[Consolidation-Locked] Nikon D600 Support

Hi, I have just recently purchased Nikon D600, and at the same time I found out that it is not supported by Adobe as of yet. My question is, when could I expect Adobe to release some type of an update to fix this issue?

I have latest version of LR4.  Photos downloaded from card reader and two different cards show grayed image with note "preview unavailable".  I see this question has come up with Nikon D800.  Do I need to wait for adobe to update for Nikon d600 before I can use my cool new camera?

I'll take that bet, Butch - I've been in the Capture One club for a long time, and they do take their time with stuff like this.
Bear in mind too that you only get any tethering support if you use the $299 Capture One Pro - the stripped-down (at $99, closer to Lr's price of $149) Capture One Express has no tethering support whatsoever.
And with either Cap One product, you've got to put your hand in your pocket again for a DAM solution.
    You lose! ... as of Jul 17, 2012 ...

Keep in mind my reference to C1 was not that it was a direct competior or exact match to Lightroom ... or Aperture for that matter ... but all three apps claim to offer support for tethering ... and thus far Adobe has failed to make the effort and produce an update ...
At this point in time Apple supports tethering for 60 camera and C1 supports more than that spanning five different brands ...
I take no pleasure in gloating I was right on this wager ... rather I am quite disappointed that Adobe (as well as several of my fellow Lightroom users) feel tethering is too unimportant to maintain ... yet Apple (and Phase One) didn't feel my needs were quite so insignificant ...

  • [Consolidation-Locked] Nikon D 600

Anyone out there can see the NEF files for the D 600?  Do you know when Adobe will update to allow work on these files?

Support was introduced in LR 4.2 and ACR 7.2 on Oct 2, 2012.
If you are not using LR 4 or PS CS6 then you can convert your .nef files to .dng using the Adobe DNG converter V 7.2, which is available for free on the Adobe web site, this will allow the .dng files to be processed using earlier versions of Lightroom and Adobe Camera Raw.

    My Fair Adobe,
Please add RAW support for the Nikon D600 to Lightroom as soon as possible!
ViewNX lets me get to the images, but come on!!! I know Lightroom, and you, ViewNX, are no Lightroom.
Yes, I see everyone else ASKING for D600 support. I'm here to beg for it! Don't make me wait much longer!

Rob, my reading of your site is that this plug-in copies settings from raw to jpeg, does it work the other way around as well?

One of the great things about the new 0-based defaults and linear tone curve is:
You can develop the jpegs now, in Lightroom, and then sync the settings to the raws later (e.g. using RawPlusJpeg), and provided you select a matching camera profile, they will look almost the same (white balance won't translate over, but everything else will, more or less). Beware lens corrections applied to the raws might alter the registration of precision local adjustments.
Note: I recommend shooting with ADL off in order for this to work better, and consider turning sharpening off in camera as well, and noise reduction and everything else to whatever extent is possible.

  • [Consolidation-Locked] Any Possibility the Nikon D600 Will Be in Next Release Lightroom Candidate?

Hello I just preordered the Nikon D600 and unbelievably it will be here next week some time.
My question is how long after it comes out before Lightroom 4 supports the raw file? I know its short notice but is there any chance that it will be in the next release candidate (4.2 I think is the next one?)
Is there a temporary workaround to edit the images in LR until an official support happens? for example can you save the D600 raw (.NEF) to a .DNG to import it into LR4?
Thanks for your time, I am looking forward to this camera but I cannot live without LR4:)

...Adobe do state in the release notes that their may be more camera specs in the finalised version than in the RC. Nikon's own nx2 doesn't have an update yet (v2.3.4).
Nikon is doing a much faster release here than they have historically done so you might have to wait a while. AFAIK, neither Nikon nor Canon really shares any info with Adobe and Adobe has to buy a camera like everybody else to analyse the raw files and profile the camera. They need more info than just the file format. The file format is actually easy since .nef is just a tiff file in sheep's clothing. Dcraw probably reads them already for this reason(no D600 raw file to test so I can't check yet). They are easy to read apart from the files from the short period where Nikon decided to obfuscate the white balance info but that's long ago. It is the profiling of the color response of the camera that is the hard part for Adobe and the LR 4.2 release might be too close to get it in. Again, if you live on the bleeding edge you might get cut (or have to wait a few months for Lightroom support of your new camera).
I read online that NX2 already supports the D600 nef files.

  • New Nikon d600 NEF files not supported by Elements9

I have a question, my old Nikon d3000 and photoshop elements9 had worked great together.  Now I upgraded my camera to the Nikon d600 and the RAW files are not supported by it... Any suggestions how to resolve this?

The D600 only gets full support in version 7.3 which is out of beta testing and now available as a release candidate. You may want to wait for the final version of camera raw 7.3 which will be available shortly. Alternatively download the release candidate now but make a not to update when the final version is released.

  • Lightroom 4.4 Nikon D600 Tethering Support

Does anyone know if 4.4RC supports tethering with the Nikon D600?

I figured that out but I couldn't figure out how to have it automatically display the most recent picture full screen or, at least, very large.
If you've ever watched photography training videos (eg. Joe McNally, Dave Black, etal.) they're tethered to a laptop which does that. A few seconds after they take the picture, it shows up on the display. If you had to select the most recent photo, each time, it would really interrupt the workflow.

  • When will Lightroom and Elements support the Nikon D600?

When will Lightroom and Elements support the Nikon D600?  In the meantime is there a workaround so the D600 raw files can be exported to Lightroom or am I simply out of business until Adobe develops the needed patch?
As best as I have been able to figure out I may as well rebox the 600 and go back to my older, supported camera, until whenever.

A: What were you using before your precious D600 showed up today.
    A D90 with good glass.
    Nikon 70-200 f2.8, Nikon 24-70 f2.8, Voigtlander 58 f1.4, Tokina 11-16 f2.8.
Now I need to get a good FF wide solution for the D600.
Trigger on the D600 is much more stiff than my D90 so I'm having to press down a bit harder to get the AF confirmation. Just need to get used to that I guess.
FYI, JPG files right out of the camera are looking good.
B: Don’t you think Adobe wants to sell you the next generation product/upgrade to accommodate all of our insatiable photographic pursuits???
I had been using Apple's Aperture and switched to Lightroom a couple of months ago. I thought the price was actually quite fair for the power of the LR software. I did have to updgrade my computer's RAM....
C: Have a nice glass of wine tonight and enjoy your $2K investment. I’m personally looking forward to savoring a next generation photographic paradigm.
We did enjoy some vino last night! I was thinking I would possibly jump ship to Sony A99 and just switch to all Zeiss glass with autofocus, but I'm not convinced that the EVF is for me, and I'm really not a video shooter, mostly just landscape and real estate. Also, I the Sony turned out to be priced a bit too high for me personally in comparision to the D600.
    Buenos Dias!

  • Aperture support for RAW Nikon D600.

Just bought the latest Nikon D600 and when loading RAW images, I'm getting a "Format not supported" error.  It reads the JPEG just fine but not the RAW.  I also have a Nikon D3S and it reads the RAW images just fine.  I'm currently on Aperture V3.2.
    Thanks

    Danl1,
This is the way it works with every new camera that comes out.
Untill Apple and Adobe and PhaseOne get a final production sample in their hands, they cannot write the code neccessary to process the RAW files from any manufacturer.
Some camera makers provide this information pre-release, but most tend to be pretty secretive right up to the end.
So the solution is to shoot JPG or convert RAW in Nikon's software for the next 2 weeks or so, and by then Aperture and Lightroom and CaptureOne will be up to speed.
Enjoy your new camera... it looks great!

  • Does Bridge 5.1 support RAW files from Nikon D600 ?

Does Bridge version  5.1 support RAW files from Nikon D600 ? latest available Camera Raw plugin 6.7 does not seem to recognize NEF fileds from D600

Yes, as long as you update your camera raw plug-in (ACR) to version 8.3 using Help / Updates… in the PSE Editor.

  • Nikon D600 Raw support?

Why is it taking so long to provide support for the Nikon D600 RAW files?  I love using Aperture and have established a great workflow that works for me and now i'm having to use Nikon s/w to process the files and import them back into my workflow.  This camera was announced 5 weeks ago.

    Sort of just venting.
    If it helps
You can get an idea, of the time for the raw support to be released by looking at the Apple Support Downloads  page: http://support.apple.com/downloads/.
Enter "Digital Camera RAW Support Update" into the searchfield, and you will see how frequently new raw support will be released.

  • Will PSE10 be updated to support the Nikon D600?

I just purchased a new Nikon D600 and found that the raw format is not supported under PSE10.  Will there be an update to provide support anytime soon?  Also, there appears to be a Black Friday special on PSE11 until 28 Nov.  Does PSE11 support the D600?
    Thanks!

    You have two alternatives:
    (1) Upgrade to PSE 11. (2) Download and install the free Adobe DNG converter to convert your NEF files to the Adobe universal Raw format and the files will open in all versions of PSE (keep your original NEF’s as backups and for use in Nikon software)

Mac download click here DNG Converter 7.2
