Consistenly "too many arguments" when OCR any scanned PDF file in Adobe Acrobat 9.2

Hi,
plz see attached file for a 2 page sample. I have purchased AA9 to get better OCR (clearscan). Before, we were using AA6, which sometimes crashed, but not consistently.
However, AA9 (9.2.0) now always crashes with the same error "too many arguments" after finishing of the OCR. All pages turn completely white. Saving them causes the contents to be gone permanently and even happened with batch OCR.
OCRing on http://www.cvisiontech.com/online-conversion/general/main.html works fine, but that product we have not yet purchased.
Does anyone have an idea what might cause this and how to resolve it?
The PDF-s have been generated by HP Digital Sender and Canon scanner/printer MF9170. Both types of scans give the same result.
Regards,
Guido

There is no virus protection or spy protection on this PC. It runs the following:
Windows Server 2003 x64 SP2
The file gives the error both on my local disk and on my (Samba) network disk.
As far as tested all scans give the same error at the end of the scanning process. Might it be related to x64 handling from a x32 program?

    Hello djensen1x,
Could you please let me know what version of Acrobat are you using.
Also, tell me your workflow of combining those PDF files?
Please share the screenshot of the error message that you get.
    Hope to get your response.

  • How can i edit a scanned pdf file in adobe 9 pro ?

how can i edit a scanned pdf file in adobe acrobae 9 pro ?

With Clear Scan you get the text replacing the graphics of text. That can be edited. If you do searchable PDF conversion, you can still edit (I think). However it is an edit of the hidden layer of text behind the graphic and does not show on screen normally.
Usually the best choice is to ask the author for the original file to edit. If that is a copyright issue, then you should not be editing anyway.

  • Cant open any old pdf with the adobe acrobat dc [Android]

I recently updated my adobe reader to adobe acrobat dc and since then I cannot open any old pdf files in my phone. The new ones I download open just fine,  but the old ones have just disappeared. The only files I can see are those I have downloaded after updating the app and listed in the Recent page.
I tried open my old pdf files by clicking on the floating folder icon in the Recent page, which brings me to my downloads folder in my phone. After clicking on an old pdf file, a dialogue will open saying that adobe will create a local copy of the document. After I click continue, it will say that the file cannot be accessed, and ask me to check the location or the network (the pdf files were those the app listed on the downloads folder on my phone). I have also tried to open them from my phone's own download manager. It will first tell me the file cannot be found, in which I will redownload it, but then the app says that it can't be opened because it is not a valid pdf file. How can that be true when it opened just fine before I updated the app?  All my old pdf files are also not detected automatically by the app, which was the one feature I loved so much about the old version of Adobe reader. What must I do to open my old pdf files that are in my phone?
my phone is a Samsung galaxy s4.

Are you trying to open the documents from the Downloads tab as shown below?
If that is the case, it is possible you are trying to open the files which were previously downloaded and no longer exist on your device. To open the files which actually exist on your device, you can go to the Internal Storage tab which exists below the Download tab. The Internal storage tab will show the folders available. Go to the downloads folder in the internal storage tab and then to the 'Adobe Reader' or 'Adobe Acrobat' folder and you can find the files there.
    Thanks.

  • How to I stop the Preview Pane in Windows 7 retaining control when I open a PDF document using Adobe Acrobat (Reader is NOT installed)

I have the preview pane active when selecting PDF Documents.  When I open a PDF document I am unable to save any changes. the error message I receive:
"The documents could not be saved. The file ma be read-only,or another user may have it open. Please save the document with a different name of in a different folder"
The document is not read only and no other user has it open.  If I turn the preview pane OFF there is no problem saving changes.  I have also un-installed Adobe Reader.
Other programs (such as Excel, Word) do not experience the same problems as the PDF documents.
    Does anyone have a solution?

    Hi snoreaustralia,
It sounds like you just need to associate the PDF filename extension with Acrobat, rather than Preview. Please see this document from the Microsoft Help for instructions on choosing the default program for opening a particular file type (in your case, PDF): Change which programs Windows uses by default - Windows Help

  • Can't open any PDF file with Adobe Acrobat XI Pro

I have tried to open multiple Acrobat files but none will open. I get a FATAL ERROR message saying: "Acrobat failed to connect to a DDE server."  I've created documents in word and publisher and am able to convert to pdf format but after the pdf file has been created I cannot open to view and I get the error message. Please help! Thank you!

No I am thinking that the problem is with Acrobat XI Pro. Because as previously noted I can create a Word document and save as a PDF, the PDF document will be created by Acrobat XI Pro but will not open with Acrobat XI Pro, which normally happens automatically upon creating the PDF file from say Word, Exel, Publisher, etc. When I try to open with Acrobat XI Pro it give me the FATAL ERROR message saying: "Acrobat failed to connect to a DDE server". Since I could not open any of my PDF documents with Acrobta XI Pro, because I had Acrobat XI Pro as my default PDF creater and reader, I installed Adobe Reader, hoping that it would allow me to view the PDF documents that I had just created with Acrobat XI Pro and it did. The problem is that I cannot open Acrobat XI Pro to creat or edit or add PDF restrictions on  a PDF document straight from Acrobat XI Pro, but I can create a, say Word document, and save as a PDF file. Before installing Adobe Reader I could not open, see or edit the just created PDF file created through Word it is just now after installing Acrobat Reader.
    Also worth noting.
I have been told that this same problem happened sometime ago with Adobe Acrobat X Pro (Vesion 10) and that the problem was fixed by editing something within the registry. Does anyone know anything about that? Thanks!

  • Cannot open any pdf file with Adobe Acrobat X Pro

    Hey 12a758y,
You might need to choose 'Check for Updates' options in the Help menu.
If the issue still persists, then go to 'Help > Repair Acrobat Installation' option

  • When I download a PDF file using Adobe I get a black screen when attempting to print and if I save the file I get a corrupted response when opening it.

This does not always happen, for example if I get a PDF file by email, it appears to be primarilly when I download from the internet.
I use Adobe Reader X1. Can you assist please. Thanks

Thanks Eric, no it does not help the matter. I opened the file using preview and the same message appeared. Thanks.

    Hi Peter,
Please check the performance by disabling the 'Protected mode' in Reader.
Edit > Preferences > Security (Enhanced) > Enable Protected Mode at startup
Uncheck this option. Click on Ok.
Close and launch Reader and check.

  • Why does Adobe Reader XI set my keyboard to display NUMBERS ONLY when I open a .pdf file?

I need to keep re-booting my laptop to resolve above bug. Ideas please?

ONE MONTH AND NO REPLY - WHO  CAN ADDRESS THIS BUG????
WHEN I OPEN A .pdf document using ADOBE READER 11.0.2  BEHAVIOR is described BELOW. I CANNOT BE MORE COGENT.
It occurs both within Adobe Reader functions, such as page printing options, and in all APPLICATIONS (Gmail, Word, etc) once I close .pdf document.
SOLUTION: I MUST POWER DOWN/UP EACH TIME I USE ADOBE READER. THIS IS IDIOCY.
    1. Keyboard appears RESET to display numbers ONLY, and numbers displayed to DO NOT CORRESPOND to numbers I TYPE.
AFTER ADOBE READER IS CLOSED I type "A" into say, an email address field and a random number, say, "9" appears in the field not an "A".
WHILE IN ADOBE READER  I type "23" into the .pdf "go to page" field, and get other numbers completely.
Happens ONLY when I open a .pdf file with Adobe Reader 11.0.2 (XI).
Both behaviors occur whether I open a download .pdf file or attempt to open a .pdf via search engine Google + my Browsers.
    2. Operating System = Windows 7.
    3. My Browser = Internet Explorer 9 or Mozilla Foxfire; behavior is identical on either. Search engine used is Google.
Weird, but true, and tiresome. I've had it..

  • HTTP-400 Too many arguments passed error

I am getting the following error when using a multiselect list item to select/update data in the tabular form.
    Bad Request
Your browser sent a request that this server could not understand.
mod_plsql: /pls/otn/wwv_flow.accept HTTP-400 Too many arguments passed in. Got 2346 parameters. Upper limit is 2000
    Oracle-Application-Server-10g/10.1.2.3.0 Oracle-HTTP-Server Server at apex.oracle.com Port 80
I have built this prototype application on the Oracle’s hosted apex.oracle.com site.
The application page has three sections. Section 1 is an HTML region with the multiselect list. Section 2 is an HTML region with 20 text items. Section 3 has the tabular form with 25 columns that are used to update the data. The tabular form pagination values “Number of Row” and “Maximum Row Count” are set to 500.
Up until now, the multiselect list in the Section 1 was just a simple select list and I never had any issues. I guess the number of arguments passed was low. Per our customer requirement, I had to change the simple select list to a multiselect list. Now, If I select multiple values in the select list, I get the above mentioned error. But, it does not seem to happen all the time. For example, the first time I select 3 values in the multiselect list, the page renders fine, and I am able to enter/save data in the tabular form. Then, I select two other values in the multiselect list, I would get the error.
I am getting this error on the Oracle’s hosted apex.oracle.com site where my prototype application exists. And, according to the error oracle is using 10g/10.1.2.3.0. Is there any way to circumvent this issue so I can demo my application to the customer using the multiselect list?
I found several threads on this forum regarding the same error and it seems that there was a bug in the older versions of Oracle Application server. Also, there were discussions about setting the PlsqlMaxParameters.
Our dev/test/prod environment would be set up using the Oracle Application Server-10g/10.1.3. The question is would we need to add a line to set the PlsqlMaxParameters value in the plsql.conf file? In addition, what is the maximum value that it can be set to?
Please forgive me for the longwinded description and the question - only way I could describe the situation.
    Thanks,
    DP

    Varad and Sc0tt,
Thank you both for your responses.
Varad – Yes, I can/will reduce the amount of data so it does not cause the tabular form to go over the 2000 field limit. If that is not possible, I will at least make the users aware of this issue. Since the same data is used for the other pages in the application, the users might want to keep all the data.
Sc0tt – thanks for providing the information for your environment and settings. To plan for the future, we will have to set the value to something high also, around 8-10K range, and adjust later if we have to.
Thank you both, I will mark both of your answers as helpful and the question as being answered.

    any ideas?

    Hi Odie,
Not too familiar with XQuery rewrite, but i suspect by providing this hint, Oracle cannot optimize the query whatsoever.... tried this hint in my actual query and basically hangs.... I will attempt at opening an SR with Oracle...
the other option i'm looking at is checking the date ranges outside of xquery, and using a mix of xmltable, xmlexists and the SQL XML functions to reconstruct my xml.

  • HTTP-400 Too many arguments passed - Upper Limit is 4000

    Hi,
I have encountered this problem with Apex 3.0.1 on Oracle 10g and unfortunately I am not able to increase the PlsqlMaxParameters value of 4000 due to business rules. With regards to this and workarounds, I have the following queries:
    1) Can someone suggest possible workarounds for this problem - I am basically presenting the user with a checkbox response and sometimes this may involve over 400 records sometimes - alot I know but users would like to see everything on a single page - no pagination. This is calling the HTTP-400 error - any suggestions for workaround(s) or do I need to rewrite the page with pagination or something else?
    2) Would using APEX_COLLECTIONS assist in breaking down on the number of parameters sent to mod_plsql?
    3) Would increasing the PlsqlMaxParameters to say 10000 cause any performance issues?
Any other help on this would be much appreciated.
    Thanks.
    Tony.

    Hi,
It is indeed a valid work around
    http://iadvise.blogspot.com/2008/05/apex-http-400-too-many-arguments-passed.html
It can have some performance effect.
But test this for your situation.

I tried to send it through gmail and the acct is  a POP acct
I'm not concerned about sending to the long address list. I just can't get the email and window that says "cannot send emai using the server..." to go away. The default must be "retry", because although I cannot see the choices at the bottom of the window if I hit return it trys again... and then of course comes back with the very long pop up window that I cannot see the bottom of so I can tell it to quit trying...
