Considering upgrading iCloud storage, questions

Hi, I currently have an iPad 2 3G and an iPhone 4 32GB.  I've updated the firmware on the iPad 2 to 5.0 and therefore have iCloud.  It's setup and working fine, but due to the meager 5GB storage, not enough to backup the iPad.  I'm thinking of upgrading the storage to 15GB and paying the $20; I'm reluctant to pay any more than that until I see how it works.
Here's the thing: I'm considering updating the iPhone 4 to 5.0 as well and therefore would also have that device on iCloud.  So the combined backups from both devices is what's got me in a bit of a bind, because I don't know how much space the iPhone 4 would use for its backup.
So I wanted to get some feedback from people who already have iCloud in use for both devices so I can get an idea as to how I might proceed.
Any information or feedback is appreciated, thanks!

Hi,
I have had no issues re iCloud backups so far, but re buying more space I will do this if and when the necessity arises. More for data and document storage as the required fees are cheep.
At the end of the day it is your decision.

  • Can i upgrade icloud storage for secondary account?

My secondary account is used mostly for email.  I deleted a ton of them but somehow am still voer the 5GB limit.
I'm willing to pay the $100 upgrade to get rid of the hassle, but is theere a way to upgrade icloud storage for your secondary account?

You would probably have to temporarily make the secondary account the primary account to upgrade it.  To do this, go to System Preferences>Mail,Contacts,Calendars...delete the secondary account, then go to System Preferences>iCloud, sign out of your primary account and choose Delete at all of the prompts (your data will still be in iCloud), then sign back in with your secondary account ID and upgrade the storage.
After upgrading the secondary account storage, reverse the procedure to assign the primary and secondary accounts back the way they were.

  • Can I upgrade iCloud storage using iTunes cards for payment?

I have chosen not to use my credit card in conjunction with my AppleID, so I purchase all of my apps and media using iTunes cards.  Can I pay for upgraded iCloud storage using iTunes credits?  I would prefer to pay one year at a time using those credits, but if it needs to be monthly, that would be fine as well.  I just want to use the iTunes cards instead of a credit card for the payment.

Thank you.  So to clarify, if I put a credit card on file for this AppleID, but I have plenty of iTunes credit to cover the monthly cost, then the monthly fee will be pulled from iTunes credits instead of my credit card.  Is that correct?
It sounds like the credit card is required in order to provide a backup payment option if the iTunes credits are all used up.  Is that also correct?
You're awesome!! Thanks for the help.

  • Upgraded iCloud storage not showing the upgrade?

Using iPhone 5s & new iPad Air.... Upgraded iCloud storage & it hasn't updated on either devices! Is there Anyway to see if you received my request & payment so I don't duplicate it?

Contact the Apple online store for your country (1-800-MY-APPLE in the U.S. and Canada).  They should be able to verify that your upgrade purchase went through.

  • When I try to upgrade icloud storage I get an "unknown error" message. I can't install the software upgrade or back up my phone. HELP!

    Need help with icloud storage

Not sure if you are trying to upgrade iCloud storage to make more room for the upgrade, but that won't help you. If you do not have enough room on your device for the upgrade, then you have to delete some things off of your device. You can also try to do the upgrade via iTunes on the computer you sync with. A direct upgrade does not require as much memory as a Wifi upgrade.
Upgrading iCloud storage only provides more storage for your backups and for your iCloud sync'd items like messages, contacts, etc.
Until the iCloud Drive is fully functional, iCloud will not help you to increase the memory capacity of your device.
And, right now, the iCloud servers may just be overloaded with activity.

  • Upgraded iCloud Storage not showing up in iCloud Drive

Hi, I upgraded my iCloud storage to 500 GB a few weeks ago.  When I go into iCloud under system preferences I can see that 460GB of that is still available.  However, when I try to store things in iCloud Drive on my computer it tells me there is only 52gb available.  Why is this?  Please help, as it is very frustrating!  Many thanks.

How much storage do I have in iCloud Drive and how do I get more?
When you sign up for iCloud, you get 5 GB of free storage. Your iCloud storage is used for iCloud Backup, iCloud Drive, iCloud Photo Library, iCloud Mail (your @icloud.com email account), and data from apps that use iCloud. Your purchased music, apps, books, TV shows, and My Photo Stream don't count against your 5 GB of free storage.

  • Upgraded icloud storage and lost sent emails

I upgraded the storage on my iCloud account yesterday and now all of my sent messages from my main email account have vanished.  Does anyone have this problem.  I also have 3 other email accounts and all of the sent messages from those accounts are still present.  I have lost over 13k sent emails that are for my business.  HELP!!!!

Log into appleid.apple.com and verify that both the email addresses you use do not show up there in the same account. My worry is that you might be mistaking a login alias ([email protected]) as a separate account which it might be one in the same. Either way, if you are having issues downgrading your storage you will need to contact Apple for more assistance.

  • Upgraded iCloud storage already "full"?

    Hi,
I recently attempted to load all my old DVD-archived photos into my Mac Mini. This auto-populated my iPhoto library. I figured that this also would (and did) eatup my iCloud storage space - So I upgraded to the 50GB/year option. (and have gotten the email confirmation of the upgrade)
I've had trouble turning on the photo sync function on my mini since then, I figured due to the massive amount of image date that was being uploaded/downloaded to and from iCloud.
I followed online support instructions to reset photostream: turn off the photostream function in each of may OSX and iOS5 devices, and reset the Photo stream from the iCloud website.
I now have an empty photo stream and still an almost full iCloud (48GB/50GB)!
    1. Is this iCloud usage accurate (are the servers down? does it take a while to update?")
    2. Is there any way to refresh the actual usage?
I've already deleted practically everything on iCloud using the system prefrences on my OSX devices - but still no change in the space consumption; I would love to keep the 50GB, but if there is some error on the consumption status, I'm tempted to downgrade
would appreciate any input or suggestions!
    thanks
    Migs

Mine updates when I choose 'show all' and then choose iCloud again. Photo Stream doesn't count towards your storage used. Are you sure you aren't reading it as using 48 GB, when actually it's telling you you have 48 GB left.

  • Upgraded iCloud storage, yet can't take photos

I just upgraded my iCloud storage capacity.  My iPhone shows the correct new storage.  I am getting error messages in Camera, saying there's no storage available to take new photos or videos. I've synched, plus deleted/moved off as many photos as I could (I don't have many).  Still getting the error.  Anyone else getting this message, and what solved it?

    Hi kcvinweho,
The error you are getting is not realted to iCloud or iCloud storage - it is realted to your phone itself. Do you have a bunch of videos that you have not deleted? Videos take up a lot of room. If you do have a lot, then back them up to your computer, and delete all of them.
You can also try resetting your phone, although I don't think that is the issue. However, if you have deleted most of your photos and don't have a bunch of videos and you are still getting the error, then a reset won't hurt....
Hold down the Home and Power buttons and continue to hold them until the Silver Apple appears. When the Home screen redisplays, try taking a picture to see if you are able to.
    Cheers,
    GB

  • I didn't upgrade ICloud storage in time is my mail gone?

I upgraded my ICloud storage today at 230pmET. I was over the limit yesterday when the free trial expired. Is any mail I may have received in the past day gone?

It's possible that you are having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not caused by one (or more than one) of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode safe mode] (don't forget to select ''Disable all add-ons'' when you start safe mode). If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes this article] for information about troubleshooting extensions and themes and [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+plugins this one] for plugins.
If you need support for one of your add-ons, you'll have to contact its author.
If the problem does not disappear when all add-ons are disabled, please tell me, so we can work from there. Please have no fear of following my instructions to the line, as all can be easily undone.

  • Upgraded iCloud storage for second time to 1tb but photo library still saying not enough iCloud storage to upload photos, help?

1Tb iCloud storage, 128gb iPad air 2, still saying not enough iCloud storage to upload photos

    Hey EmilyEliza,
As you are clearly aware, it is important for you to have backups of your important data, including all of these photos you are currently keeping on your iPhone. While it is possible to use iTunes or iCloud to do backups of your iPhone, the problem becomes how to access those backups if you have deleted the photos from your iPhone. Once you have done the backup and then removed the photos from the iPhone, the only way to access the photos is by restoring the backups to the phone. See this article for information about backups made from the iPhone -
Back up and restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch using iCloud or iTunes - Apple Support
If you want to easily access the photos once they are off of the iPhone, another approach to this would be to import your photos from the iPhone into an application on your Mac, such as iPhoto. To learn how to do this, use the steps in this article -
Import photos and videos from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your Mac or Windows PC - Apple Support
Once those photos are on your computer, it is still important to back up those photos to somewhere else, so you can be sure of their safety before removing them from the iPhone. Your Mac’s Time Machine application is one method of doing this -
Mac Basics: Time Machine backs up your Mac - Apple Support
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

  • ICloud Storage question:  why do I have 25GB

Everything I read says you get 5GB of storage free and pay for extra
When I go to Settings/icloud/storage & backup, my total storage is shown as 25GB
Any idea why that would be?
A couple of possibilities I have thought of is that I had mobileme family pack and although I did not purchase extra space, maybe that's why they gave me more?
    or
I have now updated a total of 5 devices:  1 iphone; 1 ipad; 1 macbook air; 1 mac mini; and 1 mac mini server
Is it possible that we get a allocation of 5 GB per device??
Not a big deal, I guess but, I'd like to know if I have it permanently or might have some of it taken away down the road
    thanks

I think you'll find it a very sneaky marketing ploy. Everybody gets 5GB for free as advertised, but they've allocated you 25GB to start with. You then start using the facility. Then once you've got it firmly embedded in your work practices with all your documents uploaded they'll tell you that you need to pay for the extra storage you're using (at £28 per year) or lose it. Hope I'm wrong, but I think that's Apple's new way of screwing customers........

  • HT4847 How do I find my upgraded icloud storage?

I bought extra storage a month or so ago for the price of about $99, but I can not access it or link it to my iphone.

Are you saying that you are signed into your account but you don't see the extra storage reflected in Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup?  If so, try contacting the Apple online store at the number shown at the bottom of this page and have them confim that the purchase when through, and if so, ask them why you have received what you paid for.

  • ICloud storage question.

is there a way to know exactly what is being storaged on an icloud account? I have the free 5GB version, and i use it for all of my apple devices, am down to 4GB, and i want to keep the free account for aslong as  possible, so i would like to know how to delete stuff from icloud and to tell it just to store thinks that i really want to keep, like photos and music. Also correct me if am wrong, my undestanding is that whatever is on icloud stream, like photos, notes or reading list, do not use icloud storage, right? thanks.

    Go to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backups>Manage Storage
From there you can find how much and which files are in a backup, and how much different apps use to store data files.  At the bottom of the screen is the size of the mail storage.
BTW, icloud is not the thing to use to store photos, and it doesn't include music (you can get a subscription to itunes match for that).  Photos in the camera roll can be included in a backup, but icloud doesn't provide storage for photos otherwise.  For photos, always sync them to a computer for archiving.
Photos in photo stream do not count toward your storage limits.
