Consolidate Albums in 11.1.12

Cant find anything on this in regards to the latest itunes (11.1.12). Im referring to how one album is broken up into two or three albums of the same name depending on artist (example- Johnny Cash greatist hits broken up because of other songs with other artists. or Kiss Double Platinum broken up into three albums depending on the writer of the songs). Thanks.

Generally this means you do not have the correct album artist, or a blank album artist. In this instance when you select every song on the album and do a right click>get info there will be two fields of importance "Album artist" and "Artist". The "artist" field will be the one that represents tracks on the albumb that Johnny Cash collaborated with like Jackson which features June Carter, and "Album artist" represents who the albumb is listed under, which is just Johnny Cash. So in ONLY the "album Artist" field will you type Johnny Cash. they will all then be grouped together. If this doesn't work select all of the songs again and get info, go to the options tab and mark as part of a compilation and click ok. then remove the files and readd them, select all and remove from compliation and the settings will hold the album together and not group as a compliation.

Generally all you need to do is fill in an appropriate Album Artist. For more details see my article on Grouping Tracks Into Albums, in particular the topic One album, too many covers.
BTW, are you really still using Windows 2000?

  • Itunes artwork view

When I am browsing songs in itunes (7.0.2.16) in either of the artwork views, 99% of all the music is not grouped by album.
It only gets grouped by album if in the second of the three views, the actual album is selected in the album pane. If All (# Albumns) is chosen in the album pane the gouping is lost.
I have tried the advice found at:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304389
    with no luck.
What is going on? Or is this a known bug?
The most frustrating part is that in the 3rd view, each song is getting its own album art image, creating a huge number of things to flip through.
    Thanks.
      Windows XP

if you click on the heading in the list for albums, the button actually has 2 sides to it. Left anf right, even though it looks like a single button.
Click on the left side to scroll through the options of 'album' > 'album by artist' > 'Album by year' . then click on the right hand side of the button to click the arrow so that they go either in order, or reverse order.
with 'album by artist' selected it should group all the songs. if it isn't then you need to selct each album that isn't behaving, and edit the entire albums worth of songs in one go, by selecting all the tracks and hitting control 'i' (guess, as it's apple 'i' on a mac).
type in something in 'album artist'. this will consolidate albums like kanye west where each track is by him + some other numpty.
or for albums like 'now thats what i call music' you need to edit the same, but check the 'compilation album' checkbox, this will then consolidate them in to a single item when viewed in coverflow.
    does that work for you???

  • CD tracks split

I have some CDs that I have uploaded to iTunes that iTunes thinks some of the tracks belong to a different CD, even though the CD name is the same. I go to "get info" and make sure the album name is the same for all tracks, but it still thinks they belong to different albums. I have tried right clicking and "consolidate album" and that does not work. Is there any way to convince iTunes that one track belongs to a different album?
    Thanks,

thank you for that. have the same trouble

How do I consolidate a song into an album, each purchased separately, in my iTunes library? iMac OS X 10.8.5. iTunes Help has been no help.

However, my troubleshooting issue is that I also want the songs in my concert playlists to go in order of how they were performed at the concerts.
    Give them a track number.
Each time I number them within the playlists the song's number also changes within the Library Music list.
And?  I'm not seeing the problem.
However, I can not figure out how to make true copy. I've already tried dragging the song to my desktop, then dragging the new copy back into iTunes. I've even tried renaming the duplicate copy and dragging it into iTunes. Why won't my iTunes make an individual duplicate copy of a song?
How do you have iTunes manage your music?  If you drag a song to the desktop it may just be moving the file to the desktop.
Command+R to reveal the file in Finder.  Command+D to duplicate the file in Finder. Drag the duplicate to iTunes to add the second copy.  Not that I totally understand where the issues lie and feel this is likely not the best remedy...

  • Consolidate tracks into one album

I have the latest version of itunes and I ripped one of my cd's last night.  It's a 2 disc album and it ripped disc 2 fine as one album, but disc one is all separate tracks.
I have selected all the tracks and clicked "get into", changed all the info to the same and it used to combine all the tracks into one album, but now for some reason it won't work.  I have tried the "consolidate" option and that doesn't work either.
I don't particularly like the new itunes interface to be honest, it looks very cold and uninviting
Apologies if i'm on the US site of Apple, I keep changing the page to UK and it keeps reverting me back to US again!

    Hi there.
Thanks for your reply.  I was trying to do this last night, I updated to itunes 11 a few days ago.  I turned on my laptop this morning and found there was another update, so I updated and now it works!
The album in question is a various artists one, so I change the album artist to various artists, so it preserves the artist name on each individual track.
I don't know about you, but when an album has more than one disc, I always re-number the tracks and combine them all into one complete album, it looks tidier that way, instead of having disc 1, disc 2 etc.
I guess I'll have to get used to the new interface of itunes, as long as it works properly that's all that matters I suppose.

  • I have just added an album to my iTunes from a CD. But the tracks are now displayed in 2 places in my iTunes library. How do I consolidate them into a single album?

I have just added an album to my iTunes from a CD. But the tracks are now displayed in 2 places in my iTunes library -- as if I had downloaded 2 seperate albums. How do I consolidate them into a single album in my iTunes?

Did you use the same method to add each of the six albums to your library?  With some of iTunes configuration options, some imports (CDs, Store purchase, use of the Automatically add to iTunes folder) will go into the standard media folder location, but the other methods to add media files already on your PC (Add File to Library..., Add Folder to Library..., drag and drop) will leave the files in their original spot.
The other factor that may influence where iTunes locates media files is the setting of the "part of a compilation" flag in the media metadata.  When this flag is set iTunes (when configured to organize your media and copy all additions to the media folders) will place files in iTunes Media\Music\Compilations\album_title rather than iTunes Media\Music\artist_name\album_title.

Can I use Consolidate Files to move different tracks into one Album?

No, that's not what the Consolidate command is for. That command for getting all your track files into a single folder. To get all the tracks in an album to appear together, just Get Info on the tracks and make the album name all the same for each track. See:

Duplicate the tracks, then edit the properties of the duplicates. Or make a playlist, but then you don't get to add different artwork. You cannot make one physical audio file part of two different albums.

I don't think you want to combine all of the HTML into one file. That doesn't make too much senese. If you wanted to, then just copy everything from all 3 files between <body></body> and paste into one html file between <body></body>. I think what you're trying to do is create seperate static pages. I would read/youtube how to setup a blogger website.
