[Consolidation-Locked] Nikon D 600

Anyone out there can see the NEF files for the D 600?  Do you know when Adobe will update to allow work on these files?

Support was introduced in LR 4.2 and ACR 7.2 on Oct 2, 2012.
If you are not using LR 4 or PS CS6 then you can convert your .nef files to .dng using the Adobe DNG converter V 7.2, which is available for free on the Adobe web site, this will allow the .dng files to be processed using earlier versions of Lightroom and Adobe Camera Raw.

I'll take that bet, Butch - I've been in the Capture One club for a long time, and they do take their time with stuff like this.
Bear in mind too that you only get any tethering support if you use the $299 Capture One Pro - the stripped-down (at $99, closer to Lr's price of $149) Capture One Express has no tethering support whatsoever.
And with either Cap One product, you've got to put your hand in your pocket again for a DAM solution.
    You lose! ... as of Jul 17, 2012 ...

Keep in mind my reference to C1 was not that it was a direct competior or exact match to Lightroom ... or Aperture for that matter ... but all three apps claim to offer support for tethering ... and thus far Adobe has failed to make the effort and produce an update ...
At this point in time Apple supports tethering for 60 camera and C1 supports more than that spanning five different brands ...
I take no pleasure in gloating I was right on this wager ... rather I am quite disappointed that Adobe (as well as several of my fellow Lightroom users) feel tethering is too unimportant to maintain ... yet Apple (and Phase One) didn't feel my needs were quite so insignificant ...

  • [Consolidation-Locked] Nikon D600 Support

Hi, I have just recently purchased Nikon D600, and at the same time I found out that it is not supported by Adobe as of yet. My question is, when could I expect Adobe to release some type of an update to fix this issue?

Rob, my reading of your site is that this plug-in copies settings from raw to jpeg, does it work the other way around as well?

One of the great things about the new 0-based defaults and linear tone curve is:
You can develop the jpegs now, in Lightroom, and then sync the settings to the raws later (e.g. using RawPlusJpeg), and provided you select a matching camera profile, they will look almost the same (white balance won't translate over, but everything else will, more or less). Beware lens corrections applied to the raws might alter the registration of precision local adjustments.
Note: I recommend shooting with ADL off in order for this to work better, and consider turning sharpening off in camera as well, and noise reduction and everything else to whatever extent is possible.

  • [Consolidation-Locked] Any Possibility the Nikon D600 Will Be in Next Release Lightroom Candidate?

Hello I just preordered the Nikon D600 and unbelievably it will be here next week some time.
My question is how long after it comes out before Lightroom 4 supports the raw file? I know its short notice but is there any chance that it will be in the next release candidate (4.2 I think is the next one?)
Is there a temporary workaround to edit the images in LR until an official support happens? for example can you save the D600 raw (.NEF) to a .DNG to import it into LR4?
Thanks for your time, I am looking forward to this camera but I cannot live without LR4:)

...Adobe do state in the release notes that their may be more camera specs in the finalised version than in the RC. Nikon's own nx2 doesn't have an update yet (v2.3.4).
Nikon is doing a much faster release here than they have historically done so you might have to wait a while. AFAIK, neither Nikon nor Canon really shares any info with Adobe and Adobe has to buy a camera like everybody else to analyse the raw files and profile the camera. They need more info than just the file format. The file format is actually easy since .nef is just a tiff file in sheep's clothing. Dcraw probably reads them already for this reason(no D600 raw file to test so I can't check yet). They are easy to read apart from the files from the short period where Nikon decided to obfuscate the white balance info but that's long ago. It is the profiling of the color response of the camera that is the hard part for Adobe and the LR 4.2 release might be too close to get it in. Again, if you live on the bleeding edge you might get cut (or have to wait a few months for Lightroom support of your new camera).
I read online that NX2 already supports the D600 nef files.

  • Is there currently a Camera Raw Plug-in for Photoshop CS for the Nikon d-600 ? tryed downloading version 7.3 but did not work

Is there currently a Camera raw plug in that supports the d-600 ? I tried downloading the 7.3 version and it didn't work !

You have photoshop cs (photoshop 8) circa 2003?
If so, which operating system are you using?
In addition to upgrading to photoshop cs6 or subscribing to the creative cloud, you can probably use the Adobe DNG Converter to convert your nikon D600 nefs to dng copies, which should then open in photoshop cs.
You need to have the 2.4 camera raw plugin for dngs to work in photoshop cs.

Sorry to butt in. We used to double-shoot, too, but after a couple of years we discovered it was unnecessary when using both Aperture and Lightroom. Your workflow will be different from ours of course, and one does what one needs to do. We found the duplicate images were tedious and, even though they were quite small compared to the NEFs, they occupied a lot of space that was needlessly redundant. The Mac (or PC) is so instantly responsive that the NEF is offered up quickly so the jpg has no real purpose.

  • [Consolidation-Locked] D4 & D800 Tethered Capture

Anyone have any idea if or when tethered capture support for the Nikon D800 & D4 will be added to LR 4?

This is a user forum.  None of us know any more about what or when anything will be supported than you do.  Adobe does not make such announcements, probably to avoid disappointment if there are delays.  Until the support you are looking for is there, just accept the fact that it isn't there.  I know, it isn't fair, Adobe should tell, why cant Adobe, etc., etc..  It has been said before, and it will be said again.  But it won't do any good.

  • [Consolidation-Locked] Lightroom 4.1 Performance

hello my lightroom 4.1 copy is so slow, in the develop module when switching between raw files the "loading" logo keeps spinning for a long time before I can edit the file, and the same happens when I click on the image to zoom in, takes forever to do so.
    I run windows 7 64 bit
    Xeon 16 core 2.4 gb
    32 gb ram
the OS and the raw files are on two seperate sata 6 SSD drives
theres is no way  it should be so slow to simply switch from raw files or zoom in?
Even in loupe mode when clicking on a file to zoom it takes forever.
Photoshop cs6 camera raw does not show performance issues, when importing the same raw image in photoshop zooming in is immediate instead of many many seconds in lightroom.
I tried the optimization suggestion by adobe, setting the camera raw cache to more than 10gb, optimizing the catalog etc... but nothing changes. (http://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/optimize-performance-lightroom.html)
If you have any suggestion I am very interested because at the moment it is very frustating to use the software

Hello All, finished a chat today with Adobe help. Thought I would post this info for those having the same trouble. For reference, my specs for the new machine I built are:
Win7, 64-bit; 16GB ram; 4-core AMD Phenom processor 3.2 GHz; SSD with Win, Photoshop & LightRoom installed on it; Nvidia GeForce 560 1GB; photos on secondary drive. CS5 12.1x64, LR4.1 CR 7.1
Installed 4.1 updated viseo drivers, tried all the "remedies" such as enlarging & clearing the cache, etc. Nothing worked. LR was SLOW SLOW, taking 5-9 seconds to be load and accept adjustments each time I selected a new image to adjust (no big deal for 10-20 images, but for 800 image weddings from 2 cameras, quite a long time to wait on the computer!!!) Called Adobe, they said they were aware of performance issues on some machines, and were working on it.
Got on Adobe chat help today. The following is the conversation, with superfluous comments etc. edited out. The simple procedure sped my LR performance up by at least 60-70% in my estimate. Amen.
I do not surf the forums, and this is only my second post ever, so please don't expect me to answer questions right away, though I'm sure others will. I am just posting this conversation so that others might try the same, and maybe it will help them. Good luck!
Help Chat with Adobe's "William", June 11, 2012:
William: I understand that you're experiencing performance issue. Am I correct?
    Jojo: Oh yes
William: Please close all windows except this chat window.
    William: Click on Start button.
William: Type %appdata% in the search box and press Enter.
William: Double click on Adobe folder.
William: Check for the folder of Lightroom and rename it to "OldLightroom".
    William: Click on Start button.
William: Type %temp% and press Enter.
William: It will open Temp folder.
William: Empty the files and folders inside it.
Jojo: ok done. it still has files that could not be deleted for Win Explorer and Google Chrome (the browser I use)
    William: Okay.
William: Launch Lightroom and check if you're getting the same issue.
Jojo: that seems to have sped it up significant;y
    William: Perfect.
William: Please double check if that works fine now.
Jojo: Much faster, but all of my presets are gone
    Jojo: Export presets, etc
William: It was due to corrupt preference that was causing this issue.
    William: Close Lightroom.
    William: Click on Start button.
William: Type %appdata% in the search box and press Enter.
William: Double click on Adobe folder.
William: Check for the folder of Lightroom and rename it to "2OldLightroom".
William: Now check for the folder "OldLightroom" and rename it to ""Lightroom".
William: After that open Preferences folder inside it.
William: Check for the file "Lightroom 4 Preferences.agprefs" and rename it to "OldLightroom 4 Preferences.agprefs".
William: Launch Lightroom and check if that works fine for you.
Jojo: Oh yes, that's working well!
    William: Perfect.
    Jojo: Much better!
William: You can start working with the product smoothly now.
    William: Great.
William: I'm happy to help you.
Jojo: Hey, are they fixing this in a release? I know a lot of photographers who are VERY upset about this performance issue
Jojo: I was ready to change back to LR3
William: Corrupt preference may cause Lightroom to work slow.
William: We renamed the preference file and it is working fine.

  • Unable to open raw files in cs5 after updating my camera to nikon d 600

I dont want to update to cs 6 but my raw files wont open with cs5  and also I dont want to use dng converter slowes everything down, what should i do pls help

A D600 requires ACR 7.3.  So that means an upgrade or subscription to CC unless you want a DNG.
As I understand it if you upgrade to the CS6 licence all future ACR versions will be read (currently 8.2)  BUT this will be ACR lite as it will not include enhancements.
