Consolidation files problem - iTunes changes song name

I upgraded Library to iTunes Medial Organization. Now, every time when I consolidate a file into iTunes library and click to play the file right away, iTunes will cut off a part of the song name and replace a letter "O" at the end. It happened once to change all the song names in the same playlist, however I unable to pinpoint how did it happen.

Sounds like Windows Media Player is "fixing" the info in the ID3 tags for you.
When you play it in iTunes, it will update the library to match the ID3 tags, which is why it looks like iTunes is doing it.
In WMP, Tools -> Options -> Library.
Uncheck *Automatic media information updates for files*.
Any songs that WMP already messed with, you will need to add the info back.

  • ITunes changing song name!!

    I have about 100 songs in my library, half of which were purchased in the last week. Up until today, I haven't had any problems with the song names, artists, etc.
    However, while deciding what to listen to a few minutes ago, I noticed a song was named -pl that's all. I had to click on the song to play it, in order to hear what it was.
    I have looked everywhere in iTunes for a way to "rename" a song, but I can't find a way to do that. Is it even possible to rename a song?
    Why would iTunes just change the name of a song and give it such a stupid name?
    Has anyone else had any issues like this?
    Thanks for any help.
    JO

    Right click -> Get Info. Name it whatever you want.
    You can also rename a song by clicking the whole line once, wait a second, then click the song name again, and you can edit right in place. It's likely that you did this by accident without realizing it when your song got renamed to "-pl"/ Those three keys are right beside each other on the keyboard.

  • Importing m3u files in iTunes alters song name, how can I fix it?

    When I import an m3u file into iTunes, that refers to music that already exists in my library, it alters the "Name" of the song to be in the format "Track Number - Name" until I double click the song. Then iTunes refreshes the "Name" information from the file system and fixes it inside iTunes. This is fine, but the playlist has over 2000 songs in it and I don't want to spend the weekend clicking through all of them.
    Is there some way to automatically refresh all of the songs' "Name" data from the file system?

    Thanks for the suggestion, but that doesn't really do what I'm looking for. If I select multiple files, right click, and select Get Info, it just shows me the values that are in common for those files. For example, if I do it for a single artist, I see the artist name, but everything else is blank.
    It does not force a synchronization of the data in iTunes with the MP3 metadata in the file. However, if I play each file in iTunes individually, iTunes will update the "Name" with the actual information in the ID3 tag. Unfortunately, I don't have time to play all 2000+ files.

  • How do I create albums in iTunes, change song names/artist names, etc!!??

    Ack! Please help me! I am a total dummy and I have no clue how to use my iPod video 30GB. First, I connected iTunes and all my old songs (previously dl from kazaa and limewire) were transferred over, only since the sharers spelled the artist names differently, I have Led Zeppelin (and every other artist) spelled a million different ways so all of the songs are listed in my library separately.
    So, um, I need to know how I can at least manage my albums or whatever so that I can put all songs by one artist in one place and just name it something different, and also, if I do this in iTunes and then hook up my iPod will it automatically update to reflect these new categorizations? Also...if none of that is possible, how do I delete all of the songs from my iPod and iTunes so that I can try to arrange them differently in my music folder so that when they're imported into iTunes they can all be placed together more correctly?
    Could it have something to do with the fact that when I installed iTunes I selected the option to "Do it myself" rather than "iTunes do it for you" option when selecting the songs from my music folder? ANY help would be so so so greatly appreciated!!!!!

    In iTunes, right click on the song and go click on the selection 'get song info' (Or somthing like that, I`m not 100% sure, but i think it it similiar) and you can change what you want in there.

  • ITunes changes song name when song is playing

    I imported a CD that was made from a digitally downloaded album. When I did the import into iTunes, all the songs were imported as Track 1, Track 2, etc. I went into Get Info, Info tab, for each song and updated each song with the correct title. When I play any of these songs, the title will revert back to Track #. I do have my prefs set up to automatically retrieve CD track names from the internet. I'm running iTunes 9. Any ideas on what I can do to fix this?

  • Can anyone explain me why iTunes is just changing song names an messing up the order?

    I have different songs that I would like to upload onto the phone iOS 6.1.3
    So I copy the songe into a playlist in iTunes.
    Song names are
    whatever_xx-001
    whatever_xx-002
    whatever_xx-020
    what does iTunes? It just changes the song names and make a complete mess with the order of the songs:
    whatever xx 1
    whatever xx 20
    whatever xx 2
    My question is, if iTunes is not usable for copying numbered songs? I cannot imagine that this tool is so stupid? Or am I doing something wrong?
    Thank you for a hint.

    Now I look more carefully at your list, I see what you mean.
    iTunes does have a method for Artist sorting if the Sort fields are empty (as most of mine are), but offhand, I don't know much about it to be honest. The glaring issue in the your screenshot is Ministry Of Sound.
    If any of the other experienced contributors add to this thread (note the number of points they have) with better advice than I can offer, take it.
    In the meantime, start with the Ministry Of Sound and check the Sort Artist field. If you highlight everything by an artist, or a complete album, and select Get Info/Sorting, you see this view:
    and if you select just a single song, it's this view:
    I assume, unless you tell me otherwise, that the Ministry Of Sound entries will show something in there which is causing iTunes to put them in with the entries for A. Replace it with Ministry Of Sound. If the field is blank (which it will be if there are two different entries in your selection) simply type in Ministry Of Sound. Does that make any difference?
    If it does, then check your other entries to see what is causing the issue with them.
    You may find the the artist "Joey Bada$$" has been set to sort by Bada$$, Joey.
    This screenshot of my Artists column may explain why B.o.B is before Baauer:
    If you don't like it that way, change the entry in the Sort Artist field to suit you.

  • ITunes changes mp3 names

    I have a bunch of MP3 audios I purchased online and when I "Add To Library" iTunes changes the names of the files. This causes some problems because it gets the files out of order. Is there any way to import without iTunes changing the file names?

    The files are copied in to the iTune smedia folder and the filenames are change to the Name field of the ID3 tags.
    Rename it in iTunes and it will rename the file.

  • Having problem with change of name in the datagrid Coding

    I am having problem with changing the name of the datagrid header text name for one of the data either in the flash file or the php file.
    The thing is i want to change the Course_Name to Course Name that has no underscore so that it will look nicer in the datagrid but if I change it in the php file like SELECT Course_Name as 'Course Name' ....., it will not turn out in the datagrid when I CTRL ENTER the flash file but the others like Price,description and display is shown.
    There is no problem with my php code but I do not know how to change the Course_Name into Course Name so please help me resolve this error that I am having.
    This is my flash code
      function goCourse(e : MouseEvent):void
      gotoAndStop(5);
      refreshResponder = new Responder (refreshSuccess, onFault);
      connection = new NetConnection ();
      connection.connect (gateway);
      dataDG.addEventListener (Event.CHANGE, gridItemSelected);
      refreshData (true);
      function gridItemSelected (e: Event): void {
      ID = e.target.selectedItem.ID;
      courseTxt.text = e.target.selectedItem.Course_Name;
      priceTxt.text = e.target.selectedItem.Price;
      descTxt.text = e.target.selectedItem.Description;
      private function getParams () {
      var param: Object = new Object ();
      param.ID = ID;
      param.Course_Name = courseTxt.text;
      param.Price = priceTxt.text;
      param.Description = descTxt.text;
      return param;
      private function refreshData (refresh: Boolean): void {
      if (refresh)
      connection.call ("Course.viewCourse", refreshResponder);
      private function refreshSuccess (result: Object): void {
      dataDG.dataProvider = RecordSetDP.toDataProvider (result);
         dataDG.columns = ["Course_Name","Price","Description","Display"];
      private function onFault (fault: Object): void {
      trace (String (fault.description));
    This is my php file code.
      function viewCourse()
      $this->connect();
      $sql = "SELECT Course_Name,Price,Description,Display
      FROM coursetb";
      return mysql_query($sql,$this->_connection);

    i don't see where you're calling your php file in your code, but change 'Course Name' to 'Course_Name' (or vice-versa) there.

  • ITunes Changes iPhone Name

    In iTunes 12.0.1 when I connect my iPhone 4S running iOS 8.1.1 named Thom's iPhone 4S, iTunes changes the name to iPhone without me touching it.  It doesn't do it all the time but more than 50% of the time the name for my iPhone comes up as a generic iPhone rather than the name I have set for it.
    Is this happening to others?  Or is it a glitch in my iTunes installation?

    if you go into the summary page in itunes you can just click on the name of the phone and change it there

  • ITunes changes song's artist or Name to Xing, Has also deleted some totaly.

    I've uploaded a few CDs and Itunes has canged them to an abreviated Artist/song name and added Xing. The songs have no playtime (0:00) and they wont play (Example- System of a Down changed to SysXing)
    iTunes has also totaly deleted all of my Queens of the Stoneage CDs. This hasn't happened to any purchased music tho.

    That sounds odd.
    Do those CDs have any security warnings on the back?
    I almost bought a Santana CD today but it said it wasn't really a CD and might not play on some players.

  • Changing song names and adding album artwork

    Some of the songs that i imported into itunes by some artists, lets say for example "Less Than Jake" shows up as "less than jake" (uncapitalized) when i go to change the first letter which is an "l" to a capital "L" i successfully change the name in itunes and then when i am done changing ti and click on another song it just goes back to lower case
    does anyone know how to fix that so that the names that i fix stay fixed not just go back
    Another question that i have is some of my artists albums do not have album artwork and when i right click on the album and say get album artwork nothing happens. And i already registered with itunes store so its not that it wont get the album artwork because i didn't register with itunes. Is there anyway to copy the album picture from the internet and get it associated with that specific album in itunes anyway?
    ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED
    THANKS IN ADVANCE

      Windows XP Pro

    Greg,
    Are you just typing over the name as it appears in your iTunes library?
    I am not familiar with the Windows version, but in the Mac version, the best way to edit song title/artist/genre, etc is to select a song and then "Get Info" - in the Mac version that is under the "File" menu - a right click will probably work for you. There are several tabs on the Get Info screen - go to the "Info" tab and you will see what to do.
    As for album artwork, iTunes has been pretty good about finding artwork for for those albums which I purchased from the iTunes store, but was no help at all in finding art for the (many) albums I ripped from my CDs.
    You COULD find the album art yourself, using Google 'Images' but I think you will find it to be too tedious, and most of the album cover JPEGs you will find by that method are too small and of poor quality.
    It would be better to use a third party application. For Mac users I can recommend Fetch Art (http://members.cox.net/afriesen3//fetchart/index.html); I expect there is something similar for Windows, but I can't be specific.

  • How do I fix broken song files in iTunes with songs transferred from my iPod to my computer?

    Recently got a new computer but when I tried to transfer the files in My Music>iTunes to my new computer I realized that only about half the songs in my library have folders in the iTunes folder, even purchased songs (no idea why). I could download mp3s of every broken song and re-do it that way, but I would rather figure out a way to restore the files from my iPod and save a lot of time.
    I enabled disk use on my iPod and dragged the folders from iPod_control>Music to a folder on my desktop but the songs are all assigned random four letter names. I don't know if iTunes will be able to detect the right file to restore each song if I just direct it to this folder (using the prompt when you try to play the song), not to mention that the random songs are broken up into 49 separate folders so I would just have to randomly guess which folder to direct it to (I have 1993 songs). If I drag all the files into iTunes will it just create doubles of each song? I don't care about play counts, I don't know if that's stored in the song file, but it's not a big deal for me to replace all the songs in iTunes with the files from my iPod as long as all the files work.

    Thank you so much! I now know how to convert AIFF audio files to ACC files, and I can keep the original AIFF file! One other concern though -- how do I tell which is the bigger AIFF file and which is the new smaller ACC file? iTunes doesn't have an obvious place/window that tells me the audio file size. Is there a way to tell the two apart. It looks like it creates an identical file name, not even a "copy" extension or anything -- so it's impossible to tell them apart. Is there another secret here?

  • ITunes reverting song names

    iTunes seems to pick artists from my library and revert all their song names, which I spent hours renaming, to their previous and incorrect ones.
    I don't know if it happens before or when I try to update my iPod, but I always notice the change when I do because the incorrect song names pop up on the progress bar...
    Why is this happening and how can I stop it? ):

    There's a lot of people in the same situation than yours. Maybe one of the suggestions below may help you:

  • Won't let me change song name?

    I just imported the nutcracker soundtrack onto my itunes. I have tried to change the song names, as they were not listed (they were all listed as allegro, andante, etc). It won't let me change them to the proper names (Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, for example). The names show up fine at first, but when the song starts to play, it then reverts back to the old name. I'm not sure what to do.
