Consistent alerts error 3170...and my settings are correct! HELP!
About every 5 emails will not send due to an error with this message. It has been happening more and more the last few weeks. The emails always finally send- but this is ridiculous.
I have Verizon Fios
-Mac 10.7.5
-Use Pop 3 on Outlook for Mac 11 version 14.3.9
Here is the notice:
Outlook cannot find the server. Verify the server information is entered correctly in the Account Settings, and that your DNS settings in the Network pane of System Preferences are correct.
error code 3170
This has been happening only when trying to send emails and it only happens every 4th or 5th email. After about 10 minutes any held up email does not get the error anymore and sends.
All settings are the latest Verizon settings from their even newest notice on 11-21-13...this has been happening since they changed the ports to 995 on the pop3 incoming and 465 on the SMTP outgoing several months back. It is just getting worse!
Please help.
If duct_tape's excellent post does not fix it see this please : http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/mac/forum/macoffice2011-macoutlook/error-code-3170/192a19bf-5f7a-...

Hi - I am assuming your other wireless devices can connect so try this - go to Settings-->General-->Reset-->Reset Netwrok Settings - if this doesn't work you are still in your 90 day support window so I would contact Apple directly at - http://www.apple.com/support/contact/

upgraded to ios6 this morning on iphone 4. Now my email will not work and the settings are correct
Try a couple of basic troubleshooting steps that can apply to any iPad issue.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
Quit the mail app and restart. In order to quit or close apps - Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
None of these things may work, but without more specific information, they are a good place to start. -
I have been updating my site over the last week, using Iweb SEO TOOL, but suddenly 2 days ago I can no longer update when i go to publish it says "invalid password "on Iweb Test. and on SEO Tool, Login Failed Login Authentication Failed, the password and all settings are correct.
I am 100% sure the all the setting are correct, as it has been working for the last 7 months and I have just been updating it, then suddenly it stopped, I have all the FTP settings wrote down, and even changed the passwords twice hoping that may work to no avail.Try the following:
delete the iWeb preference files, com.apple.iWeb.plist and com.apple.iWeb.plist.lockfile, that resides in your Home() /Library/Preferences folder.
go to your Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete its contents.
launch iWeb and try again.
If that doesn't help continue with:
move the domain file from your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder to the Desktop.
launch iWeb, create a new test site, save the new domain file and close iWeb.
go to the your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder and delete the new domain file.
move your original domain file from the Desktop to the iWeb folder.
launch iWeb and try again. -
Trying to publsh changes to my website. I get a message "There was an error communicating with the FTP server. Try again later, or check with your service provider." I did, and all my settings are correct, but still cannot publish.
Any other ideas? Most likely you are suffering from a bug in iWeb that doesn't let you publish websites if an image you have added to your site begins with space. You can either search for that image and remove it.

Cannot send email from iPhone. Outgoing settings are correct. Checked them against iPad settings which are OK and can send mail. What can I do?
For IOS7.02
The user name and password are in two places. Make sure they are correct in both locations.
Settings>>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>>your email>>
First spot is here under INCOMING MAIL SERVER
Below this is OUTGOING MAIL SERVER
Select: SMTP smtp.comcast.net>> PRIMARY SERVER :smtp.comcast.net>>second location of user name and password
Here is the second place that the user name and password must be checked.
I had changed my password in the first spot, but not the second spot. I had been receiving the same error message. This fixed my problem. -
I keep getting this error message when I try to log into Itunes, has anyone else seen this error? If so how did you fix it?
Itunes could not connect to itunes store. The network connection timed out. Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, and try again.Have you disabled any firewall and security/antivirus programs? This seems to have helped the vast majority of people who have posted the same problem in this forum.

What do I do when it says "make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active" when I am trying to update or restore my ipod?
Are yo getting a network timeout error?
Disabling the computer's antivirus and firewall during the download and update usually resolves the timeout error. -
My iPhone is silent (ring tones and text alerts) since downloading IOS7. All settings are correct and the side button is on. HELP! Missing inportant calls.
Try hard reset.
Hold down the sleep and home button until the screen goes black. Turn the phone back on.
If that doesn't work, back up the iphone using iTunes.
Re-install the iOS by putting the iPhone into DFU (recovery mode.)
To do this,
Make sure the phone is pluged in to you computer with iTunes open.
Hold the Sleep and home button until the screen goes black, immediately release the sleep button but continue to hold the home button.
After a few seconds your iTunes should recognize your phone in DFU mode.
"iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes."
At this point you should click on "Restore iPhone"
After your phone is done restoring, don't start as new iPhone. Restore from back up.
If that doesn't work, you're SOL.
Take it to Apple. Tell them they are stupid. -

When updating to iOS 5.0.1. get the err -3259, thus unable to install new iOS. The message I receive goes: "THE NETWORK CONNECTION TIMED OUT. MAKE SURE YOUR NETWORK SETTINGS ARE CORRECT AND YOUR NETWORK CONNECTION IS ACTIVE, OR TRY AGAIN LATER."
Does anyone know how to solve this tiresome problem, please!?? The update is downloaded upto 723.5MB, and is required upto 723,6MB, then the error message pops out! Tnx.I have a quick wifi connection (Mac shows it as about 35 megabits) but I couldn't get the 5.0.1 OTA to work, I had to do it via cable to my computer's iTunes - and as I was already on iOS 5 it was only a small download, basically the same size as the OTA size.
As the original poster is talking about a 730 meg download then I assume that they are still on iOS 4.3.5 or below and can therefore only download via their computer's iTunes - you need to be on iOS 5+ before you get the OTA option.
