Constant battle to Burn DVD's using Encore

Hello,
I have so many problems with this program that it's hard to just name one. I never have any other applications running at the same time as Encore. I've turned off almost all the background apps/starter apps also. All my drivers are up to date.
Here's a short list of my problems-
Sometimes the Program will not open fully and just freeze.
It somehow corrupts Photoshop Menu's...randomly. Causing me to have to clear them out of the project and reload another version.
4 out of 5 times I have not been able to Preview a project before exporting it. Previewing will either crash the program or freeze it or, very rarely, work.
Will not open projects randomly. Sometimes to fix this I have to restart or Copy the files into a new location.
Error message right after clicking Build - "was not found." <---- Seriously, that's the entire error message. I have not been able to fix this one.
Solutions - (This are often just hit and miss. Completely random. Sometimes it will work just long enough for me to burn a project, and then stop working again) - I tried to open the project in another Windows Account. Constant restarts. I never transcode with Encore anymore.
My computer specs -
Windows Vista 64bit Buiness
Intel Xeon Quadcore X3350 2.66GHz
4x2 GB SDRAM 1066
Gigabyte X48-DQ6
Nvidia Geforce GTX 295
Creative Sound Blaster Soundcard
4 Sata II 7200rpm Harddrives
Has anyone found permanent solutions to any of these problems? Any suggestions on what I can do? Please help

If something in this ARTICLE does not help you, I am at a total loss. I have had nothing but perfection from Encore, but have to admit that I am still on En 2.0, so that does not help, as I believe that you are on CS4.
Maybe others with CS4 can address the specific issues that you are facing.

Hi All,
We currently have a new diploma running using CS4. When attempting to burn a project using encore it will let me make it as an administrator but as soon as i transfer to any other user without the same access rights i lose the option to burn and recieve the option "not found" Can anybody give me feedback regarding this issue or is it one of those cases where you really do just need to be an admin?

Many Thanks for responding. After all this my boss did a bit of searching and we have found a fix i will post the info he found below to help others if they need limited users to burn dvds/cds.

SPTI is available to Administrators only. Microsoft designed it like this, don't blame me!
Here is a quick workaround for those people wanting to stick with SPTI:
1. Log in as an Administrator
2. Click 'Start' -> 'Run'
3. Type 'secpol.msc' and hit OK
4. Expand 'Local Policies'
5. Click 'Security Options'
6. Change 'Devices: Restrict CD-ROM access to locally logged-on user only' from 'Disabled' to 'Enabled'
7. Close the 'Local Security Settings' window
8. Log on as your restricted user and try again.
Note: Only tested on XP and Server 2003. Wording may differ on other operating systems.
*****This setting is also in group policy, under Policies, Windows Settings, Security Settings, Local Policies/Security Options , and can be used to modify all machines in the domain ****************
Windows XP Home Edition doesn't have 'secpol.msc' so you'll have to edit the registry directly.
Open up RegEdit and navigate to the following key:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
Add a new String called 'allocatecdroms' and set its value to '1'.
0 = Administrators in the domain can gain access to data on the compact discs in the CD-ROM drive.
1 = Only the user logged on locally can gain access to data on the compact discs in the CD-ROM drive.

If you're not confident enough to make the registry change manually, you can use a program called 'FrogRights' to make the change for you... or just import the following registry file:
allocatecdroms.reg (110bytes)
Number of downloads: 332
Please note: You'll need to be logged in as an Administrator to import the registry file and you'll need to reboot having done so.
Yet another option is to use the Nero BurnRights tool. I believe this actually modifies the permissions on the device object (for some, this might be better than changing the group policy option). You can also use it to setup a security group that you can then add certain users to rather than giving everyone access to burn discs.
ImgBurn supports several other I/O interfaces besides SPTI and there's always a chance that one of the others is already installed on your machine. Go into the Settings and change the 'Interface' option on the 'I/O' tab to see if any of the others will work for you.
If none of them do you'll have to install an application that installs one of the other supported I/O interfaces and then tell ImgBurn to use it.
i.e.
You can use ElbyCDIO by installing some software from Elaborate Bytes or SlySoft - i.e. CloneDVD or Virtual CloneDrive.
You can use Patin-Couffin by installing some software from VSO Software - i.e. VSO Inspector.

After bringing in the movie from a video camera in iMovie and enhancing it tiles and transitions etc how do you and where do you save the project for burning DVD's using iDVD?

I recommend that you use SHARE/TO MEDIA BROWSER in Large size. Then in iDVD, you open the Media Browser and navigate to your project. You can drag it into your iDVD project from there.
You can also use SHARE/EXPORT MOVIE and save to the location of your choice. You can then drag and drop into iDVD.

Blu-ray says capacity too big when burning DVD Rom Folder Encore CS4

I have tried 3 times now to burn a Blu-ray Image file with a DVD rom Content Folder. The Blu-ray Image size is 45.90gb and the content folder is 1.6gb. The disk is a Sony DL 50gb Blu-ray. I have not tried to burn direct to disk because cost of Blu-rays. I am using Encore CS4. Is it that you cannot make an image file with DVD-rom for DL Blu-rays. Is there a number preset by Adobe for image file size for DL Blu-ray. Please help

45.90 GB on your hard drive and 1.6 GB on your hard drive add up to 47.60 GB.
In computer GB, (47.60 x 2^30) that's over 51 billion bytes. Sony and other blank media manufacturers report the capacity of their blank discs in normal GB (50 x 10^9), or 50 billion bytes.
Your project is too big to fit on the blank media that you have.

IMovie burn DVD without using "SHARE"

I have a G4 Combo drive powerbook with iMovie but not iDVD or an internal DVD burner. What will I need to burn my movie without this hardware and software? I do not want to use a compressed file like QuickTime.

to burn a DVD, you need a DVDburner, a combo drive can NOT burn DVDs, just CDs... that is a hardware issue...
you can use 3rd party tools as Toast to create a socalled SVCD from your iM projects; SVCD is an old standard, using a similiar codec as DVDs burned on CD-rs, the quality is acceptable, better then VHS, but far from DVD; ~40min fit on a disk, most/all DVDstandalones accepts SVCD...
will I need iDVD to save the movie to a specific file type that Toast could see a burn to disc?

iDVD is an authoring, encoding AND burning app, normally, no need to "iDVD-ing" then "Toast-ing"... in iDVD, you're allowed to create a socalled disk image (=file), which can be later been burned with e.g. Toast....
or...
you can drag'n drop iM project into Toast directly to create a videoDVD; but you loose all nice feature iDVD has to offer (individual menus, chapters set in iM etc)

Has anybody bought toast roxio to burn dvd's using the lion?

Since the new mac OSx lion doesn't have idvd or ilife you can't burn dvd from imovie. I was wondering if anyone has bought toast roxio for macs to burn dvds. Would it be worth buying? Any input would be appreciated.

As a total burning suite, Roxio Toast is excellent and worth every cent. I have been using it for ten years or more and the later releases are super stable and haven't had a disc burning error for a couple of years. A bit limited in themes as babowa mentioned, if that is important to you. But as an overall Mac compatable burner, 5 stars from me. Not cheap, so weigh it up against iLife '11 for your overall needs.

What do we do to burn DVD video? Encore is not in CC.

What to we use or do to create DVD videos? Encore is not in the Creative Cloud. Premier Pro does not seem to work for this and I don't know where to go to accomplish this task. I have been looking for hours.

Problem burning DVD DL using Super Drive - Help

I am using MacBook 13-inch Aluminum (Late 2008).
I tried my new set of DVD+R DLs from Imation. But SuperDrive couldn't detect the DVDs.
I checked my firmware version also, it is up-to-date.
I tried with 3 new DVDs, but was of no use.
But there is no problem reading dual-layer DVD movies.
But the Disc burning Info shows that my SuperDrive is capable of burning +R DL.
Could the problem be with the SuperDrive or the media.
Need Help.

You might just try another brand - regarding DL media slot-in drives may be very picky.
Especially have an eye on that speed rating: try to choose blanks that are rated 4x max.

How to get good picture quality on a burned DVD slideshow using IDVD?

After producing a slideshow on IDVD from either jpg or psd photos, it looked great when I played the project. Picture quality was excellent. When I burned a DVD to share the slideshow with a friend and when I played this on the same computer, it had lost resolution and looks awful. I am using best quality but this made no difference. On a hdtv using a standard player, the quality is mediocre. Is there any way to get a decent picture quality. I have also burned a DVD and CD from the IPhoto album, and the quality is better. IPhoto will not burn a slideshow or at least I do not know how to. Can you produce decent quality DVD using IDVD or is there a better application to produce decent DVD of photo slideshows?

Yes. It's called DVDSP (apple's top of the line DVD Authoring application). It has a much longer learning curve than iDvd and is more $$$ but it does work well. The Help Menu alone is over 640 pages long. However, is this app significantly better than iDvd solely in terms of visual quality?.... No.
But it does offer many more tools to address visual artifacts on the finished DVD, more audio control, much better control of durations per slide, audio, buttons that work as expected, among other things. (for additional examples of this see chapter 12 of the DVDSP Help Menu / starting on p. 373).
Short of DVDSP, and much less money, you can also try these 2 third party apps which come highly recommended on this iDvd Forum:

At the moment most macs do not yet support burning to Blueray (which does offer much better results). Once this technology is more commonplace, then I believe we will see a significant improvement in what you are trying to do above.

I can not burn a file using encore. OSStatus =-37

i need a little help with a DVD burning problem in Encore. i did everything as i always do, i cant find anything wrong with the format or way i constructed the file but about 1/4 of the way through burning i get the OSStatus = -37 and i wont burn. i have re stated, tried to burn other things, uninstalled and reinstalled the program. right after the error the diolaog box apears for a blank DVD as if i had just put the DVD into my computor and when i go to my desk top multiple icons for the blank DVD have appeard. does anyone have any other ideas?

What version of Pages?
It sounds like you are trying to open a Pages 5 file with Pages '09.

Audio in DVD authoring using Encore

I'm authoring DVDs in Encore and I have all of it going well with a motion menu in the bg and six motion buttons but there is no sound in any of the videos after I burn the DVD. The menu has no sound, but that is purposeful. Where should I be checking to

Thanks to the fast reply! Wow. I'm in Encore CS6 6.0.1.013 and to 'build' which I assume is their term for burning... I've selected Format: DVD Output: DVD disc. The destination is the disc on my desktop coming from a Samsung external DVD player/recorder.
Even when I scroll down into an area you can't see on this attachment, I don't see anything about audio. When I bring the Preview dropdown up, and try playing the video thumbs after they've been rendered, they all have sound. Somewhere in the burning process, I haven't selected something.
The other thing that just happened now, is that the highlighted video motion thumb:
won't connect to the right mov clip. It was working fine for the past few days. I highlighted OCEAN, then
dragged the link from the right to the left Ocean, but it won't insert the clip anymore... just the Default title frame
"media offline" but it's on my hard drive as an mov file, in the place where all the others are..

Burning DVD-Rs using disk utility

I posted here about a year ago asking why I couldn't burn my 4.28-gig video files onto a 4.7-gig DVD-R. I got some explanations that DVD-Rs technically hold a bit less that 4.7 gigs and that sort of thing. But someone mentioned that I should use Disk Utility instead of dragging the files onto the DVD-R, and that worked.
Now I'm trying to copy a 4.47-gig file using Disk Utility. I think with various upgrades, the Disk Utility interface may have changed?? Whatever I did last year that worked so well and easily, it wasn't readily apparent this year. I made a disk image of the files per certain instructions I found, but it still said it wouldn't fit.
Any suggestions?

I tried making a CD/DVD master from the DVD; using that option, I couldn't get to the size choices on my system. I still forged ahead, hoping for the best, but at the end of my efforts got an "invalid argument" message. (The disk isn't copy-protected or anything, incidentally.)
I have all the files copied to my desktop as well, and the initial thing I tried was making a disk image out of those. I did select the 4.7 gig DVD option at that point. On my desktop, the folder is 4.36 gigs, but the disk image wound up being 4.47 gigs.
Should I have selected "Read Only" instead of "DVD/CD Master," and should "Encryption" be "None" (default) or "AES-128" (recommended)?

hi can some one help me please is there an app i can use to burn movies to dvd im currently using BURN which converts files before burning but it makes the files big someone one suggested useing HANDBRAKE when i use this then go on burn it still converts which is a pain. i hope i make sense and someone can help

Burning DVD x4 Using M30-901

I'm trying to burn data on a blank DVD-R x4 using my M30-901 laptop, however, it's not recognizing the DVD. I came to know that, I have to download a firmware to use x2 DVD driver.
I was able to burn data on DVD-R 1x to 4x previously. Can you please tell me where to find this firmware and is it going to help.

I have found an info that the drive in M30-901 can write DVD-R just 1x. If you use Nero burning software there you can find a small tool called Nero drive speed. Using this tool you can find out which burning speed can be used for burning CDs or DVDs.

Burning DVD to use on TV

I created several short slide shows in iPhoto, exported them individually to QT movies, then assembled them as clips in iMovie, converted the iMovie to a QT.mov, dragged it into iDVD 5 and burned a DVD-R 8x disc. It plays on the computer but not on the TV. The external DVD player sees the disc as a DVD Video, the word Play appears briefly on the screen, then it stops. I burned 2 DVDs on Staples DVD-R 8x discs last week and they worked fine. I bought new DVD-R 8x disks from Other World Computing (RiDATA) and they seem to work well in the computer, but won't play on my Samsung DVD player. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for the responses. Let me elaborate. I successfully burned two DVDs on DVD-R 8x discs. I ran out of disks and could only find 16x discs locally. The machine would not recognize them and I fooled around with several settings trying to get them to work.
I called Apple Tech Support and they suggested I buy 8x disks from the Apple store. They were backordered and I couldn't find any locally, so I bought 8x discs from Other World Computing. The computer recognized them and burned them with no trouble. But suddenly my Samsung player won't play them. Could I have inadvertently altered some critical setting?
