Consistent use of ProRes422LT
I have had no issues using ProRes 422 throughout FCP (7.0.3) wherever presets are required. I now want to use ProRes422LT but I still end up with ProRes422 in Item>properties on the timeline. If I say "yes" or "no" to "Change sequence settings to match clip settings?", the only difference is having to render. I still have ProRes422 format in the item properties.
The tape footage is 1080i60 (Sony Z1U). Content is about 2 hours, mostly speaking, standing still. Goal is to go through Compressor and on to SD DVD, best settings for the final l length.
Here's the current setup: Sequence preset is Apple proRes422LT (1440x1080 60i 48kHZ) and capture preset is HDV Apple ProRes422. (There is no ProRes422LT version available for selection).
Sequence settings>QT compressor>Apple ProRes422LT. Render control>Codec>same as sequence codec.
So, I guess the question is how to get ProRes422LT on the timeline item properties? I have not done an Easy Setup for sometime, not wanting to mess more than I have to, but what selections would I use for "format" and "use" in the Easy Setup if I were to do a new Easy Setup? (I do not recall what I did for the Easy Setup a long time ago but maybe that's what needs fixing). Not being too familiar with all the intricacies of codecs, I'm just assuming that ProRes422 LT would be sufficient to do the job as much of the literature and comments stress using ProRes422LT for a number of reasons.
Hopefully, you haven't turned on the grill yet for this weekend. I'll leave mine off waiting for your help. And if you need more info, let me know. Thanks in advance.

My previous MacBook Air running an older operating system synced up just fine with these same projectors using the same minidisplay to vga adapter. My new computer has Airplay on it, and Airplay shows up on my menu bar on the new laptop where the displays icon used to appear. I cannot get the displays icon to display (even when I turn Airplay mirroring off). It used to show up on the menu bar and if I had projector issues I hit "detect displays" and it resolved. None of that appears to be available with the new operating system and Airplay on. I am not sure why.

Page background brightness not consistent using image fill
And I can't seem to figure out how to adjust it. Can anybody help? I've tried copying from the page itself, adjusting the brightness to match and re-importing to iweb, but that doesn't work either.
Thanks old toad! It's www.jeffreyjanger.com You'll see that the background on the home page is lighter than the background on all the other pages (which are consistent). I'd like them all to have the same brightness of the home page.
While we're at it, there's also something funky going on when the theme and background first load. I know my ISP is very fast and I can't imagine that they're such big files that they don't load faster.

Iphoto does not consistently use filename as title
I am importing photos from a Finder folder into iphoto (09). For some photos, the program automatically uses the file name as title; for other photos it does not assign any title. I can't make out any pattern. Since I gave the files names that have meaning, it would be very helpful if I could see them in iphoto. (If I look at the Extended Photo Info, the file name can be seen, but it does not show up in the regular view as titles.) Can anyone help? Thanks!
Have you looked at the files with other programs, for example Preview?
If you show the Inspector in Preview (Tools > Show Inspector) and open the IPTC and Exif tab, you can see the metadata tags of the photos. Do the image files in question have different IPTC or Exif tags set? Some cameras write empty captions to the photos, that might be read by iPhoto as empty titles. -
Is it ok to consistently use Iphone 5s hotspot?
My Wifi is down for the moment and im wondering if i can use my Iphone 5s USB hot spot for the time being. But currently im worried that this will effect my Iphones battery life. Can someone confirm that this will/ will not damage my iphone in any way? I have unlimited data so the usage factor is no problem.

How to Use a Verizon Global Ready Phone Abroad
So your planning a trip to Cancun Mexico and want internet/cell service with out paying Roaming fees to your U.S service provider here is what you need to know to have access to Facebook, Vonage, Google maps, email and other apps while abroad.
I will cover two bases one for your Global ready/Unlocked phone and the other for a personal Hotspot in your room or wherever your laptop will be this is only If you plain to purchase or have semi-free WiFi service from the Hotel.First I will cover your smartphone:
The phone I used and test this with was mostly on my Razr Maxx from Motorola from the Verizon network. This can also worked with a Iphone 4S (You need to call Verizon First before traveling) please check out this thread to use your iPhone Unlocking Iphone for International Travel
Note: you only have to do this once per-iPhone after that it is global ready as long as you own it.
For a Android phone they are Global ready phones no need to call Verizon it is already ready. Popular Android phones that are Global ready ie. Razr, Razr Maxx,plus both HD versions also, The Samsung GS3 and GS4 are Global ready.
For those who don't know, All Verizon 4G phones carry a sim card inside. They can be replace with a non-U.S carrier sim.(Make sure you insert the sim in the right way or it will not work.) If you try to use a none Verizon sim in the U.S it will be blocked by The Verizon network.
Verizon runs off of both GSM and Cdma networks but while aboard you have a option to change these features.
By pressing the menu button click System Setting> More / Wireless & Networks>Mobile Networks>Network Mode.
Step 1.
Most important leave your phone in airplane mode once you reach your destination you can still use WiFi while your phone is in this mode. While in Mexico or any country aboard you will need a local sim from any carrier that is GSM. A prepaid sim works great, some/most company's will make you pay a fee for the sim and they will not provide any help with setting your phone up to there services.
Here are a two reasons why. #1 You did not buy it from them. #2 They really don't know your Verizon, AT&T and T-mobile phone setup, Yes it is different then the same phones they sell on their own network. So buying a prepaid sim card is your best option then paying roaming fees to your U.S carrier.
After you have you sim you purchase the Data amount you think you will need you I got 1GB which was way more then enough for 5 days. I was consistently using my phone checking in on Foursquare etc.. you will also receive a local phone number too. I used a telcel sim card In Cancun The Telcel company is located in the Hotel Zone # 2 Blvd Kukulcan Km 12.5 77500 Cancún, Quintana Roo, Mexico.
Telcel is the best for 4g and internet service.

(You need to know their APN settings for data service I will cover this below. I used The Vonage app to Talk to friends and family in the U.S for free they were able to call and text me while using the Vonage app on their smart phone and toll free numbers work with Vonage but not with the Mexico number.(I will cover how to set up Vonage before your travel below). There are other cheaper company's but none with the same coverage as Telcel. It worked everywhere compared to the company below.
http://www.movistar.com.mx/Movistar: The underdog. Cheaper per-month. It is what The other phone used.I wanted to test both networks. The rate to call the USA from Mexico was only 2 pesos per minute (15 cents) but there are other options to call the U.S for free as stated above. Coverage is not great at all, but it wasn't to terrible either. It was really spotty while on the beach unlike Telcel. Traveling out of Cancun on a excursions there was next to none cellular service at all. A lot of the small towns didn't have Movistar coverage. You will end up roaming on a different network it will roam on the Telcel network instead yeah that's right I said Telcel.
Prices
Everyone wants to use their Android phone or iPhone for checking emails, translating Spanish and occasionally consulting Google Maps while lost. It is easy to setup data on your phone once you have a SIM card and money on the account. If you don't explicitly buy data you can still use data on your device, but it will be taken out of your account balance at a very expensive rate. The best thing to do is to sign up for a package deal. Movistar is $200 pesos ($15) for 1GB which expires in 1 month. If your stay is not long Telcel offers the same 1GB data service for 10 days.
To sign up for one of these packages after you have added money to your Movistar account you send a text message to a special number and money is automatically taken from your account balance to pay for your data package. For example, to sign up for 1GB over 30 days, a $200 peso plan, you send a text message to 100 that says "30 dias". $200 pesos will be removed from your Movistar account and you'll have a gig of data to use.
Telcel works in a different way but you don't not need to text any special number( if your purchase from their main Store) after you add money to your account. it is automatically applied only when you use any OXXO convenience store to refill your mobile service then you will need to text a special number which will be provided . I prefer going to Telcel company just in case of a language barrier.

Your sim card good and can be reused up too 1 year after money runs out or time expires.

Lets get your internet service running :
After you have your sim and paid for data you need add the APN setting to your phone. I did have to add the APN to my Razr Maxx for 4G/3G coverage, As Same for the iPhone 4S to acquire the 3G data service. Insert your Telcel sim go to the one of the link below, click your phone software link. its free no need to pay a company which will take you minutes to do. If your phone is running any Android you click the android manual setup for Iphone the Iphone manual setup. Here is Telcel APN setting for Cancun, Mexico . Here is Movistar APN settings
Note: If you have a fully unlocked smartphone that is not locked to any specific carrier in the United States, Canada or any other country you may not have to enter the APN setting manually.
How to Call and Text to the U.S and Receive Calls and Text from the U.S while abroad at no Charge.
I have used Vonage for a while to me its the best. I have used on trips to Europe and it has always work without any problems.
When setting up Vonage you must do it before your trip abroad because it will asked for your current U.S number for authorization and activation this number will not change once you use a foreign sim since your account is linked to your U.S number not your carrier.
You can add money to your Vonage account if you are planing on calling land lines or a smartphone with out the Vonage app attached to that smartphone number. (I notice a few times I used Vonage from Mexico to call a mobile phone that did not have Vonage, I was able to call them for free, which was a bonus). You can Call, send SMS and MMS threw Vonage at no additional charge to any smartphone with the Vonage app.
There are other apps out there that do work the same way as Vonage. Viber, Call and Text any Viber user for free. Whatsapp a texting app only no calling is available (yet).
These apps will use the data service you have purchase while abroad or if you have WiFi enable on your phone if WiFi is available they will use the WiFi Data instead of Cellular Data. Almost every Hotel in Cancun makes you pay for WiFi. If you are at a hotel that offers free WiFi you are in luck but the service may be spotty in some areas in your hotel.
Note to reader: The Hotspot for Verizon Wireless did not work it will look for Verizon servers. I will update this article when I find a Hotspot for Telcel. I also know The Foxfi app did not work either even the paid version.

Our hotel the Grand Oasis Cancun provided internet for only 36 hours and you could only use it on one device which comes to my next option as using your Laptop as a Personal Router to broadcast WiFi to any devices near your computer. Our room was on the Second level of the Pyramid at Grand Oasis and I was able to access it while at the VIP lounge below our room. Before our supposedly free internet service ended.
I attempted using the hotel next door since I was getting a good signal from the Omni Hotel. They offered complimentary 24hr internet access using your browser as a way to track your use. Once you find the signal of the Omni it will open your browser I used Google Chrome, after it opens you go threw a few simple steps and your ready.
I learned that after the 24 hours are up all you have to do is disconnect from their network, just run Ccleaner(free program) then find the Signal of the hotel and you will be given another 24 hours. What Ccleaner(<--download there) does is clears anything attached to your browser ie cookies temp files etc. it cleans your browser history giving you a way of not paying for the hotel fee of internet and giving you free WiFi. this is only if you are next to the Omni hotel :).
What you need to download to turn your computer into a hotspot need to say is this little easy to use program Virtual Router. Once it has download test at your home to make sure it works with you devices. This will work with Tablets, Phones and other computers that cant find the Omni WiFi signal. Your welcome. To use it, is simple. Open program>make a password>select WiFi and start VR. -
Text Index works fine consistently with Table, but not on underlying View

works fine on a Table, but when running query on View it gives sometimes (not consistently)

provide access to this Table using View only. That is why we would like to get this query working consistently

AuroThis is a known issue with CTXCAT indexes. Sometimes the optimizer will "drive" the query off another index, and request results from the CTXCAT index on a row-by-row basis ("does the row with rowid NNNN satisfy this CATSEARCH condition?"). That's known as a functional lookup, and is not supported by the CTXCAT indextype.
The only solution is to try to persuade the optimizer to use a different plan which does not use a functional lookup. This can be achieved by the use of hints, or sometimes by collecting or deleting statistics on the table. -
I have an iphone 4S on ios 7.0.3 and am attempting to use airplay with an airplay enabled AV receiver (Pioneer VSX-53). I also recently upgraded my wireless router and the roouter is working fine with the five elements on the network. Prior to the upgrade to 7.0.3 and the router upgrade the airplay feature working fine and i was able to consistently use airplay to stream music th the AV receiver. After the upgrades the airplay icon no longer appears on my iphone or on my macbook running itunes. Any suggestion on how to trouble shoot the missing airplay icon is much appreciated.

You're running an old version of Safari. Before troubleshooting, try updating it to the latest version: 6.0. You can do this by clicking the Apple logo in the top left, then clicking Software update.
You can also update to the latest version of OS X, 10.8 Mountain Lion, from the Mac App Store for $19.99, which will automatically install Safari 6 as well, but this isn't essential, only reccomended.

Best Practice to use a single root Application Module?
I was reading in another thread that it may be a good idea to have all application modules nested within a single root application module (AM) so that there is only 1 session maintained for the root AM, versus an individual session for each AM. Is this a best practice? If yes, should the root AM be a skeleton AM (minimal customer service methods), or, should you select the most heavily used AM and nest the other AM's underneath of it?
In my case, I currenlty have 2 AM's (and will have 3 AM's in the future) each representing a different set of use cases withn the application (i.e., one supports users searches / shopping cart-like functionality, and the second supports an enrollment process.) It could be the case that a user only accesses pages on the web site to do searches (first AM), or only to do enrollment (2nd AM), or, they may access pages of the site that access both AM's. Right now I have 2 separate AM's that are not nested. Should I nest the AM's and define a root AM?

The main physical effect of having 2 separate AMs is that they have their own transactions with the database, and presumably sit in the application module pool as their own instances consuming connections from the connection pool. Alternatively a single root AM with 2 nested AMs share a single transaction through the root AM; only the root AM controls the transaction in this scenario.
As such it's a question of do you need separate transactions or will one suffice?
How you group your EOs/VOs etc within the AMs is up to you, but usually falls into logical groups such as you have done. If a single transaction is fine, instead of creating multiple AMs, you could instead just create logical package structures instead. Neither method is right or wrong, they're just different ways of structuring your application.
When you create a nested AM structure, within your ViewController project in the Data Control Palette you'll actually see 3 data controls mapped to each AM. In addition expanding the root AM data control, you'll see the nested AMs again. Create a dummy project with a nested AM structure and you'll see what I mean.
If you base your page definitions on anything from the root AM and it's children in the Data Control Palette, this will work on the root AM's transaction.
If you base your page definitions on something from one of the other AM data controls that isn't inside the main root AM in the Data Control Palette, instead of using the root AM's transaction, the separate child AM will be treated as root AM and will have its own transaction.
The thing to care of when developing web pages is to consistently use the AM and it's nested AMs, or the child AMs directly with their separate transactions, otherwise it might cause a bit of a nightmare debugging situation later on when the same application is locking and blocking on the same records from 2 separate AM transactions.

I have 9" by 12" (230mm by 300mm) tablet and software that allows me to choose which parameters to modify.
The pen is pressure sensitive but not quite as flexible as the Wacom mouse which is easier to use since you don't have to pick it up all the time (moving from MIDI controller to pen is a bit of a pain).
I've found the accuracy of pressure pretty variable so you can't consistently use it for volume, for instance, but it's good enough to be able to do key switching using transform. It has 1024 pressure sentivity levels so it may just be my technique.

Open pdf in IE using #toolbar = 0 does not display read mode menu
I m trying to open up a pdf document using IE 9 and Adobe Reader XI and if I have the toolbar hidden the first time the document displays the read mode menu bar does not display. I have to refresh the browser to get the read mode menu to display.
How do I get the read mode menu bar to display every time?

Using Replace Pages in accessible PDF's
Hi - Brand new to this forum. Hoping someone can help... I have an existing tagged and accessible PDF - needed content update, so did that in Word, created a new tagged and accessible PDF, and used Replace pages to insert the new pages into the existing PDF. Acrobat Help says when you replace pages in a PDF, Acrobat adds the tags from the incoming pages to the end of the tag tree... and keeps the tags for the replaced pages. That didn't happen - the tags from the incoming pages are not there and, in fact, the tags that were in the existing PDF are not there anymore either - now it just says "Warning, empty page". Any ideas?

I guess my nomenclature may be presumptive. All I should have said is that the most appropriate method I have discovered for retaining tagging and all other accessibility functionality has been the Combine command. Replace Pages sometimes works and most of the time (lately) is doesn’t. My experience with Insert Pages has not been consistently successful either.
What you mean by a workflow I don’t fully understand. Do you mean an automated action? Unless you consistently use the same page numbers in every document, I don't know how you could automate it. Also, I have not been able to find specific process treatment about combining tagged PDFs. This has been a result of testing and experimentation.

Consistent naming with USB/PCI devices
I have an onboard audio device -- a Radeon HD 6500D -- which appears in aplay -l as two different audio cards -- the HDMI audio, and an analog audio. In addition, I have an external USB audio card I use for podcasts. So the three audio devices are:

Here's the problem: Every time I reboot, that list changes. Sometimes the USB card is 0, sometimes 1, sometimes 2. So any configurations that specify card/device like 0:0 or 2:0 stop working if the device order changes. This not only messes up the podcast software (idjc) but also anything that simply plays through the default audio -- since default may sometimes be 0:0, sometimes 0:1, etc. I worked around this by creating three different asound.conf files where it identifies "default" as any one of those three, or I can just keep rebooting until they're in my preferred order.
Is there any way I can force it to consistently use the same card number for the same device across reboots?There are (at least) two ways that are both covered in the wiki. You can either use device names rather than numbers (in .asoundrc), or create a modprobe .conf file to specify the order of loading.
I've used both methods, and they each worked well.

Solaris 9: Xsun process using over 47% of CPU
Anyone else having this problem?
The /usr/openwin/bin/Xsun process is consistently using over 47% of the CPU
on a Sun Fire V240 running Solaris 9. This system was just built last week
with all recommended patches. In the past 24 hours it has accumulated 1341:35
of execution time according to ps. It is now up to 1350:08 in the time it took me
to finish this message.I had a similar problem with my v240 with my XVR-100 frame buffer, and was told that there is an incident that is not closed in a security patch for this, and that the work around was as follows:

Can I use jstl1.0 uri with jstl 1.1.2 libraries
The application has several wars some with 2.3 and some with 2.4 web.xml
But all the apps consistently use the 1.1 uri ie., the one WITH "jsp" in it.
So the two part question is: does the web.xml declared specification have any effect on which taglib it picks up ?
and are the 1.1.2 tag libs compatible with both jstl 1.0 and jstl.1.1.2 uri s ?No..Ideally not.
Due to backward compatibility most of the Application Servers including WebLogic provides us an option to use older web.xml which uses DTDs as well...
But this is not a good practice ....to use Older DDs inside our application ..it has many loses So it is always better to convert those DDs according to the version of Server which we are using.
