Conspiracy theory: the micro's stock earbuds break the j

i used my micro for a month without ever (and i mean ever) using the earbuds... last weekend (2 days), i used the earbuds and now have a broken jack
(i noticed the male end of the earbud plug is slightly longer than all of my other headphones by at least 0.5mm)
anyone else have a similar experience?

sounds like creative needs to have a re-call on this LoL
but seriously its not fair to the consumer... It's annoying when I have to walk down the street and keep my hand in my pocket to hold the HP jack in place just so I can hear my music...
I like creative as a company, and I am glad that theres another mp3 player out there that sets me apart from the IPAUD clones...
But if the quality isnt there, I may have to invest in another companies products. I also think its kinda lame that just 2 months ago I purchased a player with 5GB and now a NEW one is being released that holds more for the same price... And I doubt i can get an upgrade or trade in...

  • EarJams damaging stock earbuds.  Anyone else?

I recently purchased a pair of EarJams from Griffin technology and after trying them initially and finding the bass a bit heavy and treble too low I carefully tried to remove them from my earbuds. What happened was is as careful as I was, they actually removed the faceplate of the speaker (grill/mesh, whatever) from the earbud itself. I managed to get the EarJam off and very carefully pushed the speaker face back on but then realized the speaker no longer worked. I've been in contact with Griffin and they claim the earbud is defective and a problem with Apple's product and I'm sure Apple will claim that the 3rd party accessory caused the damage. Has anyone else had a problem with the earbud covers actually separating from the bud housing itself?
They refuse to help me even though their $4.99 product (was on clearance at Best Buy, I should have been wary) destroyed my stock earbuds. They called it 'splitting hairs' Great way to back up your product. Regardless my perfect sounding earbuds are broken after applying their product which is what they fail to understand.

  • Time Bomb Theory - the attack of the lemons

i apologize in advance for starting a new thread. though i appreciate the replies in the previous thread, i didn't think that i was gettin my point across.
i want to differentiate this thread by re-introducing the idea of the illusion of getting the macbook repaired. my argument was IF the logic boards have been changed to fix the mooing (according to this article http://news.softpedia.com/news/Apple-Acknowledges-MacBook-Whine-And-Offers-Logic -Board-Replacements-31384.shtml ), then the new boards are to blame. but if the restarting problem stems from the original batch, then we might be dealing with a massive case of lemons. if apple did start producing macbooks with the new boards, i'm assuming that this means that every macbook is a ticking time bomb. if i do get my logic board 'replaced', wouldn't it be the same on that is on the production line meaning that it's not getting fixed at all? although there are happy trouble free mac users out there, it might just take longer for the problems to surface on their machines.
and yes i'm ticked about my situation

Your double negative notwithstanding, it doesn't matter that there are hundreds of thousands of satisfied people. I've been on the receiving end of many car and electronics recalls without ever seeing the problem the recall was designed to address. What is looked at is the probability over time that a component or system will fail under certain circumstances and the consequences of that failure. The shutdown problem appears to be widespread and serious enough to suggest that some type of recall may be necessary.

  • Stock earbuds don't work with iPhone 5s what to do?

So have 5s for 4months. Have tried my earbuds twice now. First time sound there off and on. Second time on for about 3seconds then nothing. Moving the pin or taking it out then in again, nothing. Bad ear buds in the package with my phone? Please help. The audio on the phone does work. B

Have you tried any other headphones? If other headphones work it's probably defective earbuds which are covered by the phones 1 year limited warranty. If other headphones do not work, then either your headphone jack is bad (also covered by warranty) or your settings need to be adjusted.

  • Clear the negative from stock in transit

    Hello,
I am looking at transit stock  and have several cases where for intercompany PO the delivery has  been created and GI'd but the receiving plant makes excess GR for the actula qty hence creating negative stock in transit. Apart from asking the origin plant to create a delivery + PGI. what other solution would be available to clear the differences?
    Thank you.
    Sai

    Hi
This happens because as you say the receiving plant have received more than was on the delivery, However if they actually have the stock I personally thik that is what they should do to keep the stocks correct.
In theory you should have stock showing in the sending plant that you do not have as the receiving plant has it and so to keep the stocks correct and to keep the finances correct you should raise another delivery for the extra stock (on the same PO/STO doc) and when you issue it the negative will dissappear.
Remember ALL negatives appear fror a reason and should not be just 'cleared' without some investigation.
In this case you know the answer so you can ;fix' it
    I hope that this helps

  • I Bought the MacBook Air...  and returned it, and returned it again, etc...

Thank you for everyones help here in helping make my decision on buying the MacBook Air. I decided to buy one. So the story goes I ended up buying and returning 3 different MacBook Air with the SSD because they all had the grey lines. Very frustrating to say the least. After I returned the last one I happened to be visiting Best Buy the same day. They had a MacBook Air HDD version on display. This particular one had no lines and looked very nice. As a side note, the lines are a deal breaker for anyone wondering. I use Word and Pages a lot, and the grey lines are an easy distraction against the white background.
I ended up looking at the serial number and display manufacturer information on the MacBook Air that was on display at BestBuy. The panel number was 00009C8F and the serial number indicated it had been built in week 53 of 2008. Fortunately the lock up cage for the MacBook Air was right beneath the table the computer was displayed on. They had a brand new one in stock with the same build week, but it was a HDD version. I had already made my mind up that I was buying the MacBook Air with SSD, but after the experience at the Apple Store (buying and returning 3 different ones) I was going to try the on-line store. I thought what the heck do I have to lose. I bought it! I got it home powered it on, and the screen had no grey lines! YAHOO! In addition, after using the HDD version for a couple hours I think I saved myself $700. I could not tell the difference in speed (except in cold boot times, marginally) between the SSD and the HDD.
In conclusion, I wonder if the SSD has something to do with the grey lines. It is more of a conspiracy theory at this point, but I got my MBA without grey lines and I am happy! Thanks for everyones help in provide buying information.

    Hi Soft Reset,
I do agree with you that it is not hardware related to the hard drive type. I just could not believe that I could not find an SSD without problems. Like I stated though, I was pleasenty surprised by the performance of the HDD version. In the end I think I saved $700, but to reiterate, I am just using office, internet, and e-mail. Therefore the SSD is really not a neccessity. If they come out with a REV C and a bump in SSD sizes, I will probably sucomb to upgrading. Thanks again!

  • Bladerunner "replicant" technology used in Creative Zen Micro

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the Harrison Ford movie "Bladerunner" it's basically about a bunch of human looking androids who somehow find out that they have been built with only a certain lifespan (4 years i think) and because of this decide to kill their inventor.
What has this got to do with Zen Micros ?
Well I have been one of those users who has thought that all the RMA stories on this board were due to either bad luck or mishandling of the ZM's by the posters but my ZM has just died after EXACTLY 6 MONTHS of owning it and being treated with "kid gloves".
It hadn't been dropped and was working fine until it just stopped and started making whirring clicking noises. None of the recovery mode options would work, nor would replacing the battery fix it.
If I was a conspiracy theorist i'd think that it had been built by the Tyrell corporation (see "Bladerunner" for explanation). I'm guessing that if enough of the ZM's are returned that will probably kill Creatives reputation hands down.
    Nice one creative.
On the plus side I am now getting a replacement within the warranty period, unfortunately i have to replace my silver one with a white one now due to lack of stock.
I guess it doesn't matter though as it'll probably be going back to them in exactly six months time as well - so perhaps i'll get to try out the full range of colours.

Closing this thread. I don't see anything positi've coming from conspiracy theory threads.
Glad to hear you're getting your player replaced in any case.

  • How can we stop the finger pointing?  Apps Vs iPad

Here is a WiFi problem I sent the Print Magic HD developer with the hopes of getting Print Magic HD working on my iPad. Check out their response blaming Apple WiFi. My Wifi works well with all other Apps! Whose to blame?
    Set up:
    Print Magic HD version 1.0
Brother HL-2170W; Rom Version 1.09; Net Rom version 1.06; Ram 32Mb iPad Version 3.2; 14 Gb; Model MB292LL; WiFi address 7C:6D:62:D9:16:E0
    Problem – Can’t Print
Symptom: Print Magic HD seems to turn off WiFi after “Print” is pressed.
I purchased the App after using your free Print Magic test App. With the test App, I was able to able to print from my iPad to my Brother HL-2170W WiFi laser printer. It did however, take a number of retries, but I was successful.
I then purchased and installed Print Magic HD App and I'm not having any success.
After confirming my Wifi is live, and the iPad is connected, here is what happens:
    1. Launch Print Magic HD
    2. Screen displays “looking for printers”. Please note that the iPad WiFi icon is displayed in the tool bar at top.
    3. Screen then shows “Brother HL-2170W series in Print Magic tool bar at top. I can observe the iPad WiFi icon is active in the tool bar.
    4. I then Press “Print” to print the simple telephone number I previously copied into the “Pasteboard”. I immediately observe that WiFi has been turned off by Print Magic HD as the WiFi icon is no longer displayed.
    5. Print Magic HD then quickly displays “Print Failed” error code. Sub text displays “Sorry, an error occurred while printing”. I then press “Ok” to dismiss prompt.
    6. Screen continues to display “Printing” with red Cancel button underneath and WiFi remains off. This App just hangs there.
    7. When I now check iPad settings, WiFi is indeed turned off.
I can turn WiFi on and repeat this sequence verbatim every time.
If I launch Safari after Print Magic HD error, it detects that WiFi is off and turns in on. Maybe your App should do the same??
Is there a fix for this?
    RESPONSE:
    Hello,
I spoke with our developers this morning and this is what I learned.
Print Magic can not, in any way, control your wifi. Even if it was a bug, there is nothing in the app that can make this happen. What they did say was the iPad has had some "sketchy" wifi connections and has been going on and off more with certain applications. This is a universal complaint and has to do with the iPad itself. We are hoping Apple can correct this problem in their next software update. I have noticed at times that my wifi connection is not solid and is listed as "not connected" on my iPad when my PC is working fine.
Also, the test app and HD app have all of the same coding and are exactly the same. Nothing has changed as far as that goes.
    I hope this information helps.
    Thanks,

I know this will sound like a conspiracy theory, but maybe Apple doesn't want you printing from your iPad... yet. Could be something Apple did so as not to "Steal their Thunder" when they announce the upgrades on the next generation iPad. Just a thought...

  • Let's get an MP3 player headphone/earbud discussion going

I am shocked to see how little use this little slice of this great forum is. As we all know, the earbuds that typically accompany any stock MP3 player are usually sub-standard, at best. Often they are terrible. Occaisionly they are passable, and once in a blue moon they are great. It always amazes me that MP3 player companies, Creative included, don't realize that they could really push their players over the top by adding a good set of buds. In fact, Sony has just done this. One of their new MP3 players is being shipped with a higher end set of Sony earbuds that typically go for $70 all by themselves. CNET is raving about the player, particulary how it is one of the only players out there that sounds fantastic "out of the box". And now I'm starting to see discussions on the CNET MP3 player forums comparing that particular Sony to the new ZEN with lot's of people leaning to the Sony just because it does not require a new set of buds to really bring out the quality of the music.
Now we all know that a lot of people are clueless when it comes to this aspect. It amazes me the people who will spend $500 on a high-end MP3 player and then not bother to replace the crappy buds that come bundled with it (cough, cough, iPod, cough). If you fall into this category do yourself a favor and go out and try some quality buds or headphones for your MP3 player. You'll be quite astounded how much more you'll enjoy listening to your music. As with any audio device, you'll have to pay for that quality. But quality can be found in everyone's budget. CNET is a great place to start and learn. You'll be happy to know that Creative's Aurvana buds are highly rated in their price category and quite frankly, the next time Creative releases a new higer-end product, say the ZEN 32 GB due out in first quarter 2008 (or so I've read), they would be super smart to include a nice set of these buds with that player even if it means bumping the price a bit and eating some profit.
I recently bought my fifth Creative product, the 16 GB ZEN. It's a great player. Not perfect, but certainly a top contender in the high-cap flash-based MP3 player market. As always, the included buds were passable. So I embarked upon a search for the perfect set of headphones and/or buds in my price range.
I set my price range between $100 and $150. That's a ton of money for some, nothing for others. I was pleasantly surprised with what is out there. Here is what I found, what I tried, what I thought, what I kept, and what went back. I am somewhat limited in my testing by the fact that I pretty much just use Best Buy. While I really don't like the store, the one good thing they have is a 30-day money back return policy. So I can just keep trying headphones and returning them to try others until I find the ones I like.
The first thing I tried was pair of Bose full around ear (AE) TriPort headphones. CNET has called these the poor-man's QuietComfort 2's, a noise-canceling Bose product highly rated by CNET. The TriPorts are great phones, light weight, and great sounding. Best Buy price is$140. Great audio quality and they block out most regular outside noise. The downside, for me at least, is my ears tend to sweat after extended listening. I still have these and will keep them. My daughter liked them so much she's getting a pair for Christmas although she doesn't know it yet. These are better for your ears because they don't pipe music directly into the canal and are less likely to cause any damage to hearing.
The next thing I tried was a set of Bose on ear (OE) TriPorts. These are pretty much the same drivers as the AE's but they sit comfortably on the ear instead of around them. The upside is that they don't sweat as much. Downside is, if you're a woman (or a guy) who wears earrings they can be less comfortable because they press on the earrings. The audio quality is much same, ie: great, as the AE models but not quite as good. The sound isolation is also surprisingly good. I like the design of these phones much better too. They have a single cord design (the AE's have a dual cord) and the cord is modual. I love short cords as I just keep my player in a shirt pocket so a long cord is just a drag, pun intended. The OE models also come with a much nicer, hard case, the AE's just come with a cloth bag. The phones fold up smaller and fit into the case nicely for storage and transport. The real downside to these phones, the price: $180. While the cord design and case are nice touches they really don't (to me anyway) justify the extra $40. That said, I still have these phones too as I like them for work for the short cord. The jury is still out as to whether or not I'll keep them.
Next up I tried the Sure SE210 earbuds, actually ear canal phones. These are pricey at $150 but for Shure products that's actually just a step up from entry level! I thought it would be good to have a nice set of quality buds for those times when I don't want to walk around with headphones on. The Shure's are raved about on CNET. I was not impressed. The sound was just okay and I really don't like things sticking IN my ear canals for long periods of time. It just get's painful for me. The Shure's do come with the 'comfort pack' which has several different styles and sizes of tips to maximize comfort but I just couldn't see them getting enough use to justify the price. They went back.
Next up was the Bose TriPort earbuds. These got a mediocre review over at CNET but I thought since I'd tried the other two in the line I'd give these a go. They are $99 at BB. These are not ear canal phones and are not meant to into the ear and form a tight seal. They sounded very good and were very comfortable. But they just didn't feel stable. I move around at work a lot an they always felt like they were going to fall out and the quality and level of music would change with the movement. They went back.
Last up, the Shure SE110 earbuds. Again, these are ear canal phones meant to go into the ear canal and form a seal for maximum bass and sound. I bought these on a whim. They are $99 at BB. They pretty much sound just like the SE210's to me - I'm not sure what the difference was supposed to be. CNET gives these a decent review and recommends them in their price point range. I tried them at work and was going to take them right back. But I've been unable to get them back for a few days so I tried them again last night. I finally found a set of the 'comfort pack' tips that fit me best, the small rubber ones, and I can wear them for longer periods of time without as much discomfort. And when in the ear with a good seal they sound pretty good, much better than any stock earbud, but not as good as the Bose AE or OE phones.
So the jury is out on these ones. I'm thinking they'll go back. It seems you have to go up to the SE310's to get a really good bud from Shure but that's up around $200 to $250, a bit more than I'll spend for now at least. If I end up taking the SE110's AND the Bose OE TriPort's back than I'd have enough to try out a pair but our BB doesn't sell them so I'd have to find another local or online dealer with a nice return policy. Online sucks because of course you have to send them back and pay shipping. Much easier to just go to a counter!
If you've really got a ton of money, I hear the new Shure SE530's are nothing short of fantasic - or so says CNET. I'd love to try a set but at$450 to $500 a set that's not going happen any time soon. I might just go back to BB and try a bunch of lower end stuff in the $50 to $100 range and see if anything in that price point range blows my mind.
Anyhow, I thought his forum was sadly lacking and thought I'd at least give a good post to get it going. If any of you have done this type of testing, or just have a great set of buds or headphones you use, please share your opinion's here. Let's get this rock rolling down the hill!

    Hi methos1979,
This forum has only just been created, all the other forums have been on the board much longer, so we should hopefully see more posts appearing here.
While I appreciate and understand the intention of the thread, this is not a suitable place to discuss non-Creative products. This forum was intended for discussion of Creative headphones, headsets and earphones.

  • Need earbud or adapter recommendations

Can anyone suggest a good set of earbuds or an adapter with the mic and phone/play controls? I'm currently using the Bose earbuds and I absolutely love them. I added the Griffin adapter for the mic and control button but it makes the cord way too long. The stock earbuds sound okay to me (I'm not a gigantic audiophile) but they keep slipping out. I tried the v-moda duo but I absolute cannot stand hearing the cord rub on my shirt everytime I move. Also, I actually don't like sound isolation. Not hearing my surroundings makes me paranoid.
    *Here are the cliff notes:*
Is there anything that give the sound quality/comfort of the Bose earbuds while also letting in ambient sound, doesn't transmit the sound of my clothing, and has a mic/control button?

I use Ultimate ears. I prefer the sound of these to the Bose and it has a mic and clock button.

  • [SOLVED] gnupg 2.1.0-4 upgrade breaks passphrase via STDIN

I'm not exactly sure what's going wrong -- the upgrade of gnupg from 2.0.26-1 to 2.1.0-4 (which also deprecates dirmngr package) today breaks my duply/duplicity passphrase pipe via STDIN. I ran duply in preview mode and grabbed the basic command from it's initial test+encrypt:
    -- Run cmd -- Test - Encrypt to '15DE5E40' & Sign with '15DE5E40' --
    echo XXXXXX | /usr/bin/gpg --sign --default-key 15DE5E40 --passphrase-fd 0 --batch -r 15DE5E40 --status-fd 1 -o /tmp/duply.5459.1416887390_ENC -e /usr/bin/duply 2>&1
If I run that by hand, I unexpectedly get a gpg-agent/pinentry GTK dialog popup on my desktop instead of the passphrase being accepted from STDIN; if I downgrade the gnupg package (after killing gpg-agent) + dirmngr then everything works as expected (the passphrase is accepted from STDIN). The /usr/bin/pinentry symlink points to pinentry-gtk-2 in both packages, and I don't use and fancy gnupg configs:
    $ egrep -v "^(#|$)" .gnupg/gpg*.conf
    .gnupg/gpg-agent.conf:default-cache-ttl 300
    .gnupg/gpg-agent.conf:max-cache-ttl 999999
    .gnupg/gpg.conf:require-cross-certification
    .gnupg/gpg.conf:keyserver hkp://keys.gnupg.net
I tried adding 'pinentry-program /usr/bin/pinentry-curses' as a test and recycled gpg-agent, it "worked" but just hung on an input screen - took a look upstream and see a bunch of 2.1.0 issues but nothing that seems applicable:
    http://git.gnupg.org/cgi-bin/gitweb.cgi … ads/master
    https://bugs.g10code.com/gnupg/issue?@s … ,3,4,5,6,7
Anyone have an idea what else to try? Nothing in the gpg-agent man page looked applicable, I'm sure it's something to do with 2.1.0 upstream...

Thanks for the link - that's only for gen-key, however. But I do confirm the "--passphrase-fd 0" is supposed to still be working as described in the current docs:
    https://www.gnupg.org/documentation/man … ic-Options
    --passphrase-fd n
Read the passphrase from file descriptor n. Only the first line will be read from file descriptor n. If you use 0 for n, the passphrase will be read from STDIN. This can only be used if only one passphrase is supplied.
So in theory the functionality hasn't changed. :-/

  • Random question about the flash player

Hi, to make this question simple... I was wondering if the
flash player could somehow be hindered by windows vista?
I ask because I have a laptop running Vista, and a Linux box
right next to me, and I dual boot Ubuntu on my laptop. When I test
my application on the Linux boxes, they run exactly as I have
programmed them. The only machine where my application gets screwed
up is on the Vista OS. I started to think that maybe Vista screws
with the flash players ability to function, could that be possible
or even true? I mean, I think SilverLight is a competitor of the
Flash Player, so I guess that's where my conspiracy theory comes
from. Any thoughts or input? Yes there could be a bug in my code.
I'm iterating through the display list and applying "x" tweens to
them, moving them all to x = 5. some of the display objects don't
make it to coordinate 5, and so go beyond. I attached part of my
code that moves the thumbnails. you can view it here on the web:
    kurtcom.com/actionscript3/PhotoProgram.swf

The camera is the object called camFrame in the FLA. It is
shaped like a rectangle. Simply copy the camFrame to any other FLA
and it will work. Note that it will base its measurements on the
Stage size in your new FLA. So the camFrame should be resized to
the Stage size (e.g. 550 x 400) to start with, and then resized
    proportionally.
If you apply a tint to the camFrame, it will tint the entire
scene. Thus, you can do a neat fade-in by applying a black 100%
tint to the camFrame in frame 1, and then removing the tint in
frame 20 (for example) and applying a tween.
