Consolidation of Investments
Hi Friends
Have you ever seen any document about Consolidation of Investments? I´ve read that BPC support two Accounting Technique: Equity Method and Proportional Consolidation, is it true?
Thanks
Besr regards
BPC does support the following consolidation methods:
- Global (or sometimes called Purchase) method.
- Proportional method
- Equity method
Global method : Balance Sheet and P&L accounts are included at 100% and minority interests are calculated if necessary.
Proportional method : Balance Sheet and P&L accounts are included at the percentage of ownership (like only 50% of Balance Sheet and P&L are inluded).
Equity mehtod : Balance Sheet and P&L account are not included, but the "net value" and "result of the period" are inlcuded into a specific Balance Sheet accout and a P&L account.
Specific rules also handles the elimination of intercompany balances between companies with different consolidation methods.

EC-CS Consolidation of Investments: GL account without VBUND data
The Gl account that represents a loan to another company in the group does not have an entry in the business partner field (as this field VBUND is in the COA and not on the company code level). For Consolidation of Investments I need the GL account or financial document posted on this GL account with business partner and amount. How do I accomplish to get this data when the financial document was posted in the past before we started implementing EC-CS?
Edited by: Arjan Hogenes on Oct 24, 2008 6:09 PMDear Tulip,
breakdown category defined what kind of subitems do you want to use for the FS items (=Accounts in EC-CS). Subitems help to reduce the number of FS items and provides additional information.
All customer I know uses breakdowns for FS Items.
Please see help.sap.com , there is a definition with examples.

Consolidation of Investments - Mergers
Hi Gurus,
I have a new requisite that involves a merge between two consolidation unit.
This is what´s supposed to happen:
Period 12-2008
C.G. A
Cons. Unit A <- Cons. Group Controller.
Cons. Unit B
In 01-2009 cons. unit B is supposed to merge with cons. unit A.
C.G. A
Cons. Unit B <- Cons. Group Controller.
All assets and goodwill from Cons. unit A should be transferred to Cons. Unit B.
The purchased method is enabled for both cons. unit.
What cons. of investments activity should be used for this case?
Best Regards,
Telmo S.
Edited by: Telmo S. on Feb 10, 2009 5:02 PMThank you for your time Dan,
If I follow your suggestion, cons. unit A Balance Sheet and P&L will be reflected in cons. unit B, after the investment operation in cons. unit A?
I´ll try to implement your suggestion and I´ll let you know if it worked.
Thank you,
Best Regards,

Reg consolidation of Investments
Hi,
I got a scenario where in, the holding company is
having say 80 % holding in equity . However entire
preference share is held by minority . So, I want to calculate
my minority share accordingly.
However system is allowing me to enter only one % share
for each investor and investee combination. I am reading the
data from AFD.
please let me know any solution for this. The investment by holding company 80 % is only in
equity. Holding company does not have any investment in
preference capital. So this preference capital will not be
part of goodwill calculation. My entire preference capital
( 100 % ) should be reported under minority.
This is as per local GAAP. -
Consolidation of Investment Issue --- Please Help!!!
Hi,
Why after running Consolidation of investments from Consolidation Monitor, do I get 1 additional record as highlighted in picture below. We should get only one elimination record instead of 2.
The 3rd record is the actual record but after running consolidation monitor, SAP is generating the first two records. Why is it generating the 1st record?
Please help me!!!
Regards,
NickyHi Nicky
The basic principle of Consolidation process as per below principles:
1. Reported Financial Data in LC(Local Currency) at G_NONE level should be ZERO otherwise Balance Sheet will not be BALANCED
Ex:
2. After Currency Conversion( LC to GC) the Trail Balance/Balance Sheet should be balanced in Group Currency(GC) at G_NONE level
3. After Consolidation Process BPC will generate or replicate your Data Load/Adjustments into Specific Group Level i.e. GROUP1 based on your Group Dimension.
a>. Make sure Balance Sheet is Balanced at GROUP1 level after Elimination
b>.Account SAP_ECC GROUP1 Dollar Amount > This your original Transaction
from SAP
Elimination Record:
c>.Account ELIM GROUP1 Dollar Amount ( '+'OR '-' Revers sign
based on SAP Transaction -SAP_ECC)
Note: What ever you have from screen is working as per Configuration. Only thing is to make sure you have Offset Account for Elimination of Investments. Otherwise " BALANCE SHEET is not going to be BALANCED"
Hope this will give you the Idea about Consolidation Process before and After.
Thanks

SEM-BCS Preparation for Consolidation Group Changes
Hi All,
Is the task "Preparation for Consolidation Group Changes" only implemented when Consolidation of Investments has also been implemented?
Does "Preparation for Consolidation Group Changes" have any value on its own?
Any comments, replies or suggestions most welcome.Hi,
I think that prep for cons group changes is independent (but supplementary to) from CoI.
See what is said in help:
"When in the middle of a fiscal year a consolidation unit is either acquired by a consolidation group (acquisition), divested from a consolidation group (divestiture), or changes its accounting technique (method change), the following data must be adjusted:
- Reported financial data
- Standardized financial data
- Consolidated data with posting level 20"
As you can see, not only consolidated data are to be changed, but also Standardized and Reported.
Moreover, as is seen above, changes of accounting technique will also trigger such activities.
So, my answers:
1. No
2. Yes.
Best regards,

Consolidation unit's hierarchy can not be organized well in BCS
Hi,gurus here.
We are using SEM-BCS to analyse business consolidation based on BW.
In BW,the consolidation unit's hierarchy is good, but when we execute the data load task in BCS,the consolidatioin unit in BCS can not be organized as an entire hirarchy well.
What's wrong?Hi Dan,
Thanks for your answer.
Youu2019re saying that although the data is loaded is ignored in the reporting.
But if data is loaded isnu2019t it considered in the consolidation methods? As in the method for IU IU Elimination and Reconciliation or Consolidation of Investments?
Thanks for your help.

Legal \ management consolidation (What is the appropriate data model?)
Hi,
We are implementing SEM-BCS 6.0 with SAP BI 7.0.
For reporting purposes we have 2 types of consolidation:
Legal (external) and management (internal).
I have the following situation in a project (fictive names for companies):
Legal entity hierarchy is as follows:
Company Apple has business units A, B, C
Company Bello has business units A, D.
Management hierarchy is as follows
To the Business unit A belongs companies Apple and Bello.
Question is now: to be able to report in 2 different ways (legal and management reporting), having in account that for legal I consolidate by company and for management I consolidate by business areas:
Do I need to create 2 consolidation areas with each a data basis and perform financial consolidation twice (interunit eliminations (elimination of payables and receivables, elimination of revenue and expense, elimination of investment income) Elimination of Interunit Profit/Loss in Transferred Inventory, consolidation of investments, Reclassifications).
Or do I create one consolidation area with one databasis with 2 consolidation unit hierarchies.
For example, one hierarchy could have a structure of consolidation units as companies; another hierarchy could have a structure with business segments. (In our opinion this is the best way - Are we correct?)
If so, can we have the first hierarchy (legal) with consolidation unit (company) and partner unit (trading partner);
And the second hierarchy (management) with consolidation unit (business area) and partner unit (trading partner or trading partner's business area).
Thanks.
Ps: Our purpose is to have one databasis and one Financial Statement Item for both consolidations (legal and management).Ricardo Pedro Rodrigues Ferrão wrote:

Ricardo,
I had similar business scenario in my earlier project and the expectations were almost same.
I created one consolidation area (legal consolidation) under one single data basis and assigned business area as sub-assignment. All the consolidation functions are executed by the business users based on legal cons requirements purpose, while the reports can be generated for both legal and management consolidation.
In management consolidation reporting, your expectations can be met easily. The header will be business area, while line item data will be companies wise (if you would like the data to display that way).
For more information, you can check the threads created by me. -
COI not reading equity data after consolidation group change
Dear experts,
I am running the consolidation of investments task for a new group that has been created on 012.2009. This new group CG2 is a child of an existing one CG1, and all the consolidation units that I have in 012.2009 under CG2 were in 012.2008 under the CG1.
In my new group GC2 all the units have as first consolidation period 012.2009 and on the parent group they have as last consolidation period 012.2009.
The problem is that when I run the COI task the system does not read the equity data for these consolidation units. I have both, equity data and Investment data defined to be read from additional financial data. The system reads correctly the investment data for the parent consolidation unit, and tries to eliminate it, but as it does not read the equity data of the child so it takes the value to consolidation a difference, that is incorrect.
Does anyone know what I am missing?
Thanks in advance.
Kind regards,
SóniaHi Sonia
i dont want to confuse you as Dan is guiding so far. let me put my thoughts some here.
CG1 12/2008
- CU - A Parent 12/2008 to 999/9999
- CU- B 12/2008 to 999/9999
- CU - C 12/2008 to 999/9999
do you have any another sub node for CU-B and CU-C? as B has investment in C
New Group: 12/2009
CG1
- CU -A 12/08 to 999/9999
- CU - B 12/08 to 12/9999
- CU - C 12/08 to 12/2009
CG2 group supose to be like this
CG1
-CU-A
-CU-B
I--- CG2
CU - B Parent 12/09 to 999/9999
CU - C 12/09 to 999/9999
- CU-C
Now with above scenario you can invest in C from B and system will treate as FIRST CONSOLIDATION based on AFD Investments/Equity
How did you maintain B investments in C at CG1 12/08 level?
and or as per Dan
You have to run PREP for CONSOLIDATION GROUP CHANGE task before CT task and after Elim Taks but before COI task

CONSOLIDATION Package not updating Retained Earning Accounts(7.5NW, SP09)
Hi all
During consolidation data manager package run, the package is not updating "retained earnings accounts from PL and BS" of income statement items which are belongs to IC elimination.
please provide your feed/advice on this issue
thanks
ramanaHi Tom
I am running datamanager package for consolidation for ic eliminations and consolidation of investments and have 4 business rules for income statement related ic eliminations which are causing issue by not updating retain earning accounts from balance sheet and income statement account.
i have defined one retained act with BS LEQ and the offset account with income statement account.
I am thinking what is the best way to define the retained earning account, can i define both accounts from BS LEQ level or
income statemnt side and balance sheet- leq?
process will be first load data in LC , default logic , currency translation and then followed by consolidation package is the process.

Consolidation Unit change from Group A to group B
When I drag consolidation unit from group A to Group in CX1X and then I run CXCd and error message popped stated below;
Entry cannot be posted :B/s and I/S balance of 1.7million.
I think it might be due to moving from one group to another group. please advise and it is very very urgent. What is the solution to this problem.? It is giving the same error when i try to drag back to the same group.
Thank you
SelvamHi,
Is it a Production system? In Consolidation if a Consolidation Unit is moved from one group to another it will have serious repurcursions. In one of the projects in test system we had this problem. SAP OSS Notes also suggest that Consolidation Unit - if transaction data is already posted - it should not be moved. Especially if Consolidation of Investments is configured it is going to be a problem.
Thanks

Consolidation unit's divestiture
Hi all,
We are implementing SEM-BCS 6.0 and we have a question.
In 011.2008 we defined in the Consolidation Group that a consolidation unit had Divestiture Accounting at Beginning of Period.
But in 012.2008 when we execute the upload of data from BW it uploads data to the total of records although the consolidation unit was already divested in the prior period.
Should we delete this consolidation unit from the hierarchy?
Because we read in this forum, that after a divestiture the consolidation unit should only be deleted from the hierarchy in the next year.
Thanks for your help.

Hi all
I want to know wich is the better way to cuztomizing a hierarchy for a group of company that in legal consolidation have 5 company and in managment consolidation have 6 company.
Is it good have two hierarchies in a version? or have a hierarchie per version or is it necesary have other consolidation area?
Two consolidation (Legal and Mngmet) have the same data collection, the same rules interunit elimination, the same validation only are diferent hierarchy and reports.
thanks for your replyHi Lucio,
Two consolidation (Legal and Mngmet) have the same data collection, the same rules interunit elimination, the same validation only are diferent hierarchy and reports.
And I would add - they have the same data sources -- the same and one version is acceptable.
In a version you may have several hierarchies of ConsUnits, regardless of number of units in each. All consolidation operations are run simultaneously for all hierarchies in one go. Only Operations on the level 30 (Consolidation Of Investments and supply chain unrealized profit eliminations) should be executed separately for each hierarchy. -
Error in consolidation monitor
Hi gurus
Actually I`m cuztomizing the Consolidation of investments but Iam new in this part, I have a issue quen I carry out the task of COI, the following message is showing.
*There is no parent unit in group combination [ Cons Group G001 ]
Message no. UCF6687
Diagnosis
The parent indicator has not been set in any of the groups [ Cons Group G001 ]. This causes consolidation of investments to use erroneous group shares.
Procedure
Set the parent indicator for at least one characteristic with the role "consolidation unit".*
I tryed in master data of consolidation units but I don`t know where
Could you help me please, I will asign points
cheersYou can find parent unit checkbox in following path...
UCWB>Masterdata> Consolidation Unit> Accounting tecniques> expand the hierarchy on the right side.. you will see in the 3rd column the parent unit checkbox.
