Consistent issues with wifi in one particular location

I consistently have a problem with connectivity in a coffee shop with wireless internet.  It is a free wifi spot and works about 80% of the time.  However, sometimes I simply cannot connect.  I will reset the PRAM, change my network settings (e.g. add a network location, change the DNS settings to 8.8.8.8, turn off the wifi, etc), and delete my system config folder.  Sometimes it comes back and other times it just hangs out.  At one point I found a page explaining how to delete certain files through Terminal, but I cannot locate that again.  The issues I face often happen if I have gone from one wireless setting (work, school, home) and then into the coffee shop without turning the computer fully off - going into sleep mode.  Any thoughts.
System Information:
Processor 2.4 GHZ Intel Core 2 Duo
Memory 4 GB 667 MHZ DDR2 SDRAM
Graphics NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT 256 MB
Software OS X 10.8.1 (Mountain Lion)

I've run across several sites that use a captive portal to login their network, rather than WEP/WPA.
These networks use a protocol that allows your computer to discover DNS service automatically on the network without manually typing the address. This is why you are not provided with a DNS server address for their network.
If you specify a DNS address, your laptop cannot find the DND of the wireless router.
The simple fix is to add a new location and leave the DNS Servers field blank. That should allow your machine to find the router.
Good luck.

  • Macbook Pro Retina issues with Wifi Speeds

I have one of the new Macbook Pro 15" Retina models and have been having issues with Wifi Speeds.  Apple has replaced the computer but have the same issue with the new one.  When doing a side-by-side comparison with older Macbook Pros and PC's I'm seeing around a 10 megabytes per second difference.  Is anyone else experiencing the same issue?

So an update on what I've found.  After testing two different MBP Retna's basically hourly for 4 weeks I found a few interesting things, but ultimately resolved my issue.  The first thing I found consistently between both MBP Retina's both on my network and in the Apple store on their network was the first thunderbolt port closes to the screen is slower than if you try to use the LAN cable adapter on the second port. I saw about 10 GBps between the two ports.  The second thing i found was these new MBP Retina's aren't really compatible with older Apple networking technology. I have a single band Airport Express and a single band Time Capsule.  Using either router they only worked on the 2.4 5Ghz setting and even with that the speeds constantly fluxuated. Most times I got between 2 - 10 GBps.  After hours of troubleshooting it was recommended to update either my Time Capsule or Airport Express to one of the newer dual bands, which I did.  After purchasing and setting up a new dual band Airport Express and spliting the networks to have one band constantly on the 2.4 5Ghz setting and the other set to automatic both with differing network id's this solved my problem.  I now consistently see download speeds of around 35GBps and upload around 6GBps.  So connecting the dots and drawing logical conclusion, these new MBP Retinas are really only compatible with newer dual band Time Capsules or Airports.  Even though my single band was also set to 2.4 5Ghz, the same as the dedicated network used now on my dual band Airport Express, this MBP Retina had issues maintaining WiFi speeds.

  • Issues with WiFi connection to Deskjet 3545

    Hi,
I have number of issues with WiFi connection to my new Deskjet 3545 AIO:
    1. Printer is not able to get IP address automatically from home WiFi router (all other devices get IP with no problem). Using WPS allow printer to register in network but after switching off, WPS setting is not stored, so I have to do it again. This I was able to solve with manual entering of IP address, netwrok mask, DNS and gateway address.
    2. Official HP software installed from HP site was able to find printer for 3dattempt, and it started to work. But after a while, "HP utility" program loose connection to printer,  so I can not see any parameters, and I get "can not find printerä message when start to to print. After a some time (minutes to hours), whithout any action from my side, connection to printer seems to be restored, so I can see printer parameters in "HP utility" and printing is started.
    3.  Official HP software installed from HP site on PC (Windows 7) is not able to find printer on WiFi at all, works only with USB.
All this is disaponinting and unexpected, as my office HP LaserJet Pro 400 Color works perfect.

Tips for troubleshooting wireless connection issues
The following tips can help you troubleshoot and avoid wireless connectivity issues. You can try these tips separately or in combination to get a successful wireless signal.
Move the printer and the computer closer to the router, but no closer than 6 ft (1.8 m). Wireless signals can be weaker at greater distances between the printer and the router.
If you are experiencing an intermittent wireless connection, try restarting your router. Consult your router manufacturer, Internet service provider, or network administrator for instructions on how to restart the router.
Remove any metal objects between the printer, the computer, and the router. Objects such as refrigerators, microwaves, or metal bookcases can interfere with wireless transmission.
Move any device that emits radio signals, such as microwaves and cordless telephones, farther away from the printer. Such devices can interfere with wireless signals.

  • Issues with Oracle in a new location.

    Hello -
I recently had to change the computer name of a Windows 2003 SP2 test server. Among other software installed was Oracle 10g r2. There were issues with Oracle in its new location where it was trying to reference the old computer name.
I assumed that all I would have to do to correct the issue was to search all of Oracle’s .ORA files and replace the old server name with the new one. (Plus, of course, changing the Windows Host file entry).
But I’m finding that Oracle on Windows apparently has many other references to the original computer name. For example, there are subdirectories in the Oracle Home directory tree structure where the directories themselves contain the old computer name. (I’ve attached a screenshot of a file search off the Oracle directory tree for “BRI2KSRV” which is the test server’s old name. “Bri2ksrv.jax.fnfis.com” was the server’s old fully qualified name. ORCL is/was the default instance name).
For example, these directories were found:
    ..\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1\bri2ksrv.jax.fnfis.com_orcl
    ..\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1\log\bri2ksrv
    ..\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1\oc4j\j2ee\OC4J_DBConsole_bri2ksrv.jax.fnfis.com_orcl
What are the recommended steps when changing the Windows computer name (and thus the fully qualified network references) on a Windows 2003 Server which has a functioning Oracle 10g R2 instance?
    Thanks!

These directory you mentioned are EM control directory. You need to reconfigure your EM with new server name.
If you are using server name instead of IP address in listener.ora and tnsnames.ora you need to change these as well.

  • Recently started having issues with WiFi

    Hello everyone,
Recently I started having serious issues with Wifi. I fixed it kind of by turning off iTunes iCloud backup, but generally the signal is low. As an iOS 5 tester in the Apple Developer program, I tested it for months on my iPod without any problems. When I got my 4S, I never had a problem with it until just a few days ago.
A friend of mine said she was also having the same problem. She claimed she turned off iCloud backup as I did, turn off both WiFi on her Mac and on her phone and reboot both. I did this. Then I turned them back on. She also suggested I forget the network and re-enter the security key. That done, it connected and had a stronger signal. After a while though, it continues to drop peareoticly. I notice that it stay's connected a lot longer now. Another friend also suggested I turn off bluetooth, although that didn't really help much. What seems to fix it tempararly is iCloud backups have to go off.
The Mac is still working great. No stupid connection errors and or dropping. I'd be curious to see if I would be having this problem with my iPod Touch. Probably not.
Anyone find any deffinate solutions to this?
    Thanks.

Thanks for the reply. What do you mean "2.4 GHz WiFi reliability is a hit or miss"?
Warranty is over so no problem there.
I see a lot of 7260 cards, is there one in specific I need? Example:
    http://goo.gl/PKcRIU
    http://goo.gl/ooaUEw
N would actually be fine, don't really need AC, recently upgraded my router and don't feel compelled to change...the price difference is small, and I'm all for future-proofing, but, I just need the thing to WORK.
    Thanks again.

  • A SERIOUS issue with WIFI in Pavilion 15-p002nk

Hi  , Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome.Thank you for the very detailed information. I have looked into your issue about your  HP Pavilion 15-p002nk Notebook and issues with the Wireless disconnecting. Here is a link to the troubleshooting the Wireless connection, if you need it.
If this continues I would change the Channel on the router. Routers are capable of communicating to your Notebook on several different channels. If your neighbours Wi-Fi is  on the same channel, your network speeds might have issues. Some say this helps fix this problem Microsoft Fix it.   Here is a link to help as well. Hope this is helpful. Thanks.

Hi all.. Since the time i bought my new PC laptop "HP Pavilion 15 Notebook PC, Number: 2S23EA#BH4" , I've an issue with Wifi Connection; it's discconecting by itself sometime without any reason, then, it reconnect again like nothing happend because the "Connect automatically " option on Windows 8.1 is checked. Although, sometimes when it disconnect I have to reconnect by myself, after many troubles like  I have to restart the computer, or activating the Airlplane mode, disabling the Wifi cards and enable it again..  The strange behaviours of the Wifi connection is that is sometimes show me that the Wifi's stengh is full, all 5 bars, while it should be just like 2 bars or 3 at maximum, because where I'm connecting is a bit far from the router. but this just for few seconds before disconnecting, in addition, sometimes the Wifi card disable itself and re-enable at the moment and reconnect again. Moreover, once upon time when it disconnect, it dosen't detect my router or any other Wifi network around me. while there's more than 6 Wifi's available where i am living. Generally, this issue is not excessive, but those last days, it is being immoderate. i tried to look for some solution, but none of those proposed solution worked for me. I wish that i can find some resolution of this annoyning problem. advance Thank for everyone.

  • Macbook Pro w/ Retina Display Issues with Wifi with Bluetooth.

I have a Macbook Pro with Retina Display, 2.3 Ghz model.  I've noticed that while on wifi, when I use a bluetooth mouse or even turn on bluetooth on my computer, the wifi performance severely decreases for a short period of time.  While using a bluetooth mouse the wifi intermittently fails and I need to shut off wifi and turn it back on to correct the issue.
Using the ping utility on terminal I have confirmed this in that when bluetooth is turned on, a large number of packets are lost for about ten seconds.
Has anyone else been experiencing this problem and is this an issue I can correct myself or should I contact Apple?
    Thanks

I have the same issue with my macbook pro with retina display. I have 2 macbook pros. I never would of thought that a bluetooth signal was interfering with both of them. I had a gateway wireless router that only had 2.4 Ghz 802.11 b/g, which is the same frequency of bluetooth. I know that bluetooth bounces from channel to channel, whereas wifi sticks to one constant channel (normally). I have reinstalled my mac twice, thinking that somehow my drivers were corrupted. This was false becuase everytime I reinstalled it did the same thing, Act fine for 5-10 minutes and randomly the internet connection would freeze up all together for 10-20 seconds. I have also tried contacting apple multiple times and they tried to do a smc and pram reset. They also tried to get rid of my chaches in my computer. It all seemed to be fine, and then when I got off the phone it would act us once more.
I have read numerous articles to try and fix the situation; one of them was to try change the location of the network and change the MTU size. No help. I called At&T (my internet provider) and got a new router and that did work for a while. But eventually acted up again. The router was still 2.4 GHz 802.11 b/g. I read this article and found out that my Magic Mouse might be causing the issue. Turns out to be true. Everytime I would browser the internet or browse the itunes store and it would freeze, i would immediatly turn the bluetooth off and what do you know, it works!!! This is a huge dissapointment in apple however. It seems to be only a macbook pro w/ retina display issue. My other macbook pro only acts up when i'm using my newer one (something is wrong with the bluetooth and wifi in the retina for the 2.4 ghz frequencies.
I just got a Airport express, and have not experienced this issue what so ever. This is due to the fact that it is a dual band wireless router. It supports 2.4Ghz and 5 Ghz both at 802.11 a/b/g/n which is a major improvement compared to what I had. I use the 5Ghz frequency and have no issues still.
This is still an issue however because if I want to go out and use anothers persons wifi, I can't control their frequency. So I will still have this issue.

  • IPhone 6/iOS 8 email issues with wifi connection

    Hi
I have just upgraded from an iPhone 4 (iOS 7) to an iPhone 6 (iOS 8) and am having an issue with my pop email account. I used my iPhone 4 backup to set up new iPhone, so all the settings were as they were in my old phone. I have two email accounts, one is an IMAP account and the other is a POP account (which is my main email), I have no problems connecting to the server and downloading emails when connected via 4G (its super fast), but when I am connected via wifi, the POP account takes ages to connect to the server and check for emails (stuck on checking for email). I can speed up the process by closing mail app completely and reopening, then it checks and downloads really quickly (IMAP account has no problems), but this is frankly a pain.
I have spent ages on the phone with Apple support, who have got me to delete my POP email account twice, reset network settings, reset the phone using on/off button and home button, all to no avail. They are intent on telling me it's my email service providers fault, but as I pointed out there is no issue on 4G and my old iPhone (using iOS 7) on wifi has no issues, so can't be email provider. I have also tried using Apple's wifi in store to rule out router issue and the problem happened there too.
Have now run out of suggestions and options. I'm not sure if it's the phone itself, either a hardware or software issue (Apple support think not). Someone told me that it could be the wifi on my phone blocking the connection to the server. I have an appointment booked at the genius brand they have suggested wiping the phone and setting up as a new phone to see if the problem occurs, but this seems a bit drastic and I would lose all messages etc. Any help would be appreciated.

I have solved the issue! I tried my pop account on other devices with iOS 8 and the same thing happened, so I deduced that the issue is a glitch in iOS 8 with wifi and pop accounts. I managed to get hold of the IMAP settings for my email provider and all seems to be well. Happy days!

  • Iphone 4S issues with wifi connection related to 8.2?

I haven't had issues with this before and have had my phone for 4 months.  Suddenly this morning I was alerted I am almost at my data limit and I still have 14 days to go!  I noticed my phone wasn't connected to my home wifi!  I tried to connect several times and it told me the password was wrong.  I know it was right so I restarted my phone, router, and modem.  I was able to connect but had to leave for work.  When I got to work, I connected to the wifi as well in an attempt to not go over my data.  My phone connects, then I look at it a while later, and it says 3G again.  I googled the issue and found a lot of people talking about the same problem but it all seems to be from last year.  Anyone else having this problem suddenly?  I have Sprint.

    Hello Elita One,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
To start troubleshooting this issue where your iPhone is dropping different Wi-Fi networks after being connected, I'd like you to please reset your network settings by following the directions outlined below.
Reset your Network Settings. Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This also resets Wi-Fi networks and passwords, cellular settings, and VPN and APN settings that you’ve used before.

  • Problem with WiFi on one netbook but not the other

I have a curious problem in that I am able to connect and browse via the wireless network on one netbook using the home hub no problem, but another netbook connects the wireless network but does not allow me to browse. Curiously it works no problem on ethernet. The netbook with the problem is running Windows 7 Home Pro with Microsoft Essentials as the AV protection. The netbook without the problem is running Windows XP Home Pro with AVG.
I have tried all sorts from rolling back Windows updates, reinstalling the wireless device drivers, refreshing/flushing dns and various command prompts but nothing seems to work.
I took the netbook away and tried connecting to another wireless network and it worked straight away no problem which leads me to believe it is a dns issue with the BT connection on my netbook.
I have enclosed the IPCONFIG for both the wireless and ethernet connection in case anyone can spot anything and make suggestions...

Wireless connections are classed as public by default, so file sharing and network discovery is disabled.
You have to change your wireless connection so that it is in the Private network classification.
I cannot remember how to do this, as its a while since I played around with a Win 7 or Vista laptop.
Any settings only affect the actual wireless connection you change, so if you access public wifi, then that will be classed as a public network, and file sharing will be disabled.
Ethernet connections are usually assumed private.
I am sure a Google search will tell you more, if its not in Windows help.

  • Issues with WIFI-connection in the Spotify app

I have a very annoying problem with my Nokia 5800 XM and the Spotify-app. I updated the app to v. 0.4.3.9 yesterday and it required that I uninstalled the old version first, i.e deleting all my cached tracks. Now today when I'm going to resync (on WLAN, since it's about 500 tracks) it just won't connect. I choose the correct WLAN from the list, but the app continues being blue (not green) and then the list pops up again. I read another discussion about almost the same thing a moment ago, so I tried to go to the menu and check the WLAN connection from its menu. So I did that, and it says my WLAN has full signal strength (I'm right next to the router) but then it loses the connection and asks me again which network I want to use. I have not had any issues with WLAN in any other app, and I have synced tracks with Spotify on my WLAN before, so I have no idea where the problem lies. Maybe something with the update and my WLAN? I don't know...
About the attachments: The list that shows several times and then the WLAN list where I'm connected to my network and it has full strength. "Marsvinsfarmen" is my network.
I'm thankful for answer, I use Spotify every day!

Okay everyone! I struggled with this problem for a long time, and I was just about to send a complaint to Spotify when it worked for me! See, I did a little different than before; this is the list I was going to file:
"1. I open Spotify from the application menu.
    2. I choose "Online" mode.
    3. My phone asks me how I want to connect to the Internet.
    4. I pick "Easy WiFi".
    5. I choose my WiFi network from the list.
    6. Application seems to be signing me in.
    7. My phone asks me again how I want to connect to the Internet.
    8. I repeat the procedure. Spotify can't connect with WiFi.
-I have tried to connect using other WiFi networks, didn't work.
-Before I updated last time I could connect without problem.
     -I can connect using 3G.
-I can connect using WiFi in other applications than Spotify, for example Opera Mobile and the native browser.
-I have reinstalled the application without difference."
However, I did it a little different, which made it work: instead of choosing "Easy WiFi", I choose my network directly from the list: see attachment. I never thought of that I could do so and I can't remember I did that before the update either. I have now synced my tracks and the app seems to be a little buggy, I still hope for an update, though it now works at least. Sometimes it crashes.
Please, tell me about if this worked for you and if you have other, better solutions. This isn't good enough, I still seek a better way.

Try resetting your network settings, go to settings>general>reset then tap reset network settings, then restart your iPhone by holding down the on/off and the home buttons until you see the Apple logo.
If you are still having problems try restarting your router.

  • Lenovo Flex2 15: NetworkManager issue with WiFi in Gnome3 & battery

I've installed Arch on a Lenovo Flex2 15 and most of the things are working nicely. However 1 issue with NetworkManager is driving me nuts.
I have the following system in use:

Whenever I connect to a wireless network with the network applet in the top right of the screen, it keeps "connecting" even though it has already connected. This does not happen when I disable WiFi and use the cable. The connected cable icon is show properly.

    I have disabled netctl
    $ sudo systemctl disable netctl
How can I make the applet show that the connection has been succesfully established?
Bonus question is that on Windows the laptop can run for hours, but in Arch it's drained considerably faster. I also have a Dell XPS L502x and since Linux was installed the battery died pretty quickly because it drained so fast and we had to charge it constantly. That laptop is left with a 15 minute charge at 100%. The new Lenovo somehow takes 3 hours to charge from 0 to 100% and drains in about the same time. The same applet in the top right also keeps saying "Estimating...". I have installed PowerTOP and ran a diagnostics. Is it save enough to apply everything suggested?

The Red cross usually appears when the battery has failed.
If you already tried the hard reset and the drivers update, then there doesn't seem to be much that you can do.
Get it repaired from Lenovo while you are still in warranty, that would be my suggestion.

  • One particular Po document type with reference to one particular PR documen

    Dear all
I want to create one PO for a particular document type only with reference to one PR, that to after release of PR, how can i do it.

    Hi
Goto, OLME ---> PO ---> Define Document types -
    > Choose your PO Doc.Type...> there in Linking PR and PO Doc.Type....allow your PR doc.Type only.....
    Also in OLME -
    > PR -
    > Define Document types -
    > Choose your PR Doc.Type...>There also you maintain this PR Doc.type only as ref. to your PO doc. type....
Then Configure Release Statergy in such that All your new PR Doc. type PRs should gone thro the Release Statergy.....(use field CEKKO-BSART)
    Reward if useful
