Console questions

I sometimes check the console particulrly after something has crashed or quit unexpectedly, and there is nearly always a long string of entries like this one:
2007-05-06 18:31:21.899 SyndicationAgent[12204] WARNING: BestCalendarDateFromString - can't interpret: 'Sun 06 May 2007 14:00:53 -800'
What is the Syndication Agent, why can't it interpret whatever it is looking for, and is that involved in the current crash, whatever it was? If it is a problem, what do I do to fix it?

I constantly see them. AFAICT, they're innocuous, so ignore them. I don't know if they're in response to malformed webpages or something amiss with Safari. I do suggest sending a bug report to Apple and see what engineering tells you. Send a bug report (or enhancement request) via its Bug Reporter system. Join the Apple Developer Connection (ADC)—it's free and available for all Mac users and gets you a look at some development software. Since you already have an Apple username/ID, use that. Once a member, go to Apple BugReporter and file your bug report/enhancement request. You'll get a get a Bug ID number; thus, starting a dialog directly with engineering.

Silly console question.

Hello All -
I have several 210's up and running happily.
I need to console into one which has gone down.
Using a Cat5E patch cord, and the supplied db-9 to rj45 adapter that came with the server, the silver adapter...I believe it's part number 530-3600-xx?
Connecting to the rj45 serial management port on the back of the server.
Using Hyperterm, 9600 8N1, no flow control (tried hardware and software).
I get 0 output to the console. Powering the server off and on, same problem.
I've swapped laptops, cables, connectors.
Any thoughts as to what the heck I'm missing?

In some occasions using a straight through Cat5 cable is enough to DTE - DCE thing straighten up (it 'swaps' pins 3 & 6 on the RJ45 by sendin 3 to 3 and 6 to 6 the Orand & Orange/White Pair)(see sunfan's post http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5248128&tstart=0) if it does not work try a CrossOver cable in lieu of Straight through (3 to 6 on RJ45)
If things are still not working, which can be the case if V210 needs more than Ground get a standard CISCO DB9 to RJ45 cable to connect to the Serial RJ45 at the back of the server.
If there is nothing of the above working build your own cable, I did mine cutting a DB25 Null Modem cable right in the middle and splicing the wires back (matching colours) together and then cut one end off a Cat5 and slice with the previous Null Modem as follow (see table). One DB25 end would then be DTE and the other one DCE ... I haven't find a server that does not want to print out something ... unless the connector is oxidised (that happens too).

EM DB Console question

Hi,
I have a question about EM DB Console. I'm not sure if it's also related with Grid Control, but maybe.
I can't find any information for setting the EM administrators (link Setup and then Administrators). I thought that to do this I first have to create a DB user with DBA role and make this user EM admin. But I noticed there's no need for that. I can create administrator in EM and he is created in DB with MGMT_USER role. He can watch EM but do nothing..
But I can also add an existing user and give him a password that is different from his DB password. Then this user can't connect with that 'EM password'. Why is that?
Any links to docs will also be userful for me. I've read Oracle documentation about EM, but also didn't find anything useful.

Yes, if there's no such user in the db it's ok - I understand. And yes, the user is granted MGMT_USER role.
But if there IS already a user in the db? What is the password for? And if it is there, why I can enter whatever and user still needs his/her DB (NOT "EM") password to connect to EM.
BTW, if user is not added to EM administrators, but has appriopriate privileges - I gave the DBA role, he/she still can make changes to the DB using EM GUI. He/she only doesn't seen two links: Setup and Preferences.
It's 10.2.0.1 database on WinXP.

Virtual consoles question

hi, I'm aware this is a probably dumb question but ...
in my installation there are only 7 VC (virtual console), trying to launch gdm and slim to login into 2 different windows manager (I'm experimenting with compiz fusion standalone and sometimes I need to see how openbox works in the same condition) happened the warning/error message "VC7 is already in use, do you want to use another VC? yes/no" (this is not the exact message) I tried to launch it on VC8 but on that VC I have a "black screen with a flashing underscore" where I cannot write nothing.
now my question is, is it possible to have more X session opened in more than one virtual console (and so enable more than 7 VC)?
I'm running a 1 year old installation of arch linux so it's possible I broke something or something has been modified in new installers..

anyway,in case someone know how nitrogen works, running "DISPLAY=:1 nitrogen --restore" or "nitrogen --restore" I get:
"Couldn't find group for :1.0."
"Could not get bg info"
p.s. it doesn't work with openbox too so it's not compiz standalone related

Solaris Management Console question

Just wondering. I have tried to use the Solaris Management console several times. I have a solaris 10 box setup with a fress full install and when I launch the console the window comes up:

It never goes past that. I have tried it on a couple of different installs and I do not think it has ever worked for me. I must be missing something simple. Can anyone point out what I am doing wrong?

running "/etc/init.d/init.wbem start" did the trick. I had suspected that a service might need to be started.
It works well on the global zone, but I am having trouble with it on my local zone. I suspect it is something I have done with that zone because I have been testing on it. I am going to spawn a new local zone and test it on that.

OpenLDAP + wls7 console question

We are using OpenLDAP as our authentication provider in our 7.0.2 weblogic
servers. Users can successfully authenticate and group membership seems to
work fine. From this I am assuming that I have successfully configured the
server. Based on this assumption, why can I not view users or groups in the
admin console? When I click on the Users link, I receive the following
message:
There are no Authentication providers available that support the creation of
Users.
Is there something that I can do to enable the viewing/editing of
users/groups
from the console?

Weblogic portal 10.3.2 sample domain admin console question

I'm using the sample domain shipped with WebLogic Portal 10.3.2 for some testing. I'm trying to access the admin console, could someone tell me how to find the user name and password to access the console? I thought weblogic/welcome1 was the default.

Just installed WLS10.3.2 and created the default base_domain using the conf wizard. When asked, I provided the username "weblogic" and password "welcome1". But now I can't logon to the admin console. I've tried also passwords like webl0gic, weblogic, weblogic1, password1, passw0rd and then some. Any other possibilities?

1) Why isn't Netscape 6 supported yet?
2) Is there a way to monitor active database connections so I can see
how many are in use at any one point in time?
3) There use to be a way to see all the Servlets deployed but I don't
see Servlets anywhere in the new console.
4) Is there a way to configure an ACL on the console so only certain IP
address ranges can get to it?
5) Can I secure portions of the console so I can give our operations
folks just the monitoring portion?

On #3 below - this is only true if you use a WAR file but they do not
appear when they are deployed exploded - at least we don't see our Servlets.
I would think they should show up since we still have to configure the
XML files but they don't.
#1 - We use it all the time and the latest versions are very stable.
At least I have fewer problems then my co-workers who use IE. Will it
be available in a SP?

Servlets are deployed as part of webapps. You should see the webapp's
deployed in console..

EBS-OTM Item Integration BPEL Console question

I apologize in advance if this is the incorrect category in which to post the question.
We are trying to customize the Item Integration piece that comes into OTM (6.1.0) from EBS Order Management (11.10). We have made our changes to the APPS package and the JAR files in the WshSendItemRefDataToOtm bpel instance.
When we test our changes, we can see our new elements and their values (DOMAIN NAME TMS and XID CASE) coming through during the G_getEBSItemInfo_OutputVariable in the BPEL audit (InvokeEBSItemPL) but the values are not there for the outputVariable from WshXFormToOutput. Our new elements show in its XML, but they are empty? Any ideas?

I suppose you are using seeded BPEL jar for OTM-EBS integration. I think you need to make the changes to code. unzip the jar and in .xslt file make the changes. Once done you have to Jar the file again and deploy it.
We had a similar issue when we added new fields, but we found out it alwyas better to write our own custom code than using oracle provided BPEL code.

Admin Console Question

Hi Experts,
if I goto user--> resources--> ad resource--> view and then goto child table to view groups that user belong to it shows some time 's all the groups on child form some times it shows blank record but underlying table has record. in the database but admin console wont show where do I make change?

if A user has 6 groups on database; it is showing 6 records on admim console but some are records 1,2,5 are visible some are records 3,4, 6 are empty not showing on the child form; if I run group lookup recon will that fix.

TACACS console question

Hi,
I have just put TACACS on a few IOS devices, I am only using a default group which is set up to provide level 15 priviliges. As I am using the same default group on both vty and console I would expect access by the 2 methods to be the same but when I telnet in I get level 15 straight to the # prompt, but when I console in I still get prompted for the enable secret.
Any ideas

You are finding a behavior that Cisco has done for a long time (and probably for good reason). The TACACS authentication/authorization to put someone directly into privilege mode by default works on the vty and does not work on the console.
The rationale is that if you make a mistake in configuring authentication/authorization (very easy to do - especially if your understanding of what you are doing is a bit weak) it would be easy to lock yourself out of the device. So by default it works on vty and does not work on console (prividing away to recover from problems). There is a hidden command that you can use to also have this work on the console (be very careful that your config works properly before you enable it on the console).
If you want it, try this:

Design console form designer issue

Hi All,
I have problem on 11g r2 design console,
Question is:
1) can we delete the custom or by default process form fields in form designer
The problem is I deleted the custom process form field in form designer along with unfortunately I deleted the by default one that is *"UD_ADUSER_USERPRINCIPALNAME*"
after the version is activated. Now I am adding the default one by creating new version, but it is not saving and the version not activating.
I am getting the error like this when the version is activating
*"Newer version of the user defined form does not contain all of the fields that are mapped for reconciliation. : Newer version of the user defined form does not contain all of the fields that are mapped for reconciliation. Updated failed"*
If i go to the previous version it also showing the same error and it is not saving and activate the version. Just I done the above operation deleted and again I am trying to adding that fields with new version I am getting the above problem

This form is attached to a specific resource i.e, for a specific process definition of a resource.
In that process definition under reconciliation field mapping, the deleted column is still mapped.
That is the reason you are getting this error. If you want to delete any form attribute, first remove the reconciliation field mapping in process definition.
Then delete the column/attribute and make version active.
