Consolidation hanged:HFM a/c movement

Hi,
we started march data consolidation. But we made some metadata changes for entity and custom dimension that we usually do. However, we also moved an a/c from one rollup to another rollup. usually consolidation takes 30 mins. But this time, the consolidation hanged.
I am not sure why the consolidation hanged. We usally move the a/c, entities and customs from one rollup to another rollup and it worked.
I just want to know what could ahve been the causes for this consolidation hanging.
1. Can a/cs moved from one rollup to another? what are the best practices?
2. If a/c movement is supported what could be the correct reason for my consolidation hanging?

In addition to my confusing baffle above would the below solution work?
If I setup an entity group total "G"- 100% ownership
Under this total I have the main trading company "A" - 51% owned by our group
then also under this "G" total another group "I" which will consolidate the 3 investment companies 100% owned by the main trading company "A" but give this group an ownership of 51% so that when I take the consolidated values of group "G" I only have my 51% iroll up into our group accounts.
So it will look like this in the entity hierarchy:
Consol group accounts
--G group
----A entity - 51% owned by Consol group
----I group
--------B entity - 100% owned by A
--------C entity - 100% owned by A
--------D entity - 100% owned by A
At the consol level I only want 51% of this new group. Can someone please confirm that if I allocate ownership to "A" entity and "I" Group 51% ownership then I will get the correct results.
Also, if we do not have management control of "A" entity do I also tag this as Associate as well as "I" group?

What's the right way to run a consolidation in HFM from FDM?

New to FDM. Things are working ok, but wondering what's the best way to run a consolidation in HFM after loading.

You need to create a validation entity.
On the validation entity, make sure you click the Consolidate check box. Then in integration settings, click Enable Consolidation. You need to also turn on the Force Calculate option. If this is a multicurrency app and you want translation to run, also enable the Force Translate option of the adaptor.

EBS best practices for consolidating in HFM

We are implementing Hyperion HFM and will us it for our consolidations.
What are the best practices or lessons learned for structuring, setting up, and processing in EBS R12 in order to assist consolidation in HFM to make it easier and smoother?

I guess you have to install again to ensure no problems. BP installation also involves ensuring correct SP levels (cannot be higher) for all software components.

Error opening Consolidation Administration/HFM App

We are receiving the following error trying to open Consolidation Administration or any of our HFM apps that were previously working just fine.
Any suggestions regarding the possible cause? We did re-boot the HFM app servers, and have re-started foundation services on our EPM servers with no success.
The following exception has occurred in DataControlFactoryImpl.createSession(): oracle.jbo.JboException with message: JBO-29000: Unexpected exception caught: oracle.adf.model.adapter.AdapterException, msg=DCA-29000: Unexpected exception caught: oracle.epm.fm.common.exception.HFMException, msg=Exception from HRESULT: 0x8004021A

Download hangs on certain podcasts, movies or songs

I have several podcasts and movies that will start downloading. Then the downloading stops. The banner at the top continues to flash that it is downloading but bar stops moving. After several seconds of no activity the download stops. I can start another download again and it will take off and hang on the same spot in the file. Any suggestions? I have three iPods and it happens with all three.

This is when you're downloading the podcasts/movies to your iPods, correct?
If this is the case, have you tried assigning each iPod a different drive letter? This may not be it, but the possibility is worth a try.
Log off of any other users on your computer (and disconnect any iPods that are currently connected to your computer, as well)
Then, put your iPod into Disk Mode, then follow these steps:
1 - Don’t plug in your iPod yet.
2 - Go to "START -> Control Panel -> Admin Tools (if you don't see this, click on "classic view" button on the left panel) -> Computer Management."
3 - Click on the "Disk Management" button in the left panel area.
4 - Now, with "Computer Management" and Control Panel windows opened, connect your iPod to the computer.
5 - Right-click on your iPod's listing there (after a few moments when it gets recognized in this drive window), and click on "Change Drive letter and Paths". Then the "Change..." button.
Here's what it should look like:
Assign your iPod the letter "M" "N", "O" or the like (further along in the alphabet).

Doing this with with all three iPods is the best, as opposed to only one of two of them. Be sure not cto connect the iPods simultaneously when doing this, and to also not assign the same letter to two different iPods.
If that doesn't work, have you tried turning off your firewall/internet security/spyware software, then try a sync with each iPod again?

CS6 Project - Hang on start up - Move Footage Fixed ?

I have tried searching for an answer to this one, but difficult to find an answer. It's a tricky one I think.
I have three projects with CS6. This problem, which is very worrying, is happening with two of them.
System has had no changes. WIn 7 64 BIt, 16 GIG Ram. Tons of storage on video and system drives.
Project complete and edited. Once I reload project. Its hangs. Just sit there and crash. The project consist of a three camera edit.
If I move rename the source Camera 1 video files to a new name, reload project, CS6 ask for ne wlocation. I point to the renamed folder. The project opens find.
This is a temp fix, I'm pretty scared that one day the project wont open! :-(
I'm pretty sure all all to do with the Media Cache folder.
Recently I moved this to a different drive, as i thought it would help with CS6 Multi-Cam editing performance (it didn't).

Also we need to check if there is any latest graphics card driver available for graphics card in the computer.
Once launched , then we can use the project archiver to export the project to a different location.
Seems like a corrupt sequence or so, Can be also fixed by nested sequence to save this project.

IMovie11 start but after few secont hangs trying find iPhoto movie

I'm asking help, I had upgraded from a iLife 09 perfectly working , to iLife 11 and now it don't work. iMovie doesn't work it hangs at startup trying to read the iPhoto database searching for movie...if I remove the iPhoto database it wortks. Any suggestion? Thanks in advance.

Numbers hangs when trying to move rows.

Numbers hangs with the comment 'Preparing to paste....' when I try to move rows. When I click on the screen it goes blank and nothing else happens.
I don't appear to have any formulas or references in the spreadsheet that might 'upset' the program. Can anyone help?

Numbers does not handle large tables well.
up to GL in the columns is 194 columns (numbering the columns by adding 1 to the preceding column number, and hiding most columns to make the table fit into a smaller screen shot):
194 columns times 35 rows = 6790 cells.
Is there some way to reorganise your data into several small tables?

P45 Neo2-FR hangs during large file moves

Hello all,
I have a newly built system that I moved my old XP install onto. ( Removed old Video and hardware drivers then did a repair install on the new hardware. ) That process appears to have been successful. The system runs normally most of the time, including resource heavy 3D apps like SecondLife. I have also accumulated over 32 hours running memtest86 with no errors found. ( a 24 hours session and an 8+ hour one. )
During the upgrade/rebuild I backed up almost 0.5TB of data onto an external drive and I'm not trying to move those files onto the new RAID array or a partition on the main hard drive. During any large copy operation, the system locks up. It's usually several minutes into the copy, and a hard reset is required to recover. The external drive is formatted to FAT32, so I've already addressed file size limitations as I copied the data to the external. The external drive is USB/Firewire/eSATA, but so far I've only used USB on the new hardware due to a lack of cables.
Anyone seen something like this before ? I'd really like to get the files back onto my internal drives. The external is a loaner from a friend, so there's a little time pressure. Any help will be appreciated.

Update on this. I have not done a reinstall to date since I don't have a spare hard drive on which to do so.
However, I can eliminate a windows or driver problem from the list. I see exactly the same symptoms - random hangs of the machine - under Ubuntu 8 as well as windows. The Linux install is clean from a downloaded image and updated as recommended by the package manager.
It seems that the most likely time for the system to hang is during periods of intense IO activity. I had thought it was large file copies because that was what I was doing a lot of at the time of my original post.
I have tried moving my video card to the first PCI-X slot. No change.
I have removed 2 of the 4 memory modules, leaving 2x2Gb installed in bank 0. No change.
I have added extra fans - a large on on the side of the hard drive bay ( The case is an Antec Sonata III ) and a smaller fan aimed at the memory. No change.
I am using the J-micron Raid controller - is this still problematic ? I seem to recall some mentions of this.
Any suggestions to help isolate the problem would be appreciated.

Adobe Media Encoder CS6 hangs while encoding Quicktime movies

Every day I am enoding 2-3 videos 15-40 min long with AME CS6 and every second day it freezes or slows down to almost zero. The source material is mostly Quicktime ProRes 422 LT 1080 25p or Quicktime XDCAM EX 1080 25p. Target files are H264 videos in different sizes. The workstation is a MacPro 5.1 Xeon 8core, 12GB Ram and Nvidia Quadro 4000 with OSX 10.8.2. Only restart of the computer helps but just for a while then it slows down or freezes again. I am also using Davinci Resolve 9 lite which is sometimes not able to adress the QTencoder when AME is open ... ?

I think it is a problem of Adobe QT32 Server. Adobe Media Encoder is encoding all Quicktime Movies through this Adobe QT32 Server, which is somehow the link between Adobe and Quicktime. But since Adobe QT32 Server is a 32bit application and Adobe Media Encoder a 64bit application it somehow blocks the Media Encoder. And if you have other applications running which somehow try to use Quicktime codec when Media Encoder is using the Adobe QT32 Server than everything slows down or collapses. These are my observations so far. I avoid any other video application as long as AME is open. For example: I close Davinci Resolve when I want to launch AME and close AME when I want to launch Davinci Resolve. This helps so far.

Pre10 crashes, hangs, and "Error compiling movie. Unknown error."

I'm using Premiere Elements 10.0 and an am having a lot of trouble. On a simple project (just half a dozen video clips with audio and some DVD menu stuff) I din't have much trouble. However my bigger project (which is the reason I bought PRE10) isn't working well at all. My pc specs are at the bottom of the post.
Issue 1. about a third of the time, when starting PRE10, the opening welcome screen comes up, I hit 'Open Project', it start to load, then gets an error. With this error I also get an entry in windows event viewer, application log of: Faulting application adobe premiere elements.exe, version 10.0.0.0, faulting module gdiplus.dll, version 5.2.6002.22509, fault address 0x0000f47d.
If I get past that bug, the PRE sometimes just freezes up (a couple times with the audio track still playing, but otherwise frozen).
After many frustrating hours, I think I'm close to having my project complete, and now PRE won't render and create a file. I've tried just a short snippet, or the entire thing - either way it renders for a while (just a few minutes), then gives the subject line error message - "Unknown error" isn't very helpful!   Once, after getting this error an I let it sit there a whle, it then gave the same gdipluss.dll fault that I typically see on startup.
I'd love to have all of these issues solved, but I most important thing is being about to get some sort of output! I've tried a variety of output format, all do the same thing (mpeg2, avchd, dvd, hdtv, etc.)

- mostly a single video track with audio, sometimes a second video track layered on top
- narration track in .wav format
- soundtrack in .wav format
- roughly 30 minutes long
- video files are coming off of the external usb 500GB drive
- I've played with setting the rendering location to the mostly empty E: drive or the mostly full C: drive - no difference

For the Project Settings, choose Edit>Project Settings, and you can see them all, with the General Tab (most important), Capture (should not affect your Project), Video Rendering (again, should not have much info for you now), and Default Timeline (defines how the Timeline is set up initially, and not of any real use here).
Now, and with the Source Files and Project on your E:\, or your external HDD, how much free-space is on your C:\. That can be very important, especially as with only 2GB RAM, you WILL be using your Windows Page File (Virtual Memory) often, and heavily.
Now, though this is covered in one of the links in the PrE Crashing & Hanging article (Memory & Resources), how is your Page File managed, and is it located on your C:\?
Also, is your Project file (the PREL) located with the Source Files, on either E:\, or your external HDD? I know that you have tried several locations. Also, where are your Scratch Disks (Edit>Preferences) set to? Those can be very large, and if one has them pointed to a nearly full HDD, can crash things.
Last, at least for now, is your F:\ your external HDD? If so, it is formatted FAT-32, and that limits file sizes to ~ 4GB. This ARTICLE will tell you how to Convert a FAT-32 HDD to NTSF.

I get the spinning beach ball when using the move file command in bridge. Any suggestions on how to resolve this? Both before and after Bridge Update from 4.0.0 to 4.0.4

General consolidation questions - HFM

1. Is it possible to consolidate in one application according to 2 different gaap's? IFRS, US GAAP?If it's in 2 application what is the way to connect between the application?
2.is it possible to consolidate the hierarchy with 2 currencies, where the data is saved? do we need different scenario? different hierarchy? different application?
3.if we want to create journals in <Parent currency adj> is there a way to copy the journals automatically to all the hierarchies?

1. How are you separating the gaaps? If you have a different entity structure, then the answer is yes and it is very easy. If you need to do some custom consolidation, then you will need to write your own consolidation method in the rule file and it becomes complicated quickly.
2. If you run a force translate after you consolidate, then you can look at any entity in any currency.
3. If you do an entry in Parent Curr Adjs, the entry applies to the entity in every hierarchy.

I made a movie in imovie, and somehow I consolidated media and now my movie is saved to my desktop but won't play. HELP!

I made an imovie. And then when I was trying to save it and burn it to a disk I chose "consolidate media". Now its on a disk and my desktop, but its not showing media or playing. How do I fix this?! Please tell me there is a way to "expand".... Help please!

iMovie will not "see" a project unless it is in the Movies/iMovie Projects/ folder on the internal drive. It can also be in the iMovie Projects folder at the top level of an external drive.
You will want to move your RCPROJECT file back to the iMovie Projects folder in the drive it was in when it last worked correctly. Then restart iMovie.
