Console Log Error: org.ntp.ntpd
Checking my Console Error Logs I came across this listed.
*12/19/2007 1:42:58 PM com.apple.launchd[1] (org.ntp.ntpd) Unknown key: SHAuthorizationRight*
I did some checking and found that this has to do with the Date & Time preferences...
Every time I click on the Date & Time to choose a different location to "set date & time automatically", that error shows up in the console...
I tried reinstalling the org.ntp.ntpd with a fresh copy but that did not work.
This file lives in System/Library/LaunchDaemons
Anyone have any ideas how to fix this console log problem?
Upon further examination of my other computers, they all have it...
One computer was an upgrade to Leopard.
One computer was an Archive and Install and NOT preserve user settings.
One computer is brand new Aluminum 20" with Leopard already installed.
Apparently this need to be fixed by Apple because this was also on the brand new computer.
I assume that everyone is going to have this in their console....

I'm getting some errors and warnings in my console system log that I don't quite understand - they have me a little concerned since things have been running a little bit strange on my system over the past few days:
Mar 19 12:23:59 localhost DirectoryService[11]: WARNING - dsTouch: file was asked to be opened </var/run/.DSRunningSP1>: (File exists)
Does anyone know what the dsTouch file is (or does)? I can't find the file in /var/run/ even though it says it exists.
I also get this message *all the time* after every restart:
Mar 19 12:24:00 <computer name> airportd[24]: Error: ACInterfaceGetPowerPreference() called with invalid interface
Mar 19 12:24:00 <computer name> airportd[24]: Error: Not an ACInterfaceRef (null)
Any ideas as to what this means? I think it is related to the AirPort but I don't use any AirPort devices at all.
And this one has just started a few days ago:

I wonder if anyone with some more technical knowledge than I have can explain some of this - hopefully, there is nothing seriously wrong. I'm not getting any crashes or panics but just some generally strange behavior on my iMac in the last few days. I ran YASU on March 17th around 9:25 AM and I reset the PRAM on March 18th around 3:20 PM.
Thanks for any help you can provide,
GerardThanks baltwo,
I didn't get the .DSRunningSP1 warning today at all in any of the console messages - I've looked back in the console system log and see that I only had that message once. But speaking of users and groups, I did notice something strange and I don't know if this helps any or not. I checked the sharing and permissions on my System folder using Get Info and noticed a group called "wheel". What is that all about? It says that "wheel" has read only privileges to the System Folder whereas the user "system" has read & write privileges and "everyone" has read only privileges. I've never seen a "wheel" user before?
I checked the sharing and permissions on my home directory and there is no "wheel" user there but there is an "unknown" user with read only privileges and a user called "everyone" with read only privileges.
When I set up this new iMac in January, I transferred all the data from my old iMac G5 (which was running Mac OS X 10.4.11) using the Migration Assistant. Everything copied over just fine but I'm wondering if some files that shouldn't have been copied over, did get copied over and are interfering with things...
Also, you mention Directory Services as being what controls users and groups but that is only under Mac OS X 10.4.x. Under 10.5.6, all I can fine is Directory and Directory Utility (which I find royally confusing - I found Directory Services in Mac OS X 10.4.x much easier to use). Unless I'm missing something?
Thanks for your help,

TmanI was having this same issue oh..i'd say round 6pm ET Sunday...no problem anymore, because my mac has been totally wrecked by whatever this is....got in and started activating webservers pumping out info left and right. at this point i am hoping to preserve my music folder, the rest is trash. almost every file. this morning the filename of almost every process running in activity monitor ended in 'd' as in lookupd, blued.
anyone else?
btw...airport has been "off" since sunday...switched to hardwire...cable modem off since early this morning and im still pumping out and receiving data like crazy. Bluetooth? share files set to off..but it keeps changing on its own.

Trying to find root cause of near-daily lockups of this 2.4 GHz Macbook. All keys and mouse are locked and a long press on the power button is required.
-Tried to look at console messages and found that there are none since April of 2009.
-Tried to try Onyx to trigger the various log scripts. Downloaded and installed and found that it crashes on startup.
-Ran 10.5.8 combo updater. Did not change the above.
Ideas?
Thanks in advance,
TomWilliam, Thanks for your response.
Q: "When you see nothing since April of 2009, what is selected in the left column? "
A: "Console Messages" under the "LOG DATABASE MESSAGES" heading.
system.log is accessible either thru console or through Finder>Go>Go to folder.... It has plenty of current messages.
When Onyx crashes, the log entry is:
Mar 17 10:01:23 sue-pollaks-MacBook com.apple.launchd[82] ([0x0-0x49049].com.titanium.OnyX[960]): Exited abnormally: Trace/BPT trap
This doesn't give me any clues.
Yesterday the machine was sitting idle. Looking through the log entries, the only activity is Time Machine running at 23 minute past each hour. Then, at 22:35, the string of messages associated with booting begins. Hope it's OK to paste part of it here:

Error messages in Console Log of Apple System Profiler
Today, I manually executed some CRON scripts from the Terminal window as part of a regular maintenance cycle. Before doing so, I ran the Apple System Profiler (OS 10.2.8), clicked on the Logs tab, and checked the Console Log. It had three days of error messages and other info (more on this later), but my intent was just to check the last entries in the log before running the CRON scripts, so that I could detect any additional errors logged as a result of the CRON scripts.
Having checked the log, I quit the Profiler and all other applications. Then I opened the Terminal window and entered:
sudo periodic monthly
I was prompted for my adminstrator password, and it then executed the script. It took just seconds to execute. Following this, I also executed
sudo periodic weekly
sudo periodic daily
The weekly CRON took about 2 minutes to finish, and the daily only a few seconds. I ran Apple System Profiler again and checked the console log and found this additional error message (not present prior to running the scripts):
Feb 15 13:43:10 Drake-Bradleys-Computer sendmail[865]: NOQUEUE:
SYSERR(root): /etc/mail/sendmail.cf: line 93: fileclass: cannot open '/
etc/mail/local-host-names': Group writable directory
(I have inserted hard returns to break the single-line error message into three lines to avoid requiring readers to use the horizontal scroll bar.)
Can anyone tell me what this error means, and what, if anything, I should do about it?
Following all of this, I next repaired my permissions with Disk Utility (and yes, after dragging iTunes 6.0.2 to the desktop). I then ran the profiler, checked the log, and encountered these two additional error messages:
file not in an order that can be processed (local relocation entries out
of place): ./Library/Frameworks/StuffIt.framework/Versions/A/StuffIt
file not in an order that can be processed (local relocation entries out
of place): ./Library/Frameworks/StuffIt.framework/Versions/A/StuffIt
(Again, hard returns are inserted.)
The errors are identical. They presumably were generated by my running disk permissions, as other applications were shut down. It appears the error refers to the Suffit application.
Any ideas what causes these errors?
Finally, a last question. (And thanks for being patient with such a long post.) The console log contains a large number of error messages for each day. This occurs even on days when I have had no apps hang, or any other system problems (power failures, etc.) that I was aware of. Many of the errors seem to involve windows manangement. The most common one is:
Feb 14 17:11:18 Drake-Bradleys-Computer /System/Library/
CoreServices/SystemUIServer.app/Contents/MacOS/SystemUIServer:
kCGErrorIllegalArgument : CGSGetWindowGeometry: Invalid window
But other examples are:
Feb 14 17:42:21 Drake-Bradleys-Computer WindowServer[194]:
Cannot merge groups (yet) for wid 1877, otherwid 1881
Feb 15 10:34:37 Drake-Bradleys-Computer WindowServer[194]:
Reserved range exhausted. (0xbbf45000 to 0xbc271000 goes out of
bounds)
Feb 15 10:35:03 Drake-Bradleys-Computer WindowServer[194]:
CGXRemoveTrackingArea : Invalid tracking area
Is it fairly common for the console log to be filled with dozens of errors like this on a given day even though the iMac seems to be functioning normally?
Thanks for any advice,
Drake Bradley
P.S. I have a Casio digital camera and an HP printer hooked up to the iMac, and very recently, an Iomega HDD. (The latter was not connected for the tests reported above.)534/2980
Hi Drake,
Yes, it is common, and I wouldn't worry about it.
These "errors" are not about anything wrong. My guess is that it's a developer jargon to indicate that something didn't happen, only because there is no possibility of it happening given your specific settings/system options.
See for example the statements "System woke from sleep" or "System going to sleep" in "error_log"...
We don't know to what extend these "errors" belong to so many unmodified files that used to do something in UNIX 15 years ago, but are now completely useless, harmless and so small they can't affect Mac OS X performance in any way?
Enjoy your Mac!

Preview app fails to open any file, console log shows errors messages
Hi,
I backed up my old mac using TimeMachine and restored the TimeMachine image to my newly purchased iMac running 10.9.4. There were no errors during restoration, however when I try to open a file with the Preview app (such as a jpeg file), Preview app doesn't open the file and emits a variety of errors to the console log as below.
Is there a way to clear the state of the Preview app so I can fix this issue and use the Preview app to open images again? These image files open fine in Chrome, but I can't seem to use Preview to open any files.
Not sure if this is a bug with system restore or a bug in the new OS. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for any advice.

-rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 53421 Jun 28 01:33 /Applications/Preview.app/Contents/Resources/Base.lproj/PVPreferences.nibHi,
I tried both suggestions, but they didn't resolve the issue. Thank you both for trying to help.
The font tool was crashing when I tried to validate my font files. I looked and I didn't see the font in question listed in that tool. Crash stack is below.
I reinstalled the OS per Linc's instructions, but Preview still is crashing when opening a jpeg file. Crash stack is below.
Weirdly, most everything else seems to work okay: mail, safari, chrome, etc, all seem to function with no issue. The font tool isn't something I care about, but Preview app is something I use to review my pictures, etc.
Any other suggestions? Is there a good alternative app I should use in the meantime to replace Preview while I get to the bottom of the problem and resolve it?
Thanks,
Norm

Errors in Console.log when using OfficeJet 6210
Just ended a long, frustrating attempt to get support from HP regarding errors that appear in the console.log when scanning to PDF. They claim it's not their software -- The tech actually claimed that their software was thoroughly tested, ships bug-free and that it's 100% an Apple issue.
Here's what gets spewed into console.log:
Merely starting the application:

Mac synch warning POST/marketeer error type 100 in console log
I see many notices and warnings in the console log sent by dotmacsynchclient saying POST/marketeer (FAILED) httpStatus Code:503, errorType:100. How do I get rid of these. Everything else is looking fine. These are annoying. I've synched several times after getting all the settings just right. Just recently started over with a new erase and install of Leopard, updated it to 10.5.8 and most things look fine. Anyone else have this issue with .Mac and synching issues with Leopard?
Reset BusySync solved it for me
A few weeks ago the Console started reporting errors with mobileme syncing. The following kind of errors happened anytime a sync was attempted

I tried forcing a resync from my Mac to the cloud but the errors persisted. The errors started under 10.6.3 and continued under 10.6.4.
I happen to use BusySync. I simply reset BusySync's Sync History and the errors went away. Haven't had any more errors now for hours.
I recognize that doesn't exactly help if you don't use BusySync, but perhaps it offers a clue. For instance there might be a cache file that needs refreshed or deleted in order for things to line up properly again.
As long as you have good backups it might be worth disabling Sync, deleting the
~/Library/Application Support/MobileMeSyncClient
~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync
folders, reenabling sync, and forcing a sync from your Mac to the cloud. If that doesn't work then restore the folders and try something else.
Good luck! -
Should I worry about these errors found in the console log?

The "volumes" was a camera card I had inserted and I was able to view the information on it fine...The only problem I've been having is the battery not charging, but haven't determined if it's the adapter or battery or computer...or all the above (lol, if possible). The computer also used to go to "sleep" a few times randomly while in use...but it hasn't done it again yet...so far...? But I have no idea if any of these errors have to do with that.

We are seeing hundreds of these errors in our console log file:
mediaserver automount[4510]: Can't mount servername.domain.ooo.oo:/username on /private/Network/Servers/servername.domain.ooo.oo/username: Invalid argument (22)
Historically, users have had their home areas mount normally in the dock (as specified in our MCX settings for the group they are in), but of late we have been seeing only some of them getting mounted; and more than this the server is suffering random kernel panics throughout the week.
Any idea?
PaulHi Paul
That would be the one. Stuff also gets logged in /var/log/system.log.
After a kernel panic you could go into single user command line and just see what got logged perhaps?
tail -30 /var/log/system.log
Shows the last 30 entries. I think this is better than doing the whole log because it would take ages to scroll through it all. You could expand this to the last 50-60 entries. You never know it might log something? For example you may see a shutdown cause error followed by a number -93 or -122. You could review the energy saver settings just to make sure nothing is enabled that should be. Possibly the UPS may want looking at?
Hope this helps, Tony -

blazeds/trunk/modules/core/src/flex/messaging/MessageBrokerServlet.javaHi, wbracken ,
As known, there are 2 different questions I raised.
Regarding the reply for the second one (Nothing to do with Chinese), I noticed there are several similar issues found in this forum, and it seems no response could solve my that problem. The related methods and classes were also well check, as well as the parameters put.
Any way, your reponse was appreciated.
Thank you for the help.
