My iPhone 4 is unable to backup after I had the IOS upgraded to 4.3.5 ver. In iTunes, backup progress shown in initial progress even leaving it on overnight. What shd be done to normalize the backup process?
iTunes for my PC was also updated to the latest.
    .... SOS

You should be importing all pics taken with the iphone to your computer regularly as you would with any digital camera, particularly before any update or restore.
You should also be syncing your contacts to your computer regularly.  They hsould be in whatever program/service that you have selected to sync.
If you have failed to do this, then they are very likely gone.
You can try restoring from backup.

  • Reinstalling 10.4 after failed 10.4.5 upgrade

Having trouble getting 10.4 reinstalled on my mini after the 10.4.5 upgrade (system was running fine on 10.4.4) borked the login process.
    The story up to now...
Mac mini (1.25/40GB/1GB/Combo) was running 10.4.4 with no problems.
Downloaded and installed 10.4.5 upgrade yesterday - on reboot system went from white screen to blue screen (no login prompt) to black (single user login mode). Produced a number of errors regarding "udsserver_init: bad file descriptor".
Finally decided to just reinstall 10.4 from the DVD that came with the mini and redo the upgrade process.
Problem: every time I try to install 10.4 from the system DVD, I get "There were errors installing the software - please try installing again" part way through the install process. So far I have:
    - install keeping previous system settings (eg user account info)
    - erase the internal disk using Disk Utility (on the DVD) and then install
    - clear parameter RAM, erase disk, and install
The install fails each time, though not necessarily in the same place. Restarting and trying the install again seems to allow it to go a bit farther, but mayby that's just my imagination. System was problem-free with 10.4.4.
I'm out of ideas - any other hints?
    K
Mac Mini   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

    More info -
Decided to try installing using an unopened retail copy of Tiger I had laying about rather than using the mini's install DVD. No joy - same result - install always fails during the Essentials portion of the install. So the DVD doesnt seem to be at fault.
The Tiger retail installer did invoke a crash log - the first line says:
"BomFatalError - cpio read error: bad file format"
As a last-ditch effort, I stuck the Tiger install DVD into my PowerBook, put it into Target Disk mode, and then plugged into the mini's FW port and used the PB's SuperDrive to run the install ... and got the same result - the install fails somewhere in the middle of Essentials. So I guess the combo drive is not at fault either.
Interestingly, the mini happily booted from the 10.3.9 image on my PB's hard drive. I thought that OS installs were more closely tied to the hardware...
At this point I cry uncle - I assume I have some sort of disk or IO subsystem problem beyond my control. Time to see if the extended warranty I bought with this system (it's about 6 months old) is worth the extra money I paid.

  • Unable to print after installing the new Quicktime upgrade

I can not print to my Epson printer after installing the new Quicktime upgrade on my PowerBook G4 (1.67 GHz, OS X Version 10.4.11). I have re-installed the driver from Epson (several times), and have safe booted and reset my permissions but it will not print. My printer is a Epson Stylus Photo R1800. Thanks inadvance.
    Lohi.

    Dear
Guide information looks correct to me.
It's pretty hard to tell you what is wrong with so little information.
Check the defaulttrace.trc trace file of your portal environment.
Location depends on stack type (abap + java or java only)
    Located in /usr/sap/<SID>/DVEBMGS<instance nr>/j2ee/cluster/server0/log/system/
    OR
    Located in /usr/sap/<SID>/JC<instance number>/j2ee/cluster/server0/log/
It is very likely error messages are being written there that can be useful to help solve this issue.
Please paste its content in here, perhaps even from other log files that might contain valuable info.
    Kind regards

  • Users using Windows Authentication unable to login after upgrade to SQL Server 2012 SP2 CU1

We upgraded from SQL Server 2008 R2 to SQL Server 2012 SP2 CU1.  Upgrade was successful.  Users that have SQL Server Management Studio 2012 can successfully log in via Windows Authentication, but users with an older version of SQL Server Management
Studio are unable to log in via Windows Authentication.
The error they receive is listed below:
    Connect not connect to XXXXXXX
Login Failed.  The login is from an untrusted domain and cannot be used with Windows Authentication.
    (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 18452)
If we switch to Mixed authentication, users can log in via SQL Server Authentication.
Our security policy prohibits SQL Authentication.
Outside of having the staff upgrade to SQL Server 2012 SQL Server Management Studio, is there any setting I can set/unset to allow older version of SQL Server Management studio to connect to SQL Server 2012?
    Thanks.
    DJ

Glad to see that you were able to resolve the issue yourself, but for the curious, could you explain what this

  • Unable to login after 10.4.11 update

Software update downloaded the update for my G4 powerbook and I went ahead and loaded it as I had had no problems on my G4 700Hz angle-poise iMac. After the reboot I tried to log in but the log in box just shuddered (as in you got your password wrong).
I tried again, I also tried another account on the machine, still no luck. basically I can't log in to my Powerbook. The the two accounts use filevault if that is of any significance, unfortunately I have no non filevault accounts on the powerbook.
I booted my install disc and ran DiskUtil which found no errors (even permission errors), reset the passwords for the two accounts and made sure that my startup disk was set correctly.
    Still no joy.
Booting in single user mode shown that the sparse image files are there.
    Any ideas, other than reinstalling?

No, nothing helped. The problem I am experiencing seems to be different to the rest of the problems that people are having with the 10.4.11 update.
I am getting to the log in screen but the username and password is being rejected from both of my accounts (which incidentally use Filevault). Resetting the password from the install disk did nothing and the log in box does not prompt me for the master password after three failed logins.
I can find nothing in my system.log (from single user mode) to indicate a problem, however the crashreporter.log file starts complaining about mDNSResponder from the moment that the mac rebooted after the update. I can find no other reference to mDNSResponder failing in the log anywhere.
Looking in the crash log all the entries are the same and seem to relate to the web sites I was browsing in safari when the update was installing, and if I recall just at the end of the installation safari crashed on me.
Perhaps there is something in this although I don't see how there are related but they do all tie together. Here is an example crash reporter entry for the mDNSResponder, they are pretty much identical and again there are none before the reboot after the update. Just how this stops my logging in I don't know.
Is there a mDNSResponder cache of some sort that I could clear out?

  • Unable to login after system update

I recently installed arch in my lenova laptop. Installation went fine and I updated my system then. Finally I had a kernel 3.4.4-2 and rebooted.
After rebooting, I got the login screen (tty1) . I had not created an user yet. So had to login as root.
So When I enter the username as root and click enter , the password credential request is not getting loaded. After a space of 10 seconds, I am again redirected to login request.
I have never had this issue and I have been using arch for the past 8 months. Please advice

I am still stuck. The other thread that I mentioned was dicussing about adding hook to mkinitcpio because /usr was in a separate partition. That is not the case in my problem.
I rushed to close this thread before resolving my issue. the issue is still persisting. I could not login to the machine at all. And my partitions are as listed below
    sda1 - /
    sda5 - /home
    sda6 - /opt
    sda7 - /var/cache
    sda8 - swapspace
Again, I couldnot login once after updating the system. I could login before. Please advice

  • Unable to login after installing Security Update 2014-002

Current generation Mac mini with Mountain Lion 10.8.5.
Restarted to install the latest security update HT6207:http://support.apple.com/kb/HT6207
    Login screen appears as usual
When I correctly enter my password, the login screen flashes with a progress spinner and then quickly restarts the login screen. I am no longer able to login to the computer. Has anyone else had their Mac become bricked by this update? Any idea how I might be able to recover without installing a Time Machine backup in recovery mode?

If you reset the user's password you should be able to log in again:
Start up in safe mode (you must hold the RIGHT Shift key during boot): http://support.apple.com/kb/ph11212
Reset the password for your user: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11390Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Users & Groups, click the lock to unlock it and provide an administrator name and password, select a user, and then click Reset Password.
If that didn't work, you may have to clear the AuthenticationAuthority directory service property belonging to your user: https://discussions.apple.com/message/20583726#20583726
If you follow those instructions you may see some error messages indicating that certain properties aren't found, you can ignore those errors. After logging in, you may have to login to your Apple ID in the App Store application which you can do by opening App Store -> Store menu option -> Sign In.

  • Can't get past gray start up screen after failed software update

    Uh-oh. I think I'm in trouble now.
This afternoon I was trying to do a software update on my iBook. After about an hour and a half, there hadn't been any progress, so I figured it had frozen, and forced it to quit. When I tried to start it back up again, it comes up to the gray start up screen, and then just sits there and spins. Here's what I've tried so far:
Safe mode- doesn't work, just sits at gray screen
Using option key- shows my HD, I select it, sits at gray screen
Using OSX installer disk- I'm able to get to disc utility this way. SMART status says verified, ran repair disk and it found no errors. Tried to run repair permissions and it just sat there for about 3 hours with the bar spinning blue and white, but not actually filling up. It wouldn't allow me to stop repair permissions, so I had to force it to stop. I thought about reinstalling, but I don't have enough space on my HD.
So, that's where I am at this point. Now I find out how I've managed to mess things up so completely, and cross my fingers that someone will please, please, please have an answer. Thanks!

I tried to backup my iBook HD using target disc mode, but it wouldn't work. The target computer (G4 running 10.4) would come up to the blue screen with the FireWire logo bouncing around, and would go no further.
I think the problem there is that you need to boot the iBook with the T key held down, not the G4(10.4). What this does is mounts your iBook's drive on the G4. The bouncing FireWire logo should be on your iBook, not your G4. This means that you connect the two machines, hold down the T key on the problem computer to mount the volumes onto the working computer.
There shouldn't be a compatibility problem because it mounts it as an external hard drive (not necessarily a boot volume.)
Will the disc come out of the iBook when there is no longer a FireWire cable connecting to both computers?
    Let me know...

After my laptop auto screen lock out it requires me to switch the user [As I have 2 users here in my OS] before entering credentials?
This behavior was not native when i created another user, but it started recently. May i know the stupid reason behind  this irrational behaviour in my laptop? and greatfully if any fix available for this.

    Hi,
Do you mean you couldn't login even though you entered the password? Ia there any error message while you login?
Is the current user domain account or local account?
I recommend you delete the user profile from Advanced system setting>Advances tab>User Profiles. And the re-login the account.

  • Unable to boot after failed 10.10.2 update

    Hey all,
I have an early 2008 24" 2.8GHz iMac with a 120GB Intel 320 SSD and 6GB RAM that I installed myself. I performed a clean install of Yosemite 10.10.0, and with the 10.10.1 update, there were no issues, and the machine ran fine. However, when I attempted to update my Mac to 10.10.2, I ran into a serious problem.
Like many Yosemite users, it was very difficult to download the update from the Mac App Store update tab when it was first released. The download was occurring at a very slow rate taking well over two hours . I wasn't using my iMac for anything else during this time.
At some point during this process a family member accidentally unplugged the router. I went back to the Mac to check on it, and although the update was only halfway downloaded according to the App Store, the computer automatically restarted to apply the update before I could stop it.
I saw the update progress bar and the update seemed to install without any problems. However, when the Mac went to reboot, I was greeted with the prohibitory symbol. I tried restarting several times without success. I also tried to boot into Safe Mode and even single user mode, and neither worked. I also reset the SMC and zapped the PRAM, which didn't help. I also booted into the recovery partition on the drive and ran Disk Utility's repair disk on both the partition as well as the disk itself, and ran a permissions repair. It also didn't work.
I even hooked up my iMac to a friend's MBP via Firewire Target Disk Mode, and installed the 10.10.2 standalone update to the iMac, but it also didn't work. I was going to attempt the 10.10.2 combo update, but I read that it wasn't working for 10.10.1 systems, and only worked for 10.10.0 installs. I have a copy of the Disk Warrior 4.4 CD, and I booted up from that on the iMac and rebuilt the disk directory, but no luck.
Fortunately, I do have a Time Machine backup on an external HDD. I also don't exclude anything from the TM backups, which includes the System folder from OS X, so I attempted a restore from from my backup using the recovery partition. I have backups from well before the install began. I first tried earlier in the day before the install began, and when that didn't fix anything I tried a restore from a backup from a few days ago, but that didn't even work either!
Finally, I was forced to do an in-place reinstall of Yosemite from the recovery partition. The reinstall worked, and I was able to boot successfully into the desktop. Unfortunately, I have some missing files, specifically two months worth of Quicken data entry and part of my documents folder. I do know that I backed everything up via TM, so I'm not sure why those items are missing. Also, my Chameleon SSD Optimizer app won't open, and appears to be corrupted.
I'm trying to understand what exactly happened, and if there was another method I could have taken to get the Mac working again, other than the laundry list of things I tried. Since I had the iMac fully backed up (including system files) with TM before I tried to download and install the botched update, should I have tried to format the OS X partition with my recovery partition, and then run the TM restore so it could have replaced the corrupted system files with the working backup copy, rather than perform an in-place reinstall of Yosemite? Could I still do that now to get my files back?
Another thing I don't understand is why the Mac ran the update after it lost Internet connection in the middle of the update, which wasn't even finished downloading. Shouldn't the system have checked the update to ensure the entire bundle was downloaded before executing the install process?

What is your OS? Database version?
What is the error you get?
Can you find any errors in the database/apache log files?
    Thanks,
    Hussein

  • Gray screen of death after installing 10.4.11 upgrade

I installed the recommended update 10.4.11 on my PowerMac G3 and restarted. I can't get past the gray Apple screen and spinning circle. Same thing happened yesterday with my iBook G4, but I was able to get started after resetting the PRAM and restarting in Safe Mode about 20 times. I was finally able to re-install the update. But today I can't even start the G3 in Safe mode.
    Any suggestions?

I experienced something similar. Installation failed and when trying to reboot my computer got stuck on the gray screen.
I wrote a small HowTo that should help you: http://net3x.blogspot.com/2007/03/macos-x-1049-update-killed-my-mac.html

  • Missing all user-installed Apps after restore after failed 3.1.3 upgrade

I upgraded my 3G to 3.1.3. iTunes (9.0.2.25 on Windows 7 PC) first backed up the iPhone and then proceeded with the upgrade, which failed (never had this happen before) and forced me to do a restore from the latest backup. After the restore, I seem to have all my data in the native apps, but all user-downloaded apps are missing. I expected them to be present after the restore... No???? I didn't keep apps synced back to my iTunes previously. Are they all lost?

Update: I see ~370 megs of 'Other' usage and expect that to be my apps... but don't see any apps still.
