Consistant MaxDB and J2EE backup on Windows

Hello!
I need a Windows script for a consistent MaxDB+J2EE(and SDM) full offline backup to local disk.
Does anyone have something to share...
I usually do this in via cron in unix, but now I have to set up a similar backup-routine in Windows.
//Fredrik

Hi Fredrik,
I assume you know how to create MaxDB backups (in ONLINE and in ADMIN mode).
So the major question would be to backup the J2EE data stored outside the MaxDB, For that one - I guess - this is the wrong forum.
A backup script for such a consistent backup should anyhow include the steps:
1. Shutdown J2EE,
2. Bring DB to ADMIN mode,
3. perform a Backup of the DB,
4. Backup the J2EE data,
5. restart both DB and J2EE.
Since this obviously involves a downtime I'm wondering if there isn't any mechanism of the J2EE server that would recreate lost or outdated data outside the database after a crash or a recovery.
==> This is really something for the J2EE forum ...!

  • Renew License Problem - Option NSP and J2E (7.0) Windows Not Available

    Hi all,
I Download and instaled the :
    - SAP NetWeaver 7.0 Java Trial Version - SP14SR3
    - SAP NetWeaver 7.0 ABAP Trial Version - SP12
for Windows almost 90 days ago.
To Renew the license I went to link "SAP Sneak Preview License Key Request"
    [https://websmp130.sap-ag.de/sap(bD1lbiZjPTAwMQ==)/bc/bsp/spn/minisap/minisap.htm]
But at "System Id *" combobox the correspondent options for Windows intalations above are not available (J2EE and NSP).
Pls, how to proceed ? I remember I did it with older versions (< SP14/SP12) with no problem.
Best Regards and thanks for your help.

Hi Mr. Klaus Keller, first at all, thanks a lot for your help,
After your msg I requested the license renew for NSP and J2EE with success, but when I tried to instal the new license file NSP.txt (User=SAP* / Transaction=SLICENSE) I received the error msg:
"Error when installing permanent license key - This system's system number is "000000000310714511", but there is a license key for system number "000000000310994500" in the license key file."
In fact the System Number on SLICENSE transaction and NSP.txt are diferents.
Looking at installation documentation (start.html / Getting Started) it shows the screen to request the renew license and it has the option below wich is not available at actual screen:
System number [ _________________ ] (For prologation only)
I tried to change the System Number manually at NSP.txt but the license becames invalid.
I did not try with J2E.txt license cause I notice that the System Number is different too.
    Thanks for your attention,
    Walmir Catunda.

  • ITunes 10.3 and 10.4 on Windows 7 - Sync stuck on backup

On my old system with Windows XP and iTunes 10.3, syncing works just fine, and the backup step completes with no problem.
On a FRESHLY set up Windows 7 system, iTunes 10.3 and 10.4 get stuck after 5-15% of the backup step.
Syncing is impossible without disabling the backup step using a 3rd-party tool.
The backup step creates some 20 to 320 files - the number varies depending on the attempt - and stops doing anything.
The backup process is idle, no I/O anymore.
I googled the problem and found that this problem persists since the very first versions of iTunes, and now it has hit me too -
I never have had that before.
None of the solutions that were recommended (I tried a dozen and spent some 20 hours on this meanwhile!) worked for me.
Uninstalling, re-installing, cleaning the backup directory (which had only the fragment of the stuck backup), checking
access rights, running as admin, disconnecting internet ... don't ask about what I else tried - to no avail.
Of course I also tried to sync with only contacts, calendar and apps, no music or videos.
And it's not the syncing with Outlook, as 1.) it hangs in the backup step and 2.) it works fine when the backup is disabled.
The crash logs didn't reveal anything, as there was no crash.
    Guys ... please fix this!
I need to replace my old system, and I could only install the latest iOS version on my old one, as the new one fails in the backup step.
I can't do that when I can't be sure I can sync and update my iPhone.
I wish I could bill somebody for the time spent on that problem in the past few days.
    P.

    Guess what ...
I gave it a last try, and followed the uninstall procedure from the Apple support site (again),
then checked that all directories they listed were gone (they were), then removed every trace
of "Apple" and "Apple Inc." from the registry, rebooted, then installed iTunes 10.4.0.80 again
after downloading it from the Apple site.
After it started - surprise - it still knew about the different location of my library, and all my settings,
from sync to encoding, were still there!
Then I connected the iPhone, waited until Windows 7 told me the drivers were installed and working,
and I right-clicked the iPhone in iTunes and selected "save" (backup).
And - oh wonder - the backup finished in less than two minutes, INCLUDING music and video files!
Next I did a regular sync - and, oh horror ...
First, it told me some 30 contacts would be changed. Although I couldn't see any difference from the
conflict display (guys, when there is a conflict, show me WHAT is different - is it THAT hard?!?!). I told it to update the entries in Outlook, let the iPhone win.
Next - shock number two - it told me one entry in my calendar would be new, but some almost 400 would be different. It seems they all have one day offset ...
Great ... now I need to check out all my data in Outlook.
Oh boy ... three years that this problem comes and goes, by now it hadn't hit me personally, but now it has.
I'm really done with that **** - now I *can* sync and backup, but what's the point if it corrupts my data?!?!
    Hey APPLE ... I'm soooooooo p*ssed !!

  • What is the best backup drive to use to backup a windows xp pc and to transfer that data to a new iMac i5 May 2011 and then to backup my iMac on it?

What is the best backup drive to use to backup my windows xp pc and to transfer these files to my iMac i5 new in May 2011 and then to backup my i5 iMac?

Get something with both USB and Firewire connections, as big as you can afford.  Format it Fat 32, plug it into the XP machine with USB, drag and drop the files you want to keep, plug it into the iMac with Firewire, drag and drop again.  If you want to use it just to back up your Mac in future, reformat it Mac OS Extended and enable Time Machine.  If you're likely to want to share the drive with Windows PCs in future, leave it Fat 32.

  • Moving SAP Content Server/MaxDB 7.6 to a Windows 2008 R2 Server

    Hi All.
We are in the process of upgrading our server where the SAP content server is located.  We are going from SAP CS 6.30/MaxDB 7.6 to a Windows 2008 R2 server where we want to install SAP CS 6.40/MaxDB 7.8.  I have been following the latest manual from SAP for upgrading to MaxDb 7.8  (2010-10-05) from MaxDb 7.6 using the in-place method.
To date we have installed MaxDB 7.6 on the server.  We restored our latest backup and performed the index checks as spelled out in the manual.  I have the database in ADMIN mode and went to run the MaxDb 7.8 install for the 64 bit window version.  THe install GUI comes up, but the Update selection is grayed out.  This tells me that the install program can not detect our existing database.  I did make sure I was running the install as Admim so I do not think that is the issue.
This is the second time I have tried this upgrade.  The first time I did a comand line upgrade by runing the .bat file DBUPDATE.bat. We have a 110 Gbyte database and this upgrade ran in about 15 minutes, and of course when I went to openthe database it was toast.  Do not want to make the same mistake again.
One other point, since we did a restore of the database, then the index check, we did not run a backup as the manual suggested as we felt it was not necessary.  Does the system require a backup before upgrade and that is why it does not see the database?
Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

I beleive we have resolved the issue with upgrading the database, but now we are having a problem with Datbase Studio 7.8.  Before the upgrade we used Data Manager 7.6.  After the upgrade we installed Database Studio 7.8 and when we go to start it up, we are getting the Problems opening perspective 'com.sap.sdb.tools.ut.perspectives.mainPerspective'. I followed the instruction in another post Problems opening perspective in Database Studio, but we still are getting the error.
Can anybody offer any assistance as we are getting close to the weekend when we want to do the cutover and we are not even done with our first pass at upgrading the SAP content server.
    Thanks

  • J2SE and J2EE Which with what ?

I am running Windows NT 4.0 server, with SP6a & Windows NT 4.0 work station, with SP6a. On reading the various combinations of J2Se and J2EE, which do I need to match. Also I am using ant 1.5.3 and looking at some CORBA 3 work using JacORB 1.4.1. I have been using J2SDK 1.4.1_02 for general jave work.
From what I have been reading it looks as if I need J2SE 1.3.1_02 with J2EE 1.3.1.
What is the real combinations of J2SE and J2EE needed for such a asystem ?
Also at present I do not particularly wish to move to a Win2000 Server/workstation combintion as yet.
    Thanks
    Omegaall

You may now download J2EE 1.4 which will be compatible with your existing installation of J2SE 1.4.1_02.
However, J2EE consists of the application server and additional tools. They are not required, nor are they recommended for heavy duty enterprise work; J2EE is simply a basic "reference" platform for you to get your feet wet on.
Other alternatives do exist, and if you've tracked down Ant, you probably already know about Tomcat, JBoss, WebSphere and a number of commercial engines. All of these packages essentially take J2EE and extend them further (or are faster, or are more reliable, etc etc).
If you have been asked to develop COBRA objects - as opposed to, and I stress this, as opposed to - merely being interested in the technology, then I strongly strongly strongly suggest you find out what your customer is using and set up a scheme similar to theirs. By developing to the same platform, you can save yourself a lot of deployment and packaging headaches, and essentially develop the objects "the right way" for that system.

  • [Forum FAQ] Schedule multiple versions of System Image Backup in Windows 8.1

As we known that there is no UI for user to configure Image backup in Windows 8.1, this is a guide for your to schedule multiple versions of System Image Backup.
Step 1: Create a task to schedule an image backup with following command:
    SCHTASKS /Create /SC WEEKLY /D MON /TN WeeklyFullBackup /RL HIGHEST /ST 13:00 /TR “wbAdmin Start Backup -backupTarget:F: -include:C: -allCritical -quiet”
Step 2: Schedule a robocopy to backup the saved image with BAT file:
Please create a new folder (in this example, the new folder is e:\test2) to save your multiple copies of image backup:
Write following batch file to copy backup and rename with backup date:
    *****************BAT********************
    @echo off
    robocopy e:\test1\ e:\test2\ test.wim
    ren e:\test2\test.wim  test_%date:~10,4%%date:~7,2%%date:~4,2%_%time:~0,2%%time:~3,2%.wim
NOTE: e:\test2 is my location to save multiple copies of image backup; e:\test1 is the location I create the system image backup.
This BAT can also help to rename the copy of image backup with date and time like below:
      3.  Set up a basic task in Task schedule:
Note: please make sure the time you configured follows the time you set for image backup in Step 1.
Action -> Create basic task (Name you task) -> Trigger (Set how often this task should be run) -> Action (Start a program) -> Under Program/script, point to your bat file you create in Step 2.b -> Finish
At the end, you can know more about SCHTASKS and Robocopy via following links:

    Hi Memalyn
Essentially, the bare issue is that you have a 500GB hard drive with only 10GB free. That is not sufficient to run the system properly. The two options you have are to move/remove files to another location, or to install a larger hard drive (eg 2TB). Drive space has nothing to do with SMC firmware, and usually large media files are to blame.
My first recommendation is this: download and run the free OmniDiskSweeper. This will identify the exact size of all your folders - you can drill down into the subfolders and figure out where your largest culprits are. For example, you might find that your Pictures folder contains both an iPhoto Library and copies that you've brought in from a camera but are outside the iPhoto Library structure. Or perhaps you have a lot of purchased video content in iTunes.
If you find files that you KNOW you do not need, you can delete them. Don't delete them just because you have a backup, since if the backup fails, you will lose all your copies.
Don't worry about "cleaners" for now - they don't save much space and can actually cause problems. Deal with the large file situation first and see how you get on.
Let us know what you find out, and if you manage to get your space back.

  • How to Delete Non-System State Backups in Windows 2008R2

    Hello,
I am running a Windows 2008R2 server which uses Windows Server Backup to do the backups. We are using the backup-tool to create non-system state backups of the data-directories on this machine. The backup is done on a dedicated disk connected through iscsi
(to a Synology box). This backup disk has become too small and we have now replaced the Synology box with a bigger one. Here i created a new LUN again for the backup purposes.
Now for my question; The wbadmin.exe tool supplied with W2008R2 does not offer a way to delete the old backups. I know that in Win2012 (which we we also have running) I could add the new iscsi location and then (when enough backups are available on the new
target) use wbadmin.exe delete backup  to delete the old non-system state backups; e.g.
     wbadmin delete backup -version:08/07/2013-21:00
This (very undocumented) feature of Windows 2012 and higher works quite nice and is exactly what i am searching for on the W2008R2 machine; a way to delete the old backups (and under the hood delete the corresponding snapshots)
I've done quite a bit of research and it should be possible to do something similar in 2008 but then manually, The howto is described in the following link: http://blogs.technet.com/b/filecab/archive/2009/06/22/backup-version-and-space-management-in-windows-server-backup.aspx .
Basically it describes that you should use DiskShadow.exe to remove e.g. the oldest snapshot with a  command like :
    Delete shadows OLDEST \\?\Volume{7fc1871b-2e1f-11dd-a339-001e4fb7af35}
Windows Server backup (wbadmin) should then on the next run 'see' this deletion and update its list of available backups:
"You can perform the same steps manually to delete backups on demand. However, the backup catalog update cannot be done manually and it will happen instead during
    the next backup."
I've done this on our box and it indeed removes the shadows from the list. However, in the Windows Backup 'dashboard' it still lists the backups as available. Also after a new backup has finished (according the the article this is when it should 'update'
    its backup catalog). When I try to restore a backup from a date that i just removed it gives a nice message that this is impossible because the snapshot is not available (duh :)) ;
Unable to browse Local disk. The shadow copy of the backup stored on the backup destination cannot be found.
So it seems that the aforementioned method works; it removes the snapshot and frees diskspace, but it doesn't update the Windows Backup catalog. As a result the management tool (GUI) still lists the backups which are no longer available! How can i change
this? Is there any way to do this? I found one article which mentions that the Dashboard bases its screen on the Windows Logs and not on the actual VSS snapshots available:
http://forum.wegotserved.com/index.php/topic/23757-start-afresh-with-server-backup/ (WHS) In my situation however this seems unlikely because i don't have any logs that date back as far as my backups go.
In my opinion this is a real bug and it leaves us with a in-consequent backup schema. Does anyone have similar situations or even a solution to my problem?
    Kind Regard, Martin

    Hi Mandy,
Yes! I think i got my answer and I now get how windows backup works in Windows 2008 :-) It turns out that I dismissed some suggestions a bit too soon. The answer lies in the command mentioned earlier :
    Wbadmin delete catalog
This command does delete all the backups from a perspective of the Windows Backup UI, but leaves the VSS snapshots intact. This means that the backups are still available, but you just can't restore them with the User Interface. In order to 'update' the
UI with the current available snapshots (which you can list with diskshadows list shadows all), you have to re-add the existing media on which the backups took place using the Wizard of the UI. It will then inform you that existing backups are available and
if you want to keep these for restore purposes. If you click 'yes', and THEN perform a backup ... All the current available backups will be shown in the User Interface :-)
So for my steps taken to change from one iscsi (iscsi1) to another (iscsi2):
    - Add the 2nd iscsi target with the Windows Backup UI
using Backup schedule , Modify backup -> [desired options] => Add more backup destinations -> iscsi2
    - Remove the 1st iscsi target with the Windows Backup UI
using Backup schedule , Modify backup -> [desired options] => Remove current backup destinations -> iscsi1
    - Run some backups on the new destination. Old restore points are now still available. When enough restore points are available on the new volume iscsi2 start deleting old data from iscsi1 as follows:
    - Run diskshadow
    diskshadow
    - list all the current snapshots
    list shadows all
    - remove all the snapshots of iscsi1  (repeat until all shadows are gone of iscsi1)
    delete shadows oldest \\?\volume{yourvolumeid}\
    - delete the windows backup catalog
    wbadmin delete catalog
    - Restart the windows backup UI and re-add your schedule on the new volume iscsi2. It will now ask if you want the keep the existing data for restore purposes; click yes.
    - After the next backup only the backups of volume iscsi2 will be listed and everything is fine !
I Hope my post will help others with similar questions. It was quite a search before I understood the way it works. Basically as long as your VSS snapshots are still available and listed by diskshadow you still have the backups and you will be able to get
this in sync with the steps above (delete schedule and re-add originating targets containing the snapshots). After the next backup the UI will update itself.
(In my case someway along the way I lost my originating snapshots, but because I already had my new backup set it didn't bother me; It kept me from having to delete all 510 old backups :) with diskshadow)
    Regard, Martin

I have tried and failed to copy my iTunes library and playlists from my Windows 8 desktop to my Windows 7 laptop using an external hard drive. Can it be done? Help would be appreciated. I have followed instructions found online but the library of music doesn't pull in.  Thanks!
    Nate

Migrate an iTunes library from one computer to another
These are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer.
    Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
    Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entireiTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one, with ratings, play counts, playlists etc. preserved. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
I'd normally recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library and unlike copying with Windows Explorer the process can be resumed if it is interrupted and it will continue to the next item if there are any read/access errors.
Note if you have iOS devices and haven't moved your contacts and calendar items across then you should create one dummy entry of each in your new profile and iTunes should  merge the existing data from the device.
If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See Make a split library portable.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library or a backup then then seeRecover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data.
