Conso_type on groups dimension

Hi experts,
Do anybody knows what is the use of the porpety "Conso_type" of the Groups dimension for?
If i execute the "Legal Consolidation" package we get next error:
RUN_LOGIC:Elimination not found for consolidation type * in Group dimension. Failed

Hi Guys,
I had the same issue. In my case there were no business rules defined in consolidation model. Once I had created dummy business rule, the problem was gone.

According to your description, you get an empty Measure Group Columns list when defining relationship. Right?
Based on your screenshot, you may notice that Measure group table is empty, so definitely it can't show any column in the dropdown list. If there's columns in the measure group that are related to the dimension columns, at least it will show the fact
table for Measure group.
In this scenario, please check if the fact table for the Measure group is existing. Re-process the Measure group and try again. If the issue persists, please re-create that measure group.

Currency and Groups Dimensions in Legal Consolidation, BPC 7.5

Dear BPC Experts:
          I am using BPC 7.5 NW SP03, and building Legal Consolidation now. According to the SAP Library,http://help.sap.com/saphelp_bpc75_nw/helpdata/en/bpc_nw_index.htm, it says in 7.5, the currency and groups dimension are required and should hold currency members and consolidation members seperately. I have couple of questions about this design.
1. Are GROUPS and CURRENCY dimensions both included in Legal Consolidation Application at the same time?
2. How to move data in currency diemnsion into corresponding members in GROUPS dimension?
    For example: THe GROUPS member, CG1(its currency is USD). How to let data in currency USD move to CG1.
3. In Legal Consolidation data package, should I modify the prompt dimension from CURRENCY_DIM into GROUP_Dim?? cause 7.5 has CURRENCY dim in its package setting at default. However, the consolidation package is based on GROUP perspectives.
    Does anyone give me any idea in it? I really appreciate your help.

The group-type dimension is used for storing the group component of legal consolidation. The group-type dimension represents the relationship of entities for a given consolidation result. This group is consolidated in a single currency, so there is no need to have another dimension. As of Planning and Consolidation 7.5, you can continue to use the currency-type dimension for this purpose, or you can split it into a group-type dimension (type G) and use a pure currency-type dimension (type R) to allow reporting in multiple group currencies.
If at all I go by that will that be sufficient to have only Group Dimension and ignore RptCurrency field in BPC 7.5?
As of now I am having my Group Dimension looks like this.

Please advise as right now we are not able to have Currency Conversion Functioning properly. I mean when I executed FXTRANSLGF, I am able to my DM status as Successful but saying 0 Submitted   0 Success   0 Fail
I am unable to crack this. I tired playing Groups and RptCurrency but same result. Successful but no records. We have maintained all Exchange Rates corrctly.

Use of group dimension

Hi experts,
What is use of the "group dimension"?
Do you need group dimesion to define the percentages shares of the holding company into the investee units?
I've check the sap documentation and this dimension is not compulsory in the consolidation application so i understand you don´t need maintain the members of this dimension to enter the share percentages.

Finallly we find a solution attending to our experience. You must defione both dimension RPTCURRENCY only for currencies and LC, and GROUP only for scope groups and NON_GROUP value.
Data must be introdue in NON_GROUP member and LC, then in conversion program, system save data in NON_GROUP and group currency (for example EUR), and finally in consolidation program, system save data in G_01 (group scope) and EUR.

Reporting a Group in Multiple currencies / Currency - Group Dimension

Hi Experts,
I have a query about the Currency / Groups Dimension. I am working on BPC MS 7.0 SP 04 and am using a copy of the ApShell Database. This has Currency and Groups as a combined dimension.
For eg My Group is C_E1 and Entity corresponding to the group is E1. Thus Data of Consolidated Entity E1 is calculated at the Group C_E1.
Now my Question is whether i can view / convert the data of this Consolidated Entity E1 in any currencies other than the Group currency? Will this require my Groups and Currency dimension to be separate dimensions?
Kindly throw some light on the same and feel free to ask me any further inputs required.

no. the only way to do that is to duplicate the vcard for that contact and include it in the group twice. I know it's not convenient but that's the only way you can do it in Mail. .

Selecting Number of Groups for Group Dimension

Hello Folks,
We are having a peculiar situation here in selecting on how many Consolidation Groups we should maintain inside Group Dimension.
Client is expecting Financial Statements at 10 Holding Companies but want to do Consolidation only at highest Level.
Does this mean in my Entity Dimension I find 10 C_Entities but when it comes to Group I have only 1 Value for the Highest Holding Company.
Do you think what I am doing is right or you wish me to maintain 10 Consolidation Groups in Group Dimension for any reason.
We are going for Legal Matrix Consolidation by Company Code, Profit Centers here.
This is very urgent Please advise.

I would like to share a scenario with you all.
It is decided to use the 'US Elimination' function in BPC to eliminate the receivables/payables. There structure of the entity hierarchy is:
Entity -> groups->Segments; Entity E1 roll up to Group G1 and group G1 roll up to another higher level group and then to a segment. Also there will be technical entity 'T1' to capture elimination differences at each group level.
How do you set up the 'Group ' dimension members in this scenario? I mean the entity E1, group G1 and the technical entity T1.

Hi RJ,
I'm not sure if this is what you meant, but I don't think it is necessary to use a BPC Group-type dimension for this. You will need to set up your hierarchy correctly in the Entity-type dimension. You can also have a group dimension, but I think it is irrelevant for for US Elimination logic.
In your case, you would have both E1 and T1 roll up to G1. Since T1 is set as an elimination entity, it will capture all eliminations needed at the G1 level. For every G# node where you want to capture eliminations, you will need a single T# entity as a child of that node.
Not every G# node needs to have an elim entity as a child. If a G# node does not have an elimination entity as a child, then the US Elimination logic will look at the parent of G# and see if that node has an elim entity as a child, and so on. Once a node with an elim entity is found, the elimination will be recorded at that level.

I have some lack of understanding why is Groups dimension needed. Could somebody explain me that?
Particularly, I want to get answers for following questions:
Why do we need one Groups dimension member for each Consolidation group? How is it used?
Why should be defined a relationship between Groups members and Entity members?
When do we need to use Groups dimension in the Consolidation application as Currency type dimension? In which cases can we replace Groups dim with InputCurrency dim?

In a fiction scenario let's supose we have this Entity member belong with only one currency for all of then:
Entity
A is the holding
B is controlled by A
C is controlled by A
So, if I think correct, the structure on BPC will have companies to do the parent and receive the journals, like this:
ID       Parent1
A          CG1
B          CG2
C          CG2
CG1       -
CG2     CG1
Why we need to use the Groups to relating Entity in this case ?

I need to give users opportunity to view data for some product group/subgroup.
But In the web-interface of OBIEE I can see only "Plant location name" and "Product description".

Decode the values (Re-group Dimension Values) without ETL

Hello guys, i have a question which is partly triggered by me not wanting to modify the default ETLs.
I have values in a dimension table coming as:
Region A
Region B
Region C
Region D
Region E
However, i am hoping to re-org the hierarchy as below:
Region New A
Region New D
I know this can be done in ETL but is there any place else that this can be done? Possibly in the business layer? Is there a place in the business layer where we can decode the values and re-group them?
Essentially, there is a new org structure in our company where we are grouping (consolidating) old regions into new and renaming the values.

In the logical column in the BMM you have two options to write expression:
1. In general tab/use existing logical columns as the source
2. In data type tab/logical table source/edit/logical column and write expression using physical tables and columns
In both cases you can write your mapping expression whether it is a case statement or something else.

Hi,
You could do this at the RPD layer with a case statement on a logical column. However I wouldn't really suggest this as it means if the grouping ever changes you have to release a new RPD to get the change.
Why not build a custom ETL task which you can set to run after the vanilla ones which just takes these values, consolidates them as required (perhaps using a lookup table to find the mappings from old -> new) and then loads the new value into an extension column on the dimension or on the related dimension extension i.e. W_ORG_DX. Then you can just expose this column in the presentation layer for users. Unless the table in question has many millions off columns, just let it do this mapping for every row in the table for each ETL.
I would think that would be a very simple task, and would mean that you could change the mappings easily through the lookup table if needed. It also means that you don't need to touch the vanilla ETL mappings, and aren't changing the values in the vanilla columns, as you mentioned you didn't want to do this.

OBIEE Group By on 2 facts and concatenated columns from different dimensions

I have a different kind of problem involving 2 fact tables with different dimensional attributes.
Fact 1 has Dim Attributes ( Cust,Facility )
Measure - Gross Amount
Fact2 has Dim attributes (Cust,Facility and Risk Group )
Measure : Exposure Amount
Since we have 2 facts with different dimensions,
to exclude the 'Risk Group' dimension column from the group by for the Fact1,
we set the 'Gross Amount' measure to total level (Risk Group Dimension ) in contents tab.
So the values from both the fact tables appears in the same report correctly.
But in the same report we have another requirement where the rating column from the customer dimension has to be concatenated with the ratings column in the facility dimension.
We have to concatenate customer.rating with the facility.rating and display it in the report.
when we just pull the individual columns from the dimensions into the report it works fine.
But when we try to concatenate the 2 columns and show it in the report,
the concatenated column does not appear in the select or the group by in the SQL Fact2.( Generated by OBIEE )
The other fact1 has the concatenated column in the select as well as the group by clause ( Generated by OBIEE )
As a result the report shows the concatenated values only for the results from the Fact1. But the results from Fact2 does not have the concatenated column values.
The report should look like the below:
Custor.Name,     Customer.Id,     Facility.Name,     Facility.Id,     Customer.Rating/Facility.Rating,     Risk Group,     Gross Amount,     Exposure Amount

As suggested you really want to move your none-aggregated fact attributes to a logical dimension (using the same physical table as the logical fact). Map this in the BMM layer as a snowflake, Place a hierarchy on this dimension with (at minimum) Total -> Detail levels, then on the other fact table you want to include in the report, set the content level on your other fact measures to the 'Total' level for your new logical Dim and it will allow them to be present in the same report.

Difference bwt Group and Rptcurrency dimension

How to use GROUP dimentions in currency translation. what is the difference between rptcurrency and Group dimension.
I am not using Consolidation,But can i use the Group dimension in the currency translation

what i am tring to do is :
I want to test the currency translation in the Group mode. not in a rpt currency mode as mentioned in the note : 1254330. for my planning applicaiton.
1) I am able to do the currency translation from LC to Rpt currency in Rptcurrency mode.
2) How can i perform the same in the group mode. what steps do i need to maintian in the Group dimensioin.
3) Can i remove the Rptcurrency dimension and use the Group dimension in my planning application.
4) If i use the Group dimension does it work same as the Rpt currency dimesnion in my planning application.
I am bit confused with the properties invloved in the group dimension. how can they be used for my currency translation.

Hi,
In your Group dimension you should add a property called CONSO_TYPE. Anything entered in here will be available in the business rule header to select single/multiple Groups.
For example, in your dimension sheet;
Group ID     CONSO_TYPE
1                 A
2                 A
3                 B
and in your b rule header;
Group Filter
A
This will select Groups 1 & 2 for the business rule you are about to define.
