Console: mdworker "In the ICAL importer" * 8'000

Leopard is still as completely broken here as it's been since the beginning. After a pause of a few weeks when I did a clean re-install of 10.5, it's back to the routine of multiple daily OS freezes.
After a cold reboot, I have the pleasure of seeing my disks reindexed by Spotlight, happily sapping away my CPU time, several times per day.
I notice that as a new kind of fun distraction, Leopard has now started writing

into my Console when re-indexing the TimeMachine disk volume. Of course, to make it real fun, once or twice is not nearly enough... I get about 6'000 to 8'000 of these entries.
Can anyone perchance tell me what this could possibly mean, what is going wrong again now with this utter miserable failure of an OS? (Yes I freely admit I'm sick+tired of these silly games.)

This is a consequence of the last MailTags public beta (PB 3)-- it is a log line that was inadvertently left in the MailTags mdimporter. I will be issuing a fix later this week. You can disasble this by removing the MT_iCal.MTExtra file from ~/Library/Mail/Bundles/MailTags Extras folder.

  • ICal import not importing all dates...

I am attempting to create a calendar in iPhoto 08 using the iCal import option. For some reason, not all the records from iCal are getting imported. I selected all the iCal calendars in the "Settings" section but still cannot get them all to import.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

You have to reset the device to Factory Settings in order to restore it from an iCloud backup. You probably want to back it up as is before you do this.
To do the reset after you have backed up the current device, go to Settings>Reset>Reset all Content & Settings. This will erase the device. If you are signed onto iCloud with Find My iPhone turned on, go to Settings>iCloud and scroll to the bottom to sign out of iCloud before you do the reset.
Once you have reset your device, you will set it up like a new phone. When it asks if you want to restore it from an iCloud backup, select the backup you want to restore it from.
    Cheers,

  • I somehow erased everything (all important dates) off my ical on my mac and I'm afraid that if I connect my iphone that it will do the same there.  Will my iphone sync the dates that are on the phone and add them to the ical?  Or will it delete everything

Contacts are designed to be synced to a supported application on the computer or a cloud service.
Pictures taken with the device are designed to regularly be copied off the device to a computer as would be done with any digital camera.
If you have failed to use the device as designed it may be too late to recovery anything.
Is the device regularly backed up to a computer via iTunes?  If so, the most recent backup (when restored to a replacement iOS device) should contain all contacts and pictures as of when the backup was created.

Welcome to the Apple user discussion forums
I'll hit a few of your questions - others will have to do others since I'm not up on some of the issues you ask about
    4) is there an easy way to review/delete items (in 6, i run a basic slideshow and delete on the fly -- is this still workable in 7?)?
    Yes
    5) Are there significant functionality benefits of 7 over 6 (e.g., does the noise function or shadow/highlight really offer significant benefits? The Events seems obvious, but I'm more interested in "under the hood" experience
    Yes
Loseless editing - web galleries - events
    a) Is import any faster? As my library is growing in size, the import is getting overly slow
It is fine for me (only you can compare to your current) - I have 20542 items using 26.3 GB in 271 events
    7) Is there a full-screen edit mode?
    yes
    8) Can you configure events so that it's not just by day?
    yes
    9) Is 6's "roll" structure as mirrored in the file system still available in the Events approach, or is the database structure that once you've converted a library, there's no going back?
Events replace rolls (if your rolls are named - NOT the default rollxxx name - they will come across as is - to me events are rolls with much more capability and a new name - some people are VERY putoff by the change (but most love it) for reasons that I simply do not comprehend
    10) What is the effective (or advised) maximum library size? I've probably got over 60GB of images in my libraries now, with 20,000 images or so. If 7 can readily digest them (and preserve all my albums, etc.), then I'd love to combine them into one, unless that will kill performance, make the database unstable, drive backups into interminable waits, etc.
The advertised max is 250,000 photos - I have about the same number of photos as you in about 1/3 the space - there are a few users here with libararies your size. With iPhoto Library Manager it is easy to maintain multiple libraries if you choose

  • After unarchive a repository, the auto import is not working

    Hi All,
I've met a problem when I archived a repository and unarchive it using another repository name:
I can login to it by Console, and Data manager, etc. But when I put a input file to the Ready folder of its port, the file is not processed by the Import Server. On the other hand, all the other repositories on that server remain fine and the auto-import is normal.
Could any one tell me if there is any other Config shold be done to make the import work?
PS: still the 5.5 version, not 7.1.
    Thanks,
    Angela

    Hi Angela,
If you are using any password for Admin user then same needs to be mentioned in MDIS.ini file. Check the below steps
    1. Open MDIS.ini file located in <MDM Insallation directory>/Import Server
    2. Navigate to your repository section
    3. Remove the character 'E' from the entry PasswordE
    4. Write the password of Admin user i.e. Password = abc
    5. Restart the Import Server once and check the same password entry, it should get converted to PasswordE and the value should be some characters.
    6. Now check the Auto Import

  • ICal Imported Events Don't Appear in One Calendar

    Hi,
I'm transferring data off my old Powerbook G4 with OS 10.4.11 to my new Macbook Pro with Lion 10.7.3, and I'm having a problem with importing iCal data.
When I did an iCal database backup import, 8 out of my 9 calendars seemed to be coming through, but one was not showing up at all in any view. So...
I tried to exporting this single calendar into Dropbox and importing it into my new computer's iCal. This attempt gave me an error something like "iCal can't read this file, no data has been transferred." So...
I tried a trick I read about, opening the .ics file in TextEdit, then changing the extension to .vcs and changing the second line Version:2.0 number to Version: 1.0. This only got some of the events into the new iCal, but definitely not all and with seemingly random results - some reapeating events missing, some one-time events, etc.
This is a real problem for me, as I do reference past events a lot. I can't get rid of the old stuff and move forward until I've shifted ALL of my data over, and many events from this calendar are missing.
Does anyone know what's up? Any fixes for this issue?
    Many thanks for any help!
    Dave

After 3.5 hours on the phone with applecare, I believe this problem of not syncing ical from ipod touch to the ical app is resolved. Here are the steps that made it happen for me:
Log out of main account and log into root account. If you haven't set up the root user yet follow the directions in your Mac Help on your computer. Make sure you understand the implications of setting up the root user account. You may want to disable the root user after you are done with this fix.
In Finder, navigate to /Users/(your account)/Library/Application Support and delete every folder in the Application Support directory that has the word 'Sync' in the folder's name.
Log out of the root account and back into your main account. Sync your ipod touch / iphone and see if this worked for you.
    Good Luck!

  • ICal imports Palm all day events as 2 day events - easy to fix?

    Hi,
I want to make the switch from Palm desktop 4 to using iCal 3 but I've run into a problem. When I import the vcal exported from Palm, the iCal makes all of the all (one) day events into 2 day events.
Is there anyway to fix this so the all day event displays only on the day it was set for in Palm?
I'm hoping I don't have to do all of these by going back to my oldest events and changing the dates by hand because I have almost 9 years of data in my Palm calendar.
    Thanks.

Just to update what I've been trying without success.
I exported the Palm datebook as .csv file. I then edited any entries that began and ended the same day without any times, i.e. the one day all day events, to begin at 12:01am and end at 11:59pm. Then after backing up my Palm user data and prefs, I erased my Palm data and reimported this .csv file into Palm desktop, then I reexported it to a vCal and imported that into iCal.
It made a mess out of things because I discovered some of these all day events also repeated. I'm not sure what to do with repeating events.
I tried going into iCal and manually changing the events but then I end up with many duplicates if they are repeating.
I exported the iCal data and opened it in Text Wrangler. Then I exported the calendar from Sunbird. It seems like the iCal is adding an extra "end date" that isn't in the file when I import it into Sunbird.
Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

  • Aperture fails to import 10,000 pics - hangs, instead, and takes 200% CPU

    Help!
I am an IT professional and a professional photographer. But I have now spent a MONTH!! trying in vain to import my photo library into Aperture on my iMac.
I try to import 10,000 images (the import mode that leaves originals where they are) from my 1 TB firewire drive (bought at Apple store). Result same every time: it imports for hours or days (taking 200% CPU - who writes this malware?) , then hangs up completely.
Apple is no help.. no phone number to be found anywhere. I'll even pay.. this is my work, and I cannot do it.
I have followed maybe 50 threads here and on Google about similar issues and I have done everything that everyone suggests. No difference.
My latest import again halted with the app locking up. Here is what I did:
I bought a 1 TB RAID0 drive at the Apple Store. I copied all my photo shoot directories ove rthere. I emptied Aperture (deleted all projects, restarted). I then started re-importing the images from the new drive (I chose the way that leaves the originals where they are).
So far it has been chugging along all night creating thumbnails. The CPU is 200% used (of which 190% is Aperture). Aperture is completely unresponsive. In fact - Aperture is so unresponsive I am sure it has hung up. Yes, it has - no activity but 200% CPU. Ok, I force quit and now I need to repeat the process again?
This does not seem like good software - certainly not well behaved. I mean, how difficult can it be to import 10,000 images - that is what this software is for. Right? So make the app “nice” 10, already, so I can do other things meanwhile. Or give me a progress bar, with an ETA.
I am willing to learn - not being difficult. I have Googled others’ issues. I have followed instructions. I have tried support (no help there). I ask here.
But should it really take month to import my images? I am very close to throwing this crapware out and getting Lightroom instead.
Ideas welcome. Or an Apple phone number, which Appleseems to be very adept at hiding at all costs. I'll pay for the **** service!!!!!
    Michael

    Welcome to the forum.
The phone number will be on the AppleCare document that came in your Aperture box, along with an AppleCare ID for your copy of Aperture.
Also, typing 'applecare telephone number' into Google will give you http://www.apple.com/support/contact/phone_contacts.html as the very first result...
I've never imported more than a thousand images at once but have not seen the kind of problems you are describing. What happens if you try importing smaller chunks at a time?
Progress bar - open up the Activity window (Window>Show Activity) to view the progress of all background tasks such as importing & exporting, generation of thumbnails and Previews. You'll also see a 'working' indicator at the bottom of the Viewer or Browser panes, clicking on this will normally bring up the Activity window. Finally, the Project you are importing into will show a pie chart progress indicator instead of it's usual 'filing box' icon.
    Ian
P.S. '+(taking 200% CPU - who writes this malware?)+' - if you're an IT pro then you're already aware that apps that are working flat-out and are multi-core aware are going to grab as much of the CPU(s) as possible. 200% and not doing anything is a problem - 200% in itself simply means the app is making full use of the resources available, and RAW decoding is an extremely CPU-intensive task.

  • ICal import bug when creating calendars in iPhoto 2011

    Hi,
I just created a calendar in the new iPhoto 2011 and imported an iCal calendar to the project.
What I discovered is that it only imports one event per day to the calendar in iPhoto, although the calendar in iCal has sometimes more than one event per day.
Fx. in my calendar in iCal I have two events on a certain date, f.x my mothers birthday and my son's birthday on January 18th. However when importing this calendar to the calendar project in iPhoto only my mothers name gets imported. This was not an issue in iPhoto 2010.
Am I doing something wrong or is this a bug?

Definitely a bug and unforgivable given the time of year - I usually order a couple of calendars as Christmas presents - If I can't order them in time for Christmas then Apple have lost the business.
It seems to me that iLife 11 was rushed out for Christmas. First the appalling upgrade problems and then the realisation that Calendars were not included. Two patches later and we still have an un-useable Calendar.
The worst part about it is, it's not obvious - I wonder how many people have ordered calendars and not noticed the missing Birthdays. I can see a lot of disappointed friends and relatives next year whose birthdays will be missed.
My only hope is an old backup of my Macbook - pre upgrade. If I can boot from that disk, import my recent photos, import the latest version of the iCal Calendar events, I can recreate the Calendar with iPhoto '09. Not sure I can be bothered,

  • Are the ical versions compatible?

I'm trying to share calendars between two Mac machines (running different versions of Mac OS X and ical) by syncing them to my .mac account, but that doesn't seem to work. Should I be able to do this?
I reset my .mac account from both machines and uploaded my calendar from the PowerMac G5, but the mini gets nothing (actually, it deletes all of the mini's calendars when it downloads the PMG5's calendar from .mac). It's like the older version of ical can't handle the newer version of ical's calendar format (Isn't it an ".ics" file?).
I tried the whole publish/subscribe, but that didn't seem to work either. Seems like the publish from the PMG5 can't be read by the mini (maybe the same version difference). I can probably get it to work by publishing the mini, but now I can't even load the mini with an icalendar schedule from the PMG5.
I would like to be able to display and change the calendar on either machine (they are not used at the same time). Is that possible?
    My configuration is:
    1) A Mac mini running Mac OS X version 10.3.9, ical version 1.5.5 (v670), and iSync version 1.5 (v139).
    2) A PowerMac G5 running Mac OS X version 10.4.6, ical version 2.0, and the built-in .mac sync.
Should I try to start my own WebDAV server or is the problem in the different data formats between the ical versions?
I can update the mini to 10.4 if that's what I need to do.
    Mac mini (10.3.9) & Power Mac G5 (10.4.6)

Thanks for finding that info article for me. I wasn't able to find anything on this topic. Thanks!
I think I'm going to take your advice of updating to OS X 10.4.
From what I understand in the info article, I need to get the calendar on the 10.3 machine up to date with the correct calendar information to proceed. The machine that has the correct calendar is the 10.4 machine. I've tried to import an ical ics file from version 2.0, but it seems like there is something in the file that keeps the information from importing in the older version of ical. The import doesn't produce an error message, but just does nothing.
Anyway, I'm just going to take your advice and update to the 10.4.* version of OSX. Once the machines are on the same OS, I'm hoping that the .mac sync will work better.
Thanks for your help and for finding that information for me!

  • I FINALLY figured out the iCal to Google sync!!!

This is not as straight forward as some would lead you to believe! Once you have done it, it's surprisingly simple, but you have to do the steps in order. Here's what I've found:
1st - create your iCal calendar with all the entries and calendars you wish.
2nd - create a BLANK Google calendar to use (not a sub-calenday, but your main Google Calendar)
3rd - in iCal, export each calendar you have (if only one, fine) to your desktop
4th - in Google Calendar create those same calendar titles (this is where you'll be importing the exported iCal calendars too)
5th - import exported iCal calendars into matching google calendars
6th - in iCal turn off your calendars by unchecking them
7th - in iCal go to iCal > Preferences > at the bottom of the "Accounts" box there will be a "+" and "-" signs. click on the "+" and follow the prompts.
8th - once the link is set up go to the "delegations" tab and there should be a list of all the calendars (except if you only had one, and then this does not apply). select each calendar you want to sync with.
9th - Now you can go back to the calendar portion of iCal and delete all the iCal calendars. There should be a list of Delegates that matches the iCal calendars you are deleting. If not DO NOT DELETE the ICal Calendars. Start over!
If you run into problems contact me here.

When I originally imported the *.ics file I received this message: Failed to import events: Unable to process your iCal/CSV file..
Most of the events moved over. The sync seemed to not care when or by whom the events were created. There were events created by the same person with the same parameters, and not all those events moved over. Ones created on the iCal prior to export did not come over at all, but still show in iCal.
I also need to mention the iCal is linked to the Entourage. I did not delete that calendar from iCal, so not sure if that would create an issue. It is unchecked though. I am leary of deleting the calendars not knowing if the Entourage link will be lost. The events on this computer all come through Entourage (the program is also used for emails and address book).

I am trying to move my old iCal calendars that used to sync fine to the new ones to sync to mobile me
I exported each calendar but when I try to import each I get

It occurs whether or not I choose to keep or remove unsafe alarms.
I have deleted iCal caches etc.

i'm having this problem as well. (in addition to duplicate calendars of the ones i was able to manually import.) any help would be greatly appreciated.

this isn't really the way i had hoped to spend my saturday night, i'm really disappointed that ical didn't sync intuitively to mobileme--isn't that why i pay for a subscription?

  • Trying to Locate  file or Doc. from the iCal or Calender, does anyone know?

I hope I am in hte right department and I hope someone can try to help me to locate either a file or a Document that helps write and stores data to the iCal or Calender. The reason I need to find this file or Doc. is because I am switching and upgrading to Leopard and I want to drag a copy of this iCal or Contact file or Doc over onto my external 2nd HD and hook up my Newer Computer with OS Leopard on it place that file or Doc into the other iCal (Leopard). I have put in alot of Calender data info in iCal and I don't want to have to manually do it over again, so if I can have someone that knows where this iCal file or doc is of iCal I would really appreciate it. I already sent a copy of my address book and my Safari Bookmarks over to the new Computer I just need that File from iCal.
    Thank You,
    Mrs. Trisha Foster

in my Computer I was only able to find only two files or Docs, the ones that I was only able to fine in the Preferences ƒ was the com.appleiCal.plist, com.apple.iCal.helper.plist, there is the com.apple.iCal.AlarmScheduler.plist in the Preferences ƒ., should I include that in my copy back up Folder? I couldn't find the iCalExternalSync.plist in the Preferences ƒ, also couldn't find in the ByHost ƒ was the com.apple.iCal.helper.plist with the 12 digit Hex number, I tried using the Search Box and nothing came up, Those Files or Docs has to be somewhere on my computer because I have created events, Holidays. Movies, Special Favorite TV Shows, DVD Releases and Birthdays, and Anniversaries, If I have created these data then it should show up somewhere in the computer right? If they aren't in my computer then how is it that the data that I created is showing up in iCal?
Or isn't it that important that I need those 2 Files or Docs for my data that I had created?
I did find something and was wondering if theses other files or Docs might be helpful or equivalent to what I am trying to find .... 872CCEEF-0700-435A-B4AA-196745DF4690%2F-.icalevent
(user/user name/ library/caches/metadata/iCal/ (31 digit Hex #)/"............" .icalevent), I have found or have 5 of them, will I need those for the data that I created?
Those other two files or Docs that are missing from my computer, would you know or where do you suggest that I look on my computer? or what do you suggest that I do if somehow that I can recover them? do you think that they might be someplace else on my computer?
You know what.....I think I may have found those two missing Files or Docs in a Back up from my 2nd external HD, I am going to try to test it by switching from my old computer (Tiger) to my new Computer (Leopard) by disconnecting and reconnectiing to my new Computer, I will get back to you and let you know if this worked or not.
Thank You, will get back to you.

  • Which client does the Integration imports get imported into?

In all of the documentation it just says to import the appropriate imports, but into which client should they be imported, 000 or in our case 800 (IDES version of BW/BI 7) which is the client we will be connecting to BOE?
    Thanks!
    Ryan S.

    Bashir-
Thanks for the reply.  My question is regarding the transports that need to be imported into your R/3, BW, ERP system so that it can connect with BOE.  The transports that are in the /Transports directory when the integration kit is unzipped.  I haven't seen any documentation on which client on my BW system these transports should be imported into.  Should it be 000 as they are cross-client type of things or do the transports need to be imported to the client you will be connecting to BOE?
