 capacity" notion come from. I'd really want to believe it. And if the guy in the PC shop is to be believed, I'd settle for just 2GB.
Edit 2: Oh, boy, so there is a separate product listing for the KT4V-L v1.1:
    http://us.msi.com/product/mb/KT4V-L--v1-1-.html#/?div=Detail
Yet, the memory specifications appear to be the same as those for the other MS-6712 versions and BIOS updates are the same as those for the KT4AV-L (very confusing). In fact the downloadable User Guide is the same  - 'KT4AV MS-6712 (v1.X) ATX Motherboard'.
    Am I missing something here?

  • How To update  Mac OSX 10.3.9 (Dual 1.8ghz)

I recently purchased an iPod Classic but it won't operate from my system (Which is lame!) ... I was considering updating from Panther to Tiger or Leopard (they seem to be the same price) ... I've read many posts about the new Leopard's bugs etc., also I'm about to start doing some pre production (music) from home using Pro-Tools --- And I read on the digi design site that Leopard is not compatible with their system as of yet ...After reading the post I'm leaning towards not getting Leopard until Apple works out the kinks - Now Tiger ... on the iPod Classic box it requires Mac OSX 10.4.8 (which I didn't see until I got home) --- It looks like on the apple site that Tiger runs 10.4.6 -- (***??) If I purchase this can I download a Tiger update 10 10.4.8 or higher ? I'm confused and frustrated ---
If I knew this I would have purchased an iPod Video 5th generation from one of the commercial stores (same size) and it runs on Panther... and it cheaper ...
PLEASE someone let me know what my best option would be ... beside returning the iPOD CLASSIC ...
I appreciate any help...and please excuse my frustration...

    Hi Jcverses!
    Here is some additional info.
Exactly which model Mac is it?
    What is the Processor speed?
What size is the Hard Drive, and how much space is available?
How much RAM is installed, and is it original or added?
Note that the stated System Requirements for any version of OS X, are the bare Minimum.
As roam posted, once an OS has been installed, the point upgrades, such as 10.1.x to 10.1.5 (Final) 10.2.x to 10.2.8 (Final), 10.3.x to 10.3.9 (Final), 10.4.x to 10.4.11 (Pending), and 10.5.x to 10.5.1 (Pending), can be downloaded for free.
Tiger is available for purchase at The Apple Store (U.S.).
If your Mac meets the Leopard System Requirements. Leopard 10.5.x, can be purchased at The Apple Store (U.S.).
If you know what to look for, a Full Retail Version, of the Tiger Install DVD, can also be purchased, sometimes less expensively, at some online Apple retailers, Amazon, eBay, FastMac, HardCore Mac, AllMac, etc.
Be sure not to purchase grey, upgrade or machine specific CDs or DVDs.
The discs should look exactly like the images in the above links, and not say Upgrade, CPU Drop-in DVD, or "This software is part of a hardware bundle purchase - not to be sold seperately." on them.

If your Mac meets the Tiger System Requirements, once Tiger 10.4.x is installed, you can use the PPC 10.4.11 Combo Update, to upgrade to the current version.
If Leopard 10.5.x is installed, you would use the Mac OS X 10.5.1 Update.
Additionally, Tiger 10.4.x and Leopard 10.5.x, ship on a DVD, so if your Mac doesn’t have a built-in DVD-ROM player, you will have to use an alternative method of installation.

  • IOS update, storage, and icloud

I have an iPad and I am not able to update to the iOS 8.0.2 due to insufficient storage. I was hoping to free up my storage by moving all my photos and videos to the icloud. I believe I have transferred a few, but before deleting them off my iPad camera roll I wanted to make sure they were being properly stored. How do I access the cloud? It said i wasn't able to set it up unless I had the most current iOS. I am in a catch 22 here. Help!

You won't be able to use iCloud to do this.  If you put them in iCloud and delete them from your iPad, they will be deleted from iCloud too and will be lost.  Import them to your computer using your usb cable instead, as explained here: iOS: Import personal photos and videos from iOS devices to your computer.
Also, if you are trying to update over the air, consider updating using iTunes instead.  That will require much less space on your iPad to update as it uses your computer's hard drive instead.  To do this, see "Update your device using iTunes" in this article: Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch iOS software.
If you still don't have enough space, you might want to delete something that can easy by synced back to your iPad, such as your music.  You can delete all the music from your iPad by going to Settings>General>Usage...wait for the apps list to open then tap Music>Edit and tap next to All Music.  Then sync it back using iTunes after your update.

  • Firefox/Thunderbird Updates - Solaris 10 8/07 (update 4)

    Hello,
Firefox and TB are bundled in the latest Solaris 10 release (8/07). How does that release handle updates to these packages? Can one manually install Mozilla updates in Sun package format over the bundled software? Or will all FX/TB updates be handled by Solaris packages delivered via patches? Will one need a Sun Support Contract to obtain the update patches?
I am running Sol 10 11/07, and am considering updating to the 8/07 release.
    Thanks...

The "unofficial" Solaris builds from the SUN Beijing Team available from Mozilla are what I have been using for years now. These builds come out simultaneously with all official FX/TB releases (e.g. 2.0.0.8, 2.0.0.9, etc.) On Sol 10 11/06, to install these builds, I pkgrm my existing FX/TB package and then pkgadd the new one. The packages always work perfectly.
My question regarding Sol 10 8/07 with bundled FX/TB is related to these Solaris builds from Mozilla. With the software bundled into Solaris, I will not be able to pkgrm FX/TB and replace them with the new release myself, correct? Maybe I could, but then the patching of these packages will be messed up, right?
I am unsure of the advantage of bundling the software into Solaris if Sun will be significantly behind Mozilla in making updates available. The updates often address very important security vulnerabilities, and being slow in releasing patch updates for the packages means that the systems will be left vulnerable. However, I understand that even an older 2.x release of FX/TB is better and more secure than the Mozilla 1.7.x bundled with Solaris now.

Because your iPhone 3G is now more than four years old and cannot be updated any further.

  • Cc 2014 update results in no video anymore

Performed an update to CC 2014 suite and now Premiere outputs no video.  Not in the source monitor or the program/sequence monitor (as if playing audio only, but without a waveform).  Video output to a "playback" monitor is full white.  Importing new video, or "replacing video" has the same result - audio only on all video files.  How do I uninstall the update?  I have a critical project at work coming immediately and do not have time for this.

And there is no option to update display drivers on Mac - they include it with updates if they choose.  No option to download OS X drivers from AMD/ATI either.
OS X 10.7.x is no longer supported for Premiere Pro CC 2014.1. You must update OS X to OS X 10.8.x, or later.
    Please try this first.
Although it's possible to run the current version of Premiere Pro on OS X 10.7, you could experience various unexpected behaviors that might making working with the project difficult.
Do your AMD 5770 GPUs have 1 GB of VRAM or 512 MB? The 512 MB version of the card exhibits some pretty bad behavior for some projects, especially complicated ones. I would be wary of that card and would consider updating the card, or if you can't, look into getting a new computer.
Also, it is not good editing protocol to update project files to a major version like Premiere Pro 2014.1. Please consider reverting to the previous version of Premiere Pro to get your work done, then move to the new version when your project is complete. That is what most people would suggest, in general. However, 2014.1 seems to be particularly hard on project files that are updated from projects with complicated or multicamera sequences. I would not recommend it.
    Hope that helps,
    Kevin
