[Consolidation-Locked] Lightroom 4 edit in problem

I purchased Lightroom 4 upgrade, installed it, converted my catalog, and set the preferences for "edit in" another application to Photoshop Elements 9. This works fine in Lightroom 3, but when I try to send aa photo from Lightroom 4 to Elements, nothing happens. No window to select the options, no lau=nch of Elements. Any ideas as to what is wrong? Anybody else having this problem?

PROBLEM SOLVED:
I fixed the problem ("Edit in" not working in Lightroom 4 on my Windows 7 machine). Here's what I did:
I found this page about a similar problem in LR3, "Edit In Photoshop Command Missing | Photoshop Lightroom."
I followed the instructions under "Solution 2: Recreate the Photoshop.exe application path registry key."
By default, the 64-bit version of Photoshop CS5.1 is installed here (copy and paste this in the Value Field mentioned in step 10): C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS5.1 (64 Bit)\photoshop.exe .
I skipped steps 13 through 16 since there was no "Path value" listed for this registry key.
Once I closed the registry editor and re-started Lightroom 4, all of the Edit in options were avaialble and they worked! Yippee!

  • [Consolidation-Locked] Lightroom 4.1 Performance

hello my lightroom 4.1 copy is so slow, in the develop module when switching between raw files the "loading" logo keeps spinning for a long time before I can edit the file, and the same happens when I click on the image to zoom in, takes forever to do so.
    I run windows 7 64 bit
    Xeon 16 core 2.4 gb
    32 gb ram
the OS and the raw files are on two seperate sata 6 SSD drives
theres is no way  it should be so slow to simply switch from raw files or zoom in?
Even in loupe mode when clicking on a file to zoom it takes forever.
Photoshop cs6 camera raw does not show performance issues, when importing the same raw image in photoshop zooming in is immediate instead of many many seconds in lightroom.
I tried the optimization suggestion by adobe, setting the camera raw cache to more than 10gb, optimizing the catalog etc... but nothing changes. (http://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/optimize-performance-lightroom.html)
If you have any suggestion I am very interested because at the moment it is very frustating to use the software

Hello All, finished a chat today with Adobe help. Thought I would post this info for those having the same trouble. For reference, my specs for the new machine I built are:
Win7, 64-bit; 16GB ram; 4-core AMD Phenom processor 3.2 GHz; SSD with Win, Photoshop & LightRoom installed on it; Nvidia GeForce 560 1GB; photos on secondary drive. CS5 12.1x64, LR4.1 CR 7.1
Installed 4.1 updated viseo drivers, tried all the "remedies" such as enlarging & clearing the cache, etc. Nothing worked. LR was SLOW SLOW, taking 5-9 seconds to be load and accept adjustments each time I selected a new image to adjust (no big deal for 10-20 images, but for 800 image weddings from 2 cameras, quite a long time to wait on the computer!!!) Called Adobe, they said they were aware of performance issues on some machines, and were working on it.
Got on Adobe chat help today. The following is the conversation, with superfluous comments etc. edited out. The simple procedure sped my LR performance up by at least 60-70% in my estimate. Amen.
I do not surf the forums, and this is only my second post ever, so please don't expect me to answer questions right away, though I'm sure others will. I am just posting this conversation so that others might try the same, and maybe it will help them. Good luck!
Help Chat with Adobe's "William", June 11, 2012:
William: I understand that you're experiencing performance issue. Am I correct?
    Jojo: Oh yes
William: Please close all windows except this chat window.
    William: Click on Start button.
William: Type %appdata% in the search box and press Enter.
William: Double click on Adobe folder.
William: Check for the folder of Lightroom and rename it to "OldLightroom".
    William: Click on Start button.
William: Type %temp% and press Enter.
William: It will open Temp folder.
William: Empty the files and folders inside it.
Jojo: ok done. it still has files that could not be deleted for Win Explorer and Google Chrome (the browser I use)
    William: Okay.
William: Launch Lightroom and check if you're getting the same issue.
Jojo: that seems to have sped it up significant;y
    William: Perfect.
William: Please double check if that works fine now.
Jojo: Much faster, but all of my presets are gone
    Jojo: Export presets, etc
William: It was due to corrupt preference that was causing this issue.
    William: Close Lightroom.
    William: Click on Start button.
William: Type %appdata% in the search box and press Enter.
William: Double click on Adobe folder.
William: Check for the folder of Lightroom and rename it to "2OldLightroom".
William: Now check for the folder "OldLightroom" and rename it to ""Lightroom".
William: After that open Preferences folder inside it.
William: Check for the file "Lightroom 4 Preferences.agprefs" and rename it to "OldLightroom 4 Preferences.agprefs".
William: Launch Lightroom and check if that works fine for you.
Jojo: Oh yes, that's working well!
    William: Perfect.
    Jojo: Much better!
William: You can start working with the product smoothly now.
    William: Great.
William: I'm happy to help you.
Jojo: Hey, are they fixing this in a release? I know a lot of photographers who are VERY upset about this performance issue
Jojo: I was ready to change back to LR3
William: Corrupt preference may cause Lightroom to work slow.
William: We renamed the preference file and it is working fine.

  • [Consolidation-Locked] Lightroom 4 on XP

Lightroom 4 comes with a 32 and 64 bit install but does not install under XP.  Lightroom 3.6 supports XP.
WE SHOULD HAVE BEEN WARNED BEFORE YOU ACCEPTED PAYMENT FOR THE UPGRADE.
Fortunately, I was able to upgrade on a laptop (Windows 7 64 bit) but the display is not optimal (my desktop XP is much better).
Do you contemplate recompiling the product for Windows XP?
Message title was edited by: Brett N

Jeff & Selmslie, thank you so much for the answers.
Let me describe my use case, maybe the product team can learn something from it.
I am a fine art photographer, I am shooting in big cities, e.g. I am frequently travelling to NYC, Chicago, Houston, etc. Usually I do about 300 pictures on a typical shooting day, but on some days it can be as many as 800. Therefore, I travel with a laptop and process, tag and backup photographs on the same day. Lightroom is a central piece of my workflow - without lightroom it just won't be possible to work through so many pictures.
I have a powerful laptop with a large screen that is 5 years old, it runs XP and it has 4GB of RAM which is its maximum.
Upgrading to Win 7 is not an option for several reasons. I just cannot allow an OS kernel which is 5 times bigger than XP's kernel because I really need this memory for Lighroom and Photoshop and my huge photographs (100 to 200MB PSD files). Besides that, I would need to spend weeks for reinstalling and setting up all my software.
Upgrading the computer is not an option as well. Most of my pictures are vertical, e.g. I will need at least 1000 pixels screen height (my current one has 1050) and a minimum 8GB of RAM.  Quoting such a laptop on dell.com will quickly get  you to well above 1000 bucks, plus second battery, backup device (DVD writer or BluRay), docking station, etc - will be around 2K USD. I cannot do it just for the Lightroom.
At some point in the future I will probably need a higher resolution camera and at that point I will have to upgrade the laptop, because I will produce bigger files. Computers will be more powerful at that time, so there is no sense to upgrade the machine now just for the Lightroom. Until that time I will stay with my XP.
Now, I am using lighroom since its launch back in 2007. I even enjoyed a 1st week discount from adobe, dedicated to "early adopters and active beta testers". ;-)
Today  I'm running Lightroom 1.4.1 and it's very unstable with my 40000-pictures library. Sometimes it crashes and sometimes it says "out of memory".
I tried LR 2.0 and it was very slow. Version 3 was supposed to have a huge performance improvement and it does. I have installed 3.6 in demo mode last Friday and it works OK. When  and I click "buy", it gets me to the page selling version 4, which won't run on my XP. Too disappointing. Now you're saying I have to find some reseller that hopefully will be able to sell me an upgrade.
If I'd would do it a couple of weeks ago before lightroom 4 announcement, I would be happy by now with the $80 upgrade via adobe web site. Instead, I have to find some reseller. Well, if I can find a reseller whom I can paypal USD 80 and get a serial number back - I'm OK. If you know one - please suggest. Otherwise, I'll just stay with 1.4.1 until some future time when I'll maybe upgrade the machine.
I just wonder why not just issue a serial number for 3.6 when I already have it installed? Why not make version 4.0 serial number valid for version 3.6?
I worked for Microsoft full time for 4 years, two of them being PM, managing localization of Microsoft Security Essentials (home antivirus) and Forefront corporate antivirus. So I perfectly understand what is test matrix and how much it costs to support an extra OS, so no claims here. I just wonder why I can't use version 4 serial number for 3.6 or continue buying version 3.6 serial from adobe with the same ease as I can do it for 4.0.
Five weeks ago it was possible to upgrade automatically via the web site. But five weeks ago I was too busy preparing for the FotoFest 2012 in Houston. I am telling you so much detail just to make a point that fine art photographers also have time constraints and cannot upgrade software and computers at a schedule dictated by software companies. There at Microsoft we used 'case studies' to describe real customers, their computing routines and habits. I hope that my little case study will help you better understand photographer's needs and constraints.
And I also hope that you'll help me find a simple way to get a valid serial number for my already-installed Lightroom 3.6 (demo more) on XP to convert it to full mode.
    Thank you so much,
    Gennady

  • Lightroom edit in problem in photoshop

In Lightroom 5.7 CC, I experience "edit in" problem when I open a file (PSD, TIF or JPEG) to Photoshop CC.
    The following message is displayed:
"Some of the application components are missing from the Application directory, Please reinstall the application."
Both ACR have the same verso (8.7).
Both Photoshop CC and Lightroom CC are up to date
Any idea what is the problem ?
    JP

When I define a second external editor into the Lightroom preference, pointing to the same Photoshop.app, everything work fine. It looks like Lightroom cannot set automatically the existing Photoshop CC as the primary external editor during the installation process.

Why am I not able to export NEF files to Photoshop from Lightroom to edit. This is new. When I right click on an image, the export to PS option is not selectable. I've never had this happen before. I haven't used it for a few weeks, so maybe there's an update (Mac or otherwise) that's screwing things up? HELP!

I have an Edit In - Photoshop option, but not an Export - Photoshop option.
Obviously to have right-click Edit In to work, the photo you're right-clicking on needs to be selected.  I assume this is not the problem, and that the photo is selected.
Mavericks 10.9.3 has a problem where the Users folder is hidden, and you need to update iTunes to fix it, but it's been a few weeks since this happened so hopefully you're up-to-date and the Users folder isn't hidden anymore.
If you can't get things to work, I'd uninstall LR and uninstall Photoshop, then install Photoshop, and update it, then install LR and update it, as a way to get any wayward security or other OS-level things reset.

  • LIGHTROOM 3.3 REINSTALLATION PROBLEM

Hi, LIGHTROOM 3.3 REINSTALLATION PROBLEM. I had an operating system problem with my pc. A friend took an image of my disc. I have the computer running again now but I dont have any of my Loghtroom edits. I was advised to get a .lrc (or something) file but that only had a copy of the very first backup that I did. I didn't backup using the Lightroom backup that pops up when closing te program. How can I retrieve all my edits, it amounts to many, many hundreds of hours work? I'd be very greatful of some help.

Thanks guys. I cant even find the disc image file so I am going to have to wait till me mate gets back from overseas to do any more.
I still have my image files but I am really worried about the edits. That is a heap of work. and I have sold heaps of images, I'm screwed if I get asked for a second copy, or anything for that matter.
My email address is [email protected] do you mind if I contact you directly? John is not due bak in OZ for a few weeks yet, then he's going to Japan for a couple of months.

  • Lightroom: in edit mode capabilities disapeared?

Lightroom: in edit mode capabilities to modify disapeared: firs to do the sharpening and then contrast… ? How can I get all functions back?

    Dear Larry and Terence,
    Love you guys!
Okay, I now understand that iPhoto is continually re-modifying my portrait shots, following the flags my camera is applying. So the real test of whether going into Edit Mode modifies JPEGS comes with landscape images. So, I do this:
    1) Choose a definitively un-modified landscape JPEG
    2) Open it in Edit Mode
    3) Zoom
    4) Click Done and return to View Mode
    5) Check for the "Revert to Original" option
    6) Find it is not enabled
    7) Breath sigh of relief
    8) Bow to the wisdom of the Mac Gurus
Hooray! As it should be, no degradation of JPEGS here. I'm still annoyed that I have to go into Edit Mode to zoom in on images in the first place, but then I'm annoyed by having to watch my calories to avoid getting pudgy, so I can't blame Apple for all my problems.
Thank you again. Oh, and I'd love to give you both "solved" points, but I can't, so I gave Larry a "helpful" first and will give Terence a "solved" now. Not fair, Larry, I know. Sorry. But you know you both rule.

Why does my RAW image look grainy when I export it in to Photoshop CC from Lightroom for editing?
Checked LR's setting for Ps export and they haven't changed since it was OK a few days ago? It is OK if you zoom in but in 'fit page' it looks terrible!

  • Adobe Photoshop Lightroom has encountered a problem and needs to close. (ver 1.4.1)

I completed a search for this problem here and other forums, and found very useful information, however, I still need help. My laptop is an HP Pavillion dv1000, Intel Centrino, Windows XP, 1.24G of RAM; Camera is a Canon 5D, shooting JPEG only.
After a couple of weeks enjoying a vacation in the Caribbean, it was time to load all the new pics in the computer. I removed the card from my camera and using windows explorer, downloaded all pics in MyPictures folder. I created a new folder for this trip, and while I was there, I decided to reorganize several folders from previous trips. I renamed and moved folders around, deleted pictures, etc. (I believe that all the changes that I made created my problem.)
Once I finished all the changes with my folders, I launched Lightroom (ver 1.4.1) with the idea of synchronizing the folders and start working on my new pictures. After apx 8 seconds, I got the message: Adobe Photoshop Lightroom has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconvenience.
After a google search, I found a lot of potential answers to my problem, including this one, which I tried:
"It might also be worth trying a temporary test catalog, just to see whether it's specific to that catalog. To do so, go to File menu > New Catalog and create a new catalog somewhere easy - Desktop perhaps - and just try importing a few photos into that test catalog and see if you can get it to freeze. I'm wondering if the catalog's been damaged slightly by that initial unexpected close, and if so, we'll see if we can get that sorted out for you."
I did exactly that (created a test catalog) and I don't get the error. I am not clear on what does that mean. Could you help me understand it? What do I need to do to use my old catalog? Is it damaged? How can I fix it? Did I loose all the work that I did in my previous pictures?
If I go back to my original catalog, I still get the error.
Thank you in advanced for your assistance.
    Tony

    Tony,
    Here's something you might try:
Create a new, empty catalogue and try File->Import from catalog... and specify your broken one as input. With luck the damage will be left behind.
If that doesn't work, try deleting or renaming your preferences file. Look here for its location.
And if that doesn't work, try deleting or renaming your presets folder. See that same website for details.
Let us know how you make out.
    Hal

  • Lightroom 3.2 Installation Problem on Windows 7 64-bit

Lightroom 3.2 Installation Problem on Windows 7 64-bit
I can't install Lightroom 3.2 (German) on my computer (Windows 7 Professional 64-bit).
While copying the extracted program files the following error message appears:
An error occurred during the installation of assembly component {6435B7C0-E0C8-3EA2-91AE-7640034EAFCE}. HRESULT: 0x80070002.
I found out that other users had the same problem, and couldn't find a solution.
Perhaps it is a Microsoft .NET Framework related problem. But after installing .NET Framework 4 nothing changed.
Thanks for ideas to solve the problem.

Thanks for your advice, Mr. McLion.
I downloaded the 3.4.1 version and started the installation as administrator. Unfortunately the same error message occured again.
Then I tried to install the 32-bit version (although I prefer a 64-bit program on a 64-bit operating system). A similar error message appeared at the same point of installation progress, but with another combination of numbers and letters in brackets.

Hello My ipads Power button is not working properly when I press it once it shows option to turn off instead of locking and some other display problems like it suddenly lockes down or display disappears ...Please help. Thank You

    Thanks for that information!
I'm sure I will be calling AppleCare, but the problem is, they charge for the phone calls don't they? Because I don't have money to be spending to be on the phone with a support service.
In other things, it seemed like the only time my MacBook was working was when I had Snow Leopard without the 10.6.8 update download that was supposed to be done to prepare for OS X Lion.
When I look at the information of my HD it says that I have 10.6.8 but that was the install that it claimed to have failed and caused me to restart resulting in all of the repeated problems.
Also, because my computer is currently down, and I've lost all files how would that effect the use of my iPhone? Because if it doesn't get fixed by the time OS 5 is released, how would I be able to upgrade?!

Here is a snippet from a discussion on another forum that includes a quote from Jeff Schewe, whom I consider to be a very good source for reliable information:
Look, I'll make it REAL simple...
    TIFF = Good
    PSD = Bad
PSD is now a bastardized file format that is NOT a good idea to use. Even the Photoshop engineers will tell you that PSD is no longer the Photoshop "native" file format. It has no advantages and many disadvantages over TIFF.
TIFF is publicly documented, PSD is not. That makes TIFF a preferred file format for the long term conservation of digital files.
And, let me be blunt, anybody who thinks PSD is "better" than TIFF is ignorant of the facts. If Adobewould let them, the Photoshop engineers would tell you to quit using PSD.
