Consistent font layout in konqueror

hello,
i've switched to konqueror, because it's (really) faster than firefox. everything fine so far, but it's annoying that the fonts are somehow inconsistent. i have a default font of 10pt, but on some sites the font is huge, like here arch wiki:
and on other the font is tiny, like here google:
can someone help me?
as you see i've googled a little, but no satisfying solutions found.

DonVla, did you ever resolve this problem? I'm giving konqueror a shot, but have the same problem. Perfect example: Google search vs wikipedia. The fonts on wikipedia are bigger.
It's too bad, because beyond that, I'm kind of liking Konqueror.
no, no solution yet. after some time i gave up. i'm still using firefox...
though suggestions are still welcome. i still want to switch to konqueror.

  • I want to see different font layouts in keyboard viewer

Up until Mac OS 10.4.x it was possible to look for different keyboard layouts in different fonts. This was very handy if you wanted to know, which key combination to press for a certain Zapf Dingbats character.
This feature was already limited with 10.5.x and has disappeared with 10.6.x
I want to have this feature back!
Or How Do You Manage to key in characters from fonts like Zapf Dingbats or Wingdings???
    Thanks for any help

    Hi Tom!
This is a huge step in the right direction! Thanks!
But it doesn't tell me which keyboard keys represent e.g. the aircraft or a black scissors.
With keyboard viewer I knew , what to keys to hold and what to type. In our case all of our users knew the had to press Shift - 9 (on German keyboard layout) to get the airplane. Now, with 10.6 a new ZapfDingbats , Shift-9 isn't working anymore and no way to see which keys to press.
This slows down the creation process.
So , i stick with my demand for the keyboard viewer as it was in 10.4.x -- although I love to have it as big as it can be in 10.6.x
    Thanks again

  • Fonts and layout changes

    Hi everyone,
tried everything I could think of, but to no avail. Could anyone have a look and tell me why the fonts, layout of the buttons and drop shadows change in a PC Internet Explorer? In Safari (Mac) it all looks ok. In Firefox (Mac) it looks ok, except for the logo placeholder. I'm using web safe fonts and colours. iWeb '09 (3.0.1) Hmmmmm..... Any suggestions are appreciated.

  • Font changes depending on browser

Website built in Must with Verdana set as font throughout the site but the font changes dependng on the browser being used.  HELP!!!

Verdana is a "web safe" font. The whole concept of a "web safe" font is a bit of a misnomer. A web safe font is actually a list of fonts.
The tooltip that appears when you hover over "Verdana" in the list of Web Safe Fonts indicates the "fallback" fonts or the "font stack" associated with this web safe font.
The idea with web safe fonts is to choose fonts that are on the vast majority of computers, devices and operating system versions the visitors to your site will be using. However, no one font is on 100% of all computers and devices. When "Verdana" is not on a particular visitor's computer or device the browser will "fallback" to Tahoma. If Tahoma isn't available it will fallback to Geneva. If that's not available it will ask the browser to select a sans-serif font.
Even if Verdana is available on the visitor's computer or device, it may not be the same version of Verdana you were using (and thus may have subtlely different font metrics and thus different line breaks). Even if it is the identical font, the text layout and line breaks may still vary from browser to browser due to subtle differences in the text layout engines in each browser. In the case where the font isn't available at all and the browser has to fallback to another font, the appearance and layout of the text will be significantly different.
To get more consistent font display (though still with some variation from browser to browser and OS to OS) and live text in the browser, use Web Fonts. Click the "Add Web Fonts" choice in the Fonts menu and add some Web Fonts to your menu. These fonts are automatically downloaded from Typekit to the computer/device a site visitor is using, so the same font is always used. (However, rendering and line break differences will still occur due to the differences between browsers and operating systems.)
Another, albeit generally less desirable, option is to use System fonts. When a System Font is used Muse converts the text frame to an image. This makes for slower page load times, but in cases where a specific font absolutely must be used, it may be the only alternative. Muse automatically generates "alt text" for the image so the original text is still there for search engines to index and screen readers to read, but the user won't be able to select or search the text on the page in the browser.

  • Adobe Reader XI 11.0.07: font size in comments has been reduced to about 5pt with this update

    Win7 x64/sp1 with many updates:
For the last few years, I have experienced major font problems with the comments, such as attempting to make a change in a font style causing Reader to lock up for about 3 or 4 minutes.
I allowed the update to 11.0.07 this am and the pdf I was working on, at length yesterday, now has the font size in the numerous comments I created reduced to about 5 pt. I know: that small isn't possible, but that's about what it looks like.
I believe that Adobe's quality control on Reader has been grossly lacking in the comments area. It has been suggested to me that I switch to PDF-XChange.
I will seriously consider it, because, as I open up pdfs from years past that I need to use for the material I'm working on, I see that the font size in all of those comments has been reduced drastically as well.
The only remedy that I can find is to open each comment individually and "Clear formatting."
That will amount to an enormous waste of time.
Please hire someone who is interested in quality control.

    Hi Rohit Sh,,
Thanks for your answer. I have encountered a similar problem. While the font size of the comment created before the update remains unchanged, that of the comment created after the update reduce to about 5pt.
Then I tried to increase the Font Size from "Commenting" section under Edit->Preferences, the font size of both the old comments and new comments get increased. So, for example, suppose the desired font size is 10pt but the new comment look like 5pt, then when I update its value into 10pt again, nothing happened; when I change its value into 15pt, the old comment become 15pt and the new comment look like around 7-8pt; after this, if I change its value back to 10pt, the old comment would become 10pt as desired but the new comment now would become even smaller than 5pt. In conclusion, I can never make all comment have the consistent font sizes by changing the Font Size from "Commenting" section under Edit->Preferences, as it worked in the earlier version.
Please fix this. Thank you very much.

  • Is there a way to make text that is pasted into text fields be consistent?

People want to paste text into the form fields but they don't want to have to change the font before they paste it and they would like it to change to a consistent font.

And if Drew's excellent reply doesn't do it for you, here's some text I prepared earlier (in best Blue Peter stylee for those of you in the UK... ;-))
    The process is this:
    1) create your menu background with all of the graphics in a single layer - make it look like you want the menu to be when no button is selected. Add all text, etc for the buttons. Flatten it and save as a pict file, 24bit colour.
    2) add a layer to this photoshop image and just add the highlights that you want - a tick, arrow, underline, etc. Hide the background layer and convert this new layer to grayscale (you will need to flatten the image), then save it as a .pict file, 4 bit max - 2 bit could do it, too (You might now want to use the history tool to undo certain steps and save the file as a psd file so that you can make changes if you need to).
    3) import both .pict files into DVDSP and set one as the background and the other as the overlay into your menu. In the menu editor, click and drag the mouse over the places where the buttons need to be. Click in one of those button hotspots and look in the property inspector under the 'color' tab. Use the sliders there to adjust what you want the highlights to be in each button state - remember that you are using a simple overlay in gray scale.

  • Why is getLineMetrics inaccurate when using device fonts* or immediately after resizing a TextField?

    1.  We need getLineMetrics to return correct values immediately after changing a TextField's width/height or any property that would affect the layout metrics, withouth having to alter other properties like setting the text to itself (p1.text = p1.text).  Currently, if you change the width of a text field to match the stage width for example, getLineMetrics will not return correct values until the next frame.... UNLESS you set the text property.
    2.  We also need some kind of "stage scaled" event in addition to the "stage resize" event (which only fires when stage scale mode is no_scale), because stage scaling affects the rendered size of device fonts so dramatically that we must call getLineMetrics again.  This is not the case for fonts antialiased for readability, since their size is relatively stable with scaling, as demonstrated by drawing a box around the first line once and then scaling the stage.
So those are the problems.  The asterisk in the title of this post is there because it seem that TextField.getLineMetrics is accurate with device fonts, but I cannot take advantage of that accuracy without a way to detect when the player is scaled.  I can only confirm its accuracy at a 1:1 scale, since there is no way to recalculate the size of the line rectangle once the player is scaled, aside from setting a timer of some sort which is a real hack not to mention horribly inefficient with no way to detect when the stage has actually be scaled.
I use device fonts because embedded fonts look terrible and blurred compared to device font rendering.  The "use device font" setting matches the appearance of text in web browsers exactly.  The only way to get embedded/advanced antialiased text in flash to approximate that of the device font look is to primarily set gridFitType to PIXEL instead of SUBPIXEL, and secondly set autokerning to true to fix problems caused by the PIXEL grid fit type.  That ensure strokes are fitted solidly to the nearest pixel, however it still lacks the "ClearType" rendering that device fonts use, which has notable color offset to improve appearance on LCD monitors, rather than the purely grayscale text that flash uses in its subpixel rendering.  Frankly, failure to use device fonts because of API issues, is the only reason why Flash sometimes doesn't look as good as HTML text and why people say text in Flash "looks blurry".  I'm tired of hearing it.  If the player simply dispatched an event when scaled and updated the metrics immediately when any property of the text field that would affect the metrics is changed, then we could all happily use device fonts and Flash text would look great.  As is stands, because of the two problems I mentioned in the opening paragraph, we're stuck dealing with these problems.
If you create two text fields named "p1" and "p2" for paragraph 1 and 2, populate them with an identical line of text and set one to "use device fonts" and the other to "antialias for readability", then use this code to draw boxes around the first line of text in each of them:
    import flash.text.TextField;import flash.text.TextLineMetrics;graphics.clear();drawBoxAroundLine( p1, 0 );drawBoxAroundLine( p2, 0 );function drawBoxAroundLine( tf:TextField, line_index:int ):void{          var gutter:Number = 2;          var tlm:TextLineMetrics = tf.getLineMetrics( line_index );          graphics.lineStyle( 0, 0x0000ff );          graphics.drawRect( tf.x + gutter, tf.y + gutter, tlm.width, tlm.height );}
The box surrounding the line of text in the "use device fonts" box is way off at first.  Scaling the player demonstrates that the text width of the device font field fluctuates wildly, while the "antialias for readability" field scales with the originally drawn rectangle perfectly.  That much is fine, but again to clarify the problems I mentioned at the top of this post:
Since the text width fluctuates wildly upon player resize, assuming that getLineMetrics actually works on device fonts (and that's an assumption at this point), you'd have to detect the player resize and redraw the text.  Unfortunately, Flash does not fire the player resize event unless the stage scale mode is set to NO_SCALE.  That's problem #1.  And if that's by design, then they should definitely add a SCALE event, because changes in player scale dramatically affect device font layout, which requires recalculation of text metrics.  It's a real issue for fluid layouts.
The second problem is that even when handling the resize event, and for example setting the text field width's to match the Stage.stageWidth property, when the text line wraps, it's not updated until the next frame.  In other words, at the exact resize event that causes a word to wrap, calling getLineMetrics in this handler reports the previous line length before the last word on the line wrapped.  So it's delayed a frame.  The only way to get the correct metrics immediately is basically to set the text property to itself like "p1.text = p1.text".  That seems to force an update of the metrics.  Otherwise, it's delayed, and useles.  I wrote about this in an answer over a year ago, showing how sensitive the text field property order is: http://stackoverflow.com/a/9558597/88409

As I've noted several times, setting the text property to its own current value should not be necessary to update the metrics, and in some subclasses of text field, setting a property to its own value is ignored as the property is not actually changing and processing such a change would cause unnecessary work which could impact application performance.  Metrics should be current upon calling getLineMetrics.  They are not.  That's the problem.
From a programming perspective, having to set the text property (really "htmlText" to preserve formatting) to itself to update metrics is almost unmanagable, and doesn't even make sense considering "htmlText" is just one of a dozen properties and methods on a TextField that could invalidate the layout metrics (alignment, setTextFormat, width, height, antiAliasMode, type, etc.), and I would have to override every one of those properties so that I could set htmlText = htmlText.  Using such a subclass isn't even possible if I want to use the Flash IDE to add text fields to the stage.  I would have to iterate over the display list and replace all existing fields with my subclass, which also isn't a good workaround because there's no way to update any and all variable references that may have been made to those instances.
Frome what I've read, the invalide+render event system is unreliable.  My layout framework is similar to that of Windows Forms, and performs layout immediately, with dozens of docking modes and uses suspend and resume layout calls for efficiently resizing multiple child objects in a component.  Certain calculations cannot be aggregated for a render event, because some containers are semi-reflexive, meaning they can expand to fit the child contents while also contraining the child size, depending on whether the contain was resized or the child component was resized, so as a matter of correctness the resizing calcultation must occur immediately when the child resizes, otherwise a top-down pass on the display hierarchy for resizing will not be sufficient.
As far as waiting until the next frame, no that is not possible, as it will cause one frame to be completely wrong.  If I was dragging the browser window to resize it, it would look terrible as virtually every single frame during the resizing operation would be incorrect.  Also, in the case where a user clicks the maximize or restore button of the web browser, the resizing event will occur exactly once, so if the metrics are not correct when that occurs, there is no recalculation occuring on the next frame, it will just be wrong and sit there looking wrong indefinitely.
In case it's not obvious by now, this is a web application.  It uses the NO_SCALE stage scaling option, so notification of the event is not actually an issue for me personally.  I was just pointing out that for anyone not using the NO_SCALE option, there is no event in Flash to detect player scale.  What you're suggesting is using a JavaScript event and using the ExternalInterface bridge to send a message, which there is no guarantee whether it will be processed in a timely matter by the player and introduces possible platform inconsistancies, depending on whether the browser has actually resized the Flash interface at that point or what state Flash is in when it tries to recalculate the size of the text.  The browser may send that event to flash before the player is actually resized, so it will be processing incorrect sizes and then resized after the fact.  That's not a good solution.  Flash needs a scale event in addition to a resize event.  I'm really surprised it doesn't have one.  At the very least, the existing resize event should be dispatched reguardless of the stage scale mode, rather than occuring exclusively in the NO_SCALE mode.
Bottom line is that getLineMetrics needs to return correct values every time it is called, without having to set the "text" property immediately before calling it.  If such a requirement exists, which seems to be the case, then that needs documented in the getLineMetrics method.

  • Font size iMovie 6

    Hello folks:
This is my first post. I'm working on just my second project in iMovie, so I hope I'm not asking something obvious, but I didn't see it in the documentation or in several pages of posts here.
This is the first time I've experimented with written narration on a series of black screens. I'm trying to create a somber effect with the narrative transitions, but I notice that the fonts seem to be scaled automatically smaller when I write a longer sentence. This makes the text look very inconsistent as it passes.
Another thing I'm noticing is that in the Centered Title feature where you can stack several lines of text that fade in and out, the first line is always a larger size font than succeeding lines, even though I haven't adjusted font size for succeeding lines.
If I want to write just one sentence per clip, is there a rule of thumb that I can observe for maximum sentence length that will help ensure consistent font size from one clip to the next? And is there a way to stack sentences in a multi-line Centered Title so that the first line is the same size as the rest of the lines? Anyone else experiencing this problem?
The font I'm using now is Futura medium. I've tried selecting succeeding lines and moving the font size slider and it doesn't work.
    Thanks for any help provided.

  • How to deal with inconsistent font sizes?

I sign every post at my blog (using the type tool).
Even if I use the same fontsize in photoshop the result in actual size varies (I realize this has to do with cropping it in camera raw), Is there a way of getting a consistent font size (i.e size in pixels), without having to go down the path of having a customized signature brush?
    TIA.

Problem seems to be fixed (though why still puzzles me).
It appears as if a few images had in deed changed resolution. (My workflow had been as follows - open them up in CR, make adjustments - I had then on the troublesome photos made some adjustments in PS then saved them as .psd.) - for some unknown reason a few of them had been saved in 240 DPI as opposed to 300.
When I was checking the resolution of my files to verify that they were all the same I had been looking at the various .NEF files. I feel like an idiot
It was a case of not paying attention.
    Thanks again!

  • Some text appears to be one font in one computer, but a different font in another computer.

The navigation buttons in my .fla file are set to the font, Arial MT in Bold.  It displays no problem on my desktop computer.  However, when I view the website on my laptops, the font changes to what looks to be something like Times New Roman.
The same thing happens with my "Read More" button text.  It's also originally in Arial MT Bold.  On my desktop it appears fine but on my 2 laptops it appears to be in Times New Roman.  This is more of an issue because I have these buttons underlined.  When viewing in my laptops, these underlines appear to be too long.  If I shorten it, it'll probably appear to be too short when I view on my desktop.
How can I get the font to be one consistent font for all computers?
Note, this is the only font this is happening with - I have another unusual font, Miama, which many computers don't come with but it still displays on all my computers.

Thanks for your replies.  It worked.

  • Preview Update Bug? (+ iBooks 2 textbook font options)

    Two related questions:
    1) Is anyone else getting a situation where after you preview your book several times (10 or more in a session), if you change the master chapter or section layout, at some point the previewed text gets really small? I am trying 14-18 pt font sizes in the body text and when previewed on the iPad (2 or 3) it looks closer to 10pt. I have tried clearing the previewed book off my iPads, disconnecting and re-connecting, changing the fonts again, saving and then previewing but I can't get the body text to look anything close to the size I've created.
    2) ...which leads me to: I don't see any options in iBooks 2 for users of iBA books to change the font size. Is this what everyone else sees or do you have font sizing options like in regular (ePub) iBooks?
My understanding is we're creating "fixed font" layouts with this app so whatever we preview it at and then publish it, that's what the reader will see (and without option of changing the font size). Is this correct?
Thanks in advance for any insights.

Sorry, I haven't experienced your other problem myself. I would try
    deleting your book from iBooks
killing ibooks and restarting it, before and after deletion of your book
exporting to .iBook and loading the book via iTunes instead of preview
There are definitely some caching issues with preview that I've noticed previously. While I was working on my book, I'd quite often go through new material on my iPad and using the Notes feature to mark it up with corrections, then later transferring the corrections back to the source document.
When previewing the new version, the notes would disappear but then later reappear, often attached to a slightly different part of the text. Sometimes, I'd suddenly see a note that I had attached two or three revisions ago. It seems that deleting a book or updating it via preview doesn't completely clean out everything that was there before, so I would work on that angle with your problem.
    Michi.

Even if he did find fonts that are similar, each of the platforms use different DPI settings, so it's impossible to get them to display exactly the same.

  • Iweb messing up the layout

Dear all, iweb is messing up my website layout.
here is the page which is driving me mad:
    http://www.graphtec-italia.it/Graphtec-Italia/CAMEO.html
As you can see, all goes fine in the first paragraphs, then after the first box (the one named "Carta e cartoncino") all goes wrong, and iweb messes up with fonts, layout, alignment
Needless to say that in the page I designed everything is neatly aligned.
I tried the local publishing already, and the output is the same as online.
For your reference, the smaller pictures have been pasted into textboxes, with text running around.
    Does anybody have a clue?

I found the source of the problem:
apparently iweb didn't like having the pictures together with text into textboxes.
If I edit everything keeping pictures on the background, everything goes well, altough the final output is not as neat
    http://www.graphtec-italia.it/Graphtec-Italia/Silhouette_CAMEO.html
I still need to work on spacing and alignment, but at least it now doesn't show pictures and text randomly scattered around.

  • Any way to set font properties of entire VI front panel

I have some code. Lots of UI front panels. Many controls do not have consistent font sizes. Is there any way to fix this quickly without going to each control and setting manually? Thanks in advance.
    PaulG.
"I enjoy talking to you. Your mind appeals to me. It resembles my own mind except that you happen to be insane." -- George Orwell

On a single VI you can simply select all the controls and change the font using the dropdown menu - this will change the font for all selected items.
If you're trying to do this for multiple VIs then you'd have to resort to using the VI server. You can get a reference to the VI's front panel and then iterate over all the controls/indicators. Properties are available to set the font for captions and labels and the control text, if it has any (like numeric controls). Basically, 2 for-loop. One loop for the VI references, and another for the control references.

  • Controlling subtemplate text format (left-center-right justification, font)

    Hello,
I have several sub templates that we are calling to display different text information and these sub templates are used in multiple format templates (that is the entire idea, right? <g>)
My problem is in some of my reports I need the text to be center aligned and in some of them I need the text to be left justified, etc...
I also would like to display the text in different sized fonts as well.
How can I control my formatting from the driving format template instead of having it inherit the left/center/right justification that is present in my sub templates???
Thanks in advance for your feedback,
    Scott

Yes, that is exactly what I think I need to do (override the formatting with commands in the main template).
I don't know if the possibilities will get that large in my case because for each main format template the formatting will remain constant.
So I may call a subtemplate from several main format templates but in each main template I will just need to set the alignment and font-size (we use a consistent font type). Perhaps once in awhile I may need to bold something, but that should be about it.
Please, how is this done exactly? Can you point me toward the XSL command(s) to accomplish this? Or is there something in the plug in I am missing that can accomplish this?
We have over a dozen reports waiting for this one last tweak now and I am working with the below fo block and in this example it is coming across from the subtemplate LEFT justified (because that is how it is stored in the subtemplate) and we need it to be CENTER justified.
